The office is in a home. They never answer the phone. Had to drive to the office to find out about procedures. The staff seems constantly in a rush, never polite - rather on the rude side. I used this veterinarian for my feline to obtain checkups and rabies shots. The tend to evade questions; since no harm has come to the animal, I am going to continue using this office. However, due to staff rudeness I will need to find other Vet office where they treat the client in a more amicable way. read more

Dr. Steckler's veterinary practice is located inside a home & it doesn't look like an institutional vet practice. It's homey warm and inviting, beautifully decorated. His staff is also a pleasure to deal with. They are kind & always accommodating. I have a senior dog that isn't easy to deal with, but they are wonderful handling her. Dr Steckler is a wonderful veterinarian. He explains procedures in detail & makes sure you understand medications or treatments. He is always very professional & caring. If you are looking for a vet who is greatly knowledgeable, will treat your animals with compassion, but also be frank with you about their health, Dr. Steckler is the best. He answers questions with clarity, and will not hesitate to tell it like it is in order to best advocate for his patients (who can't advocate for themselves!). His prices are also very competitive. Scott Steckler was my dog's vet for 12 years. My dog had Cushings and diabetes which we managed together for the past four years. Recently, my dog was in serious distress. I phoned the office and had to leave a voice message. I never received a callback after many follow-up phone calls to his office. I was left with no choice but to bring him to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG). We did not use his recommended hospital as per his voice message of Oradell Animal Hospital because of past negative experience and geographical distance. After completion of treatment, VEG attempted to contact Dr. Steckler to no avail. I continued to call my veterinarian of 12 years to let him know we needed to see him for follow-up care, but did not ever receive any callbacks. Finally, left with no alternatives, we had to turn to another veterinarian and called for Rocco's records. Still we did not receive any callbacks. I was forced to put a note on his door requesting specific records for Rocco. As usual, there was no response. I left a desperate voice message on a Monday. They responded that day with a text message stating that our pet's records would be hanging outside the door. We were never in arrears regarding billing and we always had a cordial relationship with the office. Scott Steckler and his staff abandoned us in our time of need. We recently lost our beloved Rocco because of his complicated medical issues. We feel that Dr. Steckler was overwhelmed and not competent enough in treating our pet and did not afford us any other avenues for his care. Shame on him for treating us as he did at the end of his patient Rocco's life. We are shell shocked. read more

Been bringing my dogs and my cat to Dr. Steckler for years. Five stars isn't enough. Been to several other vets in the area before finding Dr. Steckler and none of the others compare. His staff is warm, knowledgeable and accommodating and he is fabulous. Unlike many others, he is not all about the money but genuinely has the animals' best interests at heart. He doesn't over-vaccinate or over-medicate and never pushes testing and operating. He gives best and worst case scenarios and then let's you decide. Brought my sick, elderly cat to him this weekend thinking he needed to be put down and after spending several days getting fluids, medication and abscess surgery, he is home and seems to be rebounding (and the bill was substantially less than I expected). A long overdue post but still wanted to share with everyone how thoughtful and patient Dr. Steckler was with Ollie. he took time to warm her up to him and was very patient and gentle with Ollie. We went in back in the summer for an eye infection she had and he even took the time to demonstrate how to put on the ointment. He also sent Ollie home with a welcome package with very cute toys and homemade treats. It's been a couple months but her favorite is still the bunny toy from his office!! Came here when my dogs mouth was bleeding and had an infection. During the 1st visit, it didn't feel like he didn't do anything except just looking at his mouth and not giving us a diagnosis. We were not impressed with the enormous amount we were charged and the gift bag we were given did not make up for it. Luckily this all changed as time went on, the pills Dr. Steckler gave us worked a miracle for my dogs mouth. We did dental work as well and did not cost as much as it would have at other places. So happy we switched from Fair Lawn Animal Hospital. Bottom line: He does not play around misdiagnosing animals and playing games with follow up visits. Very straightforward and honest vet. I have not owned many pets but in my tenure I have realized that vet hospitals are, above all, profit generating businesses. I have heard numerous horror stories from friends telling me how they were charged exorbitant fees for routine visits and even more if their animal required special care. I expected no different when I picked Dr, Steckler. He was the closest and I figured that ho hum care and ridiculous fees were all part of the process. I could not have been more wrong. His office is warm and quite friendly. Same with his staff. He is a caring vet and, while I am no expert, he seems to know exactly what he's doing. In the world of mass market animal hospitals that act more like factories than offices, Dr Steckler stands out. He offers old fashioned hands on care and his fees are more than reasonable. I have recommended him literally dozens of times and he has yet to disappoint any of them. As for criticism......he could use a bit more variety in the waiting room candy dish :) Otherwise it's all good. Kudos. read more

