A friend of mine suggested the octopus at Opa, so I decided to yelp it...5 stars wow! Well I think it was 3 1/2 too many. If I had to rate this place accurately id give it a 1 1/2. The octopus was decent, but 8 little pieces for $16 was a rip off...good thing everything else was reasonably priced. The chicken gyro platter, at $16, was fresh, but didnt have much taste, potatoes were good though. The major problem besides the food being ordinary was the service. I watched as my greek salad sat on top of the kitchen station for 10 minutes. When it was finally brought over the lettuce was soggy. The other food took forever to come and I had to wait at least 10 minutes for someone to come over to give us the bill and then another 15 for them to grab my credit card. Been here a few times over the last 4 years & unfortunately it has gone downhill. I was just there again a few days ago and the spanakopita tasted old, the falafel too dry and bland and the potatoes not as good as they used to be. I think they really need to focus on the freshness & flavor of the food. As a Greek, I expect a certain taste of the standards I always get, and it has not been that way. Great food, great takeout -- the spicy feta dip is phenomenal and I also recommend the fish (ask them what the specials are). I have eaten the food a hundred times but have never ate in the restaurant, strictly takeout for me, but it looks like a nice place to eat. Service tonight is real slow. The waitress seems to be having problems keeping up with her tables, and the restaurant is only half full. The appetizer was served cold as the waitress almost forgot it. The octopus became rubbery before it hit the table. She seems to be more interested in talking to a family she knows than in caring for other patrons. The service is usually good, something has changed. read more

Definitely my favorite Greek restaurant! Great service and great food. I've tried a bunch of dishes here and they've all been great. I pick up lunch a lot and the food is always ready quickly and always fresh. One of the reasons I like Opa is for their Greek salad-the dressing is so good. The best endorsement I can give is that my brother, who would gladly eat an entire cow wrapped in bacon, chooses a salad from Opa when we go out to eat. This place is super underrated. Food is really really good. The octopus is cooked perfectly and then finished on a charcoal grilled for a great flavor. Souvlaki is delicious. They have awesome cheap house red and white. Service is quick and courteous. All in all we know each time we go here, it will be quality home style Greek cuisine with excellent service. Having married a Greek woman 5 years ago, traveling to Greece, and also being a "foodie" I feel I am uniquely qualified to give an objective and expert review of Opa Grille in Bethpage. If you are like me and have been yearning for something more than your typical Long Island version of Greek cuisine, Opa Grille is for you. Most of the time, what passes for Greek food is over dried lamb slices on stiff pita bread with a flat yogurt sauce, and tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers that are more of an obstruction than an ingredient. Opa Grille breaks the mold and provides Greek cuisine that rivals the best I have had in Astoria (but lets be honest, nothing comes close to the motherland). The prices are great and the wait service is friendly and helpful. The star of the show is a delightful grilled Octopus which is the closest I've had to eating in Greece since visiting and dining waterside in Santorini. The Pastitsio I had was extraordinary and from what I tasted of my wife's dish, the filo dough was prepared perfectly in all cases it is used (spinach pie/meat pie) and the traditional lamb slices used in the Gyro and other dishes was juicy and not over salted. Amazing Greek food...that simple. They have all the standards and some special items on the menu, including dinner specials. Take-out and dine-in available. You will not be disappointed with anything you order, but the Horiatiki salad (basically a Greek salad with no lettuce) with grilled chicken is divine :) Appetizers are also very good, especially the spicy feta dip and the saganaki. read more

We used to love this place. The last couple times the service and kitchen has been horrible. We been waiting 45 minutes for three salads, they still aren't out yet. Last time I waited 25 minutes just for a soda. The time before i ordered a filet medium as a special and it came out extra welldone, I sent it back it came out rare and I waited so long for the one that came out rare I just took it to go and cooked it at home. This used to be our #1 place to go every week. They are always short staffed and there is no management to take care of any issues. Sadly we won't be coming back. read more

We have been eating at the Opa Grill in Bethpage for years, and we have never had a bad meal. The ambience is great, the food is very good, and the prices are reasonable. The salad is wonderful, with a special dressing. I especially like it with the pork toping, but the chicken, gyro and just plain are also delicious. I read them back the phone number from my cell phone and nothing. Blank stares. Not one single apology from anyone. I just said forget it and walked back. Found this little gem while traveling for work. Fried calamari was good and the gyro sandwich was delicious. Portion sizes are gigantic. Everything was fresh , warm pita bread and taziki sauce are served when you sit. Family run business making homemade food always try to find places like this instead of the chain restaurants. read more

A neighborhood restaurant that serves high quaity Greek fare at a reasonable price. Friendly staff even when under pressure of higher than usual amount of patrons due to large power outages in the Bethpage area. Great Lemon soup and the Spinach pie appetizer makes a whole meal. read more

I go to this place a lot and the food is good but they never give you utensils or enough white sauce. I think they should provide utensils and Napkins and more sauce. I ordered a huge Greek salad with gyro over it and only got one sauce no other salad dressing with it as well. Provide these items and it would be better. read more

All the food here is so tasty and delicious. We've been coming here with family for many years and have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and make you feel at home. Grilled octopus is the best around. Lamb chops are so good that I want them every visit so sometimes we get them as an appetizer so I can get something else. Wow. I could not believe how horrible the food was here. By far the worst Greek cuisine I have ever had. The gyro meat was way overlooked and cold. Pita bread stale. Pork souvlaki was fatty and cold. Salad was soggy,and soggy feta cheese is disgusting. The rice pudding was watery. The baklava was stale. HOW CAN YOUR BAKLAVA BE STALE! Shameful. The one star is for the gracious counter girl. This truly is our favorite local Greek place. It is so hard to not take this out every weekend. Whether it is a gyro, souvlaki (not spelled right) platter, spinach pie, etc, we are never disappointed. It is a local place for us which makes it extra hard to resist! I always get a chicken dish smother in tyziki sauce, and my family loves the lamb and dark meet platters. Other towns surrounding Bethpage and off of the 135 are not nearly as good. One down fall of greek food is that it is not cheap. But you know you get what you pay for! We will always come here for greek, no where else! read more

Ugh, I really do hate love/hate review but I have to do this. I read the reviews here and I thought finally a place where I can have some really good greek food and it's also nearby my neighborhood. I came here on a Friday for dinner. The place didn't seem packed at all, which of course is alright and we (my bf and I) were seated promptly. The beginning was off to a good start, got our waters, ordered our food, but that's when I started to get a tad antsy. I ordered spicy feta dip as an appetizer which I was uber excited about. spicy+feta cheese = deliciousness. Nothing was wrong with the dip, I really enjoyed it. What sort of killed it was not getting a plate of my own so I put my bread and dip. Alright, I'll let it slide. I ordered a chicken souvlaki which wasn't bad but it wasn't the best thing of all time. My bf ordered a gyro and he tells me it's alright. Maybe he didn't want me to hurt my feelings since I sort of hyped up how good the gyro is, but he didn't finish it which really meant something. Now the service, the whole time while we're eating, NO WAITRESSES/WAITERS CAME BY. I really could've use a water but they were just magically gone. About, 15 minutes later, a waitress came out and asked if everything was alright. I was a bit ticked, so I just asked for the check. The plates were taken, but the check took a very long time and again, it wasn't very busy. Now as I'm waiting for my check, diagonal from me, I see two waitresses sit down on the table where customers are support to eat, poured out all their tip money on the utensils that PEOPLE EAT!
