What an incredible group of people! My dog is susceptible to pneumonia and when he had a wet cough on a Sunday, I knew it couldn't wait for his primary vet on Monday. In the past we went ton other emergency vets and unfortunately it was always a long wait, you were away from your dog the entire time, and they wouldn't release your dog to you until after you paid. VEG is different than all those places. We were seen immediately and while they do have an open concept ER, they gave us a private room just in case. The nurse (Diana) and the vet (Dr. Schwartz) were all incredible. They took such good care of our dog and us! They allow you to be with your pet during X-rays which I found amazing. No paying first then waiting for your pet to be discharged. You're as hands on as you're comfortable being. Amazing place. read more

What is there to say besides don't trust this place with your pet, your time or your money. To say we had a negative experience would at this point be an understatement. The behavior this practice has exhibited has been avoidant, evasive and disappointing. I called distressed after my dog was having complications healing from surgery after a lipoma removal. We arrived on a busy Sunday and were taken at the end of a triage. During our time there I voiced to MULTIPLE techs that my dog was bleeding through his gauze. 2/3 responses were a deadpan stare and the words "ok". It took 3 times of me asking/ pleading for someone to listen to me. Even then I was armed with loose gauze and a wee wee pad. When we were finally seen I was so relieved i let this all fall away. I was so happy my pet was taken care of I went home following their orders and protocol. The next day I realized all the sutures at the site had fallen out and we were back at square one after spending hundreds of dollars. Naturally I was upset and placed a call to the location. I was placed on an infinite hold 3 times with no answer until i called from my friend's phone to which they picked up immediately. I have been calling every day since Monday with not a single person giving me a call back or without any financial compensation for the negligent job they did. I have given them since Monday to give me a call back and fix this. I've called every day without a call back. So if you don't care about your pets or spending unnecessary money this is the place for you! read more

I brought my very young kitten in for severe breathing issues and left completely devastated. I was told she had an abnormality in her chest cavity and needed a surgery costing around $10,000, with no guarantee she would survive. I felt pressured to either agree to the expensive, high-risk surgery or euthanize her because I was told she was declining. What troubles me most is that besides given oxygen, I did not see nebulization or further supportive respiratory treatment attempted before being faced with these options. I ultimately euthanized her without feeling confident that every reasonable option to stabilize or further evaluate her had been explored. The experience felt impersonal and performative, and I was also disturbed by what I felt was aggressive handling of such a tiny kitten by some staff. I trusted this place because of the many positive reviews, but I would never bring another pet here. I walked in looking for help and walked out without my kitten. I strongly encourage other pet owners to ask detailed questions, request explanations of all available treatment and stabilization options, and consider getting a second opinion whenever circumstances allow.Also I can't post on Google cause apparently they are filtering all their bad reviews. They sent me to a surgeon that was supposedly great and works "miracles" at half the price without asking where I lived (67 miles away in Queens versus Riverhead at the end of Long Island) or mentioning it costs less because they are not 24 hours. My cat died after surgery. There were no post op stats. A worker there smirked when I said I was sad I was not there; I was getting physical therapy and clothes to stay at a nearby hotel as I thought she'd be monitored for days. Veg Pet may have also gave her a sedative to draw blood without telling me. This may have interfered with operation drugs. They claimed taking blood when she was "out" as written by them meant out of the carriage. (nonsense) They showed me no POCUS image that was taken. read more

