I contracted OnCall to install a wall with a doorway between my master bedroom and bathroom (It was wide open when I bought the house). It was a house I just purchased and wanted the work done before I moved in. They got to work quickly per my request. They did an amazing job. You would have no idea that there was never a wall there. They matched the door, the hardware, the crown molding along the ceiling, the molding along the floor, the paint... And speaking of paint, because they were afraid the paint match wouldn't be absolutely perfect (They were taking samples and having it matched via computer), they repainted the entire adjoining wall as well as the new wall they installed so that there would be no issue with a slightly mismatched paint. Also, during this time my water heater (located in the attic) sprung a serious leak, damaging my ceiling and the wall between the garage and kitchen. I called a "water damage restoration" company that told me it would cost over $2,500 just to dry out and remove the damaged materials. They then told me I'd be on my own to get another contractor to replace the sheetrock/insulation and re-texture/repaint. So I figured I'd ask OnCall since they were already there and for about $750 they took care of all of it: Removed the damaged sheetrock/insulation, replaced it with new sheetrock/insulation, re-applied the texture to the walls and ceiling, re-painted. And again, they didn't just repaint the damaged areas, they re-painted my entire kitchen *AND* living room ceilings (Since they shared a ceiling) to make sure there was no evidence of paint mismatching. These are two huge rooms. After my satisfaction with this work, I also utilized the handyman coupons they offered a couple of times to take care of some minor blemishes on my old house that I was putting up for sale. Again, they were willing and able to work around my schedule getting me a handyman very quickly and helping me get my house on the market on time. Overall I was very impressed with their willingness to make sure I was happy and correct any potential issues very quickly. As with any contracting work there are going to be points of confusion between the various teams (Painter doesn't know he needs to match paint or drywall guy not knowing that the door guy hasn't been there yet). Instead of getting upset, as some reviewers seem to have done, all I did was pick up the phone and call Anthony (I guess you could call him the foreman for my project) and he always sorted it out very quickly, and the end result is work that actually beat my expectations. read more

I am a member of one of the listing services for contractors. They had a coupon for 4 hours of handyman work and $30 each additional hour. I thought that would not be a bad price to get some work done on my house and if I liked their work, I would definitely hire them again. I call the number on their site and the voicemail was not even set up. I called the other number and spoke to the office manager. I asked them if they serviced the Kyle area. The lady told me it would be a $50 "trip charge". $50 trip charge? My office is off Parmer. Its not THAT far to drive to Kyle, especially If I am going to hire you and then bring you back for even more work. When I mentioned that $50 was a bit much for a "trip charge", the office manager in a snooty tone replied, "Well that is our policy." Your policy? You are not going to get much business with a policy like that. What its the point of even offering a coupon for 4 hours of work if you are going to tack on a bunch of extra fees on top of it? I have had a few other contractors who have come out, gave me an estimate for free and did not have a problem with the drive. Thanks, but no thanks. I guess I should have read the other Yelp reviews because apparently, I am not the only one who has gotten bad service from this company. read more

I called OnCall to get a bid for repairing the fence around the property, build a new gate and a few other small items. The previous owner of my house had used them in the past (over 4 years ago) and had left their contact info. When Beau came to the property, he immediately remembered the work he had done for the prior owner. We walked the property and right away, I knew that this is someone that knew his trade and business and had high standards for the work he did. He noticed a small issue with a gate he has installed for the prior owner (due to the rain, the ground had shifted and the gate didn't close completely) and said "I'll fix this at no charge - consider it warranty work" even though nature's elements had more to do with the issue than craftsmanship. Beau's bid arrived promptly and when he promised he would deliver it. Julie, the office manager called to follow up and make sure I received it and ensured I had all my questions answered. Beau was willing to work with me on price. He pointed out the areas where he did additional steps to ensure longevity of the fence and also matched the price of other bids in other areas. I just knew that Beau was fair and would "do the right thing" and that gave me the confidence to award OnCall the project. The work went without a hitch. It took 6 days to complete (5 if it hadn't rained!). They even threw in a few extra things here and there for free. Beau checked in by phone twice a day and came by the project at least once a day. Beau would answer his phone or call back promptly. The project leader would give me a summary each morning of what they planned to do and a summary in the evening before they left on what they've been able to accomplish. I thought I was picky and OCD, but I found out that Beau was even more particular about the quality of the job. The guy hand picked the replacement wood boards himself to make sure it matched the old fence as closely as possible! Who does that? The job exceeded my expectations in every way. Most importantly, the OnCall crew always did the right thing to make sure the quality was there. For example, the crew realized that in some areas spraying the fence could get paint on some iron work .. so instead, they painted by hand (which takes longer) and even covered the grass so paint would not drop on it. It is rare to find a contractor who cares more about the quality of the job than you do. This is someone who is principled, takes pride in the work and values his customer's satisfaction and his own reputation. I can't say enough about the OnCall team - I've had experience with contractors where once they secure the job, they stop calling back or if they get to 90% of the job, they move on .. Not in this case. OnCall made sure the project was 110% to my satisfaction. read more

