I know that most Greek diners can be lumped into the category of, a place to go when you want something quick, and no frills. But after frequenting many different diners, you eventually recognize that in certain respects, one may stand out from the others.  And so, at times, Olympic Diner can be said to offer something different from the norm.      One example can be found in the obligatory Greek salad. Of course, the salad offers fresh lettuce, vegetables and feta. But where it really does excel, is the dressing. And although I can't determine exactly what's in it, I can say, that it is the best damn dressing I have ever tasted. it's so good, in fact, that Olympic bottles it and sells it at the checkout counter. Being on the subject of salads, lets talk about the Doc Salad. It's a huge bowl of fresh lettuce,  perfectly grilled and marinated chicken pieces, and the aforementioned dressing. So if you're dieting,  just put on a dab of the dressing, and don't eat the whole thing. But if your really hungry,  have some of the bread basket with it, and it will surely fill you.      If you happen to be in the mood for some fresh fish, Olympic doesn't disappoint. Try the fresh Salmon Fillet,  the broiled or fried Seafood Combo, or the Stuffed Founder Athenian Style.  Besides being very fresh, the fish is always cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and the portion size is big enough - even for a hungry dude like me. What's more, the Athenian Style Flounder is stuffed with a delicious blend of spinach, feta cheese, and spices, with just a touch of melted butter. Try to top that.     Looking for just a good, quick sandwich? Try the triple decker turkey club. It's made with fresh roasted turkey, not cold cuts. And it's topped with lettuce, tomato, and crispy bacon. Their delicious steak fries and creamy cole slaw round out the plate.  Some people - like my wife - get a big bang out of ordering a delicious breakfast at a diner, regardless of the time of day. And so, when we are at the Olympic, she can never resist one of their outstanding omlets, along with some buttered toast, and their really good home fries. Even more important, she never really finishes it all, so I get to pick at it after I finish my meal. Sometimes I'm a garbage pail.     So if you are in the area, and want to try the best Greek salad you will ever have (really), give the Olympic a shot. It's a winner. read more

VERY UPSET CUSTOMER I have been going to this restaurant for the last 9 years. Never had a problem until this Sunday. I order the same breakfast every time I go there. I had this young lady take my order and I told her what I wanted. When I was served the young lady made a mistake on my order. I proceeded to let her know my order was not what I ask for the young lady became very argumentative and said they do not serve what I ask for, I then explained to her it is on the menu and I always order the same thing. She then told me her father is the owner and we do not serve it that way. I then ask for the manager and explain the situation to him he understood what I ordered and said it was a misunderstanding and that he was sorry for his daughter mention the fact that she was the owner's daughter, his name is Peter. As I started to eat my meal that was not order correctly the young lady came over and said she wanted to apologize and proceeded to argue with me again I was so upset and never have been so disrespected and I told her she should not speak to customer in that manner and she yell and said do not tell me what I should say. The young lady is rude disrespectful and nasty you do not apologize and then start to argue with a customer. My husband's and I were so embarrassed by this waitresses attitude that we got up and paid for our food that we did not eat as I was walking out I ask the hostess for the young ladies name and she started yelling at me and told me that was her sister. I have never been so mistreated and did not want to make a scene. I just walked away and called back and spoke to Peter again. He did not once apologize for his daughter unprofessional behavior. You do not go to eat and be mistreated by the owners rude and nasty daughters and treat customers disrespectfully because your father is the owner. I will not be returning to this diner again and by the way the owner spoke to me and he does not care about his business. read more

I called to place an order in advance, because I was having a class and was not going to have enough time to call and wait, because I had to rush and go to work. The person who answered the phone was very rude. I was nicely asking for veggie omelet and I was telling her to put peppers and she was just "what do you want veggies or peppers" in such a rough tone. I don't know how you serve it. Every place is different. Then I told her that I was able to pick it up at 9:15 and she didn't even let me finish talk and she was "oh no no, you have to call five minutes before because by the time you come in I won't remember your name anyway." I did not know that the pick up system was all about remembering names. Just put it in a piece of paper. So you know what? I DID NOT GIVE THEM the business. was having dinner with my friends and our waitress came along and didn't ask for our drinks. it was crowded and i understand that but when we asked for something she would snap at us and she said very meanly "i hear you i see you ok? give me a second" and then it took her very long to get our food and never came to check up on us. The Diner is large enough so that there is very rarely a wait, yet still small enough to maintain that old time diner feel. Any time of day or night, I've never had a problem with the staff, generally quick and reliable.I don't think ive ever gotten anything that was overcooked and there's never been a mix up with my order for as long as i can remember. Most things on the menu are excellent from the omlettes which are always light and fluffy, to the burgers which are always nice and juicy, topped with anything you want and nothing you don't. The side dishes and salads are great, from their onion rings and fries to the greek salad, always given in generous portions. You'll most certainly never leave hungry read more

