We took one of our cats to see Dr. Halpern after AMC Hospital in the city diagnosed her with cancer. Our cat Annie has lymphoma cancer and we wanted a second opinion on how to deal with the situation. After receiving the bad news, it's beyond sadness, but we want to provide as much care and love as possible for the sick cat. Dr. Halpern is a gentle professional animal doctor who understands my feelings and how sad I am now. Annie's and my quality of life also count in this. He wanted to know how much we would invest to keep Annie alive. On my first visit, I focused on Annie and paid little attention to the conversation. Hubby did most of the talking with the doctor. Tyler, Dr. Halper's assistant at the time, was a big help. He took care of Annie from the moment he took her into the room, removed her from the carrier, held her for Dr. Halper to examine, and then put her back safely into her carrier. Both Doctor and assistant gave Annie a nice pet. We had another assistant, Kiara(?) the second time we brought Annie here, and she, too, handled Annie with so much compassion. This place offers a lot of love and affordable bills. The big hospital, AMC in the city offers a lot of fees with less compassion. It was a pleasure meeting Dr. Halpern, his assistant, and the entire staff at Quality Veterinary. My life was turned upside down when I heard the bad news about Annie, but I have slowly recovered since then. His suggestion to give Annie daily IV fluid on top of daily medication is one of the best ideas! AMC only offers the med. Although Annie doesn't have much time left, she is now back doing her routine as she was living before the hospital visit. We're providing her with so much love and joy and we can't thank Dr. Halpern and this place enough. I highly recommend Dr. Halpern and the place to examine your furry babies! Thank you! read more

Brought in my chihuahua with cyst/abscess on its paw, which after a few days failed to respond to Keflex. We (veterinarian and myself) switched Keflex to Augmentin, which worked for about 10 days. But the cyst became inflamed after completing therapy. We decided to perform incision and drainage of the cyst and resume Augmentin. Again, after a few days the cyst failed to respond to Augmentin and we switched the medication to Vibramycin with pending cultures and the infection began responding. Despite giving Vibramycin with food after four days, my chihuahua lost its ravenous appetite, developed burps, and projectile vomiting. We waited for cultures, which generally result within 72 hours, but it took 168 hours! The cultures are performed to identify best and least offensive drug. Vibramycin is known to cause nausea, vomiting and anorexia in pets and humans--specifically the "hyclate" over the easy on the stomach "monohydrate" form. I called to inquire about the form of Vibramycin the veterinarian dispensed-- much to my horror, it appeared to be the hard on the stomach form! The profuse vomiting caused my chihuahua to lose lots of stomach acid, which destroyed the body's delicate acid-base balance. Despite prematurely stopping the Vibramycin he no longer had the ability to consume anything with visible distress. Upon bringing the "hyclate vs monohydrate" debacle, the veterinarian countered that both forms are exactly the same; meanwhile, the veterinary textbooks contradict her narrative based on human and feline studies. The veterinarian suggested for my chihuahua to come to the office for hydration. Honestly, she lost all credibility with me (being former critical care pharmacist) asserting and maintaining both Vibramycin forms are the same. My buddy's last 36 hours were spent seizing with his seizures becoming more frequent by the hour highly likely due to profound acid-base imbalance. Even if we did come to the office to identify proper corrective treatment, with the blood work taking 24-36 hours, it would make no difference because the blood work would not be back in time. My gentle buddy, who never hurt one soul, died in incredible suffering. read more

Went for a spay consultation 2 days ago. Was told my cat was overdue for vaccinations and rabies shots and it was "the law" to get them done. The shots were given as well as the blood work. Last night I found my cat weak on the ground and she passed away this morning. She was full of life before receiving the shots so either the wrong dosage was giving or both shots should not have been administered at once. She was feisty so they didn't even check her weight before deciding to give her the shots. read more

Don't ever have a problem or serious pet issues with this vet and be aware of overbilling for so called "extra procedures needed." I would not trust this vet especially with a pet procedure, get a second opinion for sure. I took my pet for a check up and they recommended a small procedure which required extra procedures like blood tests, pre surgical testing and heart sonogram all which added to hundreds of extra bills. In the end the procedure was not required or done and I was left with bills amounting to over 1,500 dollars. When I called to question the bill or explain how suddenly the procedure was not done the hell began. The staff kept hanging up and the manager never even called back to explain the bill. I had to constantly call to follow the issue and even the manager feels a need to hang up constantly when questions are asked. Their motto is to hang up even for slightly uncomfortable conversations and blame you for questions and distress caused by their unprofessional staff and extra bills. They will accuse you of being rude meanwhile their constant hanging up and lack of follow up just makes the situation unnecessarily horrifying. Finally after I decided to pay in full even the extras for the sake of my pet and on the promise the procedure would get done they decided to discharge my poor dog without procedure and after thousands of dollars were paid. I had paid in full just to end the insanity so my dog would get the care they said was needed and in the end my dog did not get the procedure. I was disgusted and considering taking them to court for this horror but honestly so glad to never have to deal with them again. Be very careful if your pet needs serious medical attention they will overcharge and in the end abandon your pet after the torture you endure if you dare to complain. Never met a most unprofessional team. Disgusted but glad we won't have to deal with this anymore. At least the nightmare is over and now being careful before I pick another vet. read more

