No apologies for the miscommunication or offer to work with me when I said I would be looking to move to another storage company. I'll be moving my things to Public Storage in the next week. Too bad SmartStop's owners need to squeeze more money and lost a customer. Would definitely NOT recommend this business.

We rented a unit here to store some stuff of my mom belongings that died of cancer, and when we went to check on them, we were horrified to find that the place was completely infested with rat dropping. We even found a dead rat. Unfortunately almost all of my moms sentimental items were damaged beyond repair. Furniture, family heirloom- completely ruined. I tried to reach out to the staff and district manager Derrick, hoping they would help or at least compensate for the damage, but they were completely unresponsive and dismissive. It felt like they didn't care at all about the situation or loss we experienced. No apology, no offer to fix the issue, nothing. Instead I was stuck with the responsibility of cleaning out the unit with risk my health to see what I would reserve anything that was left of my mom. I was also let with a bill when I had to hire someone to help me hual everything out of my storage that was damaged. I can't believe they let a place this unsanitary and unsafe be open for business. PLEASE do yourself a favor and find a more professional storage facility - this place is a nightmare that robbed me for Over a year. Absolutely awful experience. There were footprints on the wall which also makes me believe they might have came in through the top. I have photos of the footprints on the wall & my mattress leaning against it where the person might have landed or used for leverage. There are no cameras on the hallways & in no which way is this location secure. A couple days ago we received notification of a fire on the basement but management should also send notification warnings of thefts & break-ins. The only thing management offered was one month's free rent. Nothing else was done to help. Storage spaces are paid to keep your items secure & it's frustrating that this happened. I was told to make sure to enroll in auto pay to get a discount every month. NO DISCOUNT, they just want your information to charge you faster. Then the price started going up without any notifications or explanation. $100 then $120 then $130 then $140 ... etc. for a 5 x 10 unit that basically had items worth less than the storage unit. I had a dolly, camping gear, a few folding tables and that's it. But who cares about what was in there. I finally decided to leave the unit, so I removed all items out, went back and cleaned the unit (see the pictures), let them know I was no longer there. BAM! I WAS STILL CHARGED FOR THE NEXT MONTH. The greedy workers there are telling me that I needed a 7 day notice to vacate so I was still charged for the following month. SO MUCH FOR THE MONTH-TO- MONTH AGREEMENT. Now I am debating if this is worth going to small claims and missing work for $140 dollars. What's next? I will probably be charged again next moth for leaving a truthful YELP rating. BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE RENTING FROM THIS STORAGE FACILITY…read more Based on our experience, I would strongly caution anyone considering storing their vehicle, trailer, or belongings at this facility. There have been multiple break-ins, and the lack of security and response from management has been extremely concerning. Our trailer was broken into and damaged while it was on the property. The door was actually drilled through and damaged in order to gain entry. What is perhaps most disturbing is that no one from the facility contacted us to tell us what had happened. No phone call. No notification. No concern. No follow-up. We were left to discover the damage ourselves. This was not an isolated incident. Vehicles were broken into and catalytic converters were stolen from an entire row of vehicles. There have also been trailers damaged and broken into and storage units burglarized. The situation raises serious questions about the facility's security and surveillance. From what we experienced, the cameras do not appear to be functioning properly, and it does not appear that anyone is regularly monitoring or even checking the camera footage. What is the purpose of having security cameras if they aren't working or being monitored when multiple break-ins are occurring? We were also told by an officer that people have been renting storage units online using false information specifically to gain access to storage properties and commit theft and vandalism. If this is occurring, the facility should be taking its security and access procedures extremely seriously. And what happens when you report a problem? In our experience, nothing. The property manager never contacted us, never followed up, and showed absolutely no concern about the fact that our property had been vandalized on the premises. No one even bothered to notify us that our trailer door had been damaged and left open after someone drilled through it and broke into our trailer. Instead of feeling like management was concerned about the safety of customers and their property, we were left with the impression that the attitude was essentially, "Your problem." The security at this facility is a serious concern. During our experience, I personally observed the employee responsible for the office/security area sitting on her cell phone and eating chips while customers were dealing with stolen and damaged property. Watching this while people are losing valuable property is incredibly frustrating and unacceptable. The prices at this facility are outrageous for what is being provided, and based on our experience, there is simply not an adequate level of security or customer service to justify the cost. A storage facility should take security seriously. When a customer's property is broken into, management should at minimum notify the customer, acknowledge what happened, document the incident, review available surveillance footage, and follow up. We received none of that. If multiple vehicles can be broken into, an entire row can have catalytic converters stolen, trailers can be vandalized, and storage units can be burglarized without customers being notified or management appearing to take meaningful action, that is a major security failure. If you are considering renting here, please do your research first. Ask very specific questions about recent break-ins, functioning cameras, whether surveillance is actively monitored, access control, and how management handles theft and vandalism. Our experience has been extremely disappointing. I would not recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for a secure place to store valuable property. If I could give zero stars, I would.

She really had her work cut out for her with us and she handled everything with more grace and understanding than most of us would tolerate trying to manage so many units and the bs that comes with it. We recently lost our apartment and we're living out of our black box truck right now, trying to move and keep all our things that mean a lot to us. It took us forever to get settled and honestly we know we can be a handful. We stay too late sometimes, trying to get things finished and we've even gotten injured a few times along the way trying to rush. It's been hard. I really wish we were able to continue storing our stuff here but unfortunately we're kind of big nuisances with how much stuff we have and how long it takes us to get through everything. Even with all that, Mary Helen kept her grace the whole time and treated us with compassion. This isn't a fake review or a sob story, it's real. For all the storages we've ever been to, this was the most positive experience because of her. She was patient, kind, and truly understanding.
