Ambience wasn't great. Service was OK. My meal was terrible. I don't know what it tasted like, but it was the seafood de Fralo. The lobster was crunchy, the scallops were undercooked the two that were in there. Everything tasted exactly the same. I was very disappointed as I had had the same meal there back in May. And it was good.. The place is freezing. It's hard to be comfortable and enjoy your time. This was very disappointing to me when you're away on a two day vacation and you're looking for that one dinner that you go out for and it doesn't meet your expectations. Kind of sucks. read more

I'm writing this review due to the complete level of unprofessionalism that I experienced tonight. I have visited this location throughout my entire life. I even once worked for the old owner of the establishment.I was told when sitting down for a beverage that I was not allowed to be served. When asking why, I was told it was due to a waitstaff member and a family member of mine that had recently ended their relationship... I then asked "have I personally (Austin Groves) done anything wrong in this establishment?" I was then confirmed that I haven't done anything wrong... Yet I was asked to leave... I've worked in the service industry my whole life, one general rule of thumb is workers are not allowed to bring their day to day baggage into work because it affects both morale and sales for the company. read more

Popped into the bar in time for last call. Service was friendly and attentive and we sat in the comfy seats overlooking the street.

We ate here twice for dinner. After two dinners here, we can safely say that we will eat here every time we stay in Ogunquit. We ordered beef tips and short ribs of beef. Both were good- I especially liked the tender, lean, and flavorful short ribs. House salad is good, too, and is available in single and dinner portions. The wine list by the glass is extensive enough- I paired a fine Malbec with my short ribs. Seating is comfortable, and it's easy to get a window table, here for "people watching." Service was friendly and helpful. This fine restaurant is just a short walk from where we stayed. When in Ogunquit, give it a try. read more

My wife and I came here for our anniversary dinner and could not have been happier. The staff is very professional and helpful. Even the other guests were friendly. The atmosphere is lovely, with tablecloths and lovely furniture and decorations. The bar is also very dignified. I visit Ogunquit every year and the Old Village Inn is always on our list. The interior recently underwent a major renovation and the results are beautiful and welcoming. Our server Abby was very friendly and attentive. Martini was very good. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. My wife & i ordered the French Onion soup which was very good. We shared Ceasar salad. Lettuce was fresh & crisp but very little cheese and almost no Ceasars dressing. My wife ordered chicken piccara. Chicken overcooked and dry. Almost no piccata sauce looked liked they squeezed some lemon on it & added a few capers. I had the ribeye. Served medium rare as ordered but steak was a little to tough and not aged enough. We had no plans , just looking at menus. Well the Old Village Inn- Menu sounded great, difficult to make a choice. Our waiter Matt was the best. Attentive, timely and great with his recommendations. We started with Oysters Rockefeller. Then Cesar Salad and a Grilled Wedge. The focaccia served with great olive oil and balsamic. They told us where we could buy them both. We will. Dinner was Cacio e Pepe and Short Rib with Risotto. Perfect. No room for dessert. But everyone around us seemed to enjoy it. Another staff member, Ava , just graduated from our alma mater. We came as a family of 5 and it is our first time visiting Ogunquit. The first problem we went into was the complications trying to find something for my parents dairy and gluten intolerance. The waiter said she would bring a dish without dairy and gluten and just didn't bring it? In addition, they brought out the youngest one's food last for some reason. The service wasn't that great for how upscale the restaurant was, everything took a while even though they offered refills of bread and water every minute. We also received a table in the back and were receiving weird looks from some customers. Some of the food options are pretty good, but overall the experience was something I wouldn't come back to. read more

We had dinner reservations for 8:30 PM. While we understand that the kitchen closes at 9 PM, we were completely rushed throughout the remainder of our meal--despite being fully out of the restaurant by 10:00 PM. (maybe consider not takins 8:30pm reservations?) While we were still eating dinner, the lights were turned off around us and the music was shut off, which made it very clear we were being pushed out. A server even poured us a glass of wine, yet we were given no time to actually enjoy it. As we were walking toward the bar/exit with nearly full wine glasses, we overheard an employee shout, "get them the f** out."* This was incredibly inappropriate, rude, and unprofessional. The food itself was very good, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the meal. No guest should feel rushed, disrespected, or spoken about that way--especially when holding a valid reservation. Extremely poor service and unacceptable behavior. read more

