During our first visit to Oahu, we stayed across the street from Orchids, which is located in Halekulani hotel. Customer service was great and the Mai Tais were even better. The waiter gave great recommendations on the food choices, and the food did not disappoint. On our first night, I ordered the lasagnette dish. The seafood was so fresh! It was just so good. The only complaint is the small portions, but I could also just be greedy. The second time we went was for breakfast. I ordered the French toast and some fruit. It was all delicious. read more

Came for afternoon tea on a Friday and definitely felt like a lil english rose queen! Orchids is the perfect little luxury dining spot with resort decor and very relaxing vibes. We were seated immediately since there were only two other parties there as well and couldn't stop gushing over the beautiful ocean view! We decided to do the champagne afternoon tea for the three of us ($49/person) which comes with an assortment of the cutest little tea sandwiches and desserts plus a pot of tea and a flute of champagne. My favorite was definitely the smoked salmon with lemon cream on rye bread and the mini haupia cake! My mouth is watering just thinking about it...the tea was yummy and the champagne was a nice treat yourself touch! The only thing that takes away from 5 stars was one of our waiters was a bit short with us (we could tell he was being short with the other customers as well) but it still didn't detract from a lovely afternoon! This review is for the Sunday Brunch. Location/Parking: The restaurant is located at Halekulani in Waikiki. There is free valet parking for 4 hours. Don't forget to get you ticket validated. Seating/Ambiance: It is an indoor seating but the restaurant is a open air restaurant so you're able to walk out on the lawn. There is air conditioning but because of the open air style, it will get hot on a hot day. The location and view is amazing! It is a must to take pictures. Price: Be prepared to fork out the dough. My husband and I paid a total of $176. Drinks: No alcohol drinks are included. Coffee, soft drinks and juices are included in the buffet. Juices include guava, orange and etc chilled with no ice. (Juice gets warm if you don't drink it right away.) Food: They offer everything from American, Japanese, Hawaiian and Asian food. American breakfast items from waffles, French toast, bacon, cold meat and pastries. Japanese dishes they offered were soba, hand rolls, sushi, nishime, etc. Some Hawaiian dishes they offer are a variety of poke, Portuguese sausage, lilikoi sorbet, etc. Some worthy items worth mentioning are the roasted pig, turkey and prime rib in the carving station. One odd thing about the food was there was a sign for corn chowder but no corn chowder. You need to ask it from your server. Our waiter did not ask if we wanted it and did not get the opportunity to try it. (Other buffets I've tried had the server ask if we wanted it since it was an item not out.) Some unique items on the buffet was the Thai beef salad that I enjoyed and the crab/lobster hand roll. These were the two items I kept coming back for. Desserts were cheesecake, red velvet cookie, pies, almond float, fruit crisp, ice cream/sorbets, and a sticky banana muffin. The set up of the food was odd. The food was set up in two area with minimal walking spaces for the guest. I feel like the flow of the line was all over the place. No one seem to know how to stand in line and where the line even started. It was a mess. Service: Service was great! They promptly refilled our water and asked if we needed anything. Overall, I was not impressed by the Sunday brunch. I enjoyed a few items from the selection of food offered but I was expecting more. More seafood, free Bloody Mary, something that made it worth a $70+ per person buffet. I feel like the buffet area is small and minimal space to move around. People were bumping into me left and right. I'm glad I got to try the Sunday brunch since it's been on my "to try" list for years and I most likely won't return. read more

