Okay, where to start. We all love Oliver's here in Cotati. I've been to the other Oliver's only to find each one the same, but oh so very different too. Well, carry many of the same things, but like any good marketing scheme, cater to the locals. For instance, there's a terrible price for Lagunitas IPA at the Oliver's in Rincon Valley. It never goes on sale. And my friend who lives there just says "There's nothing but old people out here. No one buys it!". But when pointing out, it always goes on sale at "my" Oliver's she simply quips "Yeah, that's because you're in a college town where the kids drink beer." The largest of the three Oliver's in Sonoma County is located in Cotati. I think it generally speaking has the best prices between each location and also the best selection. Especially the bulk section. Sprouts in Petaluma rivals Oliver's bulk section, but only by freshness/sale pricing, not by selection. The main reason I love this Oliver's, besides being close to my house, always having affordable deals, fresh barbecue to buy that you can smell walking in (on weekends and holidays), the awesome soup and salad bars, the cheese samples throughout the store, the really fresh and obscure produce (like over 10 types of mushrooms, fresh turmeric, fresh galangal, and say ... passion fruit?), the fact that there is always a good beer sale (always at least one good IPA on sale each week) - not to mention an awesome beer selection, is that ... no matter which way I change my diet/lifestyle they always have an awesome selection of tasty goodness. Oh going vegan this week? Try some fresh sliced vegan bread, or some awesome frozen gourmet veggies patties (I recommend frying in coconut oil straight in a pan for best results), or meander down the dairy isle and at the end is all your dairy free wide selection of vegan "cheeze" and soy based products. They do have some good miso selections too, but if you want a really good miso selection from local companies (cheaper too) head down the street to the Asian market by Mike's at the Crossroads. Or if you are feeling especially carnivorous, this Oliver's has killer meat. The butchers will trim, cut, or even order/save special cuts (we once stumbled upon some pork belly for almost nothin) ... but hey, don't all the specialty gourmet grocery stores do that? There is just a HUGE selection here by the other fancy grocery store standards. Ehem, yes, even over Whole Foods in Coddingtown in Santa Rosa. Better prices too. Not that much better mind you, but we all love our grass fed beef and local fresh-never-frozen Rocky Chicken, right? And don't get me started on the deli ... great sandwiches, wraps, and salads. A complaint? The sushi bar. It's terrible. It's made fresh but once we had the sushi at Sprouts, couldn't go back to the packaged sushi at Oliver's. The rice is really bland and mushy. You can't have mushy rice in a roll, that's a no-no. Basically, if you shop the deals here and look to where they can be found you can get out of here with a really healthy basket of goodies at a low price. My favorite latest find? If you buy the sunflower sprouts in the salad bar, they work out to under half the price of the prepackaged sunflower sprouts in the produce section. And you get to pick out all the good ones! Oh and if you ask to buy something by the case (like if the coconut oil goes on sale for $7.99 from $18.99 or your favorite olive oil goes on sale for $9.99 from $21.99) you not only get the sale price but you get an additional ten percent off. Awesome! I could really gush about this place for days, but really, I'm sure you'll just bump into me there tomorrow. And while you're there, don't forget to check out the ethnic isle. Everything from authentic Jewish, UK, Irish, and Italian imported food. I wish I could afford all the Italian stuff! Some really great olive mixes, condiments, truffle this and that ... ah to be a foodie. To be a foodie, is to love this Oliver's. read more

this is a 1 star review for the bakery. i understand i need to inform you 72 hours for a cake, i called morning of Sunday for a basic 8 inch cake. no customizations. just a cake. the employee said, they are overbooked and cant make a simple cake order but they could get me one by Wednesday. 1 day late. they couldn't accommodate for me at all. i ask to talk to a manager and she sounded super snarky, treated me with disrespect and told me they will not make a cake at all, not even for Wednesday which was funny because the employee said they could. so i told her i understand your policy is 72 hours for sheet cakes and larger cakes but they don't advertise, "all cakes need 72 hours" notice. after many other excuses the manager then sites lack of staffing and blames management for not having enough employees to make one more cake. her toxic attitude is the reason why i will only go to santa rosa stony Oliver's from now on. after getting nowhere with this bakery i call santa rosa stony point store and have the exact opposite experience. not only could they make the cake, they offered me decorations and custom message with no problem within 48 hours, and told me they only really needed a day notice for the basic cakes. i was so impressed by not only the look of the cake. it tasted amazing!!! and the costumer service was outstanding. the funny thing is, Cotati is not as busy as santa rosa so store but santa rosa was still able to nail my cake order. read more

Usually they are very good and the food is still good. But I ordered 3 weeks ahead-we go to pick up and they don't have it because they gave it to someone else with the same last name without even checking her receipt. Then they had us wait while they built a new box for us-we get home and they left out the dinner rolls-you can do better Oliver's! read more