Note: This is a review of our kitchen renovation. TL;DR - Beau is good but the quality was awful and all of our delays were related to the team needing to fix their own mistakes. Ok first of all - it sucks that I can't give OCHS a good review, because Beau is a good guy, and he GETS IT when you talk details and vision for your project. He listens to your concerns and makes you feel like you're in good hands. Problem is, the service pretty much stops there. Communication down to the subcontractors is non-existent in both directions, since once he gets your money Beau kind of disappears from the project and leaves you to deal with the Project Manager he's assigned. And I do get it, that's how management works... but at what point do you become accountable for the work product of the people you manage? Subcontractor quality was atrocious on almost every section of the renovation. Highlights below, and they are not even remotely close to a complete list of what went wrong: (1) Everything (sadly, not an exaggeration) the electrician did was wrong and had to be redone. Not to mention the damage he did to newly-laid flooring and the walls when installing our ovens. Or leaving the power off to the house for no reason beyond "he forgot to turn it back on." (2) Flooring guy ignored instructions on the underlay we chose and shredded up baseboards, quarter-round, and t-moulding we had wanted to try to reuse. (3) Drywall guy managed to get texture spray on pretty much all our belongings, even ones on the other side of the house (to this day I can't figure out how he managed that...), and then he just never showed up again and our Project Manager had to finish up the work himself. And for the record, no one ever came back to clean the texture off my windows, doors, floors, staircase, etc. (4) Tile backsplash was laid unevenly, grouted poorly (I could do it better, and that's saying something b/c I can barely open a window by myself), and not cleaned appropriately after grouting, so our beautiful tiles were clouded with grout haze until I sucked it up and cleaned them myself. (5) Plumbing not moved to correct locations which caused giant, unnecessary cuts in our beautiful (excruciatingly expensive) cabinets. In fact, all the subs pretty much scratched our cabinets to hell in some way, leading to multiple trips by our cabinet guy to fix all the dings, dents, scuffs, inexplicable cuts in the wood for poorly routed plumbing, etc. Side note: I got really tired of our PM trying to tell me I was crazy for expecting clean and evenly-laid tiles or floors laid to my (not demanding) specifications. It feels like I got more excuses than I did actual, quality work. Mostly because we got very little quality work... we're still finding things we hate about the way they did the reno, but I dread saying anything to Beau about it because even if he does agree to fix it, I just don't want any of them inside my house ever again. I'll spare you the sob story of how the team managed to lock me out of the house at 2am and then tried to blame it on me... But I will tell you this: they WILL be careless with your stuff, leave garbage (not demo-related debris, just actual trash) everywhere, and disappear for days with no explanation. You expect delays - but not when they've shut off power to your house or left giant pieces of drywall on your front lawn in the middle of the day and just never came back. The horrible thing is, we purposely chose OCHS knowing they were pricier, expecting better quality and service. We had multiple recommendations for them and thought if they were so highly regarded it was worth the extra money. Now we're left with no money, a kitchen that still needs work, and nightmares about the bathroom reno we have to do. I won't be using OCHS again, but if you decide you like Beau enough to take the risk on his extended team, be sure to *make him* prioritize your project (i.e. actually show up every now and then). Otherwise, you will go from being an easy