We are writing a review for familymovingnj llc. I called the moving company 3 months in advance to get a quote on moving from Pennsylvania to Maryland. I sent a message regarding what I needed to have moved as well as date and time to be moved. I received a call back from the sales associate. He explained that I would receive an accurate quote after my list of items to move are provided. There would be no visit to my home by the sales person to view my items. I provided a full and accurate listing of all items to be transported from my home in Pennsylvania to Maryland. The sales associate asked several questions about size and type of items as I walked around my home and tagged them. He noted each and was clear on what was to be transported. After a couple days, I was provided a quote of 1,300 sqft and 9,100 lbs. I approved and received the bill of lading showing all of the items we agreed on the call. The quote was reasonable (I thought). After the 2 months passed, we were 2 days out. I hadn't heard from familymovingnj. I called and they mentioned they would call the day before with a time to arrive. This also was not communicated at the time of the time or in any of the documentation.
The moving day finally arrived. The Saturday morning came and 4 men arrived in a nice size truck approx. 2,600 sqft. They were ready to go and began packing and loading items. This is where everything went SOUTH. First, the foreman indicated there was an additional cost to wrap "Fragile" items. Items considered "fragile" are TV's, mattress, pictures, mirrors, etc. Basically, anything that is not furniture. This also was not mentioned. Each Fragile wrapping or additional box was 95.00 or more! Why is this not part of the moving process? Without additional wrapping they will not move items! Next, within the next 2 hours the foreman comes to me and says, you have bee allotted 1,300 sqft and we have a 2,600 truck and your items will surpass the allotted sqft and we are not even half done. He says we can either stop here or re calculate the total amount after we are done. He anticipated what was left would fill the entire truck. At this point, there was no choice since they had already wrapped and loaded many items. He made a call to the office to inform them ( I am sure they already knew). He was correct. Total was the full 2,600 square feet and a table had to be tied to the outside back of the truck. The cost was twice the quote along with the aforementioned "fragile" costs. My wife and I called the office. They said "well it was a quote" sometimes they are under. I would agree that maybe 100 or 200 sqft over but not from 1,300 to 2,600+ sqft! The offered us a refund of 100.00! Buyer beware!!!! If I could give them less than a 1 I would. The worst moving company! I have moved 5 times in my life. Never have I seen anything like this!!! read more
