The deli section? Life-changing. I've seen people cry tears of joy over their sandwiches -- real tears, not the fake onion-cutting kind. And the hot bar? It's like Thanksgiving every day, except you don't have to deal with your weird uncle who thinks gravy is a beverage. But the real magic is in the customers. Only here can you spot a retired hippie in Birkenstocks debating organic almond butter choices while a teenager in pajama pants buys sushi and an energy drink like it's a perfectly normal combination. Spoiler: it is normal here. Pacific Market is basically the Sebastopol town square disguised as a grocery store. Need kombucha on tap? They got it. Need artisan bread that costs more than your first car payment? Yup. Need a place to people-watch and silently judge kale chip enthusiasts? Welcome home, friend. Five stars. If I could move into the cheese section, I would.

I love getting local produce and eggs from my neighbors chickens. Their veggie starts do amazingly at my place. But the real reason you should shop there is because yesterday when the person who was supposed to drop my groceries had an emergency and couldn't bring them. I was recovering from abdominal cancer surgery so I couldn't go myself. Anthony, one of the owners I believe, offered to drop them off. He came right after work. Never event brought up a service or delivery fee. It's a 5-7 min drive for him but the gesture, for me, is reason enough to shop there as often as I can.

The lows; the Thai tea that was basically orange colored chai and the utterly insulting beverage pretending to be matcha. That last point can't be stressed enough and to the barista that tried gaslighting me, matcha, similar to champagne, gets its name from where it comes from. Meaning, you can't grow matcha in the states and call it matcha. Matcha comes from Japan. It isn't that I'm used to big box versions of it. It isn't that I haven't had real matcha before. I've had ceremonial grade matcha from stores that specialize in doing nothing but matcha and whatever Bill's Brew is selling isn't.
