My wife is from Vietnam and she approved, which says everything. The bread is the star. Fresh baked, pillowy soft on the inside with a light crunch on the outside. It does not shred your mouth like some places do. It's actually very close to what you get in Vietnam, which is rare out here. The pork is fragrant and clean tasting, not gamy at all. You can tell they care about quality. The overall sandwich just hits right. Only a couple things to improve. The pate was a bit runny and the grilled pork didn't really taste grilled, more like it was cooked on a flat top. Fix that and this place is top tier across the board. A huge plus is the outdoor table and fantastic customer service they greet you as soon as you enter. Still, really solid spot. I'll definitely be coming back.

Parking at the Mountain View Shopping Center is plentiful. I went there for a take home Banh Mi on an early Tuesday evening. I was the only customer there and I ordered the 6. Saigon's Signature from the menu board at the pay counter. Which was ready quickly. The interior has a few tables and a long bench and table for dining. It's new, modern and clean. The menu is mostly Banh Mi sandwiches and sweet drinks. My sandwich was well constructed with bread with a crunchy crust and soft inside, generous amounts of protein, fresh pickles and crunchy cucumber slices. There was nothing memorable about the flavor profile, probably to make it suitable for the American sub sandwich palate. My smaller size was very filling and I saved half for later. I am not a fan of sandwiches in general but their Banh Mi is good so give them a try. May repeat.

I had a really nice chat with one of the owners there and they all seem like really lovely people--kind hearted with little kids around so hopefully they stay around for some time! They were still redoing the front of house so not sure when they will open fully but looking forward to trying more Azerbaijan food. Since I've never had Azerbaijan food before, I asked for a recommendation and he said all of the food is good but did say that the chicken shawarma was big and I was feeling a bit hungry so went with that. It came with fries and some peppers, which reminded me of banana peppers. Not spicy with a briney taste to it, great accompaniment. He also tossed in this yogurt drink (I didn't get the name) that was tasty. Overall, good food and will be back to try their lamb kebabs and the burger as well and interested to see what their pizzas will be like as well. Love seeing small family businesses like this and hope they do well!

On my first visit, they offered a drink for free and I tasted the Ayran (yogurt based drink). Friendly people. Next time, I'll try the Baku Chicken sandwich. Btw, it's in a small parking lot next to a restaurant, and you should have parking spots at the back. There always seems to be a decent crowd occupying the tables near the food truck.

I especially like the tuna salad sandwich and the pastrami sandwich. Both are classic choices, but they're done with care and great flavor. The value here is also hard to beat.

Some menu items felt a bit overpriced, while others were more reasonably priced. Overall, I'm not sure it's fully worth the price point, but it's definitely not bad either. Smoked Salmon Toast (8.5/10) - This dish had a lot of layers of flavor, and the egg was cooked perfectly with a runny yolk. I loved the variety of veggies that came with it, and the portion size was satisfying. The plating was also very nicely done. You can choose either potatoes or salad on the side. Tiramisu Crepe Cake (8/10) - Not overly sweet, which I liked. The cocoa powder balanced the sweetness nicely, making it more enjoyable. It was creamy without feeling too heavy or too much. Service: The setup here is more casual and self-service. You wait in line at the front to order and pay first, then grab your own utensils and napkins before finding a table. Once seated, they bring the food out to you using your table number. Overall, the service was decent. Ambiance: The place was very lively and packed, so it can get pretty loud with how many people are there talking. There's a lot of outdoor seating, but there was still a line out the door when we arrived. The space itself is large, spacious, and has a nice atmosphere overall.

It usually takes me two and a half hours but hey I get to see my friends and drop in on Dittmer's. I usually buy the smoked ham hocks because I am addicted to a Cuban black bean soup. I have tried smoked ham hocks from other sources, but the results were so bad that I threw out the soup. The only place I have found that has true smoked ham hocks is Dittmer's. I noticed the price of ham hocks has gone up. But many of the other prices have held steady. The store remains neatly organized and is spic and span. It's kind of what you would expect from a German shop. Carlo's black bean soup from All around the world cookbook by Sheila Lukins. Totally worth a 2.5 hour drive. 2 pounds of black beans Quarter cup olive oil 3 cups, diced onions Eight cloves of garlic, bruised and peeled. One smoked ham hock 6 quarts water 2 tablespoons +1 teaspoons ground cumin 1 tablespoon dried oregano Three bay leaves. 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper Pinch of cayenne 6 tablespoons chopped flat leaf parsley 6 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves. 1 teaspoon salt Two medium red bell peppers, diced reserve a quarter of a cup for the garnish Quarter cup dry sherry 1 tablespoon pack of brown sugar 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice. One cup of crème fraîche or sour cream. Soak the beans overnight, drain and rinse. Heat the oil over low heat and sweat the onions and garlic, about 10 minutes. Add the beans with the ham and the water to a large pot. Stir in the 2 tablespoons cumin, the oregano, bay leaves, black pepper, cayenne, and 2 tablespoons each of the parsley in cilantro. Bring to a boil, then simmer, uncovered until the beans are very tender and the liquid is reduced by about 3/4. This will take about one and a half to two hours. Transfer the bone to a plate and let it cool slightly. shred the meat and return it to the pot. Stir in the remaining 4 tablespoons parsley, 2 tablespoons cilantro, salt, and all except 1/4 of a cup of the bell peppers, the remaining 1 tablespoon cumin, the sherry, brown sugar and, lime juice. Simmer another 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Adjust the seasoning and serve hot. Garnish with a dollop of crème fraîche and a sprinkling of the diced peppers and chopped cilantro. Eight large servings or 12 small portions.