Have been taking my dog here for years and has always been good. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable and pet friendly. My last visit was an emergency where my dog had a wart on her head which kept getting bigger. At first it was small and they told us to leave it alone but as it grew we decided to have it removed. However this wart which was later described as a growth and started to bleed one night. We called Quality and they told us to came right down. This was at 6:30 PM and they closed at 8:00PM. When we arrived there wasn't a long wait and it was decided to remove it immediately. My poor little Coconut came out with a cone on her head and no growth and she seemed ok. She was given a shot for pain and we were given pain medication but she didn't seem to need it in the days to follow. Went back a week later, stiches removed and a few days later cone was gone. The cost was reasonable and my little doggie is fine. Very grateful to Quality for taking so good care of Coconut. I guess that's why it's called "Quality Veterinary Care", Thank You. read more

During these times it is very sensitive. However I do t understand why businesses customer service are not good. We as customers also are taking the time out to spend our money and contribute to your business. Let's just say I was more than early to my appointment. I called 30 mins before the appointment times to inform we are as they instructed us to be (my dog and my self). We were told, they will come. Cars came in after to me, way after us. It's now going on 40 mins after our appointment no one has came. At first I thought okay maybe they had appoint before me. But it's late as we speak it's going on the next hour. Cars are pulling up and they come for their dogs. I called a second time, she look and apologized. I'm like wth, come on. I'm waiting almost hour and a half for my dog to be seen. Not to mention, if your instruct us to stay in the car your coming right out. I would expect you to come right out. Just like you would expect me to be on time for my scheduled appointment. Please remember I am here at a vet ...because my dogs sick. On top that I have dip in a car, going in two hours ... The attitude when I booked was distasteful. I'm soo not going here again or recommending anyone I spent a little over $3000 dollars for a surgery for my dog and they put stiches in my pet and when I returned to have the stiches removed a section didn't close properly, the vet put 7 staples to close the section and told the desk to charge me $25.00 extra for the staples. I ask the vet why are you charging for something that wasn't done properly after I spend $3000 dollars his reply I know how much you spent but I have to charge you for the staples with out caring. On monday 10/4/21 @9am i took my pup to get a nail clip & anal gland fix, after they were done they locked my 5 lb pup in a room on the floor and had a seizure on the floor behind the door. I picked him up in horror and they asked if he had a history of seizure. No one read his chart before treating him. I walked outsude with my dog while he was seizing and the receptionist followed me outside to get a signature for the credit card payment, nope she could not wait. Evil, wicked, awful, dreadful animal killers. They promised a refund, but never called. Dont go to this dreadful place. I've been taking my dogs here for years and been very happy. A few weeks ago, my dog started with a bad cough. Dr. Metheny told me to bring him in right away at my last visit. I called QVC, they took him in right away, but his lungs were filling with fluid (congestive heart failure) and it was time to let him go. Great staff at the front desk...so nice. I used to like the service that Quality Vet Care provides but soon learned this establishment only cares about making money and performing unnecessary tests. On my second visit, Dr. Scire examined my dog and said he appeared to be in pain when she touched his stomach. I asked "could that be attributed to constipation?" She did a digital rectal exam and I unknowingly got charged for it. Also, xray's were done and it turned out to be nothing. Next, the cost of my dogs bloodwork increased to $107 in less than a year. I was told by the receptionist that their prices have increased. I paid for services rendered however, I found another hospital that charges $75 for the same tests. Third, my dog had a repeat thyroid panel done and before the results came back Dr. Scire wanted me to purchase his current dose of medication. I asked when will his results come back and she said tomorrow morning. I said I will wait until then. What doctor prescibes medication when final results are still pending? My dogs dosage may need to be increased. And then what? I have to pay for another prescription? I will not be returning. My recommendation is to inquire about pricing before services are rendered. Find a veterinary hospital that cares about your pet than racking up charges. read more