This place used to be great back in the day, not anymore. The quality has gone downhill while the prices have gone up. They charged me $4.99 for a small order of Kraft mac n cheese, it even said Kraft on the receipt! And it seems like nothing is made to order. My husband and I have been going to the Olympic diner for over 25 years and have generally been pleased with food and service. However, over the past year the prices have gone up and the portions have gotten smaller. But we value local businesses and have remained loyal customers, coming in 2-3 times a month. However we had an experience there this evening that made us question if management values that loyalty. My husband ordered their cheeseburger deluxe, which comes with fries and TWO onion rings. When his food arrived there was one small onion ring on the plate. It's silly, but he mentioned it to the waiter who said he'd check on it. He came back and informed him that they only give one onion ring now. (My husband is a very kind man who goes out of his way to be nice to servers.) He very nicely expressed that the menu states that the cheeseburger deluxe comes with TWO onion rings AND asked the server to mention the discrepancy to the manager. But we were told the manager was too busy. So when we checked out, we mentioned the discrepancy to someone else in management and we got an apathetic "oh I'm sorry." Again, it's only an onion ring. But we've been spending our hard earned money at this diner for years and they dismissed us to save a few cents and misrepresented their product on the menu. It is too bad. Having been a customer of this diner for a majority of my life, I am saddened to say I will never return another day. All over a cup of hot water (which was to be used for silverware); apparently they now charge $0.5 for a cup of hot water. The waitress seemed to be confused about this new rule, having dined here in the past I did not know it to be a thing, so she was asked to check. Unfortunately, the waitress continued on and did not return with any information. The food was delivered and still no hot water; when asked she replied that she couldn't find the manager and that she would just add it to the bill and he [referring to the absent manager] could take it off if he wanted to. Additionally, my grandmother and nieces pancakes were burnt had to be sent back. Unsatisfied with her response and now the fact that should she bring out the hot water anytime soon the food would be called with the exception of the items that were being prepared, I went to the counter to ask for the manager. Surprisingly, the missing manager came right out. He could and should have simply explained that this is the new policy, instead he went into a rude and disrespectful rant about how he doesn't know why "you people" need to put the silverware in hot water and so on. Moreover, he continued this inappropriate commentary for all of 3 minutes until I attempted to explain how food can easily become wedge in between the forks. Unable to get a word in because the manager was now telling me this was the rule and if I didn't like it I could go somewhere else, how I didn't have to eat there and that I should just leave. Thank you sir for the sound advice, I walked away and gathered my family and we left all $50 worth of food sitting right at that table. I hope it was worth the $.05 and the tears it caused my 5 year old niece who just wanted to eat. We went to another diner a few miles away where we had the most pleasant experience, and delicious meal! read more

Best diner on LI. Come here at least a couple times a week and am always satisfied. Aside from the food being awesome, the service is always great too. They still give you that old school diner feel everytime you walk through the door - probably because it is still owned and run by a really sweet family. I've been going to Olympic diner for years, never an issue until Mother's Day this year. My husband and I took my mother n law for breakfast it was packed, everything was a rush from seating to serving to the bill. Our food came out so fast we couldn't believe it. I ordered turkey, Swiss, spinach egg white omelette. I was enjoying it till a hair was raveled around the spinach and Swiss. I was so disappointed I decided to not complain and just eat my toast which was burnt and tasted it. My husband was so upset that I didn't eat he wanted to get me something else, but the check was already waiting so we left. First bad experience :( read more

