Can't say enough good things about these guys. Really helped take the stress out of moving. Took apart the king size bed, put it back together. I thought the job was gonna take 3-4 hours, they did it in 2. Meaning they arrived at 8am, and were out at 10am, even with parking and travel. Before your move date, I highly recommend you contact your local parking authority to get "No Parking" signs beforehand, and consolidate as much stuff into as few boxes / bags as possible. (Extra large trash bags can come in really handy.). Pre-pack as much as you can 2-3 weeks in advance too. Last, I recommend you offer waters / snacks, and I think tipping guideline is about $20 / mover per 2 hours (they certainly deserved it). Thanks!! read more

I moved out of a 3 bedroom in JC and despite the fact that there were no parking signs put up by the parking authority, of course there's always going to be one that doesn't heed notices! Thankfully, their professionalism and commitment to getting the job done made them park 2 houses down and carry all of my furniture there! Patient? Without a doubt! They wrapped and protected everything! They have tools in hand for when that couch that was assembled in a room doesn't fit through the door, they handle it!! I did some searching for movers in the Jersey City area and Catlow was one of the first ones I found on Yelp. The previous reviews were spot on, these guys didn't disappoint! One of their employees came to my apartment to do the estimate in August, and after I verified with them that I would use them, they gave me the info I needed: that I'd need to contact the Jersey City Parking Authority to obtain No Parking signs for my street so Catlow had enough space for their truck, and that I contact my new place so Catlow and them could exchange the COI (Certificate Of Insurance). They also stated that they move boxes and furniture, but will not pack any boxes (which is a given, but I figured I'd state that). Moving day was booked for Saturday, October 3rd. I had a move-in window at my new place from 11am to 3pm. Catlow said they'd be at my place at 8am to start the move. They arrived on time with six movers. We ran into a snag with the parking because people on my street lack reading comprehension, but it all worked out. They moved all of our furniture and boxes into their truck by 9.30am. We arrived at my new place by 10am and were allowed to start our move-in prior to my scheduled time, and we were all moved in by 11.30am. Fast, professional service. All of the movers were nice and helpful and very respectful of our belongings. The estimate was an exact match for the final total, as well. Catlow Movers are true pros and true to their brand of service excellence. I just used them yesterday for the second time. The team of 4 movers (all wearing face masks) showed up in front of my building a few minutes early ahead of schedule, and wasted no time getting to business. In under 30 minutes they had all my stuff moved out and onto their truck. At my new place they worked miracles; the stairwells up to my apt are narrow; the first one surprisingly so. I don't know how the hell they fanagled all my furniture and heavy items up there (in the sweltering heat, too) , but they did. They worked incredibly hard and didn't complain once. My appointment was at 8 am and there were 2 trucks ready at 7:50am. There were 5 or six men, ready to work. Not once did they complain, huff of puff, all they asked was *Do you want us to take that? How about this? Do not lift that! We will take your fridge if you do not tell us not to..* They handled each piece of furniture with care. Moving can be so stressful, but due to their calm vibe, it was the best move I had EVER experienced. Best of all? They were FAST! They started moving around 8:30 (had to wait for the cops to remove some cars so they could park) and they had me in my new place (.9 miles away) at 12:30!!! Done deal! While I did not use Catlow for our move, however they were one of the people I asked for a quote and the experience was great. The reason we did not use Catlow was because we needed a moving company that will pack up all of our stuff and Mark and his crew did not offer such a service. Don't bother looking for other movers. CATLOW IS AWESOMMMMME. Marc came for the estimate on time and was done in minutes. Day of the guys came right as scheduled and were ready to go. It had just snowed a few days before and my landlord (wish I could yelp him) was not having the stairs swept (he pays someone) till much later. But the guys had it taken care of in no time. The guys were great and fun. They were friendly enough where it wasn't weird that they were messing in all my crap. We chatted it up and had fun while working - but never enough where it slowed us down. Best combo. Rocco noticed my ikea bed frame was set up improperly and made sure to fix it at new place. I also had a nice le creuset Dutch oven (shit expensive) that was unwrapped due to its siZe - so Louie wrapped it in a blanket and tape for me. Yeahhhhh. They even remembered the name of my stuffed koala bear by end of day (her name is Frances). I mean - they made sure to properly cover and protect all my crappy ikea furniture the same way they would for a person who can afford to buy preassembled furniture. TOP NOTCH FOR ERRBODY. I was charged $50 less than the