going, flexible, and mostly normal human to a scarred, feral cat who obsesses over every detail because literally every detail is wrong. This included removing "popcorn" from the ceilings, remodel the bathrooms, remodel the kitchen, change the flooring, change all the electrical, change all the lighting, some plumbing work, paint the whole house, and replace some of the doors. It was basically a complete remodel of the whole house. The estimate for the work as on target and the time to do the work with exactly as estimated. We could not be happier with the work that was done. The house looks amazing. Beau helped with working with a supplier to get just the right materials for the house and suggestions on where to get the best prices. OnCall Home Services recently completed a pretty complex repair on my home. The skirting surrounding my 1950s house was in a complete shambles and Beaux's team repaired and replaced the majority of it in 4 days time, along with a substantial amount of trim and drip edge. This included building out framing for the skirting, removing and replacing siding boards and other additional tasks to simply adding new skirting. I am incredibly disappointed in the services NOT provided by OnCall Home Services. We bought an Angie's List Deal to refinish our front door about a month ago and have been unable to set up service for an entire month. The culmination of our experience ended today, when they cancelled our appointment. When we originally called a month ago, they said they were unable to schedule us due to "computer problems" and that they would call us back to schedule. Fast forward - my husband had to call them back to ask if they were able to schedule. They were able to schedule at that point, and we scheduled for this week. They scheduled two different contractors - one to replace our door sweeps and one to refinish our front door. The first contractor who replaced our door sweeps was nice enough, however, when he arrived out our house he had no idea what he was supposed to be doing for us. Strike one. Once he learned that he was here to replace our door sweeps, he said that he only had us scheduled for three hours, and if he was going to have to run back down into Austin to grab supplies that he probably wouldn't have enough time to do the work. What? He and my husband decided to run over to BMC Millworks and my husband had to pay for the parts because the contractor was unable to purchase the materials. We were also never informed that we would need to have the materials on hand. Strike two. He did a good and fast job with that after all the kinks were sorted out. The next contractor we have not had the pleasure of meeting. He was supposed to come yesterday, (Wednesday) to refinish our door. My husband got up early and waited for him, and by 9am when he was an hour late my husband called OnCall to see what be going on - figuring he was probably stuck in traffic. The lady on the phone was confused, as she had him down as coming today as well. She called him, and then called us back - the contractor, (who sets his own schedule) wasn't due to come out until today, (Thursday). Not ok, but alright we'll do it tomorrow. One would think that she would have confirmed his schedule?? Fast forward t o this morning - my husband wakes up early again and waits for this guy... supposed to arrive at 8. OnCall calls at 8:45 and cancels - WHOOPS...can't do the service today...it's going to rain. Well, according to Weather Underground there's a 0% chance of rain in Cedar Park until 8pm tonight. Strikes three through infinity........... While I will preface this summary with the lady on the phone was responsive and nice... here's how we really feel: We called Angie's List and told them about all of this. We received a refund for our Big Deal purchase and we are done with these incompetent clowns. Do not use these people, they do not have their collective crap together whatsoever and are a complete waste of time. read more

