I came here for my friend's baby shower. The first impression walking in thy had really nice decor, a big room and a sushi bar and small bar in front. It happened that it appeared a few other events were going on that day, another baby shower and a wedding. We were set up in the middle. The meal was served family style and as always with plenty of food. First courses started off with a few variety of salads and appetizers. I liked the salad with fresh strawberries which was very refreshing. The second course they had these Russian style fries and mushrooms which were so crispy and delicious it was a big hit at our table. Their short ribs were also very good as it was so tender you didn't need a knife. The dessert was also very good as mini pastries with coffee and tea were served. Service there was overall very good. Both servers made sure that everyone was fed and had their glasses full. The only criticism is that the bathroom was a little odd. The womens bathroom had two toilets but no stalls separating it. Just a fair warning, if you are planning to have dinner here, then reservation is a must. Most people get a banquet; which is like a prefix on steroids. It's pricy, but if you never went to a Russian restaurant then you will be pleasantly surprised, because there is no other place that will give you this much food excerpt a Russian restaurant. We came in on a Friday at about 6 pm, and the place was empty. Most people make reservation for 8 pm. The music begins at 9 pm, and by 11 pm most people are crowding the floor with vodka fuelled energy. If you are a sushi lover, then you must try this place, because they really do an amazing job on special rolls. Most rolls are $16, but a normal special roll is only a dollar or two off, and you get double the amount of food in these rolls. I honestly can't wait to go back to this place. read more

We booked the private room in the back on a Saturday nite. We booked about a month in advance with Alex (who BTW gave us great options and substitutions for the veggie and non pig crowd) and took the $95 package with a BYOA option with no cork fee. My fam and friends are big scotch and vodka people, so the BYOA was a mega plus. You have no idea how much easier it is to pour from your table than hassling the staff each time for a drink. But as a warning to some, when you pour your own drinks you are bound to start not remembering things. I was no exception. My mantra is all ways the same - realize what you are getting. If you go during the week it will be D-E-A-D like Walking Dead but not as scary and no one is trying to eat you or suck out your brains (no sexual intent at all). That is the nature of the place, they make their $$$ on Friday and weekends. Preface: I really want to give it two stars because the food wasn't bad (but overpriced). I just had dinner with a good friend of mine since it was in my neighborhood and i had purchased a voucher a while back, which in fine print stated that it does not expire. The service was OK but slow because the waiter seemed to be new on the job or he just didn't have any answers to our questions about the food. But the two of the waiters did do their best to work with whatever they had. So now the fun part: PAYING THE BILL WITH THE VOUCHER. As we were ready to pay the bill, we presented a print out voucher from Restaurant.com, but it was rejected. The manager, Fhurruch, told us that they discontinued the contract with Restaurant.com as of April 2012. Even though my voucher was purchased over a year ago and stated "CERTIFICATE DOES NOT EXPIRE," the manager still did not honor the voucher. I tried to reach Restaurant.com's customer's service at the time, but it was after business hours. The manager obviously seemed more worried about getting the bill paid then to keep a new business relationship and did not try to budge or be helpful. I wanted to come here to experience a cool dinner spot in the hood, but apparently the service just didn't live up to it. It was a Thursday evening, and my friend and I were the ONLY patrons there. In a search for the orange mood during the last summer days and in a sake of experience of what the Russian nouveau cuisine is, I decided to finally visit "Orange Grill". Surprisingly there was a plenty of parking spots, which was a great convenience and set up in a good mood even before entree ring the place. Place was empty. Which is a red flag for any NYC spot. But I decided to give it a try. The waiter Arsen was very entertaining and helpful, providing the details on every item on the menu, he also recommended to try the top sellers which we did. So our feast contained: pan seared sea scallops, Boston & California rolls, prince edward mussels, octopus carpaccio, espresso scented rib eye steak with truffle mushroom sauce and filet of Chilean sea bass. I know gluttony is a sin. But I'd rather be a sinner, when he food tastes that good!!! That steak....mmm...is to die for! Incredible flavors and texture and that truffle sauce served as a cherry on top of the dessert - making the dish - magnifique! The food was accompanied with the fresh baked bread loafs that had the butter and garlic inside. Something hat is definitely worth trying. The drinks are pretty strong and like the real mixologists creation can enlist various technics of preparation. I've tried couple of the drinks - but my sweet tooth decided to stick to the chocolate martini. By the end of our dinner, there were few other tables taken. The ambiance was pretty nice - relaxing lounge music and Victoria secret angels catwalk on tv. As for the bathroom. I had a shock when I got in. I've experienced the Sochi déjàvue. Two toilets in the same stall!!! am i expecting a guest? And as I walked in - some babushka