Meat plate
Alice C.

This spot is definitely on the casual side. There's seating inside plus a few tables outside. When I went on a Monday night it was empty, which made it nice and quiet. They do have a bathroom, and parking is easy in the structure off California Street. The surrounding downtown area is pretty cute to walk around too. I ordered the meat plate and the chicken shawarma wrap. The wrap was a good size portion wise, and everything was well cooked with plenty of veggies. Overall, it's a solid choice if you want something quick--good for grab-and-go or a fast sit down bite. That said, I wasn't wowed by the flavors or quality; it's simple and straightforward rather than standout.

Meat and chicken shawarma plate!

The most worth it meal in Palo Alto. Make sure to try the tea as well. The food is so homely and feels healthy. Good portions of food.

The meat here is always juicy and crispy. Been going there for a long time now, they have the same consistency. I live the part when they give you a free falafel ball with every order, though I didn't get that this time. The chai there is also great

Chicken Wrap subbed for Pita

Mediterranean Wraps is a personal favorite of mine in the area because it offers large portion sizes with delicious well balanced dishes. Our go-to items are the chicken shawarma plate and the chicken shawarma wrap. The plate comes with chicken shawarma on top of chicken stock rice, a side salad with a pickle, hummus, and pita. The chicken is always soooooo flavorful and is not overly salty. The rice is probably my favorite part because it's so luscious and packed with flavor. Every bite warms my tummy. The chicken shawarma wrap has the same yummy on it but with lettuce. Pro tip is to ask them to wrap it in a pita instead of wrapping it in the tortilla. The tortilla is very mid and the first time we had it was disappointed but we had the idea to ask them to wrap it in a pita and it HITS!!! Another pro tip is to ask for extra tzatziki and tahini and they will give it to you on the side. The falafel is also delish if you're in the mood for that. Also they do have inside and outside seating. Sitting inside is not the most enjoyable experience since it's a little stuffy and small but we always take it Togo to eat outside or at Stanford. It travels well! Parking can be difficult but cal ave does have free public lots that you can usually find parking in even during busy times. But regardless you will need to do a short walk to get the the restaurant since the main st is blocked off from cars. Mediterranean wraps is one of my ultimate favorites in the bay. Great tasty dishes for pretty reasonable prices given the location. I crave it all the time!

I had the falafel wrap, and I was very impressed. The falafel was not really crispy but it was extremely soft and not dry at all, and combined with the crunch from the veggies the wrap altogether had a great texture. I was very happy with the amount of veggies in the wrap, especially compared to other places that put barely any in. The tahini sauce is also amazing. Service is great as well, I asked for my wrap to be cut in half and they even wrapped the two halves separately. Not labelled on the menu but the falafel wrap is vegan as far as I can tell. Highly recommend, one of the better mediterranean restaurants in the area.

Came here for a quick dinner on the way back from a long hike and surf day on the coast. I wanted to like the place, but the food was a little disappointing. We ordered two chicken shawarmas. The taste was okay; I don't think I was expecting the strong tahini taste in the sauce. The tortilla like wrap was nice though! The staff were friendly and quick too.

Great vegetarian Mediterranean food if you are in Palo Alto. I was so sad to hear my other fav, Zadna Bowl closed down so we headed here and it was just as good as i remember it from a warm summer evening in 2017 :) Went with our usual order of Falafel deluxe wrap which had veggies, falafel, eggplant and potato chips with the usual sauces. We also got a side of babaganoush and pita which was delicious!!! The place is modest and clean, has a few tables in the patio which is nice for a warm evening. Unbelievably fast service too and it was perfect cause our hike up Stanford Dish worked up a good appetite ;)

The food here is sooo good and always hits the spot! It's so fresh and tasty. We've had the falafel wraps, the falafel salads, the schwarma wraps, french fries (homemade style), the lentil soup and the tea. It is all big portions and consistently delicious. The staff is also super friendly! Try the roasted eggplant too!

This is a cute little shop located close to Stanford with a great owner and mouthwatering options for lunch or dinner. I got the Falafel Plate and the falafels were genuinely some of the best I've ever had. They were crispy and went so well with the hummus, which was also delicious. You can never go wrong with veggies, falafels, and hummus! The owner is so generous and so funny! He gave us the best tea of our life and an extra falafel with our meals. He definitely knows the true meaning of service and connecting with your customers - will be back to try more of their options!