I meet my friend for breakfast before work. We are big coffee drinkers and pancake lovers. We decided to try this spot after we decided that peter pan diners coffee is terrible and service is ehhh. We were very happy with the atmosphere, food and service. It felt a lil more comfortable to sit and dine and chat. Needed to book brunch for 25 people after Friday night wedding. No problem at all . Verified two weeks before and called morning of. They were setup for our crowd with welcoming host and staff. This is absolutely the best diner I have ever been to!! I love all of the food here, but the buffalo chicken panini keeps me coming back for more!! The service here is always super reliable and friendly. The food comes out super quickly and is very high quality!! Not to mention, the prices for the amount of food they give you I very reasonable. DO NOT EAT AT OLYMPIC DINER! The food is disgusting. I have eaten here a few times, and every time the meal was a let down. The food is old and unsanitary. The staff is not helpful and leaves you waiting only to bring you cold and old food. The salads are old and brown. The water tastes contaminated. I felt like I could be sick after eating my meal. They need to step up there game like in the other diners nearby. The owners should wake up and stop taking the cheap way out with their customers, it will come back to haunt them. I have been living in Deer Park NY for 16 years I go to the olympic Diner often, my husband always orders a dinner which comes with a salad and always asks for croutons, today May 1, 2016 he asked for his croutons and was told they have to charge him, I dont care if it was only 50 cents are you kidding me charging for croutons. I will never ever come to the diner again. I will go out of my way and go to the infinity diner. We are treated niclely the owner always says hello and its a pleasant place to go. I had to write this review not only based on last night but the last few visits to this location. Is it close- yes. Is it convenient-yes. Is it good-meh. Last night I phoned in an order for 3 gyros and told them specifically what I wanted on each one and told them I would pick up. I did not need fries with each order but was told in a curt way- fries or no fries is the same price. Also when I asked about replacing fries with something else, the answer in the same sharp tone was baked or mashed or veggies. When asked what type of vegetables - she said well-what do you want. I had 2 order of regular fries and one with sweet potato fries. I arrived and when I went to pay- it was $45. WOW-not only did i feel that it was overpriced but when I mentioned to them that you must have raised your prices, they responded well the gyros are good and well worth it. I then responded with- you must have added gold flakes because no gyro and fries are worth $15. It had been a very long day and thought this was simple, close and should be tasty enough. I WAS WRONG. Once home, the 3 of us opened the food and of course, 2 of them were incorrectly made. Too tired to go back and return and thought calling would prove nothing due to the fact once or twice before they have messed up order and when brought backl, it was basically a quick repackaging. They are lucky I did not have a food allergy and eaten something that would not have triggered an attack. $45 for 3 gyros and 2 of them prepared improperly made me write this review because this is now the last straw. The final straw was that when trying to remove the onions that basically ruined one gyro and the mix up with the other one, we discovered something interesting. The LACK OF GYRO MEAT in the sandwich. There were only 2 slices of meat on the lamb gyro. 2 of them had only 2 slices of meat and the chicken one and 2 1/2 but tons and tons of lettuce. These phony, cheap people also used whole wheat pita bread instead of real pita bread. HORRIBLE AND CHEAP. This diner has been sliding downhill each year and whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, the quality has weakened yearly. Pancakes or inedible, the coffee id watered down, they have many chicken sandwiches that are no longer quality or tasty-they skimp there also. We live close but but if we want to have a nice breakfast out, we will travel to the Premier Diner on Commack Rd or the Peter Pan Diner on Bayshore Rd. The prices in the places have risen and the food quality has dropped. The food see-saw for this place is very obvious. Breakfast over the years have come out cold or not cooked enough, again the coffee is watered down so I never drink it there and lunch basics such as a club sandwich is $13 or $14----RIPOFF. We only go to this location if we HAVE to -aka exhaustion or quick fix. The staff is pleasant but overly friendly but my main complaint is the quality of the food first and the prices a quick second reason. I dont think I shall return for a very, very long time ====if ever and it is worth the extra time and gas to find a better diner or food establishment for better quality and perhaps lower prices. I hope for the future and smart business man takes over and improves this diner. The location is great and although usually crowded, I have noticed that is not drawing as many in the past and many have told me they do not go as much or they go else where. Just left Olympic Diner in Deer Park on Saturday evening 6pm. Although busy we were surprised to be seated quickly. This is as polite as I can be. I don't know how the other reviewers gave such high ratings. The server took our order which was an order of golden pancakes and the other order was golden pancakes with sausage and 2 coffees. We should have left when the server asked if we wanted 2 or 3 pancakes. We said the menu doesn't specify 2 or 3. He left and came back and said the menu includes 2 pancakes. We received two approximately 5 inch pancakes on each plate. The pancakes were $8.00, The server never returned to ask if everything was ok.. We asked for the check and went to the cashier to pay. The cashier took our money and never asked how everything was. After receiving our change we told cashier we would never eat here again. The check said 2 short stacks but the menu didn't state the golden pancakes were short stacks or say how many on the plate. The cashier said she would tell them?? but never offered to have someone speak to us. The staff is unfriendly. Avoid and consider the other two neighboring diners in Commack. This place is a RIP OFF. First and last time I'm coming here! The servers seemed nice until I asked them a question. My waitress got a little pissy after a question about what I wanted to order. I ordered the cheeseburger and a salad. They didn't have Caesar salad so I got a plain salad with Caesar dressing. What restaurant doesn't have Caesar salad? When the salad came, the dressing packet was already torn and the lettuce smelled like dirty dish water. I was too disgusted to eat it. The burger came and even though I ordered medium rare, it was burnt and tasted very charred. The cheese tasted funny and the bun was extremely soggy. One of the two tables next to me had a bunch of little kids jumping around and yelling, yet the waitresses did nothing. The other table next to me had a old man who was asking the waitress a question about his order, and she started yelling at him! The worst part of it all is that as I was leaving, one of the larger waitresses walked into me, and stared me down, as if I had walked into her. No apology. Nothing! read more