I brought my dog in for swelling on the nose 30 minutes before close and they fit me in. I had to wait a while because they 3 other emergency cases come in that in all honestly were more serious than the issue my dog had. But it was worth the wait. This place was highly recommended and now I see why. I brought my dachshund here this past weekend for his yearly shots. Back story: My dog gets extremely fussy/worked up and does NOT get along with other dogs (or people). For that reason, I'm always extremely anxious when it comes time to bringing him out to the vet or any place really. Everyone at Quality Veterinary Care was wonderful, very caring, and made us feel comfortable. I was surprised at how calm my dog was during the examination and while he was getting his shots. Dr. Mehlrose has been our vet for many years. Over the last year, we've also started seeing Dr. Scire and, most recently, Dr. Lieberman. I couldn't be happier with all three of these doctors--so much so that I never ask who I'm going to see when I schedule an appointment. They are all excellent and appear to genuinely care about the animals. Dr. Scire is probably our American Bulldog's favorite--because she kindly accepts our bully's sloppy kisses. Quality Vet's prices are affordable and they don't try to play on your fears in order to up-sell you on things you don't need. Unfortunately, I've experienced this several times with other vets in the area. The office staff is friendly and helpful and they always seem to squeeze us in when we have an emergency. Sometimes, you may have to wait on hold for a long time on the phone, but that's because this place is generally pretty busy. Be patient, they are worth it, and they will probably give you that same time and attention when it's your turn. They are open 7 days a week and have some late nights, which is great for me. But, overall, I base this review on the fact that I trust these guys with the my babies (dog and cat) and that says it all. read more

I'm a pet parents... I'm also going to say it's safe to assume you are too because you're reading reviews of this place. Needless to say it's really important to find a place that you feel comfortable with and trust with your fur baby. My mom has taken my baby here before, so when she told me to go I wasn't hesitant. My baby was experiencing some pain and she needed a follow up on her vaccinations. My mother called and had already explained the issues and concerns to the receptionist when she made the appointment. I was happy that there was a small parking lot behind the building(I hope it was for customers). When I walked in it wasn't crowded and didn't smell like a bunch of animals peeing and pooping all over the place. I signed in, and she knew exactly what I was there for and just instructed me to wait for the doctor. It wasn't a long wait either, so that was also a plus. I do not like wait times, I'm super impatient. Vet doc was clear and explained everything simply for my mother(on the phone) and I to understand. on may 15 2020 paco had some seizures so i took him to emergency hospital and they stabilized him and told me he might have a brain tumor and discharged him on sunday afternoon with seizure medication. the next following weeks he had some mild episodes and they increased his dosage. on june 9 i went to his original dr. scire who read his emergency room files and noticed enlarged liver report. she checked his blood sugar which was off the chart and increased his insulin and told me the seizures are from high blood sugar levels. and prescribed anti convulsion medication and now he's doing great. dr. scire is highly intelligent and this is why i went back to her because of her professional skills and knowledge. 5 stars to one incredible veterinarian . ask for her treatment trust me you won't be dissatisfied read more

I have spent approximately 97% of my 30 years living in either Valley Stream or Elmont; those 30 years have been consistently blessed with the companionship of at least one (though usually more than one) pet. My pets are my raison d'être; they are my proof of God. I have perpetually sought the best care for my furry children. In other words, I've tried most of the other vets in the area; they are not Quality Vet. Quality Vet provides superior service in a well-lit, clean environment. My husband and I bring our dogs and cats there, and we have always felt that the health and safety of our pets are the priorities. Quality is home to multiple wonderful vets, but we have always particularly sought the advice of Dr. Metheny. What sets Dr. Metheny, and the rest of Quality's staff, apart from other practices is that they are gregarious. I tend to ask manifold questions, and Dr. Metheny has always answered them. When you walk in, you do not feel as though you are pestering the staff. They know their patients, and they talk to you like human beings. Recently, we needed to have a dental cleaning for one of our dogs. The thought of anesthesia had us emotionally drained. This dog was there for me during one of the hardest times of my life, watching my mother die a slow, painful, agonizing death over the course of an entire year. If I made a decision, the decision to opt for an anesthetic dental treatment, that caused him harm or ended his beautiful life, I would never recover. Although I am aware that dental cleanings are "routine practices," I could not quell the blizzard of anxiety. Dr. Metheny, who really is simply a saint, answered all of the questions on our scroll of inquisitions. I cannot stress enough that I would not have trusted anyone aside from her with this procedure. Right now, my family is happily sitting together because my precious dog successfully went through the cleaning. Most of the reviews I saw on here were about cats & dogs, but I wanted to add some information about ferrets! I took my two ferrets here today for their distemper & rabies shots. Dr. Liebermann was wonderful! She really knew about ferrets & handled my babies very gently. The assistant was also well knowledgeable & had no problems scuffing my two little furbabies while they got their shots. My girl had a little bad reaction to the shot (as some ferrets do) but Dr. Liebermann sprung into action & my girl was feeling just fine in just a few minutes. She was super patient & had tons of information for me. Getting there was easy. There is a small parking lot right around the corner & there was anough of room when I went in the afternoon. The offices were very clean & the staff was super friendly! They helped me make my next appointment & let me have my ferrets roam around the waiting area. They warned me when a dog was approaching the office so I had time to put them back in their carrier. Even when my two ferrets had a potty accident, they thanked me for cleaning it up immediately. read more

