Cutco knives are made in the USA to last, and the Cutco company believes so strongly in its product that each knife is "guarantee forever" including free sharpening. What?! Until recently, I did not have Cutco knives but, just as I was contemplating an upgrade of my kitchen knives, my sweet Mom gifted me with the set she'd had for years but no longer used. Did the guarantee convey to a new owner? Were these older knives (circa 1970s) eligible for free sharpening? What about the French Chef knife that had a chink missing from the blade? Could it be fixed? When I called the Cutco Kitchen in Rollingwood (in the shopping center where the Post Office is) the answer to all my questions was, without hesitation or question, "yes." I took the knives in today and the experience couldn't have been better. It's a small shop but has a very wide array of Cutco products: all the knives, kitchen utensils, spices, gardening tools, and other handy household items. Although there was only one sales person present, I was the only customer so I had her attention immediately. The sales person examined each knife and found one that had a broken point, which I had not noticed. They would mail it and the damaged French Chef knife to the company for any repairs or replacement. The other knives were sharpened at the shop. I brought my non-Cutco knives, too, because they only charge $5 per knife for sharpening. This took about 10 minutes or so, more than enough time for me to pop by the USPO and Great Harvest Bread Co. where I got an amazing loaf of bread (but that's another Yelp review). Their process is to call me when the replacement/repaired knifes are ready for pick-up, which should be about 10 days. Yes, the Cutco products are pricey but I believe they are worth it. My Mom used her Cutco knives for about 50 years before passing them on to me and I suspect they will be around long after I no longer need them. In Cutco's case, you definitely get what you pay for.

All the right insights for how to keep us in budget, and very generous with (we can add this/that for little/no extra costs since we're already doing XYZ). We mainly requested a bid on two projects (Kitchen and Primary Bathroom) and help deciding the scope for the remainder of our projects (Flooring, Guest Bath, Office, Patio, Etc.). We were very impressed with how realistic, but also open-minded he was with what portion of our "bonus" projects we could fit in. The formal quote came in fast after our initial meeting, was easy to follow, and fairly priced. Found the proposed timeline to be very well balanced for efficiency vs realism. Appreciated the suggestions provided for if we should/could "live-in" during the remodel vs. a timeline that would allow the bulk of the work to overlap with a time that we were going to be out of town already. Also insights on what it would be worth "buying in advance" to take advantage of sales, even if the actual work was delayed. We got a few quotes and would have felt confident moving forward with any of them when the time came, but the quality of their portfolio and Avi's attentive listening definitely put Teamwork Home Designs at the top of the list. In any event, I hesitated to write a review because Shaked was nice to work with and incredibly responsive, but we are still having issues with the work that was done. The most annoying of which is the constant smell from the kitchen sink island. Our kitchen was gutted and everything installed was brand new. A week or so after install, I noticed a moldy, wet, dank smell coming from the sink, dishwasher and surrounding island cabinets (where a large group of pipes feeds into the foundation). Shaked and the plumber remarked that the disposal probably needed to be cleaned. The disposal and everything associated with the kitchen were brand new - they did not need to be cleaned - but we cleaned them anyways. I let this go because my husband didn't really smell anything and I wanted to be optimistic. Well, it's two years later and now EVERYONE in the house can smell this musty dank smell!! We have troubleshooted the dishwasher, the disposal, the p-traps, etc. and are having another plumber investigate. We will likely have to redo part of the island to discover the cause of the smell and it's incredibly frustrating that we can't host because our kitchen smells gross! There were additional issues. A couple months after we started using our newly remodeled kitchen, we heard a loud bang and noticed that the disposal completely detached from the sink! I contacted Shaked and he said something along the lines of - this is normal. Ummmm, No! I've never in my entire life had a disposal fall out from under a sink. He begrudgingly sent the plumber to reset it. It started to come loose again not long after their plumber reinstalled it. Ultimately, my husband DIY'd the install after watching a Youtube video. It's been fine since my husband installed it. Lets see, there was a leak around the base of a newly installed toilet. The toilet needed to be reinstalled. The floating master bath tub was caulked with the wrong product so it looked gross a month or so after install - and continues to look gross because we can't get the substance off. The heated floor wiring was cut during install of the bathroom floors, despite it having an alarm system to alert to said issue. After a lot of back and forth and troubleshooting (on my end), Shaked's team ultimately agreed to remove most of the flooring to reinstall with new wiring. The flooring on the stairs looks sketch to put it nicely. The wall paneling at the base of the kitchen island is wavy and disjointed - looks like a DIY project. The trim on the French doors leading to the master bedroom keeps falling off. Etc. etc. etc. Things they did well - tiling! The tile work from these folks looks amazing! Communication - Shaked was extremely responsive and did his best to address issues as they arose. They were helpful - a pipe burst during the freeze while the house was being remodeled and Shaked sent his plumber to repair quickly and without charge! They happily made changes and didn't really every charge extra which was refreshing. Despite being smelly, the kitchen LOOKS amazing! Overall, enjoyed working with Shaked and his team but not pleased with some of the results. ETA - For what it's worth, my husband thinks they deserve a 4 star review.