I had a coffee (on) and then a latte (very nice) and the traditional Eggs Benedict- very very clean and tasty. Hollandaise sauce can be tricky but they nailed it. As soon as we knew we were going to be in Honolulu, I had my niece who lives in Honolulu make reservations for your Sunday Brunch. We had reservations for 10 at 10:30am but found out our great niece who just graduated from Mid Pacific was being recognized at church as being a graduate. We wanted to reschedule for 12noon. Thankfully, you were able to accommodate us for 12:30! Thank You, Thank You! We were Not disappointed as the last time we were in Hawaii it was in 2017 before the pandemic! We're so glad that you opened up again! A few changes, where you serve us which was acceptable! And we needed to order the Eggs Benedict, waffles and pancakes from the waiter. All the food was Outstanding as usual! My nephew in law came back with the cold Watermelon soup and I immediately wanted some, too. When we got here the host was very nice and showed us our table we sat down and asked if we wanted anything to drink and ordered coffee and waters. After waiting 20 minutes for the waters the coffee was brought down but seeing the wait staff attend everyone else around us who even the people sat after us was a little irritating. The ambiance is nice which is definitely 5 stars you are right by the water and the breeze is nice but when it gets later around closer to 9:00 am the sun starts hitting you if you're outside. After we got water we wanted to order but then again but didn't even stop to ask if we wanted to place our order. Again waiting another 15 more minutes to even place an order we finally caught someone's attention it seems they were more concerned about replacing the table clothes and silverware than asking what we wanted. Ordered the corn beef hash and eggs for myself. It was good the potatoes were small and could of had other options instead of being stuck to just eating potatoes (alternatives). Still waiting 30 minutes to just get our food while a table who sat after us already were eating their food and drinking their drinks. Would definitely not recommend the breakfast since the place wasn't even busy but trying to get service was hard since they were so distracted with the other 9 tables in the restaurant. read more

Beautiful location with amazing views! We stopped by here for dinner and I was so impressed by the ocean views and how beautiful the dining area was. It was crowded but they got us a table by the garden where they had a live music show playing. The service was attentive and friendly even though they seemed to be understaffed. We ordered the Hawaiian yellow fin ahi tartare, asparagus piomontese, truffle fries, seabass and the grilled scallops and shrimp. The presentation of the dishes was very beautiful, but all of the dishes seemed to lack flavor with the exception of the truffle fries which were too salty. The seafood was very fresh, I think they just needed to add a bit of basic seasoning to elevate and enhance the flavor. The food itself was not served hot so maybe it was sitting out for a while before they brought it to our table. This was our first dinner in Hawaii and while the location was beautiful the food did not impress. Based on the other reviews they could have just had an off night. read more

I had the Branzino last night which they were out of at 7 pm and substituted moon fish. The waiter mentioned it was a buttery, soft, oily fish and it turned out to be tough and chewy and flavorless. I was very disappointed. My dining companion had octopus and we split our meals and the octopus was cooked perfectly. Also the New York steak another dining companion ordered was over cooked and had to be sent back and when it finally arrived everyone was nearly finished. Lastly, other than a milk chocolate macadamia nut bar, there was no dark, rich, chocolate dessert. A big disappointment after a celebratory meal. I had sorbet which was fine, but not what I had in mind. Overall, for me, a disappointment. Buzz's steakhouse in Kailua did a much better job with the "Chinese-style" fish, poached in miso and ginger-- it fell apart and had a ton of flavor. I don't feel Orchids is a destination restaurant. Also had lunch poolside and it was fair at best. I left feeling let down. read more

Today we went and the quality of food was terrible , the crab legs super skinny, the ramen soup was tasteless. The california sushi roll was spoiled. etc etc. Total disappointment it will be a long time before we ever go back. This is definitely not the way we recall the restaurant being this way. All you can eat buffet- but instead of serving yourself, you walk up to the buffet tables and ask for food behind a transparent plastic wall and it is served to you. I find this process way more sanitary than touching the serving utensils after other customers (covid or not). The food choices were decent, and tasted fine. Some suggestions are to equip the table with the necessary utensils needed to eat the options provided ex. Cracker utensil for crab, spoon for soup and my other suggestion is to either have more condiments out for guests to take or condiments available at each station upon required like hot sauce and maple syrup and to have plain rice available as many of the dishes are traditionally eaten with a side of rice. The staff were super busy so it would be nice to have everything we need upon eating our food. It gets a bit busy at the buffet, since it is not serve yourself and sometimes it's hard to project your voice through a mask, plastic wall, and other people talking. The staff were very polite, friendly, and accommodating which is a win for me because customer service is so important! The view was beautiful, we sat outside at the furthest table to the beach and enjoyed the cool breeze and piano Tunes. The Place was very clean with great ambiance and scenery. This wouldn't be on my list of first 3 places to come back to but I wouldn't mind bringing friends/family here, it's great for a large group! I do recommend. read more

