This company does really nice work -- I'm very pleased with the results. The craftsmanship is great -- the flooring was smooth, neat, and precise. They also worked fast and left everything very clean. For reference, they ripped up old carpet and placed new hardwood in 2 bedrooms and 1 master closet. It took a little time to get the closest match but Bob was nice enough to come out twice to drop off two different floor samples. However, I was craving a bit more communication on their end. Bob is very responsive to messages which I appreciate but this was a job at an unoccupied home (belonging to my parents) with a hidden key so I did want more updates (especially with my folks constantly asking me). I did not receive notification of job start or finish. I had to reach out to get that. I didn't find out that the job was completed until the following day. I received an immediate reply to my messages which is nice but like I said, I'd have preferred more proactive communication. Not a big deal but worth mentioning. These guys were just great. I got several estimates from other flooring folks in the area, but I didn't like what I heard about how they were going to do the job - they just didn't seem to know what they were doing. In addition, the others offered an estimate with a lot of vague non-defined costs that would be added to the estimate. Bob was completely helpful and professional. He spent some time finding a color match for our other hardwood floors (which none of the others seemed to be competent to do). When he gave me the estimate, it was "this is a contract. No extra added charges." Cost was actually less than the other estimates. Timing was convenient and his crew showed up when they said they would. His crew was thoroughly professional, worked their butts off for three days, and did a great job of matching baseboard caulk like the rest of the house. My parents are getting old and live on Long Island, so I'd been suggesting that they try becoming snowbirds and move down to Austin in the winter. They kept saying no until last year when they were hit by six snow storms in a row and stuck in their house for weeks. After that they changed their minds, so last summer I found a house for them a couple of blocks from us. It was well maintained and had been updated, but unfortunately still had carpet in the bedrooms. Neither my parents or I like carpet, so of course it had to be replaced. I'd always loved the floors Bob and Andrea put in at my old house, before I got married and moved, but my wife is an architect (i.e. building snob) and she wanted bamboo and tile in our new house so that's what we got, so it was nice to be able to put the same Armstrong Santos Mahogany I had at my old house in my parents' new house. I'd been really impressed by the job HFS did at my old house, so I immediately called them up and had them do the job. Sadly, the price of the flooring (not the installation) had gone up a lot, but it ended up looking as beautiful as I remember when they finished installing last summer. My parents loved it when they finally came down last December. Even my mom, who is pretty critical of everything and not one to hand out compliments, mentioned how much she liked the floors. Once again, a professionally-done job by Bob & Andrea & crew. I should have done this review right after they finished the job, but I don't Yelp much these days and forgot. However, guess what? My parents love Austin! They love it so much they bought another house here, this one right behind us, and are going to move there next winter... because the house two blocks away (literally) was too far? And this house also has carpet that needs to be replaced! I like having my parents close by, (and so does our dog, who now gets treats when we stop by their house on our daily walks), but I'm not sure about having them right in my backyard, we'll see about that part. But anyway, we'll need more flooring replaced, so I was thinking of Bob and Andrea once again, and will call them this summer to do yet more floors after we're done tearing up ceilings and walls on the new house, and so I thought I'd update this review. read more

All of the people I dealt with from choosing the floors with Anna's help, talking with Bob about the process and things we should do to prepare, and having Juan and Jordy install the floors, was top notch. I have absolutely no complaints. I am a bit of a nervous person when it comes to getting work done on my home because I've had some really bad experiences, so when I saw all of the 5 star reviews I decided to check them out and I am so glad I did. Anna, Bob, Juan and Jordy made me feel relaxed and confident about the whole process. Let's begin with Anna, who is the person you will most likely talk to first. She is friendly, effervescent, and knowledgeable. I made the trip to their showroom, which I highly suggest if you are picking out a wood floor and don't know much about it. It is a very intimidating process and I am someone who is used to being quite decisive when choosing something for my home. There are so many choices so it is hard to narrow it all down. She allowed me to take home samples to view in my home and made suggestions on the best ways to view it