We hired this company September 2013 to renovate a 250 sf detached garage into a home office. The job included insulating, hanging drywall, installing lighting, baseboards, windows / doors, and texturing / painting. The PM Anthony was very difficult to get in touch with and spent most of his time off site. Communication between he and Beau the GC was nonexistent. The lack of supervision, and terrible quality of work done by OnCalls preferred sub contractors meant most things were done more than once or took twice as long. The job dragged on and we had to push very hard for it's completion after not seeing anyone from OnCall for at least a week. A walk-through with Anthony and Beau devolved into Beau arguing with us and saying the building was going to fall down soon anyway. It's still standing. A tree fell on it in late July causing minimal damage that a competent crew was immediately able to fix in one day. When the wall below the AC unit was opened to check for roof leakage from the storm they discovered 9 months worth of rot. OnCall had installed it at a downward angle and water was draining down the wall interior rather than out the back of the unit. Basic AC 101. We highly recommend you go with another company. read more

We just bought a home and needed to install a shower to a half bathroom to make it a full. Needless to say I was very nervous about the word "Jackhammer" in my brand new home. After being scared off by several contractors and plumbers, my husband found Beau through a coworker. I was so put off by the previous contractors that I almost didn't even come to the meeting. Beau was prompt and very nice. I never felt overwhelmed or pressured to do anything. He gave me estimates with variables for everything along the way and was always available to address my questions, even at 10pm on a weekend. He let me purchase my own supplies (because I'm a control freak) and never made me feel weird about my choices. The bathroom was finished in 2 - 3 weeks, which once you realize that things have to set and dry, the timing was excellent. It is an amazing bathroom that is more amazing that the full master bath. I am SO happy we went with this company. Oh and I have to mention Julie. This woman is an angel. She will call to confirm and let you know the ETA. She runs a tight ship. OnCall installed heat control window film in my apartment; OnCall sent a contractor the day after my telephone call to accommodate my schedule and explained the pricing clearly to me on the phone. The film was difficult to install and the job took longer than expected; Beau discussed final pricing with me to ensure I was ok with it. The time it took to complete the work was longer than I expected but the contractor was pleasant to work with. I could not have installed the film myself. I recommend the contractor read the instructions on the box instead of doing what works most of the time to save time and re-do's in the overall project. This is my first time using a contractor; I would use OnCall again, Beau strives to make accommodations for any potential issues that could/did arise. read more

I was very, very disappointed after all the good things I had heard about Angie's List. First, I paid for 2 hours in advance so was very disappointed they did not do half of what I needed. Beware, they do not carry supplies with them and apparently can't tell you the materials they need until they look at the job. Bottom line? Be sure and factor in trips to Home Depot in the hourly rate. I will be going back to my former handyman who does most of what I need and brings materials with him. After our condo was flooded in May 2017, Beau replied so quickly his was the first bid we received. He said he could get a team together to start within two weeks, and they did. His subcontractors were easy to work with, polite and hard workers, pushing to get all the tasks done in quick sequence. It took just two weeks to get everything done: Laying a new floor on the 1st story, replacing the 1st floor ceiling, replacing the floor in a 2nd story bedroom (they worked around the king-sized bed, no problem!), adding baseboards and touching up several areas on the walls in each room. We were happy with the results and the work. We'd certainly use Beau's services again! read more

Very easy to deal with. Bought a "deal" on Angie's list. They sent an email for me to make an appointment to fit our schedule. John showed up right at 8AM and was set to work - no screwing around with tools, parts etc. We needed two cabinets removed from a closet, mounting hanger brackets and bars where the cabinets came out and a TV mount attached to the wall. The cabinets were huge so I helped cart them from the closet to the garage. I also helped hold the TV mount in place as John bolted it to the studs in the wall. He got done so fast that we then asked him to paint the closet where the cabinets were attached to the wall which he was happy to do. I wish I had thought to buy some shelving materials to mount to the hanger brackets he installed for us. Oh well it will only take me 15 minutes to put up the shelving. John was in and out in less than three hours. I was so pleased I did not have to do this task that I will definitely call OnCall Home Services next time I have a group of things to do but next time I will have a longer list - LOL!! read more

I purchased 3 hrs for door repair. David was very courteous & helpful. Arrived on time, Unfortunately my doors are made by Jeld Wen and they are not normal lock systems. So we went on line with Jeld Wen to find out what to do. David helped by talking to the JW customer service person explaining the situation Than he took pictures with my I-phone and sent them to the CS agent. He did this for 3 doors. He was not able to fix the locks because I didn't have the right materials. Not his problem. However, he did help me solve the problem and get the necessary equipment that I need.I certainly call them again with any other problems. read more

I purchased a 2 hr time with OnCall and called to schedule service. The lady I talked to took my information (what service I needed) and said a service man would call me to set the appt. time. I then realized that I would rather have a couple of fans installed instead of having someone put together a bunkbed set. I called OnCall again and talked to the same lady and she was great about me switching services and a service man called the next day and set up an appt. time. In the add it said you had to supply the materials so it gave me time to go to HomeDepot and pick up two fans that were ready when he got here. It took exactly 2 hrs to install the fans, they are remote control and work perfectly. The service man was very nice and efficient and I will use this service again when I need extra help. read more
