This was the beautiful cat who lost her life due to Oradell's dileberate dishonesty all for money
    K K.

I am writing a review regarding the treatment my cat received at Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus, NJ, approximately 20 years ago. What happened still haunts me, and I now believe it was not simply a tragedy--it was negligence fueled by greed. My cat was first seen at an emergency clinic, where I paid over $3,000 to have her stabilized. The ER vet determined she needed immediate surgery and called ahead to Oradell to explain the urgency. They confirmed she could be brought in, and I drove straight there, expecting her to receive the life-saving care she needed right away. When I arrived at Oradell early in the morning I conveyed that the emergency clinic said she needed immediate surgery. I paid over 5k up front for surgery including a 300 triage fee to ensure she was seen promptly as an emergency. As a staff member took my cat towards the back i asked, "you're going to do surgery on her now, right?" The staff member nodded her head affirmatively and said "We'll take care of her." That led me to believe surgery would begin shortly. Instead, they accepted her knowing full well they didn't have the time to treat her urgently. The surgery was delayed until late in the afternoon, and by then, her condition had deteriorated from stable to unstable. They never called me to inform me of the delay. They never asked for my consent to operate on a now-unstable patient. They also never told me another animal had been prioritized ahead of mine until after the surgery--when they told me my cat was brain dead. In total, I paid over $8,000 between the emergency clinic and Oradell. My cat died because they chose to take her in for the money, not because they were ready or able to treat her. They let her decline while I waited, trusting they were doing the right thing. They took my money, they took her life, and they robbed me of the chance to make an informed decision. This wasn't just poor communication. This was a betrayal of trust and a failure in veterinary ethics and patient triage. I hope no one else has to go through what I did--thinking they saved their pet by getting there in time, only to learn that the hospital never intended to act urgently at all. I urge you to never trust Oradell with anything urgent or life saving. They are dishonest and okay misleading you for money at the expense of your animals life.

On Friday evening 9/5/25 our family cat of 14 years Macho suffered a Saddle embolism. The onset was sudden. We immediately brought him to the ER. The staff was understanding and compassionate as we knew that Macho would not be coming home. His stroke was massive. Our sincere gratitude towards Dr. Seth and his staff. Their kindness will forever be in our hearts during this most difficult time.

if you leave your dog there overnight, be prepared for a minimal bill of four to $5000, they put on fluids, antibiotics, and your dog gets to see the doctor next day. It's a experience than dealing with a car dealerDave Giordano. ps things have changed. We've been going there for 48 years. They must have corporate.

I run a small cat and kitten rescue in Montclair NJ - I have used Oradell in the past for many of my rescues and my fosters. Yesterday was the day I determined they are UNFIT to care for any of my animals. I called at 9:39 am to ask if they have room in their isolation area to take 5 sick kittens. I explained that they have Panleukopenia and only weigh about 13 ounces each at approximately 4 weeks of age. I explained this on the phone in order to convey the emergent need for care. The woman on the phone said Yes we have room for the kittens. I said...."please put me on hold and ask a doctor to be sure". she put me on hold and came back and told me to "bring all 5". I rushed over there. Told the front desk that one looked pretty critical to me - the assessment tech came out and grabbed them. I waited 2 hours while they had them in the back "assessing" them. Then I was called into a room where I waited another 30 min until the doctor came in to meet me. Dr. Kimblery Guzman told me that she needed to go over the itemized list of the estimate. I agreed to all and told her please get started on treatment. She came back in another 25 min to tell me they will only admit 3 of them. I couldn't believe it - "staffing issues" she explained, I told her to give me back the kittens - I will take them all to VEG down the street. I waited 30 min for them to bring me back my kittens. One had been "washed" I asked the male vet tech why he was wet - he had diarrhea while waiting to be seen. he told me. - THIS KITTEN DIED ON THE WAY TO VEG - 3 MINUTES AFTER LEAVING ORADELL ANIMAL HOSPITAL If they weren't so keen on getting their estimate written and approved by the client so they could receive payment - they may have had a chance. greedy and unconscionable. Not to honor the words of commitment of their own employee that they would take in all 5 and then delaying their treatment by over 3 hours is what killed this kitten I am horrified. Here is a pic of the baby they let die in their greedy care !