to get a good idea of how the floor will look in your home. She has an amazing eye. They have wood at many price points and Anna doesn't make you feel bad for looking at cheaper options. In fact, she showed me some gorgeous options in the lower price range. She helped me get started by asking some simple questions and I immediately felt at ease with how to narrow the choices down. I made a few trips to drop off samples and pick up others with Anna helping me along the way. Each time I left with my samples, I felt I had made a friend and looked forward to going back. I made my choice more quickly than I thought I would and she made me feel very good about it. When it's right, you know it. I spoke with Bob on the phone and a few times at the store and he is friendly and kind and he gives you the feeling that he is going to make sure you are happy. He is knowledgeable about wood floors and answered all of my many questions quickly both on the phone and through email. Instead of dreading the process, I was actually looking forward to it because Bob made me feel that things would be taken care of. He has a very calming presence. We scheduled the installation a few weeks out to give us time to pack up our house. We packed up all of our belongings (we have TOO MUCH stuff!) and there were a few pieces of furniture (couch, dining table, two desks, and a bed/frame) that we left in the house as Bob explained that they could move them as they worked. I was a little worried about this but it worked out great. Juan and Jordy carefully moved the furniture as they put the floors in. When it was time for the installation, Juan and Jordy showed up right on time, looking clean and neat and got straight to work after getting the layout of the house. They wrapped everything in plastic and covered walls (lots of paintings on the walls) with plastic to keep off all of the dust. They also hung plastic in the kitchen covering the countertops and cabinets. It took one week to install the wood floors and put baseboards in our 1, 000 square foot home. We had to stay there while they worked as we had nowhere else to go. My husband works from home so he really needed a quiet environment to work and Juan and Jordy were quiet and polite and hardworking. Each night, they packed up their stuff in one area of the house and did light cleaning to keep the house as livable and clean as possible during the week while they installed the floors. If anyone has had any work done on their home they know how dusty it can get with the smallest job, and this is no small job, these guys really kept it clean! They kept us informed each day as to what they would be working on the next day so we could prepare ourselves, if needed. Everything was right on time and just as they said it would be. Juan is really good at anticipating potential issues, and we could see how he was planning ahead. He is a very thoughtful artisan. After they finished, the house looked AMAZING! All of the work was impeccable. I am an artist and a slight perfectionist (I'm working on that!) and I have never been so pleased with the work that i have had done on my house as I was with Juan and Jordy. I think it was cleaner than it was before they began! I really felt a little sad that they were leaving but so happy with my new floors. Hardwood Flooring Services are the BEST. We had a specific look in mind - narrow, strip, oak flooring and wanted to find a responsible, reputable supplier. The search led me to Mirage flooring out of Canada for the materials, and their website listed Hardwood Flooring Services as an Austin retailer. A Yelp search of Hardwood Flooring Services returned a business with a consistent 5 star rating, and the reviews were all glowing. We made a trip over in May 2016 and spoke with Andrea about what we wanted, and made an appointment with Bob to measure. Long story short, it took a year to pull the trigger for a number of reasons. When we reached back out to Bob he picked up the project like it had only been a day since he had heard from us. We did our entire 2 story house including closets and staircase, excluding bathrooms which meant a three week install. Week one for downstairs. Week two to move every from upstairs downstairs and week three to install stairs and second floor. Our project included tearing up the original bamboo flooring on the first floor which was glued to the slab. The crew that worked on our project were AMAZING! Vincente, Hermondo and Juan are FLOORING NINJAS! Tearing up glued flooring is dirty, tedious work. The Ninjas came in, had full enclosures up in minutes to keep down the dust and got to work. Five days later the downstairs is finished and perfect. No short cuts, no crappy cuts. It's all precise and perfect. Week three comes around and the Ninjas are back! Again, plastic enclosures to keep dust down are put up and it's off to the races. We had some custom inlays and borders done as well as replacing the stair treads and risers with solid oak pieces. The craftsmanship of this team isn't seen very often these days. The final results are STUNNING!!! And when the work was done each week, the house and floors were pristine! The Ninjas didn't just do a broom clean up, they went over the