I would give 6 stars if I could…read more Anatolian Kitchen has become one of our favorite places, and at this point it is less of a "where should we eat?" decision and more of a "how soon can we get back there?" situation. Everything about this restaurant makes you want to return. First, the hospitality is just extraordinary. Levent is the kind of manager every restaurant wishes they had -- gracious, welcoming, and genuinely thoughtful. He has a way of making every guest feel valued and comfortable, like you are being welcomed into someone's home rather than just seated at a table. And Melissa is an absolute delight. She is attentive, kind, and so pleasant that she somehow makes a great meal feel even better. The food is spectacular. The flavors are vibrant, fresh, and deeply satisfying without feeling heavy. We especially love the kebabs, salads, sauces, and dips -- everything is beautifully prepared and full of flavor. And just when you think the meal cannot get any better, the coffee, tea, and desserts arrive and remind you that yes, you definitely needed those too. No regrets, only happiness. What keeps us loyal is that Anatolian Kitchen gets every part of the experience right: delicious food, warm service, and a truly welcoming atmosphere. Some places are worth trying once. It's dimly lit, the ambience and decor are perfect for a romantic dinner date. for 6 we got: apps- - croquetas de jamon: crunchy shell with an salty, creamy, potatoey inside, - ensalada de patata: literally tasted like potato salad, couldn't taste much of the crab, the other flavors overpowered; would skip this one - empanadas: the tuna belly was so tender, wasn't dry at all, and paired well with the sauce (reminded us of the orange sauce from Spartans), somehow thought there was chicken in it too but apparently not - mini cornetos de atun: my favorite app, tuna was super tender and flavors melted in my mouth, it was slightly fruity, crunchy from the cone - oxtail canelones: one of the not as memorable menu items, it was oxtail stuffed in a pasta shell but didn't really stand out to me - abuelitas meatballs: sauce reminded me a lot of beefy stock of beef bourguignon sauce, the meat balls were tender and great with the sauce - april special calamari: not really different from other calamari I've had, didn't really taste anything different, it was crunchy and not too oily which was nice main- -pulpo à la brasa: octopus is super tender and paired with a creamy sauce, but not really a standout imo compared to other dishes paellas each came with lemon and side of cream to add to your liking- - paella negra con vieras: extremely creamy squid ink paella, seafood is fresh and this was my favorite - normal paella no squid ink - same as above - paella campestre: this was a slightly less creamy paella with a slight tomatoey flavor with juicy pork belly and chicken overall the paellas were sufficiently creamy and tasty with a variety of meats, they also came out ~20 min rather than the 35 minutes wait time they specified desserts- - tiramisu de melindro: big portion, circular piece of tiramisu in a cup, very creamy, breading is slightly moist, not too sweet - saquets de crema: a few pieces of tasty fried pastry filled with gooey chocolate and cream inside - gorgonzola cheesecake: they put a lot of raspberry puree on top, it wasn't super super cheesy, I think the raspberry puree kind of overpowered the cheesecake but it was still pretty good would come back~

We came to Macarena on a Sunday and was seated almost immediately with a reservation. As soon as we walked in, I was amazed at the interior space, so aesthetically pleasing! As a note, this restaurant is located near the heart of downtown Palo Alto so parking is hard to find and limited, for folks reading this review, I truly hope you get lucky. We came as a party of four and here is what we ordered and our thoughts! *Churros bravos: Definitely the main star of this restaurant (what makes them unique). In my personal opinion, while the potato churros are fun to eat (these are a completely a savory dish), I wish it had more depth to them. They were a bit plain and I wish they were more salted. I do understand though they might have held off since it did come with a sauce already. *Mini cornetos de atun: Cute finger food with raw tuna. I typically love dishes like this; however, I felt like the waffle cone was a bit too sweet and did not contrast well with the tuna. If the tuna had a bit more of orange citrus flavor. I think I would have liked it more. * Grilled calamari: This was good, however I do not think it stood out enough. The salsa mery did not really have any strong flavorings. * Abuelita's meatballs: Surprisingly, I did enjoy these! The gravy coated sauce on both the meatballs and potatoes made it homey and tied it together. *Paella negra con vieras / Paella Campestre: The paellas was tasty, but I wish both had crispier bottoms, but the grains of rice was cooked well. The meat/seafood to rice ratio was perfect to me, and they both had unique flavor profiles. Overall, this place had good food but not enough for me to try to come back a second time.

As someone who likes Turkish food, this felt like a strong contender. Food: We started with the lahmacun which is made up of a thin Turkish flatbread topped with ground beef, tomato, onion, pepper, and garlic. It was beautifully thin and crispy, with just the right amount of topping. Honestly, add a small salad and you've got the kind of lunch that makes you feel satisfied. This lahmacun is one of the better versions I've had which made it extra tragic to learn it's a lunch-only situation. Why gatekeep happiness to daytime hours? For my entree, I ordered the Alinazik which was grilled tenderloin skewers over eggplant labneh. The beef was tender and the labneh was creamy, savory and a tad smoky. I saw that they offer a $44.95 prix fixe menu, which sounds great in theory, except for the small catch that everyone at the table has to commit. A bit of a "we ride together, we prix fixe together" situation which may not work depending on your dining companion(s) dietary restrictions. Atmosphere: The space is bright, airy, and stylish. The high ceilings resulted in lots of natural light, and a large bar that quietly suggests, "you could have a cocktail or two." One slightly odd note: The bathroom lighting is very dim. Like... "is this ambiance or did someone forget a switch?" kind of dim. Not a dealbreaker, just a curious contrast to the otherwise well-lit space. Overall: A solid pick for Turkish food in Palo Alto located off Emerson and a successful group lunch choice (I will be taking full credit). I'd happily come back to explore more of the menu. I'm already eyeing the Pirzola (bone-in lamb chops) or the Filet of Levrek (branzino) and maybe lobby for all-day lahmacun.