My golden had major surgery in another facility but spent the weekend here. Dr. Schwartz and her team treated her like family I couldn't possibly put into words how loved and cared for she was. Unfortunately, 3 months later we were back and this ended up being our last day with her, we were treated like family, the kindness and care and VEG is unmatched. VEG ER Dr Fiore is an incredible , caring , empathetic, kind, professional veterinarian. She is in a class all by herself. I only wish she did private veterinary work. Her empathy and compassion is unmatched Sydney is the sweetest, kindest, most wonderful soul that I have ever met and it was during one of the most difficult times of my life Our beautiful sweet dog Lucky had to be put to sleep and it was one of the most difficult decisions we ever had to make My fur baby was suffering He was in so much pain. He couldn't walk. He wouldn't eat or drink. VEG put us in a private room. They gave us all the time we needed. Sydney took care of us as if we were her own family. I requested Dr Fiore as she had helped save my dog Porsche a few weeks prior. She said it would be her honor. She examined him and explained the situation. She explained the steps before and during it. We were all crying and Dr Fiore and Sydney were so comforting to us. The experience was as good as it could be considering the situation. After it was over Sydney asked us to tell her about Lucky. She made paw prints and nose prints and again asked us if we needed more time. She was an angel. I just want everyone to know the humanity and kindness that VEG Carle Place on Glen Cove Road showed my sweet Lucky and my family. I am extremely disappointed with the care my friend received at VEG ER, specifically from Dr. Casey McCabe. My friend brought her dog, Rusty, to the Carle Place location after he ate mulch and developed a blockage. This was a condition that could be treated with surgery, and my friend was fully willing to do whatever it took financially to save her dog. Instead of discussing surgery as a viable option, Dr. McCabe advised her to put Rusty down. As a pet owner, hearing that when there was still hope and treatment available is absolutely heartbreaking and unacceptable. Thankfully, my friend trusted her instincts and chose to move forward with the surgery anyway. Today, Rusty is alive, healthy, happy, and running around like nothing ever happened. I cannot understand why euthanasia would be pushed so quickly when the issue was treatable and the owner was willing to proceed with care. Yesterday my one year-old Dog got hit by a car. I put them in the car and I called veg told them I was on my way when I got there they were waiting at the door for us assisted me in with him took care of him right away not only comforting him. They comforted me. It was fast professional I could've not asked for anything better for such a scary situation? Within an hour, he was x-rayed sonogram pain meds on. This happened about a month ago, so my dog is good and well! I don't know what I was thinking -- I gave my dog grapes. She liked it so much that she wanted another one, and I gave her another. She loved them. About 30 minutes later, it hit me that grapes are toxic to dogs. I panicked. Her vet was closed, so I called the emergency vet. They asked a few quick questions and told me she needed to come in immediately so they could induce vomiting. I brought her in right away. They got her to vomit and also did a blood test. They recommended that she come back over the next two days for two more blood tests, just to make sure there's no kidney damage. Watching her go through that made me feel so heartbroken and guilty. I couldn't believe I gave her grapes -- it was all my fault. Through it all, I was so grateful that my boyfriend and I were allowed to stay with her during treatment. We didn't have to wait out in the lobby -- we were by her side the whole time. The doctors and staff were so calm and kind. I was in tears, but just watching how confident and reassuring they were helped me believe everything was going to be okay. They had a little refreshment station with coffee, tea, juice, water, cookies, and chips. It honestly felt like they were inviting us to come back, maybe not. I truly hope we never face another emergency like this again, but if we do, I'll absolutely come back here. We were seen quickly, and the entire team was efficient, compassionate, and professional. read more