flooring, etc., on their hands and knees! And they made sure they told us how to care for the floors, etc. They were professionals, courteous and rightfully proud of their workmanship. I could go on and on about this company. This is a family-owned business with over 25 years experience in selling and installing wood flooring. I visited Hardwood Flooring Services this weekend for the first time to ask their opinion about engineered versus solid bamboo flooring, and floating versus nailing or gluing. Andrea Trevino, the owner's daughter, was remarkably helpful. She took time to show me several samples and to explain the mechanics of laying a floor and how the strand bamboo is manufactured. She talked to me about brands, history, what to watch out for, and pointed out some common misconceptions about bamboo, even though I told her I was already in the process of ordering from a company online. I wanted Hardwood Flooring Services to install my floor after speaking with Andrea, but they are so busy installing the flooring they sell that they don't offer install-only. Andrea did provide me with a couple of referrals for installers when I called back a couple of days later, and I'll be buying my underlayment from her, but I also wanted to make note here about how impressed I am with this Austin company. It was a fluke I happened to find a great price on the bamboo floor I wanted, and it happened to be one Hardwood Flooring Services doesn't carry, but they do have a lot of stock and you'll never find nicer or more honest people. I have been remiss in giving a shout-out to hardwood flooring. They did a superb job installing our original flooring in 2011. We recently had a water problem in the bathroom that compromised the flooring at the threshold of the bathroom. I called Bob (the owner) of Hardwood Flooring to have the flooring replaced at the threshold. There was no runaround by the owner, he said the original installer would be there the next week. The installer arrived when he said he would and replaced the wood with a piece leftover from the original job for a nominal price. There are many things to be said about this company. The labor costs are comparable no matter where you go and the big *price* difference is in the wood sample that rings your bell based on what each has to offer. So, given that there's a sample you'll love no matter where you go, the costs are the same or they can scale the same on different wood choice, but the *QUALITY* of the work done and the *QUALITY* of the customer service - start to finish and the follow through of Hardwood Flooring Services is just above and beyond. One of the owners spent an hour with me showing me tons of different samples and helping me figure out what I liked. She gave me a few samples to take home. The service date ended up interfering with my painters' schedule, and Bob accommodated my schedule needs quickly. I was struggling to organize the different contractors I had working on the house, and he was very understanding. The floors looked BEAUTIFUL when they were finished. The team was so quick! 1000 square feet in 2 days. The follow up really sealed the deal. A month after installation, I called with some questions about which floor cleaner to use. Bob answered my questions, then said he had an extra floor cleaner and offered to give it to me (this is $50 cleaner we're talking). He personally DELIVERED the cleaner to my house that afternoon. I just moved into a condo with vinyl floors upstairs and on the staircase. The original company did a poor quality job and I needed to change up the floors. My mother happened to have half of the square feet of wood I needed for my condo with a really nice brand of wood called Mirage. I thought I could save half of the money and called a few wood places, but they were unable to order the same wood. Bob came out the same day I called him and arrived on time. I was late and he already measured and had everything organized before I arrived. I went to the showroom just in case I wanted other options that were cheaper and Ana in the showroom was wonderful to work with as well. In the 1990's I was co-owner of a hardwood floor company in another state so I'd like to think I know quality and good business practice when I see it. I had my floors done in October/November and I probably should've posted this already (sorry Bob). I couldn't be happier with Hardwood Flooring Services. Bob and Andrea, and the men that came to my house, were completely professional from start to finish. The estimate I was provided with and the final figure were exactly the same. After going to Flohr (imagine sticking your finger down your throat) I was SO glad to find Bob and Andrea at Hardwood Flooring Services. Flohr wanted me to pay 100% for the flooring before receiving anything ...and then telling me I had to settle for some chaotic pattern wood that would fit in my (I know, reasonable) budget. Then, to take a sample home, I had to give them a $50 deposit on each. That'll be another review (0 stars, if possible). Hardwood Flooring Services was a complete opposite. When I got to the Hardwood Flooring showroom, Bob was attentive and helpful. Once I found what I thought I wanted, Bob suggested I take it home