estimate so that was a plus. I'm guessing they might be slightly higher in cost (honestly didn't look) than others - but you get the best service you could ever get from movers. By end of our time together I was glad to have it all done but bummed we had to say bye. It was a big day that could have been very stressful into a good experience. I contacted Catlow's based on the strength of previous Yelp reviews and you guys did not let me down. I called for a quote and Irv Catlow himself came to my apartment. On move day the crew arrived on time. They were polite and professional, and the foreman told me exactly what the plan was to get out all of my furniture and boxes. I have a LOT of stuff and was woefully under-organized. They even took my mattress and box-spring over a terrace railing when it wouldn't fit down the stairs! Irv estimated ~5 hours and the actual move including travel took exactly 4. The price didn't revise down but I think the speed and care with which they moved was worth it and I certainly wasn't gouged beyond what was already quoted. All of the guys have a great sense of humor and take pride in their work. They are really careful to check in every step of the way to ensure you're satisfied. When we discovered the floor in my new place was uneven in the spot I wanted the entertainment center, Rocco told me how to level it out and left my TV on the floor (with my permission) to make sure it didn't tip over until it could be fixed. As Katie S.noted, get your signs from the city to hold parking for the truck, it will make everything so much easier. One annoyance, which was as much my fault as theirs - If you're paying by credit card you have to give over the phone in advance or go to their storefront on Summit Ave. I didn't know and they don't have a cc machine on the truck so I had to run to the bank for cash or bank check. Luckily it wasn't far away and the guys were really nice about the short wait (it probably didn't hurt that i'd already tipped them). Thankyou to Rocco and his crew. They really did a good job with my move. I moved out from the fourth floor and into a second floor... both walkups. Both a pain in the A$$. Most of the other not so local movers not only gave me the business they also wanted to charge an astronomical sum for a small amount of stuff without even walking thru the places. These guys on the other hand gave me a fair price and an easy moving day. They place boxes where you label them, bring enough men for the job AND they even come in UNDER (THATS RIGHT UNDER) the estimated time. Highly recommended. If there's only one bad thing its that they are hard to find out about! I wish I had known about them in my last 6 or 7 moves.... Would have saved me time or back pain.... Great moving experience I must say. We found Catlow here on yelp! After inquiring 3 other companies for a quote, Mark came the very same day my wife called for a quotation rate! At the end we decided to have them as our movers!! And we could not be happier! They arrived 1hr early and unfortunately our last building did not allow them to use the elevator until 10am! But Mark was super nice, explained they were going to wrap furniture and boxes in the mid-time and they did not complaint!! (about the elevator) They were awesome! Very helpful and polite guys! by 9:55am 90% of the boxes were in the hallway waiting for the elevator!! 2.5 hrs later we were out of 70 Greene!! Their written estimate is fair and not over the top like other companies!! No hidden charges! By the end of the day that is what you pay! Nothing was missing or damaged as they are careful and professional! The was no communication issues either! They even vacuum 1 of our rugs before taking it to the truck!! All the boxes were labeled and they are now where they should be! If you live in Jersey City or any surrounding area you should hire them! We HIGHLY recommend Catlow as your movers! These guys are the experts. How often can you positively review a moving company? Once. Catlow. After so many other disaster experiences this was a breath of fresh air. Irv made a conservative estimate of hours and ensured I had gotten the "no parking" signs posted here in Jersey City. When the crew arrived, it was very fast and efficient. 4 guys, each with different strengths. They disassembled everything, took it down to the truck, and for a one-bedroom apartment it went very quickly (maybe 2 hours tops). They had to park the truck about one building down from our new place, because the cops were slow to tow a guy out of the spot we had reserved. Problem? Pssh. The guys took the stuff out of the truck, down one building, and up the stairs anyway! They were done by the time the cops got there. Super quick, friendly and efficient. Highly recommend. read more