started reading the fairy tale on the sound speaker. Very crowded dance floor, and the strobe lights sort of gave me a mini-seizure. Coat check guy couldn't break my $10, so I wasn't charged. Whatevs. Food was awesome though. The steak salad was exceptional. (I can't tell if it was the marinated steak or the dressing) for meals we got the stuffed salmon, Chilean sea bass and lobster tails. Literally have never seen portions like this. Normally it's one lobster tail for $32 in the city but here it was 2. Stuffed salmon was huge, probably at least 10 ounces and then stuffed with crab meat. Chilean sea bass was delicate and delicious. Service was top notch. For a place located in what seems to be a hybrid of Kurt Russel's escape from NY, and a dump for a Hollywood set, the prices are far too liberal. The interior is nice, but lacks any personality. Do all the russians go to one interior designer? The food leaves something to be desired. A FYI, gold flakes on sushi do not enhance your palate or your tastes, and it doesn't warrant a 25.00+ price tag. Orange Grill is open all week, but it's perfect for parties. The place is beautiful. They have a dance floor, live shows, and very intricate decor, which always changes with the occasion. You can tell that it was designed with care and passion. Most important however, is the food. They probably have the best quality food in Brooklyn, and can easily rival most upscale Manhattan restaurants. It's a little on the pricy side, but the quality of the food and service more than makes up for it. Coming here is definitely an unforgettable experience. As far as parking, it can be hard to find a spot, but they do offer valet parking. If you are coming for a party, you probably shouldn't drive anyway. So some of my favorites: sushi amazing like no other, iceberg salad (sounds bogus right, but so tasty) burger is scrumptious ( would never usually order a burger at any other place. but here I simply must), oysters always fresh, frisée salad, roasted quail stuffed with risotto, and the lamb chops I simply can't refuse. Wine list had been revamped considerably. Amarone is one of my favorite reds! Elegant and fragrant on the smell, yet robust on the tongue. Came here for the New Year's Eve dinner. Having been to a few Russian restaurants celebrating the New Year I have to say this was the best experience by far. Although a small restaurant compaired to the rest of the catering hall looking places around Brighton Beach it was perfect because no matter where you sit you are able to see the stage. UPDATE: We went back last weekend for a friend's birthday. I'm happy that things improved, and have accordingly improved the rating, although they still aren't as good as they used to be. Food: The salads and appetizers improved the most. The duck salad got back its tasty dressing, and there was more variety for the same banquet level we ordered, and were disappointed with, last time. But the main meat dish was still disappointing, and with the only other meat option being a tiny piece of veal and carbs being limited, there was not enough food, and especially to support the amount of drinking going on. And the amount of food per guest number is still off, and at least 2 people always didn't get the chance to try something because there wasn't enough for one helping per person. Service: To avoid what happened last time we started the evening by tipping our waiter. He was extremely attentive so that was an improvement but I wouldn't be able to tell you if the service truly improved or was better only because of the extra tip. Entertainment: The music still started very late, just past 10:30. Appetizers were slim pickings, lots of olives and cheapy appetizers on the table but only 2 small plates of substantive options (seared tuna, tomato and mozzarella etc.) for all 20 people. The duck salad had so much mustard and gloopy dressing it was inedible (when just 6 months ago it was sweet and one of my favorite salads). Meat was small slices that was so boring and under-seasoned and for some reason after having potatoes and mushrooms they thought people wanted seafood with more potatoes instead of the usual pasta (it was just shrimp and fish so not sure if "seafood" platter is appropriate). And the fruit plates were a huge block of watermelon with tiny kiwi slice on top with berries thrown around, so the variety there is gone too. Service: The music started so late, 10:30, I was nearly sleeping when we finally were able to get up and dance because for 2.5 hours all we had to do was keep eating and drinking. Every time we asked when the music would start they said 20 more mins and then even though it was 10:00 already the singer got rude and dismissed the birthday girl and said, "Don't worry there will be music you can go relax." Once the music did start the performers didn't interact with the crowd or try to get people's energy up even though the crowd was a bit tired by the time the music started. Past Saturday we celebrated our sons 13 birthday @Orange Grill. We booked a private party room, ordering $125 banquet menu. Even though we've been to this place before, this experience exceeded our expectations. The décor, the food, the service were absolutely outstanding! The main waiter (Lesha), and other staff, were accommodating to any requests we made prior, or during the party: move tables, rearrange food, provide outlets, help to setup for our own music equipment - no problem. And we danced, and we had a really-really good time. "What else can we do for you, sir ?" - I been asked throughout the dinner. And it was not shtik! No Russian restaurant, and we been to many, can even remotely, come close to quality of service, to which Orange Grill have provided.