to see what it looked like in my lighting, etc. Charge? Nope. "Take as many as you'd like, you need to be comfortable with your choice." Those may not be his exact words but it's close. I offered to bring back the samples and he said, "No that's fine, I'm in the coming out there in a few days to measure and give to an accurate estimate and I can pick them up then." That was so different from my last experience. That really meant something. While he was in my house doing the estimate, I signed the contract for the work. We made an appointment day/time and the men who were doing the floor work showed up right on time with Bob. As with any time that you buy flooring, the boards you get from the manufacturer are never all perfect so you have to account for waste and sort thru. One imperfect board got set (not unusual) and the glue already hardened before I saw it. They were a few rows over when I pointed it out to one of the men. He immediately, pleasantly said, "Absolutely no problem." Within minutes he had cut that board out and replaced it with one I preferred (he let me pick from the box) - and there is no way you can tell it was replaced. Another thing that happened: After they were gone, I Swiffer dusted the floor and pulled up a large splinter and because the boards are so dark, it really showed. I called and spoke to Andrea and she assured me that they'd take care of it. She called me back and made an appointment to replace it. I mentioned to her that the only boards I had leftover had many imperfections and so I was concerned about what board they'd replace it with. They ordered me a brand-new box that they left with me so I would have extra boards in case I did any damage in the future. This was all at no charge. That's true customer service. (And this replacement - I can't tell which board it was...the men are that good!) In addition to laying the floor, they paint the quarter round once it's down. This guy has the most steady hand I've ever seen. Perfect. I know there will be more floor work I'll want done and I'll be sure to call Hardwood Flooring Services. The hubs and I have been on the hunt for a company to re-beautifying our engineered hardwood floors to get our house ready for sale. I talked with Ruben at H&R Flooring a few days ago who said that a light sanding and restaining, plus a new gloss would make them look better, though not totally restored. Good enough for me...I'm not looking for them to be brand-new, just better than they are now. Alas, Ruben is booked for the next few weeks, so I called HFS to ask them if this is something they could do. When I asked the very elitist lady on the phone if they do any engineered floor restoration, she first LAUGHED at me and then told me there's no such thing. When I explained Ruben's proposal, she laughed again and told me that engineered hardwood floors can't be sanded. At all. As in never (see footnotes for links that prove this snotty woman wrong). Then she proceeded to go on a very long rant about how I'm wasting other contractor's time by even suggesting they come out for such a process and that she's the only one who can tell me about hardwood floors because that's all they sell. And then I realized that she was trying to sell me new floors instead of doing anything to help restore the old ones. But since I couldn't get a word in edgewise over her ridiculous rant, I hung up. I wasn't in the market for new floors and didn't like the high pressure, bitchy sales pitch. I've since found another contractor who agreed that I can make the existing floors look significantly better with a light sand, stain, and seal. Between selling one house and buying another, I feel like I could write a book on Austin service providers. Thankfully I've had nothing but great experiences with all of them, mostly due to Yelp. So HFS is definitely a gem. It's a family owned and operated business and I love that none of the work is contracted out. Andrea runs the front office and she's such a sweetheart that if I ever see her around town, I'm buying that girl dinner. She indulged my crazy OCD tendencies when I debated the pros and cons of every single piece of wood in the store, and I always felt that she took the time to answer each and every question with an arsenal of information, despite the fact that HFS is very busy. Andrea really knows her stuff, plus she's super friendly. Her father Bob owns the business and he came out to measure our house and give us a bid. I'm not sure what that one star reviewer was smoking, but Bob's measurements actually came out to less sq footage than what I had estimated. I felt like he was a super straight up guy and I cannot in a million years imagine him trying to pull one over on someone. Andrea's husband led the install crew and everything looks tight. When I walked the job I pointed out one board that I didn't like (did I mention that I'm a bit OCD?) and they pulled it out and replaced it without batting an eyelash. I'm very happy with the results. HFS installed about 1200 sq ft of natural white oak wide plank flooring plus the stairs and it has totally transformed my home from nasty suburban nightmare to swank European oasis. Is there a way I can give this business 10 stars? Honestly. After