I truly cannot imagine an easier, more seamless, low-stress move than the experience we had last weekend with Catlow Movers. The owner himself came out a few weeks ahead to check out the apartment and give us an accurate quote. I had gotten multiple quotes and his was right in line with what I had hoped/expected, and significantly lower than some of the others I had received. When he left, my husband and I knew we had made a great decision. On the day of the move they were on time to the second of when they said they'd arrive. 4 guys came, and they had cleared the apartment in a fraction of the time I had expected, and taken amazing care of all of our furniture. I wish we could give two different ratings - one for the staff who actually do the work (5 stars!) and another for management (1 star). BEWARE! The price estimate you are given, which is based on the number of hours which one of the owners estimates the job will take, is the minimum charge. My move took a full hour less than estimated, and yet I still had to pay for the extra hour for all three movers (which is not cheap!) Therefore, it's free money for the company to always over-estimate how long your move will take. To add insult to injury, when I called the owner after the move was finished to ask him about the extra hour charge, he was rude to me. It is also worth mentioning that the movers showed up to my apartment a full hour late. The men who actually physically moved my stuff, on the contrary, were excellent! They wrapped my furniture, were very careful of everything, and were very pleasant and helpful. read more

We moved about 25 miles from a storage unit to a new apartment in Jersey City and these guys would have done it in 3 hours, including travel and packing time had the fire alarm not gone off in our new highrise the minute we arrived. Despite the 45 minute setback, they spent every minute organizing and unloading the truck and were ready to go the second we were allowed back in the building. Plus they didn't charge us for 20 minutes we went over on an hour due to the unavoidable fire drill delay. Overall my experience was okay. The move was smooth. The reason I only have 3 stars because I was not happy that they charged me more the estimate quote. They said because they took more time to move, so I was charged with the extra time. The movers came to my old apt at 8AM on the move day when I was not expecting them till 8:30-9. I called the day before the move and told him to come earlier but I did not expect they were 30 min earlier. So instead of packing stuff in my old apt before they could use my elevator in my old apt, they were just hanging out in the lobby. Then one of the movers wanted my old furniture since I was just going to throw it away. He spent time packing my old furniture and guess what? Time was wasted there. Then they did not help me throw away my big bag of trash in my old apt when they told me they would. So I had to go back to my old apt and threw it away myself. I was happy with Mark who came to my apt and accommodate my work schedule when I asked him to come for estimate. But I just was not too happy with the fact that they charged me more because they took more time. Hello, if one of your movers did not spend time packing my old furniture that he wanted to take home with him and the guys did not waste time in the morning just chatting in the lobby while they could be spending time packing, perhaps they would not waste as much time and then turned around and charged me for that. I researched movers online (including yelp) and shortlisted three movers to give an in-house quote. Catlow, Moovers and Moishe's. Mark (who owns Catlow Movers along with his father) came in person at 7:30 AM to provide a quote to me to accommodate my work schedule. He is really smart and straightforward, provided honest answers to whatever I asked. His quote wasn't the lowest, but with a five star rating on yelp, I decided to go ahead with them and the decision was a good one. On the moving day, his men were on time, very fast and professional. They patiently wrapped our furniture in shrink wrap/paper pads and also paid attention to the boxes we had marked Fragile. They started at around 8:30 AM at our condo apartment at the Beacon, and worked without taking a break till the work was done around 2:10 PM at Hoboken NJ (including commute). Their truck was clean, and other material used by them was well maintained. I watched my boxes and furniture as they carried them into the destination and not even one showed marks of wear, as much as a scratch, which showed how well they had handled them. Finally, for the part that impressed me the MOST! The time taken was 1 hour and 10 minutes in excess of Mark's quote, which clearly had words "NON BINDING" which means they are entitled to charge more if they took more time. But he honored a NON BINDING estimate, and charged me only what he had wrote on that yellow piece of paper. Talk about honesty and integrity, to stand behind your quote. Obviously, I tipped his good men generously, but my move was within the budget that I had outlined because of this excellent moving company. I moved every year in the past three years and used Catlow as the mover during my most recent move. And thumbs up, they really did a good job, professional and efficient. They sent a staff to estimate the cost before my move at a reasonable rate and was accommodating with my schedule. They charged me as estimated, which is good and important because believe me there are a lot movers out there charge you tons of additional fees when they came on site on your moving date and ripped you off. They came on time (actually earlier), took good care of all my furnitures, did not make any scratch on both my stuff and the walls , and they did it so fast and with cautions. It was snowing the date I moved and they wrapped all the pieces so all my stuff remained clean and dry.