We decided to do some cocktails, light salad and dessert here. Absolutely beautiful setting - request the corner tables for the best views and some privacy. Table 8 is corner 4 top facing House without a Key where you can watch Brook Lee(former Miss Universe) dance hula. Table 20 is corner 4 top facing the ocean. The two best tables in my opinion. The lobster salad was complete and artistically delicious as it was tasty. The rich dressing was dollop on the side but had a nice tang to it. All the veggies were fresh and the lobster perfectly cooked. The dessert, which we shared was the classic coconut cake. A must have....looking so heavy but oh so light and creamy. I do not normally like coconut. This was the exception. The second dessert was the Tropics. A white chocolate mousse with kalamansi/lychee and a pineapple sponge cake all layered in a petite presentation. Not a large serving and wished it was more voluminous to share. The flavors were on spot and not too sweet. We casually spent about 2 hours+ here and time just drifted by.... Good company and GREAT ambience in this still so special hotel property. I love restaurant week! It's a time where I can try special dishes at different restaurants. Orchids had a restaurant week special for lunch for about $40 that included an appetizer, main dish, and dessert. Valet parking was free at the Halekulani for up to 4 hours. The appetizer was an ahi & hamachi sashimi dish served with grapefruit, some sort of radish, and gochujang sauce. I was pretty skeptical about the fruit and Korean sauce, but they somehow complemented each other. The restaurant week special had two possible main dishes: 1). Cornish game hen with toasted quinoa or 2). Shrimp gnocchi with pesto cream sauce. I tried the Cornish game hen, itwas soft but not very special; however, I really liked the toasted quinoa. That is saying something because I don't really like quinoa. The dessert was my favorite item! It was a pistachio tiramisu with lemon sauce. The tiramisu was in a ball of chocolate with an edible gold paper! I ate it with a cup of rich hot coffee. That realy hit the spot. If restaurant week wasn't over, I'd recommend it to others. read more

Went there for Sunday brunch. Parking was easy as there was valet service but no validation needed (probably a pandemic thing cause in normal times anyone could use this and park for basically a tip). Other than items like soup of the day, eggs Benedict, waffles and pancakes that the waiter will bring to you from the kitchen, everything is buffet style with hotel personnel serving you from behind plexiglass. There are all the stations salads, poke, sushi, carving station, seafood, and desserts. For us service was spotty. When we first arrived at 11:30 service was attentive from both the waiter and busboy. Perhaps around 12:30 there appeared to be a small serge of guests and there were longer lines to get food as well as slower service. But then again during this time when staffing issues exists you can't really hold it against the establishment or the staff. But if this was normal times I would be a little less forgiving that we had to returns dishes to the bus stations a couple of times when we returned (after standing in long lines) and the dishes were not taken away. Price was $79 plus tax plus tip so hike not exactly cheap was expected for the quality of food (oysters, Dungeness crab, poke, sushi (even hand rolls made to order),prime rib, pig, mahi mahi as well as ramen and soba stations. read more