We called ahead and explained the situation and were assured due to the seriousness (as she was in much pain) her care would be prioritized. Upon arrival, the staff had a table all ready for us, and immediate action was taken to prep her for examination. It was respectfully, professionally, and tactfully communicated to us the exact diagnosis our cat was under, along with the reasons why that conclusion could be made. Unfortunately it was a fatal condition and nothing could be done besides relieving her pain. She lived a long and happy life of 18 years. Despite the outcome, the staff was empathetic and supportive during the process and afterwards. The loss of a pet is never easy, but the way the situation was handled was the best it could have been. Extremely concerned when my male cat vomited up his entire stomach and visited the litter box…read moremultiple times within a couple of hours. Called this place after doing an extensive search for a decently rated pet ER (not many around me). I am so thankful there is at least one, and they're open 'round the clock. Was placed in an examination room and was seen fairly quickly by a tech for vitals, followed by the vet (I swear I tried so hard to remember her name to give her a personal shout out but stress took away my memory). She was awesome. Thorough and caring. While nothing appeared to be an evident emergency, my cat was clearly suffering from something hurting him. Recommended course of action seemed slightly excessive, but this vet truly stepped up to help me out. I consented to an xray, which indicated constipation. Treatment included sub-q hydration, anti-nausea medication, and a laxative. Cat had never been poked and prodded so much in his life. But he was such a good boy, and thankfully never bit or scratched- just growled and hissed. I would have too, little buddy!! I truly, sincerely appreciate knowing my boy doesn't have any bowel obstruction or anything worse. Great relief that we'll manage with the laxative and hopefully he'll be good as new. Thank you to the Vet Tech and the assistant who were both so helpful and supportive (and whose names I also forgot). Great team. I really, really love that every staff member called my boy "friend" and treated him like their own.

***WARNING - DO NOT GO HERE WITH ANY EMERGENCIES***…read moreIncompetent, apathetic, PE-owned ER that will actually significantly increase the odds your pet dies. My 3-month-old cockapoo ate a thin thong. We were at VEG Flatiron within 10 minutes of ingestion. Only one other animal was in the facility, stable and being monitored. We were the only active case. What should have been a routine emetic-then-scope visit became a six-hour ordeal across two VEG locations. It took roughly an hour to get the first dose of apomorphine. Staff were audibly socializing and gossiping about parties rather than working. We paid upfront. When the first emetic failed, we waited another 40 minutes for a second dose, not for any clinical reason, just because nobody was prioritizing the case. When emesis failed, the vet recommended endoscopic retrieval. We agreed immediately and paid $6,000 upfront. We then waited over an hour to begin. When I asked about the delay, staff were socializing and the vet was on his phone. They were "waiting for someone to come help." When they finally induced anesthesia on a 3-month-old puppy and attempted the scope, the endoscope did not work. They kept him under while calling the manufacturer's support line on speakerphone in front of us, where the agent's first question was, verbatim: "Have you tried making sure the machine was on? That was the issue last time." That level of incompetence is truly hard to believe. They re-dosed anesthesia three times troubleshooting equipment that had failed before and that nobody had checked. They gave up and transferred us to VEG UES, promising the scope there was prepped and ready (It wasn't). They offered to cover the Uber (They didn't). At UES, the nurse re-weighed him and re-took his temperature, procedures just performed an hour earlier. We waited over another hour. When I asked the receiving vet whether VEG Flatiron had transferred his anesthesia drug history, critical information for safely re-inducing a puppy who had already been under that night, the answer was no. Nothing had been transferred between two locations of the same company on the same EMR. The vet said she would "get those records." After nearly two hours with a catheter still in my puppy's arm, I went to ask for an ETA. A nurse was rude to me. It was clear my asking the question is what prompted them to actually start prepping. They had not been working on it. When they finally induced him and started the scope, the second endoscope also did not work. The vet asked her tech if he had checked the machine beforehand. He said yes. He had not. Here is what saved my dog: the attending vet at VEG UES is genuinely skilled. She performed the retrieval without insufflation, improvising around equipment her team failed to verify, and got the underwear out because it was bright red and still in the stomach. She is the only competent person in this story. After retrieval, while my puppy was still under anesthesia, the team continued troubleshooting the broken scope, testing equipment on my dog's anesthesia time. Then their computer crashed. After ten minutes of watching them reboot their app while my puppy remained under, I told them to stop. We never got a complete gastric examination because insufflation never worked. We accepted that risk because it was lower than letting them keep him under any longer. My puppy is fine. This review is not about a bad outcome. It is about the fact that the outcome was almost catastrophic, and would have been if the foreign body had migrated past the pylorus during one of the many unjustified delays, at which point we would have been looking at emergency surgery on a 3-month-old with materially higher mortality risk. The pattern across both locations: two broken endoscopes in the same chain on the same night. Equipment not verified before induction of anesthesia, twice. No transfer of anesthesia records between sister locations. Staff socializing and gossiping about parties while a critical case waited. Three rounds of induction agents on a 3-month-old puppy for a procedure that was never properly completed. $6,000 collected upfront for a service that was never fully delivered. This is not bad luck. It is structural and intentional. VEG is a private-equity-owned chain selling consumer-friendly branding - but under the surface is hiring too few of the cheapest, most apathetic staff, and clearly not maintaining their equipment. This is Private Equity 101. Cut costs, raise prices, shove it down the consumer's throat. The positive reviews here are from people who came in with simple (often non ER) cases any clinic could handle. DO NOT GAMBLE WITH A REAL EMERGENCY. This is not my final action with this company, but I am warning anyone and everyone I can with an animal, to never go to this ER. They don't care and they will significantly increase the odds that your pet dies. We just got lucky.
