They scheduled a zoom/facetime walk-thru of my apartment to see what I needed and to give me a better quote. I had started packing already and got all my own boxes so it was easy to see what I had left. What I really liked was the 'no BS' hidden fees. It was one price that wouldn't change, no matter the hours or added last minute box. Of course my move was scheduled and it had to snow. Thankfully this didn't stop them. 4 guys showed up right on time (during a snow storm on a friday morning rush hour in the city). They walked thru and got a game plan, then brought up all the blankets and plastic wrap and got to work. TVs were dismounted and put in boxes, mattresses were put in boxes as well. The amount of blankets they used to wrap my furniture made me so happy. While they took their time, they were still hustling - running from the truck to the apartment. Once we got to my new place, they covered my stairs with runners and wore plastic booties to ensure my floors weren't messed up. I wish I had bought the wall mount for my TVs for my new place, because they offered to set me up. The only thing I was disappointed about was that my couch didn't fit thru the garage entry so it was left in the garage. I wish they had tried thru the front door but they were adamant that it still wouldn't fit. After 7 hours, I wasn't going to push them. I price-compared a ton of NYC moving companies and J & G gave me a competitive moving quote. Additionally, the building I was moving into required a certificate of insurance (COI) and J & G was able to offer it for me for free. A lot of other companies charge for this. Before moving, I communicated with them via email and they always responded promptly and were very clear about what their moving package included. The day of the move, they called and asked if it was okay if they came an hour early. They were very communicative with me during the whole move. The lead guy (forgot his name!) assessed how many things I had and then discussed with the other 2 men on how to efficiently approach the move. The 3 men were over 6' tall and strong, and they were able to finish my whole move in a little more than 1 hr! I did not have anything that was easily breakable but the men treated my things with care. They provided blanket and shrink wrapping for all of my furniture. Everything was loaded up into their truck very quickly. These guys wasted no time. When I arrived at my new apartment building, they had already started unloading my things. I had my boxes labeled with what was inside (i.e., kitchen supplies, shoes, jackets) and they actually placed each box in the corresponding room. Best of all, there were no hidden fees. They ended up not charging me a processing fee that was included in the quote and gave me $40 off my quoted price. The movers were so friendly, communicative and professional, I will definitely be using J & G Moving again! I also wanted to note that on the day of my move, the street I was moving from was blocked due to construction. J & G movers did not complain or make any mention of that until I had stepped outside of my apartment building and noticed it. However, note the following: Packing and moving services were both utilized. Representative came to review primary location of belongings to be moved (approx. 90-95% of the total) and was provided with a detailed video of the remaining items, stored at a different location. Despite this upfront information, (a) the total weight was significantly in excess of the estimated amount, resulting in damage to the transport vehicle and a 2-day delay, and (b) at the secondary location the supervisor informed us that there was insufficient room for everything. He had to be cajoled and convinced into making the extra effort... which proved effective and successful. A number of bookcases were damaged during while handling and required subsequent repair, at our expense. One item was a tool cabinet containing a variety of hand tools, hardware, and the like. The crew's solution to this was to simply wrap and seal the cabinet in plastic, and put it in the truck. By the time it was in place at the destination, we found that the contents were in utter chaos, luckily with minimal breakage. Some softbound oversized books were placed in boxes haphazardly or sloppily, resulting in significant creasing of wide swaths of pages. A few items additional appear to have gone missing (none of particular value) and a small number of items were broken. Overall I would in fact recommend their services, particularly in consideration of the pricing, but I would strongly recommend that if you contact them for packing services that these be closely and carefully supervised.

The worst, most dishonest movers I have ever used. They did not number and label every box,…read moreenabling un-numbered boxes to become lost or taken. I found proof of that when I walked outside while both movers were inside during delivery. I found two of my suitcases away from the truck and not numbered. When I asked why the items were left unattended, Aurelio told me it is their practice to save un-numbered items until last. Family Moving's delivery driver also refused to reassemble a sauna, despite the fact that I had prepaid for the service. Aurelio demanded an extra $600 and a tip to pick up a smaller truck, even though he knew prior to delivery that he should have something smaller than a tractor trailer in any gated community. Aurelio later asked for a glass of wine to relax. In my ongoing communication with Family Moving since March, the company has defended the driver due to his tenure and Family Moving demanded I withdraw the complaint filed with the Federal Motor Safety Commission., later denying they wanted me to withdraw it. Family Moving called the wrong area code for an entire week and claimed I never called back, so they couldn't talk to me about delivery and truck size. They even sent me the call log to prove they called me. I told them they called the wrong area code and I never received a call or messages from them. They responded with another call log showing the wrong area code. They must not think I know my own phone number. Ironically, their driver called the right area code when he called me to say he was outside the gate with a tractor trailer. Family moving also sent the call log showing they did speak to our HOA and were told not to bring a tractor trailer. They brought a tractor trailer anyway and passed the charge to me. I believe it was a planned extra charge. Family Moving offered to pay the invoice from a private contractor who ultimately reassembled my sauna, but only as a payment of good will. My attempts at communication with Family Moving have failed. Perhaps these issues are just too familiar to them. The last communication I received from Family Moving indicated they no longer wish to communicate about this with me. I hurt myself by not reading the reviews first. Please do not use Family Moving.