The staff at VEG in Garden City were very comforting and caring. However, I was underwhelmed with their treatment of my dog. I brought my dog in on a Sunday AM (my regular vet is closed on Sundays) because of severe diarrhea ( to the point of not being able to lift her hind legs) all night on Saturday. I thought they would test the stool sample (VEG told me they do not test stool samples which I later found out to be untrue) and prescribe some antibiotics but instead they did a battery of blood work and found nothing and sent me home with some probiotics. She got worse and I brought her back after a few hours, after more blood work, I was sent home with some pain meds. My dog got worse over the next 24 hours, and when I brought her to my regular vet on Monday, they tested the stool and prescribed antibiotics for Giardia. My dog was better after the first dose. The bill from VEG was astronomical and my poor dog was still in pain, unnecessarily for over 24 hours, even after going to VEG twice. I filed a complaint with a manager at VEG in Garden City and they said they would run it by the Director but I still haven't heard back. My complaint was filed on May 11, 2026. Do your pets like to scare you into thinking something is wrong with them when, in reality, everything is okay? My baby, Jasper, decided to do this. It all started when he was walking around with low energy. He didn't want to eat and almost looked like he was limping. My sister and I decided to take him to VEG just in case it was something serious. We didn't want to chance waiting for his regular vet the next day. When we went in, staff were super friendly, and we were seen pretty quickly. Here's the kicker. What did Jasper decide to do once he was inside? He decided to act all fine and normal. He did this once a few years back, and he did it again. We decided to take an X-Ray anyway just to make sure that everything was okay. The best thing about this was that everything was okay (other than his heart, but that's due to his condition), and it was affordable. Plus, you are able to see everything that they do, as the examination tables are out in the open. If your pet is reactive, they have a separate room that you can go into. If we decided to go to another emergency vet near us (located in Queens), I can almost guarantee you that it would've cost 4k or more on unnecessary procedures. Hi! I originally posted this on Google. After seeing that they not only delete their bad google reviews but also 100% pay people to then spam 5 stars to drown the ones they can't delete out, I thought this would be useful to share! Also, just to clarify, they tried to save themselves by saying on Google that they "didn't think" it was their location. I 100% know for a fact that it was. TLDR: do NOT take your pets here. starting off this review with saying that the doctor knows exactly who she is and i really don't care. she can be upset by this review or, as i suspect, probably won't care at all. that being said, i didn't get her name because it was very clear when she first walked in that she would be no help at all. our dog has epilepsy. has had epilepsy since he was 3 years old. he's on several medications all prescribed by our normal doctors and care team and has been able to live due to the staff at VMCLI. he had 7 seizures in the span of 24 hours and we were worried sick. we called VMCLI who is an hour away from us. they were concerned, OBVIOUSLY, but told us that his team wouldn't be back in until monday. they said we could either make the trip, but risk him having another seizure due to the length of the car ride, or take him to the nearest vet hospital. so we decided to make the choice to bring our boy to VEG. a horrible mistake. we were brought in and immediately they took his temperature, and got his heart rate. the vet techs were the most polite and concerned people there. they told us the doctor would come in right away, you know... because he had SEVEN SEIZURES and it was obviously a dire case. this woman came in without a care in the world. didn't want to touch our dog. have no idea if it's because he had pee on him (due to his issues with his bladder while seizing) or if she has some weird preference for little dogs. she then berated us about one of his meds, even though we explained multiple times that he's on all of his medications for a reason. one of them isn't particularly for seizures, but to try and aid in them. she then asked "why would you come here instead of VMCLI?" we were VERY taken aback, and explained to her AGAIN that we were worried about the car ride and trying to truck our dog all the way towards the edge of the island when he's had several seizures in the last 24 hours. i should also mention that VMCLI very heavily suggested that he have some sort of IV, fluids, because that is typically how you stabilize a patient in a violent cycle of seizures. she then left, and when she came back she basically told us she wasn't a neurologist. our options were to: take him to VMCLI, or have her "do some math" with his meds. she told us several times that he didn't need fluids, and she wasn't sure why they suggested that. we were horrified. like i said, the reason that dog has been able to LIVE is because of the specific medications he is on. we told her we were okay with rescue doses, but his neurologist specifically put him on those meds because of the frequency of his clustering. she then said "if you aren't going to listen to my suggestions, i'm not sure what else i can do for you." she clearly didn't want to give us or our dog the time of day. all of this to say, they then wanted us to pay for the appointment, where they did NOTHING, and we promptly left. the last thing: we took our dog to VMCLI. we just got off the phone after our dog was hospitalized. he had been RUSHED back to the ER because they understood how dire the situation was. our dog not only needed fluids, but had DANGEROUS levels of dehydration. "no fluids"... she would have KILLED our dog if we had let him get treated there. i'm not sure what school she went to, but she needs to be FIRED. to be honest i don't care how dramatic this sounds. in this line of work not only do you need to be sensitive and understanding, you also need to know what you're talking about. no person with any sense would ever try to go against a doctor who clearly, as she stated, has more knowledge than you do about a particular issue. all of this to say, we will never come back. and honestly, i don't think anyone should take their pet here. the back room is complete chaos, with no rooms and surgeries happening in the same space as exams and besides the kind vet techs who probably don't get paid enough, no one there cares. read more

They gave my feral cat a complete checkup. Turns out that she has severe stomatitis. Took her to my regular vet and they had to remove all of her teeth. She also has some kind of itching that causes her to lick her chest until it bleeds. We now have her on medication and she wears a harness to limit her access to her chest. She is now our special house cat and is doing very well. read more

Around 0630 this morning I brought my 18+ year old dog Willow into the VEG. Willow has slowly been losing her quality of life over the last few months and early this morning she had a neurological event which was extremely disturbing. I thought she was going to die at the house but after 10 or so minutes I brought her into the vets office. My wife called while I was en route and the staff sprung into action and treated it like the emergency it was. After they were able to stabilize and sedate her they explained to me what Willow was dealing with. The Doctor was extremely patient, compassionate and she explained to us in a very professional and thorough manner what our options were. After careful consideration, we made the terrible decision that we owed it to Willow to put her down. It's the worst thing to do, but after she gave us 18 years of happiness and companionship we owed it to her to end her suffering. It's our responsibility to ease our pets pain and suffering, it's really the only thing they ask of us. The staff; at the end of their overnight weekend shift, during a snow storm, were extraordinarily kind compassionate and understanding. I hope no one has to go through what I went through this morning, but the staff that was working this morning were wonderful. I really appreciate and I won't forget the kindness they showed me and poor little Willow. If I could give them 100 stars I would. read more

