We stopped here for a wine tasting and were pleasantly surprised at the unique offerings. We tried five wines for $20, with the tasting fee waived if you purchase a bottle. Our favorites were the 2023 Pinot Gris from the Russian River Valley, which was very refreshing, and the 2018 Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley, which tasted richly of violets. Vikki, who co-owns the winery with her husband, was attentive, and the ambiance was laid back, with a good variety of music and plenty of seating at wine barrels or small tables with stools. In LOVE with this winery and their awesome owners! Part of the San Carlos wine trail, this wine tasting room is cozy with about 5 or 6 tables, and I'd recommend making a reservation. I came here with a few gal pals in early December and wasn't sure what to expect given its in a pretty industrial area and the name is so funky! Once again, Yelp did not lead me astray - this was our favorite winery of the day! Not only is the tasting room adorably decorated, the owners are very passionate about their wine and their mission, and they were both there when we went, serving up the wine and telling us all about their journey. Did you know that the name is from a Ditch fairytale? So cool! Bonus: they had fresh baked cookies (I believe for the holidays) when we were there, and they were such a lovely snack! Onto the wine - we did a flight and while all were amazing, I ended up buying one from the tasting (I cannot for my life remember which) and one we actually hadn't tasted - a Zinfandel for my dad that I asked about. We ended up opening that bottle on Christmas, and my dad loved it! The owner's description of the taste was dead on, and I was so glad, given I was giving a gift that I hadn't tasted lol. 5 star wines in a comfortable, neighborhood ambience. When you can't or don't want to make It to Napa or other wineries that are hard to take a Lyft or short drive to, come here! Really unique wines. We started coming here last year, quickly became members and have been enjoying everything we try. We love their red blends and their syrah rose. Really nice tasting room, wine events, discount and hospitality. Definitely a great place to stop by for some excellent wine. And pricing isn't bad like Napa wineries. read more

I had so much fun at this hidden gem. The service was awesome and I actually loved that they pour out all the wines to taste at once. There was a ton of natural lighting at this indoor venue, and on a hot day, I actually really appreciate this spot was outdoors. Tons of bright colors on the walls inside which I actually liked. Loved their Pinot Noir. Let's not forget the amazing service too. This overall was just a fun vibe. It wasn't at all snooty or anything like that. Go here! They get their wines from places like Napa so the quality is good. They have some fun varietals. The employees were also super nice and helpful. We enjoyed the tasting and ended up buying a few bottles. Cozy indoor tasting room with outdoor seating as an option as well. Did a red/white flight and was impressed. Left with a couple bottles of white. We were attended to by 3 different people that worked there. All were very friendly. It's clear this establishment is customer service-oriented. Stopped into this quaint tasting room at the suggestion of friends of ours. It was a lovely experience, and the wine maker even gave us a quick tour. It was decked out in Halloween decor, but added to their traditional rustic interior. Their tasting consists of four wines, but we were also allowed to sample a couple additional ones that were not on the menu. Their Sangiovese and Sangiovese-Cab blend were quite delicious, along with the Rutherford Cab. These were my favorites. If you don't want to head out to wine country, there are a couple other wineries in this section of San Carlos that would rival some of those in Napa. Will return for sure. read more

We had a great time here. Our host was convivial and had the place well taken care of. We liked the Barbera the best, and we look forward to enjoying the bottle we took home with us. As was explained to us, the Flying Suitcase comes from a story by Hans Christian Anderson. We didn't know about this beforehand. I recommend this winery as a must stop. read more

Out of all the wineries we visited in this little urban wine area, Flying Suitcase was my favorite. Part of it is their wines which I thought were really tasty and solid. The other part is the winemaker who happened to do our tasting. He was so friendly and knowledgable that it really elevated the whole experience. It's a really cute tasting room as well. They have a lot of seating and games available, so you could definitely bring a group and hang out for a while as you sip on some tasty wines. Highly recommend adding this to your list if you're doing this little urban winery area! read more

The wines at Flying Suitcase are in my humble opinion, not up to par with most wines I've tasted, especially for the price point ($30+ a bottle). We stopped in yesterday and tasted their Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, 2014 Syrah, 2013 Syrah and 2015 Reserve Syrah (barrel taste). The only ones I particularly cared for were the 2013 Syrah and the 2015 Reserve Syrah - the others weren't pleasing to the palate or particularly varietally correct in my opinion. Maybe they could have changed my mind had they done more than simply pour the wine without giving any context, detail or background to what we were drinking. My mom ended up buying the 2013 Syrah, as we believe one should always purchase something when you taste - it's only polite. Her tasting fee (steeeeep at $15, by the way) was of course waived, and the employee who rang her up tried to charge me and my girlfriend for our tastings even though her colleague waived them since I'm in the industry. She seemed offended about it and bluntly asked for my business card, which I gave her, and she promptly glanced at it and put it in the register. I know it can be customary to keep the business card, but really, we're in San Carlos and I'll show you my I.D. if you don't believe it's mine or have some other qualm about it, lol. Long story short, I likely won't return to Flying Suitcase, as our experience at Russian Ridge next door was much friendlier, educational, and inviting. read more

I had been waiting for this place to open after tasting their wines at an event at Domenico winery around the corner. I would literally drive by weekly to see if they had opened...haha. Love this place and their staff. Great local winery with a quaint taproom and a broad selection of wines to taste and buy. Grab a few friends, enjoy a tasting flight, ask lots of questions and then take a few bottles to go - they will probably not last the night. My son and I visited your establishment back in early January. The owner was extremely knowledgable, not to mention extremely generous. I believe we tasted 7-8 plus bottles by the time we were ready (we had to leave so our wives wouldn't kill us for being so late). We enjoyed the unique taste of each our selections. I particularly like (and purchased) one of his Amador County reds (Le Chaland) and a very unique and delicious port. My thanks to the owner for his time and wine knowledge. read more

Who knew there are wineries in San Carlos??? Actually, I do, and I love doing a wine walk between them on the weekends. They're all great, but this one is by far my favorite. Ander is an amazing winemaker. He and his wife Vikki do an outstanding job of always making you feel welcome the entire time you're there, no matter how busy it is. This past Sunday it was super busy - standing room only - and not only were the wines on point like always, but we even had them help us surprise a friend for her birthday. We have enjoyed Flying Suitcase Wines for years and were excited to hear that they were opening their own tasting room. We had a chance to visit the tasting room recently and had a wonderful experience that exceeded our expectations. The tasting room is beautiful. They make high quality wines at reasonable prices. The tasting room staff is friendly and highly knowledgeable. It's also worth pointing out that Flying Suitcase is right down the street from Devil's Canyon Brewery, where we are members. So Flying Suitcase is in the perfect spot if you have both beer drinkers and wine drinkers in your group. It also seems like a great spot to potentially host a private event. read more

Flying Suitcase is a great place to stop. It is next to my other favorite San Carlos winery, Russian Ridge. Because they are next door to each other and are my other favorite wine tasting places in San Carlos (the others aren't that good) making it a perfect double stop with no intermediate driving.