My family absolutely adored the Old Village Inn under previous ownership. It was quaint, maybe a little outdated, but the staff was always pleasant, food was amazing at the restaurant and you can't beat that location for an overnight stay. Unfortunately, we are less than impressed with new ownership. When attempting to use a gift certificate given to us shortly before the ownership change, we were told the gift certificates would not be honored. This was after multiple phone calls to ask about this, and never receiving phone calls back. At one point we were told to email a copy of the gift certificate to the owner (it was a paper certificate) but that email was also not returned. When doing research, we found that gift certificates in Maine can have no expiry, and most cases would be a deferred liability during the sale of a business that usually is honored as a good business practice. No such luck here. We are actually very disappointed in this, as many of our family and friends loved spending weekends here. We will have to look for another spot to call our home away from home from now on (too bad we're out $1000 though) read more

We had reservations for 6 people at 5:30 pm. We were seated at a table that looked directly into the sun. There wasn't a shade on the window and it was intolerable to sit there. We asked to be moved to a more appropriate table or put something up to block the sun. The staff and management made no effort to accommodate us in a more comfortable area of the restaurant. Great location right in the middle of town with free parking in a designated spot. Our room on the third floor had an ocean view. Unfortunately, there was no elevator, which was a little challenging since we're old! About a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. Very friendly and helpful staff. We had lunch at their rooftop restaurant in a separate building. They also serve dinner in the main building, which also has a bar, but we did not eat there. Dinner serving have a range of fresh items with fine presentation. Improvement suggestion-french onion soup needs work. Very thin cheese on top, bread used not a match for French onion soup. Visited OVI on a quiet Monday in the dead of winter. Lively bar crowd but quiet otherwise. The service was great, attentive yet not hovering. The fresh warm focaccia bread to start the meal was out of this world, four days later and I can't stop thinking about it. I had the braised short rib and my date had the chicken piccata both were absolutely amazing. Even in the middle of the very quiet off Season everything was fresh and fabulous. We finished our meal with the lemon crème brûlée which was light and creamy. The attention to detail in everything that hit our table and the decor of the restaurant shows the owner takes pride in his place, as well he should. What a disappointment! The Old Village Inn has new ownership and was totally renovated. Hostess was lovely. That's the positive. The food - total negative. First, no oysters or swordfish. OK. We pivot to the heirloom tomatoes and prosciutto appetizer in lieu of oysters. Came with a hair on the plate. Yuk! Waitress brings new order. We also ordered the Parker House rolls: $13 for 4 small rolls that may have been brown and serve. Of course, the entrees came while we were eating the appetizer redux. Back they went to the heat lamp. We were told they made new entrees, but we were served very overcooked chicken picatta and dried out pasta. So, orig entrees dried out under warmers or new overcooked, either way no good. We were not offered any allowance for these issues, paid the full tab, and left. Will never return and caution others to visit at your peril. read more

