    Beef Shawarma Sandwich
    Arash K.

Hidden gem in the area. Falafels are always made fresh but his best item imo is the Beef Shawarma sandwich. Served in an airy French baguette. Better than other shawarma places I've tried (house of falafel/falafel drive in). Mohammed only makes them Friday-Sunday, well worth the wait. Prices affordable and always give a decent quantity.

Falafel was so yum. Chef gave me a sample to try while I waited, which I appreciated. The meal really filled me up and it was so good!

The falafel sandwich was fantastic! I've never had Iraqi style before, but I came with a delicious sauce.

Between the 4 of us we got a half falafel wrap and the kebab plate. First of all I want to say that if you want the vegetarian food there is a separate station for it; that was a little confusing and the person at the cash register didn't tell me so I gave my ticket to the grill section not knowing. It's good on a sense because you know the kitchen isn't mixing meat and veggies for the vegetarian people. The kebab plate was very good and flavorful! There was 4-5 different veggies they added to the dish and a super creamy hummus, which I'll never complain about. The meat seemed like regular good quality hamburger that was thrown on the grill. The star of the dish was the pita bread strangely it was super soft, moist and very chewy 4/5* The half falafel seemed a little underwhelming to me; the falafels were made fresh by the lady, but she gave me 3 small falafels maybe the size of a half dollar? (How many people know what those look like now?) And a piece of cauliflower. Unfortunately they weren't as crispy as I would have liked and a little more on the soggy side. 3.5/5* The tables of the venue were a little on the sticky side, I don't think it's from someone spilling a drink or food, they're just sticky... If you know you know...

I had tried their gyro pita, falafels and banana shake in the months after the peak of the Covid pandemic as a DoorDash delivery. I was pretty underwhelmed at the time, but told myself that I should try it freshly made at the restaurant to give them a fair shake. I finally stopped by to check them out yesterday. It certainly feels like a drive-in restaurant with the five or so parking spots out front and menus posted above the windows facing the street. There are a few tables and benches for customers. One of the owners from the Nijmeh family patiently and politely took my order. I ordered the gyro pita, four falafel and a banana shake. It didn't take long to come out, just taking about five minutes. The falafel was slightly better in person than when I had it delivered due to the warmness. The same herb-heavy green inside the crispy fried ground chickpeas. It was tasty but does it stand out from the ones at Falafel Stop in Cupertino? No, not in my opinion. Falafel Stop has some fantastic falafel, slightly smaller and more savory. The banana shake was a slight improvement as well. I could taste the texture of banana this time and it was a bit thicker. The flavor was alright, although caramelizing the banana might help make the flavor more complex. Unfortunately, the gyro pita was really similar to how I remembered the delivered one. A thin and fragile pita barely holding lettuce and tomatoes drenched in sauce, with unwieldy blocks of gyro meat rather than gyro thinly shaved from a vertical spit. In two bites, the whole thing was coming apart in a complete mess. The flavor was rather ordinary as well. I can appreciate the long history and tradition of a local family-run restaurant. But I don't know if I've ever known of a more overhyped restaurant in my life. For me, the food didn't come close to earning the extreme adulation on social media and gushing reviews. There's a similar cognitive dissonance when it comes to Stan's Donuts. To some this would be considered sacrilege. And to this I say: merit and objectivity should take precedence over sentimental nostalgia.

The gyro meat was soft and tasty but on the salty side. The Hummus was good especially topped with the chili sauce and pita. Chili sauce tasted like chili and salsa mixed together; added a little spice and slight sweetness. Pita was soft, fluffy inside and toasty grilled outside. The salad has a vinaigrette dressing which had sweet citrus flavor; complemented the other items on the plate. The Basmati rice was yummy, with butter flavor. The Falafel was soft almost fluffy inside vs dense. The outer fried layer had a nutty taste with cumin with slight spicy flavor. The Beek Kabab was ok. A bit tough but good seasoning. Also a bit expensive for $21 with only about 5 pieces of beef chunks. The Cheeseburger was ok. They had the self serve water cooler by the window so it doesn't really stay cold because it's directly hit by the sun. Good place to get food to go. You order using the kiosk tablet. We also got the tzatziki and hummus. Overall, everything was cooked to perfection. My only disappointment was the rice--it tasted a bit like packaged rice and lacked the flavor and texture I was expecting. Next time, I'll definitely skip the rice and just get the garlic potatoes because they were delicious. The pita was also incredibly soft and fluffy. The drinks were excellent. We tried the raspberry lemonade and the mint drink, and both were refreshing. An honorable mention goes to the squeeze bottle sauces--they were so good! I believe one was a creamy garlic sauce and the other was a green sauce that reminded me of mint chutney. They really elevated the meal. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with a great atmosphere, although it does get crowded and noisy during busy times. The service was good overall, but I did have to keep asking for water refills since the staff didn't check in very often. My biggest complaint was the restrooms. They're incredibly small and poorly ventilated, making them feel hot and stuffy. It wasn't a pleasant experience. Overall, I'd definitely come back. The food was excellent, and aside from the rice and the restroom situation, it was a great dining experience.