I wanted to express my appreciation for having such a first rate and well run grocery/supermarket such as Oliver's to frequent for most of my daily needs. First, Oliver's Cotati is kind-of-a mix of hippie-ish health food store and modern grocery that is both relaxed and well presented. It is not an especially large market compared to the number of Whole Foods, Dragers, and Andronicos that I've shopped at when living in other parts of the Bay Area. Oliver's does not at first appear to be as upscale as these other markets I've mentioned; but, I do not think that is the niche they are going for. Just the same, Oliver's imparts a boutique feel with all the wonderful specialty items they offer. Also, the produce department, meat department, wine department, vitamin department, bakery, and gift center are certainly impressive enough. I love the fact Oliver's is MY local market, not a big chain or an upscale brand to flaunt. Their organic produce and organic products in general are prevalent and I will almost always choose an organic product if it is available. I actually count the products that are not organic at the checkout line to see how well I'm doing in my desire to be all organic. It is also very nice that Oliver's highlights items grown and/or produced in Sonoma County. I think it is very important that cities and communities keep jobs, transportation of goods, and the "energy" of their locales close to home. It is this very spirit of Oliver's that raises a mere local business to a member of the community to enthusiastically support. I often shop at Oliver's Market twice a day for my fresh groceries, not only because I find most everything I need there; but, because I am so comfortable there . . . Oliver's is my kind of market. I am a big fan of this grocery store. I feel like people that work there have pride in their jobs and actually truly care about their establishment. It is refreshing as I have not really had a local store like this one anywhere in the Bay Area. They have live music outside on the weekends. The BBQ is awesome. The cheese guy or gal is always super attentive but not annoying. I feel like they are a real community store. Much better than a chain super market. I like the store but they are authoritarians who force people to stand next to each other in a long line to get in the store, which they claim will protect people from the virus. By forcing people to stand together for some time. Instead of walking freely by themselves when there's tons of space in the store (I looked). So they are increasing the spread, but they just want to look like authoritarians so stupid people feel like "something is being done". Clown world. read more

It's like the other Oliver's markets in Sonoma county - The locally owned version of Whole Foods. Great quality meats, deli items, bakery items made in house. Produce section usually carries tasty vegetables and fruits. Tries to source them as locally as possible. Emphasis on organic items. The salad bar is top notch for wide selection, freshness and flavor. The hot / steam table is okay, it is not epicurean cuisine. If you're craving turkey breast with gravy and mashed potatoes on a cold winter day - This will satisfy. I like the bulk bins for granola, pop corn, etc... Cool that there's a homeopathic remedies section always staffed by a knowledgeable person. Prices higher than a Safeway, Lucky's, Albertson's. Oliver's is excellent. I moved to Petaluma from Fairfax and really miss Good Earth. Olivers was the first place to provide a great substitute - it is much larger than Good Earth so the selection is really first rate. Tons of organic produce, gluten free, terrific meat and fish selection, great store baked chocolate chip cookies (critical for a good review), and so much more. They keep the store immaculately clean, well managed during the pandemic. The only problem is I manage to slip in several new discoveries in my cart that drives the price up - my fault, guilty pleasures :) read more

Yes, this place has a great wine selection, beer selection, cheese selection, produce selection, etc. This is not why I love Oliver's Market. One word: BURRITO. I hate tex-mex burritos. I *adore* Oliver's tex-mex burrito. I spent 3 years in RoPo, and I ate an Oliver's burrito probably once per week. I recently went back a couple weeks ago, the burrito was amazing as ever. I cannot express how wonderful and tasty this thing is. I will post pictures above, they will do the talking. Let me guide you to a perfect burrito order: 1) Super Burrito. Do not get anything smaller, you can cut it in half and save it for later if you must. Yes, it's $8. It's worth every penny and the smaller ones are nowhere near as good. 2) Chicken. I typically ONLY eat carne asada. I get the chicken here. They do it amazing. 3) NO LETTUCE NO TOMATO. Don't do it. 4) Beans = Refried. Cheese = Yes. Mushrooms = Yes. Cilantro = Yes. Onions = Yes. Write "GRILLED PLEASE :-)" next to the onions. They will be 1,000 times better. 5) Pico De Gallo salsa. 6) Free chips please! Prepare yourself for awesomeness. Oliver's is a great supermarket if you are looking for some organic food or products. Also they have a nice gift section. If you are not in the mood for cooking you should try their tacos and other meals they have because they are really good. You should take also as a dessert one of their AMAZING cakes. Although everything that they sell has a great quality you will be surprised of how expensive it is. I think is not for doing the groceries there if not in order to buy specific staff. read more

Its a rare occasion for me to get a deli sandwich. Yet, when someone else is paying, I'm in. You write your order on a bag that Oliver's provided. Its a check off list of how you want to build your sandwich. Mine was Roast Beef on white bread with onions and sprouts. You then call the order in or take your bag down and turn it in and pick it on your way. Its a really smart idea. I really, really liked that you choose the amount of mayo to put on your sandwich. I hate a dry sandwich. So of course I chose lots. The sandwich was delicious and exactly like I ordered. read more