We hired Luxe Kitchen and Bath for several home improvements, but the quality of work was unacceptable and improperly executed: - Flooring: The original glue was not removed, and the slab was not leveled before installation. When an independent flooring inspector evaluated the work, Greg falsely claimed a moisture barrier had been installed. Luxe Kitchen and Bath later stated they let the installer go, yet Don refused to accept the inspection report and demanded an additional $5,000 to fix the issue, claiming my wife's wheelchair caused the damage. - Plumbing & Bathroom: They broke the toilet flanges and overtightened the toilet, cracking the porcelain and causing water to leak beneath the flooring. - Doors & Paint: The storm doors were not installed properly, and the wall painting was poorly executed. Throughout this process, project management and communication were virtually non-existent. Don never visited the site to inspect the work, and Greg only came when specifically requested. We received no progress updates, and Don failed to appear for the independent inspection, sending Greg and Kim instead. It is deeply unacceptable for a contractor to perform sub-standard work, refuse to take responsibility, and attempt to blame the resulting damage on a disability while demanding more money. I was in awe of his attention to detail, the care he showed from the beginning of the process to the very end and the precision with which everything was executed. A+ indeed!!! Here is the whole story for those interested: We are in the process of bringing our whole house into the 21st century and we decided to start with the hardest, but probably most exciting - our kitchen. It took several months for us to come up with the design and pick the cabinets. We knew we would most likely pick IKEA cabinets as they are about the only place in town that offers great modern-looking cabinets. We looked at Lowes, Home Depot and Cabinets to Go, just to check them off the list and decided to go with IKEA in the end, just as we thought we would. Another reason we went with IKEA was because they offer an online kitchen planning tool where you can do your layout and see how everything fits and IKEA will even verify your plan and create a shopping list for you so you order everything that's needed. We also liked IKEA's price transparency - you make your plan, you pick your cabinets and the program calculates the total price of your kitchen for you. We even thought we would get the countertop there and have everything installed by IKEA, to make the process super easy and simple. So once we designed the kitchen, picked our cabinets and were ready to move forward with installation, it turned out not everything was that simple. IKEA told us that we would not be able to get what we wanted because they hardly do any customizations - they don't cut cabinets, they don't cut doors, they wouldn't put a panel we wanted on one of the kitchen walls and they wouldn't even adjust an insert for a 12" cabinet to have one shelf instead of two! And every time we talked to an IKEA rep they told us a different thing! We were getting frustrated and after several weeks of trying to make adjustments and make compromises, we decided that we need to go with plan B - find someone else to install our kitchen. While starting looking for someone else, I remembered that one of my friends, who had her kitchen done recently, highly recommended Aplus. I found the phone number and called. I left a message and Alex promptly returned my call. He came over that same week to look at the space and I immediately had a good feeling about him. I emailed him the kitchen plan and he provided a quote a few days later. The quote was comparable to IKEA price-wise, but we were getting everything we wanted and more, so I told Alex that we, of course, are going to pick APlus! Installation was very smooth and I felt like it was more of a collaboration than a hired contractor doing an installation. I told Alex that there were some things I was not sure about and wanted to see how each version would look before deciding on the final one and Alex was more than happy to accommodate and he provided lots of invaluable advice, too. He also provided extra services per our request. We wanted to install laminate on all three walls in the kitchen to serve as backsplash and when I told him that I had trouble finding someone to do it, he agreed to install it and it looks perfect! He also installed the exhaust hood - and it's perfect, of course. I tell you - we would hire Alex to do EVERYTHING he would agree to do with the rest of the remodel - that's how much we trust him and appreciate the quality of his work. I know I am going to sound very sentimental when I say this, but I truly feel that he is a rare gem that we were lucky to find. The love and care he puts into his work is absolutely priceless!