Dr. Steckler has been my vet for well over 20 years. Maybe the difficulty with the practice has something to do with the pandemic because that's when it seems to have started. It hardly matters whether he's a good vet when you can't get the office to take your call. Call during business hours and you get a recording that the office is closed. On the rare occasion that I actually got someone on the phone I couldn't get an appointment for weeks nor did I get the requested call back from Dr. Steckler. Over the last year, until I finally gave up and changed to a different practice, I've spent hundreds of dollars more than needed because I had to take my dogs to Blue Pearl. What would you do if your dog was sick and you couldn't reach your vet during regular office hours? How would you feel if you pick up your dog's ongoing medication and the dosage was incorrect? I was sorry to leave the practice after so many years but my dogs need to have a vet that's responsive. Dr. Steckler used to be and he blamed all these problems on staff but ultimately he's responsible for his staff. do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. read more

Our dog Frankie has been sick and was having bad seizures over the past 3 months. Last Friday, he had a severe exacerbation and had to stay at the veterinarian's office for 6 days because the seizures became worse than ever and he was not coming out of them. Frankie was basically in a comatose state for 2 days after they controlled them and was unable to stand and function after his eyes opened. On Frankie's 5th day, we were going to put him down because he was significantly impaired and recovery appeared unlikely. Our veterinarian, Scott Stekler (shown in picture), remained positive and worked tirelessly to help him even though the future looked dim. On the morning of Frank's 6th day, we were all under the impression that Frankie was going to be put down. Instead, we received a call from the Dr. Stekler saying Frankie had miraculously started standing and moving around. Instead of going to the office to say goodbye, we were going to bring him back home. When Frankie came home, Lou was absolutely ecstatic to see him. Frankie is still recovering now, but is doing better, and we have no idea what to expect from here on out. The vet is still stumped as to what exactly happened, but can only formulate hypothesis' at this time and the prognosis is questionable. After taking all my pets to over priced Oradell Animal Hospital, I wanted to find somewhere where we get reasonably priced yet personal and attentive care. After reading a ton of reviews here, we took the leap with Dr. Steckler and we are extremely happy. You enter a very inviting and comforting atmosphere where you are greeted along with your pet by a friendly staff. We've had a couple of office visits and were always taken on time and Dr. Steckler cut no corners and did a thorough check up on our pup. He also made sure to answer any and all questions we had and wouldn't let us leave until we fell comfortable that all our concerns and questions were addressed. We leave behind the constant unnecessary outrageously priced tests that OAH forced on us when simple tests/diagnosis would have been sufficient. We couldn't be happier with our new vet! read more

We took our French Bulldog Violet to Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital and we were very pleased with the service and very reasonable cost. We have moved three times in the last six years so we've taken Violet to at least five different vets. I was really impressed at how calm Violet was at Dr. Steckler's office. Usually she starts to get nervous while on the examining table, but Dr. Steckler seemed to have that calm assertive energy that Cesar Millan is always talking about. Horribly disappointed in someone who, by nature of his career, should be caring. Instead found to be incredibly arrogant. Went to another vet who offered Accupuncture and Chiro for my dog but when I went to make appt. with Dr. Steckler for the dog teeth cleaning and 2 masses removed, I was told that I'd been "inactivated" and that in order for the doctor to "reinstate me" I had to be referred by a specialist before Steckler would see my dog again. Trying to understand what that meant, I was told that Dr. Steckler was "disappointed" that I had gone to another vet but 'would see my dog again' (like he was doing me a favor). Apparently, Dr. S is so arrogant that he believes that he should be the only vet your animal sees or he will drop you as a patient. Perhaps, if the Glen Rock Vet Hospital was full service and offered additional services that are needed for an aging dog like Chiropractic and Accupuncture, then he wouldn't have patients that needed to have 2 vets. read more

I brought my kitten to Dr. Steckler today for the first time and I have to say I'm very impressed. Warm waiting room and friendly staff. When I first got her in August, I brought her to a veterinarian in Ramsey and I trusted him with the services my kitten needed. He gave me an estimate to have her spayed and I almost fell over. About $700 for a stray mixed kitten...are you kidding me?? I called a well known 24 hour veterinary hospital in my area to ask if that price sounded correct and they started to laugh! Now I feel like I've been "had" by some of the unnecessary treatments. I will always do right by new kitty but to be charged crazy prices just because I live in a wealthy area is wrong. Dr. Steckler gave me a reasonable estimate on her spaying which shows me that he's not money hungry but truly cares for animals! I will be bringing her there for her surgery instead of the other veterinarian. The lovely "cat ladies" of Ramsey Petco highly recommended Dr. Steckler and now I am. Wish I knew about him sooner. What is also very important to me is the amount of time spent with a patient. Dr. Steckler took his time and answered all my questions no problem. The other veterinarian couldn't get out of the examining room fast enough. I felt like I was a bother... I felt very uncomfortable. Glen Rock Veterinarian also gave my kitten a "goodie bag" filled with awesome cat toys...no veterinarian does that! So happy with my choice!