Outdoor dining was comfortable and I felt safe with covid considerations. The servers all wore masks. Live music from House Without a Key at the hotel added a special touch. I started with the hamachi crudo. It was tasty with generous portions, but a little too salty for me (low sodium diet). The lasagnette was delicious, the sauce was light and so yummy! I love love love to come here on Sundays for the Sunday Brunch! The salad and veggies selection is amazing! The edamame poke with a little limu is so tasty I love it! The fresh carving station... Orchids is such a beautiful and fancy place to do brunch. The sights of the beach is stunning. The restaurant is decorated with pretty orchids (hence the name). The service is spectacular. I can't think of anything negative with our brunch experience. The three of us shared the American and Japanese complete breakfast menus, along with the vanilla bean pancakes. The American complete breakfast came with coconut water, fresh papaya, two eggs any style, potatoes, bacon, pastries, and coffee. The Japanese complete breakfast came with fish, miso soup, tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet), pickles, assorted vegetables, fresh papaya, rice porridge, and tea. I just love the option of having a Japanese breakfast. And the selections were good. My favorite item was the fluffy pancakes with the banana-macadamia nut brittle, accompanied with Hawaiian honey and coconut syrup! That dish just reminded us that we are still in Hawaii. Beautiful restaurant! Excellent service! Extensive menu. My dear lady friend treated us to lunch there today. The menu is a set with choice of entree and then a choice of an appetizer, salad or dessert. It was a tough decision because they all sounded so delicious! Pasta listed we're all homemade. Fresh fish from Hawaiian sea bass to Onaga. I read the Yelp reviews to help me decide on what to eat. I finally ordered the fried calamari and the Asian style onaga. Calamari was very nice. Lightly batteries and so tender. The onaga was a generous portion but it was a bit salty. As you can see desserts were very good. What was especially nice was they gave the 2 Birthday ladies complimentary dessert, coconut cake. It was delicious! The server made sure we had water glasses filled, parking validated and fresh coffee. We were there from 11:30am until about 2:30pm. No one rushed us out. Very lovely lunch! read more

This restaurant used have more class and quality service. We had dined last night and we were so disappointed. They brought all the food together at once including appetizers and we asked for extra empty plate for sharing, the server yelled back to us said he is going to bring it and he never came back. We had to wait for a while and our food was getting cold. They didn't seem care about our table. We ordered bottle of champagne and wines but they only served us at the first glass and we had to stand up table and serve ourselves. Food was nothing special and because of the poor service, the taste was so bland. On top of that, they includes 18% of tips on top our bill. I couldn't believe they expect to get 18% tip with there poor service. I guess this is their standard now and it seems no one at the restaurant care about quality service and class anymore. Outstanding location facing the Pacific and with phenomenal views of Diamond Head and offering excellent menu items that are paired perfectly with superb service that is second to none in Waikiki. With the volcanic brown Diamond Head in the backdrop opposite a setting sunset while facing the waves of the Pacific in the foreground, this is the environment for a fantastic dinner experience that will be memorable for years. The service here is outstanding as it really elevates the dining experience, and is on par with many Michelin starred restaurants in San Francisco and New York. This is the perfect date night spot, or great friends/family get-together in a formal setting with a phenomenal view of Diamond Head nestled in the Pacific. For the menu offerings, for starters I particularly enjoyed the Alaskan King Crab appetizer as it was very delicately cooked and perfectly seasoned. For a main entree, we had the squid ink spaghettini, steak, Hawaiian seabass, and roast chicken, all of which were outstanding. The Hawaiian seabass however was excellently prepared--it remained delicate and tender and was paired with a nicely seasoned vegetable based sauce. Kids menu offerings were actually fairly impressive especially for the relatively low prices (compared to adult items at least). While there weren't many kids except for ours, possibly because the prices are on the higher end, they were very welcoming of our kids and had really nicely made menus to keep our keikis busy. Overall, just an outstanding job here--we look forward to continuing to return here. read more

Halekulani Hotel is one of my favorite places to stay in Waikiki and the Orchids is beautiful, both in its ambience and view, looking down the coast towards Diamond Head. As a vegan, I found the menu less than appealing. However, the staff went above and beyond to make me a vegan meal -- pasta and a salad -- that was wonderful if a bit limited in scope. I am always surprised at a restaurant of this class to not see at least one vegan option on the menu, but I'm sure it is only a matter of time until that changes. I would recommend Orchids, vegan or not, as it can overall be a little difficult in Waikiki to find vegan options and they were wonderfully accommodating. And the view, of course, is the real reason to be here! read more