This was the most traumatizing day of my life. Before I brought my boxer here, she had already seen her regular vet -- the one who saved her life when she was slowly dying from a severe skin condition called cutaneous vasculitis when she was about 4 years old -- her regulaar vet doesnt work as often as she used to and continued changing locations so the last time myah saw her was the day after thanksgiving, as well as urgent care vets. She had blood work done about a week before this visit and blood work done a month before that visit. ALSO WANT TO BE CLEAR THIS ISNT A EPISODDE OF ER YOU SHOULDN'T BE TRAINING SOMEONE SMILING WRITING NOTES ON A COMPUTER DURING A PROCESS THIS TOUGH I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE A PART OF SOME TRAINING SHOW AND NEITHER SHOULD MY DYING DOG, MY MOM AND UNCLE. The veterinarian I saw was blatantly rude and careless. She questioned me about my dog's blood work as if I were supposed to understand it, as if I were the doctor, when the entire reason I came was to get another opinion. I brought every single medical record with me, but because I was anxious and my dog was extremely ill, the papers weren't perfectly organized. Instead of helping, she acted annoyed and made me feel like I was being tested to be a veterinarian myself. She even pulled the papers out of my hands and read them out loud in a public room, announcing how sick my dog was. When I started crying, she kept going. My dog was on anti‑inflammatory medication, an antibiotic, a probiotic, and medication to help her appetite -- none of which were working, which is why we came. But instead of compassion, I got interrogation. She rolled her eyes repeatedly, spoke to me with a rude, blunt tone, and made me feel completely unsafe. After asking me to lift my dog onto the table, she did a sonogram. Then she sat me down and told me, with no empathy at all, that my dog had liver failure, multiple masses, and that it was "odd" I hadn't noticed seizures. I told her I had suspected something and had asked other vets, who told me not to worry. She dismissed that too. While I was having a full-blown anxiety episode -- practically blacking out -- she listed the "options": first euthanasia, then steroids, then chemo (which she said wouldn't work). She looked at me like I was a bad dog mom for not knowing medical information that no one had ever explained to me. Not one vet before her had mentioned cancer or liver failure. I knew something was wrong for a long time, but people don't take women seriously when they're worried about their pets. The euthanasia itself was traumatizing enough, but she didn't even try to make it peaceful. No candle, no comforting room, nothing I've seen other people receive. As soon as my siblings and dad arrived, she suddenly acted sympathetic -- to them, not to me. She had no shame telling me my dog was dying in the coldest, most robotic way possible. I will never come here again. Thank you for taking what was already one of the worst days of my life and making it ten times harder. As if losing my soul dog wasn't painful enough. The nurses were kind -- they offered water and a blanket -- but the doctor was the opposite. She was even training someone, speaking in a stern, performative "medical" voice as if she was about to save my dog's life, only to end by making me feel like an idiot for not understanding blood work fast enough. I'm a human being. I brought a huge binder of records. I went to multiple vets. I did everything I could. People like her put animals down and then move on with their day. They've never had a soul dog. They shouldn't be vets. You can be stern and still be kind -- she wasn't. She was just rude. I can't wait to pick up my dog's ashes and never let them see me or any animal I love ever again. read more

I only have good things to say about this location, and the respect they gave my family and me. They were transparent about her condition and the choices we had on treatment. Deceptive and predatory pricing practices. My dog had a tick bite and was showing all the classic signs of catching Lyme disease. We had these issues before and our regular vet was able to treat it effectively with an antibiotic prescription. Since it was Sunday and our regular vet was not open, I first called VEG to get an estimate because I know these emergency places usually cost more. However, I was told on the phone that they could not give me an estimate unless I bring my dog in for an "initial exam". So I brought my dog in to see how much it would cost to get an antibiotic prescription. The vet at VEG simply checked my dogs temperature/weight, and then presented me with a highly over-priced estimate of almost $1,600 (before tax). I kept telling them that I have a limited budget and they removed a bunch of non-essential tests and medications, but the total was STILL ALMOST $700 (before tax) JUST TO GET AN ANTIBIOTIC PRESCRIPTION. As such, I refused their services because I can go to our regular vet the next day on Monday morning and get much better service/pricing for the same thing. HOWEVER, as I was about to leave, a stuff member told me to come back in to PAY $215 + TAX just for getting the estimate!!! These are very deceptive and predatory pricing techniques to squeeze every penny out of pet owners who bring in sick pets. If you wonder what the $215 + TAX "initial exam" results were? The results were my dog "probably had Lyme disease" and I would have to pay a minimum of $700+ to get a simple antibiotic prescription. Dr Magnuson and staff are absolutely incredible, they got me in immediately thinking my baby had a blockage, he is doing so well now and we got to be with him at every point of care from x rays to blood workup, private room and a cosy blanket and meds to go home with that put my Simba at ease immediately.