spending weeks on the hunt for new floors for our new home (having hit the big chains and some of the local places that were a bit shady), hubs found this little gem online. Since we were moving right around the corner, we decided to stop in and look. Bob and Andrea were nothing short of fabulous when we talked to them. They are more knowledgeable about their product than anyone else we spoke with, and actually talked us out of a more expensive product because it wasn't going to take the beating our family was going to put on it. In the end, we went with an engineered option for price, durability and appearance. Their install team of guys is honest and hard working. They are super friendly and very respectable of your space. The quote they gave us was the quote at the end. No hidden surprises, no nonsense. Sure, you can keep looking and go with a chain and save 20 to 50 cents a square foot, but let me tell you, I'm sure you get what you pay for. These two are great and I know when we move again, we will be giving them a call to upgrade our floors. read more

Hardwood flooring services is amazing! My boyfriend and I shopped around A LOT for new engineered hardwood floors for his new house. Andrea at HFS was the only person who gave her opinion when it came to picking out floors. I was completely impressed with the fact that she was actually listening to what we wanted (color, price, durability, etc) and suggested the product she thought was the best, rather than try to sell us one we couldn't afford, or give us a zillion choices that we couldn't narrow down ourselves. She was completely on top of everything, with a prompt quote, complete transparency on all the details. They also have the complete line of Anderson and Shaw (made by Anderson) which are some of the hardest engineered woods for the price. The crews are headed by Andrea's father and husband and one of them is directly involved with the installation in your place. They took about three days to rip out our carpet (included in the price) and our glued on "hard"wood (read: soft-as-butter-wood) that was already downstairs and do the entire installation. They were backordered on some of the stairnose for the floor we picked out. However, rather than move the whole installation back (we had already scheduled movers) they just scheduled a time to do the stairs later. In the end, they didn't even need it since the stair nose pieces they did have cut just right. I would recommend them to anyone who thinks picking out hardwood floors is a daunting task (which is just about everyone). read more

We've worked with them on two projects now. They exemplify what it means to under promise, but truly over deliver! They are family run business -- very dependable, helpful and just a joy to work with. Andrea is very knowledgeable and helpful, and I'd probably consider her an expert in the field. When you have a 25-year-old house with two labradors and a kid, you definitely have no country for old carpets. Our living/dining room, in particular, was in terrible shape. No better way to clean it up and change the look of the room than by having hardwoods installed. Bob and Andrea at Hardwood Flooring Services were great from day one. I went into the storefront with an idea of what I might want - truth is I was pretty clueless. Bob gave me a couple samples from a huge selection to take home to try out. They were a little too rustic for my wife's tastes, so I called Andrea to ask if I could see a couple more samples; something a little less barn-ish. Bob brought the samples with him when he came out to measure the room. They were perfect. The work took two days, one to remove the old carpet and prepare the concrete slab for the wood and the second day to install the flooring and new baseboards (you purchase your own baseboards at the hardware store and Bob's guys paint and install them for you). I couldn't be happier with the finished product. The room looks completely different - and exactly how I was hoping it would look. Bob and his crew did a great job on the install and Andrea was more than helpful in the office. Their prices are competitive, but even if they were a little high (which they're not) I'd still go with Bob and Andrea. Overall this was a great experience and I'll be happy to have Hardwood Flooring Services back in my house when I'm ready to have more flooring installed. read more

We had a great experience with HFS, we would absolutely hire them again if need be and will recommend them to our friends. Andrea worked hard to figure out which product was best for our family and within our budget, Bob was really fast (and nice! and extremely knowledgeable!) about measuring our house and scheduling us ASAP. The wood order came in super fast and the install from start to finish was speedy and immaculate. My only gripe is that 3 of our door jams got badly dinged and paint is knicked of a few walls from when they moved our furniture and the crew broke our toilet seat and didn't mention it to us. Since it's not about the floors, it hardly matters in the review, but you might want to move your own furniture if you care about finding the time to fix stuff like that. All in all, A+ and very satisfied! read more