Excellent meal at the newly renovated Old Village Inn. It looks amazing inside, completely renovated but still historic appearing. An exciting menu as well. Oysters, both raw and Mitokyaki style were amazing. I had a Caesar salad which was also quite good. Entree of my companions was the Lobster grits which was great. Traveling solo for business, I had a wonderful meal tonight at the old village Inn in Ogunquit. The bar area is cozy, warm and inviting. I asked a couple who was leaving what they had had and the gentleman recommended the schnitzel which did not disappoint. The portion was generous and I washed it down with a cold local IPA. Good flavor but the potatoes were cold 2 of 6 of us ordered this with them being cold. My coffee also stone cold. We did tell the waiter & he relayed to the kitchen with a response that yes we need warmers, this has been a problem. Another one in our group ordered French onion soup the bread in the soup was unable to be consumed, like rubber. We still ordered dessert to try that was ok. They offered us no compensation for our meals in any form , not even a dessert on the house. Very disappointed in years prior it was outstanding. If you Google "best restaurants" in Ogunquit, The Old Village Inn does not appear on any top ten list. Which is baffling, because this is a special place with amazing food. There are other good places in town (we had good meals at Jonathan's and Cornerstone Pizza), but we decided to try this place on our last night in town as most other places were booked up on a Saturday night. And we lucked into the best meal we've had in ages. The restaurant is stunning, the service is superb, and the food was amazing. Very expensive for cold meals. $39 for 5 scallops and mashed potatoes that was served cold. 2 of out of 6 in our party was served cold. French onion soup had bread that was too hard to cut into. Unfortunately, a less than favorable experience. The Inn had recently been updated and it was well appointed and very comfortable. It then went down hill. After being seated we were told the kitchen was out of oysters and swordfish. A bit disappointing. A cocktail was ordered and I ordered a bottle of wine for the table. There was a bit of an issue with the wine but it was quickly resolved. We ordered the heirloom tomato appetizer which sounded delicious and Parker house rolls. If you're a fan of prosciutto you will be disappointed. The tomatoes were very good until a hair was spotted on the plate. The plate was removed by the waitress and she returned with another appetizer. The tomatoes were not as ripe and there was far less lemon oil. We had ordered the chicken picatta when we ordered our appetizer. Unfortunately entrees were delivered while we were still eating our appetizer. The chicken appeared to be crispy and overcooked. The entrees were removed and so were the remaining rolls. When we finished the appetizer the dinners were returned by a server that had not waited on us. We were promptly told to not touch the plate because it was very hot. The chicken now bordered on burnt. When it was mentioned the server told us they were freshly prepared. In addition to the chicken cutlet issue the pasta was clumped and dried up. Entrees were barely eaten. We requested the check. Very surprised we were charged for the tomatoes with the hair and did not receive some sort of reduced charge for the dried up entrees. The one bright light was the hostess. She was professional, very pleasant and accommodating. She is great for the front of the house. read more

We are not opposed to contemporary decor in restaurants however we do not want it in a historic Inn. The new menu is very limited and none of the former appetizers and entrees are offerd. Heather Lee was our server on a recent visit. We were too early for the dining room, so we opted for the lounge area. Heatherlee was very helpful, and personable. She guided my wife through the cocktail menu, as well as the dinner menu. My wife had a delicious scallop dinner, while I had the tenderloin au poivre, which was somewhat lacking the black pepper kick. We were treated like royalty by the staff members we interacted with. My wife lost her gloves, but when I called to inquire if they might have been turned in, Kim, the hostess said she would look for them. She kept me on the phone and told me she located the gloves! This is one of our go-to restaurants in the Ogunquit area. We highly recommend this restaurant for the food, service, and ambiance. read more

We make a point to eat in this restaurant several times a year. We appreciate that it has kept the same look and quality that we have come to love for over 40 years. When so many places update with the times, it feels good to have a restaurant that holds on to the classic esthetic that my friends and family have appreciated for all this time. One negative is that they no longer serve Prime Rib. I wish they would bring back the Prime Rib with popover. The Ribeye steak is too thin and nowhere a good as the Prime Rib that I enjoyed for decades. Please bring it back. read more

The best thing to order here is the lobster linguine Florentine. Tons of lobster and also mushrooms, spinach in a nice cream sauce. It would be great if you could give an option of spicy since it lacked any kind of zing. This dish would actually be four stars with that option. Next sis and Mom got the ribeye special unfortunately, they said it was an embarrassment to even call it a rib eye. It was as thin as a piece of paper! Lastly, other sis got the stuffed shrimp. Lacked any kind of flavor and way too much bread stuffing. It was supposed to have some kind of seafood stuffing. Never tasted any kind of seafood. Just not good. Doubt we will be back. read more

First time here, we have been very cautious during this pandemic, so of course outside seating and dog friendly, as my dog is very neurotic. The hostess/greeter was horrible, had a mask on around her neck, not her mouth or nose and was almost rude. While stating we had a reservation she was just looking dumbfounded and the owner opened the door and said they have reservations give them a table. Our waiter was Joe and he was great. He had a mask on, was very friendly, I saw him using sanitizer more than once. They were out of prime rib which almost dropped them to a three but the burger I got in replacement was juicy and delicious, my husband got the lobster special which looked and tasted superb, but alas I hate mushrooms. Hubby got the lava cake for dessert, which we hated so much, as you can tell by the picture :) I will def be back. read more