My dog has been going to Quality Veterinary Care since we brought him home three years ago, and I have never had anything but a wonderful experience with the doctors and the staff there. We've worked primarily with Dr. Mehlrose, who is knowledgeable, competent, compassionate towards the animals, and kind to their owners. We recently worked with Dr. Liebermann when our dog got very sick for the first time in his life. Drs. Liebermann and Mehlrose were wonderful to work with, taking our repeated calls, and accommodating emergency appointments every day for four days. The doctors are not the only good thing about QVC - the vet techs and assistants know my dog's name, and treat him gently and with care. I can't say that my dog loves going to the vet, but he feels so comfortable with the staff that he even gave a vet tech a kiss while strapped onto the X-Ray table. Apache is not a generous giver of kisses, so this was pretty monumental! I love QVC and look forward to many more years working with the doctors and staff. read more

Me and my boyfriend had purchased a 2 month old puppy from the pet store that works with this vet. The vet check our dog before he took her home and said she was fit for sale, which was a lie. They did not check her properly for everything she could have had and let her be sold. Over the next few days of us having her me and my boyfriend noticed her poops were getting liquidy and she wasn't as active. We took her here and they told us to give her medics for 10 days, they told us if she's not eating to bring her back. So we went home but I didn't feel comfortable not having her in what I thought would be professional care. They never gave us any updates on her, or ever bothered to call us, we would always have to call in order to know what's going on with our dog. They would have us wait for 45 minutes to 1 hour for them to come to the parking lot and we would have to call them to remind them we're still waiting. Not only that but they left our sick 2 month old puppy with out proper supervision and care over night and she dies alone. They gave us her medical records which was all disorganized and most of the "medical" notes written were our conversations not anything to do with our puppies health. Lastly the main vet there was very rude and yelled at me through the phone and was very insensitive about the situation and told us if we didn't like it to go sue. DO NOT COME HERE !!! read more

We have been coming here for 3 years ever since we moved into Nassau. Previously, we went to a small vet in the Whitestone area and after switching here, it made us realize just how terrible that old vet was. Their office was always so dark and grimey, the receptionists were these old cranky ladies and their vet techs were cold a uncaring. The vet himself didn't have great bedside manner and never explained anything unless we played 20 questions. Worst of all, the two times our dog had to be put under for a procedure, he was left in a cage with his own urine, which soaked his body for god knows how long until we could pick him up. At QVC, the receptionists are always so cheery and happy, the vet techs really seem to care about your pets wellbeing and the vets have great bedside manners. Domo, our 5 year old male Yorkie, had mysteriously hurt himself a few months ago. We suspect he was jumping up on some furniture and fell while we weren't home, as we noticed he would wince and yelp everytime we touched him on his shoulder. He was always super tense and just had a look of alarm. We gave it a few days, thinking it would just go away or heal on its own; I made an appointment which was a week away just in case it persisted. However, that evening he just looked to be in so much pain that I called QVC and asked if they had any appointments the next day (Saturday). The receptionist offered me an appointment right away - but I mentioned that I was home by myself with my 3 year old son and our dog and it would be hard to do. Without hesitation the receptionist said, bring your son we will watch him for you! This wasn't the first time that the staff at QVC entertained my son and we are always grateful that they don't find him distracting or annoying (lol). I think QVC has a lot of compassion and isn't run like "just a business". Our previous vet just retired and my fur baby has a bad eye infection. I called the vet that took over and left a message when there was no answer during normal business hours. I am in a panic and afraid she is going to lose an eye. Off of the yelp reviews I called QVC. They answered the phone, offered an appointment an hour later and we took it. We walked in and I am realizing now that there was no smell. I mean zero odor. In a nutshell, I only waited 10 minutes in the waiting room and saw the doctor within 2 minutes of the vet tech leaving the room. Dr Scire gave my fur baby a thorough exam. Reassured me that she was ok, prescribed the necessary medication and we will be following up with her next week. I have been to the 24 hour vet in Valley Stream and watch out, their billing is outrageous. We are checking out of the office and I am concerned because I haven't seen the bill yet. Now the bill, I don't think I was charged an emergency rate, just an office visit. Medication, reasonably priced, and testing, also reasonably priced. It doesn't get any better than that! I have a 14 year old Chihuahua. I have just changed vets due to the reviews. I can't say enough wonderful things. Dr Melrose is absolutely awesome and let me tell you about the staff. I'd like to put them all in my pocket and take them home with me. Each and everyone of them showed such care and concern for my Chloe. I highly recommend this vet.