I adore this store for my regular grocery shopping, everything from the deli, butcher, wine and cheese and produce is top notch and service is wonderful. When I asked if three Mother's Day baskets could be made for a non profit for clients suffering from domestic violence they stepped up. During Covid they were not able to get baskets so Shirley took it upon herself to get beautiful bags and tissue paper and made everything look beautiful. Grocery store has the best deli in the county, if not the entire Bay Area. Bakery is to die for. Produce crisp, fresh abundant. Meat and fish counter amazing. Why , you may ask, only 3 stars? Because, more often than not, with just a handful of exceptions during the 25 plus years I have occasionally shopped here, (only because what I wanted could not be found elsewhere), the stock people and checkout clerks are cold, indifferent, surly and just plain rude. Oliver's is a neighborhood market with an amazing selection of local and regional produce and meats, a fantastic deli and hot meals counter, and pretty good store-made sushi. The fish is so-so, you have to get a close look and smell before buying. the healing/pharmacy area is well stocked with everything! (Arnica to Zinc!) Super friendly and helpful staff, an excellent bakery and coffee bar... And lots of odds and ends like ethnic foods, local beverages and ice creams and beers. Oh, an excellent selection of beers too! They also have an occasional BBQ going out front. As others have pointed out, it's not cheap to shop here. I don't do it for regular grocery shopping. Had a milestone birthday this month that required a cake that would land somewhere between "big box retail," and "Ace of Cakes." Specifically, I wanted a Chinese-style Longevity cake and I soon found out that bespoke cakes carry some pretty hefty price tags -- like $12 a serving. This was a big birthday, but not that big!! I found the online "Oliver's Gourmet Cakes," brochure from Oliver's market and was impressed by the variety of cake flavors, styles and sizes -- and having waited days for quotes from other cake makers, was relieved by the up-front pricing. The Passionfruit Mousse cake seemed exotic, and Chocolate cheesecake described as "dense and creamy," caught my attention, but who I am I kidding, I ordered the 1/4 sheet Princess Cake! It was huge and gorgeous and insanely delicious! Moist white cake, raspberry jam, heaps of fresh whipped cream wrapped in a perfect Chinese Red marzipan for less than $4 a generous serving. I have come across a lot of great checkers in my time. But there is one here that is hands down the best. He is usually at the express lane. I'm going to say his name is Josh. I have NEVER seen him have a bad day. He ALWAYS has a smile on his face. He ALWAYS says hello to my little baby and gives her stickers. He Always goes out of his way to connect with me. I love going local, but I hate going into Olivers market... It's not the staff, they are fine. The prices, yes, they are a little painful, but so is driving across town to shop anywhere else... The real reason I abhor going into Olivers is my fellow customers... I have never walked around a more entitled bunch of pricks in my life... Maybe they should make the shopping carts smaller, as these wine country snobs have no plan on "sharing the road". I now have minor PTSD from being run over by Patagonia-clad cheese and wine connoisseurs. I just wanted a sandwich. I'm not thrilled about the price of my sandwich, either, but hey if you're living in Sonoma County, obviously you can afford a BLT, small macaroni salad and a kombucha for $18.49. But that's pretty much on par with the price of housing here so hey, keep going local... If I'm not looking for decent food, I'd rather go to Grocery Outlet, where the common people who shop there are at least courteous enough to share an aisle, and aren't desperately in love with the smell of their own farts like the crappy shoppers at Oliver's Cotati. read more

Beer selection is about the best I've seen in a grocery store. Deli counter is reasonably quick and has really good sandwiches. As an out-of-towner I was quite impressed by Oliver's Market. It had the feel of a high-end grocery store, but not necessarily the prices of a high-end grocery store. The selection here is excellent, with your high quality meats (can ask for grass fed beef only), fishes, organic produce, deli, and bakery. They even had their own cheese section, with some high-end samples out. Oh, and they have fresh sushi... Another thing that struck me about Oliver's was it seemed that people liked working there, and when the employees are happy with their jobs, this makes a big difference in customer service and the atmosphere in general. Another great thing is that the seem slightly over-staffed, which means small check-out lines. My uncle's friend (weird I know) once cried when she moved away and entered a different grocery store since it couldn't even come close to the bar that Oliver's set. Tearing up over a grocery store? That's quite a statement! If I lived in the area, I wouldn't shop anywhere else. read more

Ordered two burritos like I normally do, but it was right when the employees were switching shifts. Did my shopping, came back and the burritos were not made. Kindly asked the new employee to make the burritos and he did a sloppy job. One had shredded chicken instead of grilled and the other had no lettuce and a large chicken BONE inside. Little known killer sandwich place. I CANNOT get ENOUGH of their fresh and organic ingredients, with some fantastic sauces. Tip, always get your sandwich toasted, and always ask for a little bit extra of a certain ingredient, and they are happy to oblige.