I met with Abbie and she was soo unbelievably kind, helpful and patient with me. She spent so much time reviewing options and pointed out that there were natural stones that were at a similar price point. (At the end of our meeting, she said "I know you're going to get a natural stone!") She gave me some stone yards to go look and she was right - I fell in love with a stone and it is my favorite part of my entire remodel. I can seriously look at it for hours. Once I picked the stone, Amanda scheduled an appointment to determine the layout of the slabs. She knocked it out of the park! I can't believe how beautifully they fit together. She also said I had quite a bit of stone left and suggested that I use it on another vanity. So glad she did because I love my stone and it made the prefab vanity look way better! When the cabinets were in, Chad came to do the measurements to begin fabrication. They stick to their schedules and I appreciate it so much! The stickers that might have had the info we're all sunbleached and unreadable. I finally gave up and ordered something that doesn't match. Not how I imagined this would work when I hired an expensive designer. Also, we just discovered Komal's contractors who installed our sink/kitchen faucet didn't cut out sufficient space for the faucet collet. So now the whole thing has come loose and is falling over, I paid Stand Brothers to find out that they can't fix it until I hire someone to cut into the drywall and open up the correct space. Frustrating. I didn't think I was paying for cheap work but here we are.

We stumbled onto Barton Springs Nursery almost by accident after seeing their showroom on Lamar and…read morerealizing there was an actual nursery a little farther west. Somehow I had never heard of it, despite it having been around for decades. I was not prepared. This is less a traditional nursery and more a beautifully designed place that happens to sell plants. The property is shaded by huge mature oaks, with gravel paths winding through incredibly healthy plants, weathered wood structures, limestone, pottery, little seating areas, a greenhouse, ponds, and thoughtfully placed pockets where you can just sit. Everything feels considered without feeling precious. I kept trying to describe the aesthetic and eventually realized the most accurate reference point is the Animal Crossing island I always intended to create but absolutely never did. It is genuinely one of the most beautiful retail environments I've experienced in Austin. We were only stopping in between errands with our five-year-old and 11-month-old, so we barely scratched the surface and didn't actually purchase anything. Even so, several staff members took time with us. Everyone we encountered was warm, knowledgeable, and seemed genuinely happy to talk about plants and the property. The Genus Bar is particularly cool. It isn't just clever branding. You can bring actual plant problems to their horticultural experts for help, and they have equipment on hand to dig into what may be happening with a plant. One gentleman walked us through the space, explained some of what they do there, gave us some history of the nursery, and was completely open to whatever plant questions I wanted to throw at him. There are also a surprising number of things for kids to discover. Turtles, enormous tortoises, an axolotl, ponds and other little bits of wildlife are worked into the property. Our five-year-old loved feeding and watching the turtles and tortoises. One of the staff members caring for the tortoises also made sure we knew not to touch them because of the salmonella risk. How did I make it this far into adulthood without knowing that? Another unexpected detail was the nitro yaupon tea. I initially thought I was being offered cold brew coffee, which was challenged the moment I smelled it. Yaupon is a native holly whose leaves have a long history of being brewed as a caffeinated tea, and the person serving it gave us the whole background while preparing it. It was light, fragrant and really pleasant. Just another small thing that made the visit feel less transactional. The major caveat is price. This is NOT where I would necessarily come for a budget-conscious haul of plants I could easily find elsewhere. The nursery is in Westlake, the products are highly curated, and the pricing reflects the environment and clientele. That said, the plants we saw looked exceptionally healthy, the garden and home goods felt carefully selected, and there appeared to be some more unusual plant options mixed into the broader selection. You're paying for a noticeably different experience. And honestly, the experience is the reason give it five stars. We came in intending to look around for a few minutes and left wishing we'd had considerably more time. I tend to linger in nurseries anyway, but Barton Springs Nursery seems almost specifically engineered to encourage that behavior. Next time we'll come when we're not wedging botanical exploration between chores. Even if it isn't where you buy every plant for your yard, it's worth visiting at least once. We'll absolutely be back.
