This place has really gone down hill in the past several months. My wife and I dine here at least twice a month and usually on Sundays. It's been pretty empty and the service has still just not been what is needs to be, I shouldn't have to grab our own menus and silverware. Sara does a rockstar job but I'm not sure if anyone else has a clue as to what is going on. Tighten it back up OIP or you're going to start to lose loyal people who really like your establishment. read more

The best thing about this restaurant is the patio/location. Everything else is lacking. No one wiped off any of the outside patio tables during our 2-hour stay. Our table was sticky from the drinks and food before, but no one offered to wipe it clean. Drinks are decent. We waited almost 45 minutes for a club sandwich meal. The wait staff also like to congregate by the bar and hang out with each other instead of waiting on tables which is a little sloppy, in my opinion. I will probably not return, and it is sad to have such a great patio spot wasted on a place like this. read more

Finally I'm able to give a good update, my wife and I came back tonight, the cheese fries with chili were great, good chili. We both had the steak and it was very good and flavorful. The sweet potato fries were awesome with the maple mayo. The coconut pineapple pie was awesome as well, definitely earned back our business, only had one minor issue with burnt corn on the cob but they replaced that, overall very good experience on the patio tonight. I may revisit this review again later. Just the first time experience was not a good one. We understood it was busy and we waited on the list. An hour goes by when we were told it would be 30 min. The lady told us for some reason our name was crossed out and that's why we were over looked and that it would be 15 minutes or less for a table but we would be at top of the list. We ended up just leaving. Granted this was from 2 weeks ago. But hope next time there will be a better way to go about this. read more

We ate at The Old Iron Post for the first time on Sunday. I do have to say that the Service was excellent! Aaron helped us through each section of the menu and had great suggestions for us! We had the monkeyballs, which wasn't my favorite thing but were still good. My Wife had the Porker which had fantastic flavor to it, another ounce of meat would have made it a perfect sandwich. I had the Jalapeño burger which was pretty good! Definitely will recomend people to try it out! read more

California Cheesesteak was on point!!! The TX caviar was great. I might have to try and remake it at home. Also had chicken and waffles. It was good but a little too much syrup. They also put powdered sugar on it which made it sweeter than I like. The wait staff was very friendly. They have fried Oreos which we wanted to try, but were too full after our meal. read more

So after posting a mediocre review, I was contacted by the owner and I shared some of my views with him personally and he apologized for the service and was quite nice and seemed concerned. He offered me a gift certificate and asked me to give them another chance. He said my gift certificate would be waiting in the office and just give my server my name the next time I came in. My daughter and I went in last week to give them another try. Not only was the service still slow, there was no gift certificate waiting. Our waitress was less than interested in looking into it even after I showed her the messages from the owner saying he would leave it for me. After she dropped off our food, she never came back to check on us again. Our drinks were empty and never got refilled. We had to ask another waitress for our ticket and a to do box. I'll definitely be marking this place off my list. The food was mediocre at best anyway. My daughter ordered tacos and there was absolutely no seasoning on the meat. Just plain ground beef and we ordered queso and it was a lumpy cold mess. So needless to say I ended up paying for more bad service and so so food. read more

This place is awful. Our bartender (a guy with glasses) was very disinterested and never asked if we wanted another beverage. We flagged down a server to ask for our check and it still took 20 minutes to get the tab and another 15 to get our card back. Sub par food. Mediocre drinks. Spoke to a manager who acted like we were the problem when all we wanted was an apology or some acknowledgement that they failed to provide the service that is expected at any restaurant. read more

Companies that make changes in the name of profit that compromise quality deserve failure. The wings where like baby cornish wings over cooked and sawdusted! Well.....I had really high hopes for this place...It was a huge letdown. Mostly the food.....a small menu is fine if its good and fresh. The menu says fresh...its fresh off the Sysco truck. Its basic consession stand food. We paid $50.for 3 burgers, made with premade frozen patties and cold gummy queso. We didn't go for entrees due to what we saw on the few tables around us and angry patrons.....tried to play it safe first go round... And none of it was good :( The space and location are great I was just envisioning much more not the same restraunt/bar as every other restraunt / bar within a 30 mile radius. Service and atmosphere were excellent. The live music was decent. The food was just okay. I ordered the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and house salad. The house salad was very fresh and had all the fixins, and I had no complaints about the mashed potatoes and gravy. The serving size was generous. That being said... The chicken fried steak was just so-so. Enough so that I won't be ordering it from here again. The breading (in my opinion the most important part) was more in the way than something to be proud of. It made me think of precooked chicken fried steak. It wasn't bad, just something I wouldn't be that proud to serve, and I believe if you have chicken fried steak on your menu in Sherman then it needs to be something we're going to brag on. My wife had the nachos and she just raved over the cheese sauce. So there's that. The price was right until you add in a beer. Beer prices are about as high as they can be, so don't plan on coming here for drinks unless you want a large bar tab. Overall it was a good experience, so given the limited number of locally owned restaurants I will definitely be coming back - maybe to try their burgers next time. read more

Old Iron Post has so much potential and I keep trying it with my friends hoping that the staff will improve in attitude and service. It almost happened last night. Zack was a great waiter. Everything was going well until.....I walked in between the bar and the kitchen window (which is about ten feet walkway) to get to the bathrooms instead of walking back up to the front door and circling the entire restaurant to go to the bathroom. The staff was leaning on the bar talking and laughing (instead of checking on their customers) and one blonde waitress with an attitude said "You are going to need to go around the other way." I replied with a no because I was one step away from being on the other side of the bar. It sounded like she smarted off because the staff was staring and snickering at the situation. I went back to my friends and yes, I did the lap around the bar as instructed. My suggestion is to put up small swinging doors or a sign on the wall that lets your patrons know that we can't walk there instead of having this repeated....and losing more customers. read more

TRY THE SWEET POTATO FRIES WITH MAPLE MAYO! I'm aware of what you're thinking, "Maple syrup and mayonnaise?! That's an abomination." Believe me, I'm just as afraid of mayo as anyone else out there but that dipping sauce brings out the beauty in the fries!! Take a risk! Taste the fry version of a cinnamon roll! Try it! Seems the general consensus around Sherman is bad service and bad food. I've been back 3-4 times hoping things would be different but they definitely are not. Was there last night and the previous night with family and friends and nothing is more irritating than waiting 15 minuets for a beer. They have one bartender on staff for a bar that seats 30 or so people. The bartenders are very poorly trained and have little knowledge of any customer service. The waitstaff is terrible. They are always on their phones huddled up in groups doing nothing when I'm waiting Upwards of 20 minutes for service. They are rude and can not handle a small work load. Many of their employees are friends an hangout up there when they are not working and drinking. Very unprofessional. I talked with a young lady who I suppose was the manager and she was very short and cryptic, she did not handle my problem well and does not know anything about the food industry. I hope they can find news augment and bartenders because I know of many Sherman citizens who want this place to be enjoyable but they will not go back because of the poor service and food. It has potential to be a great venue to drink and eat but know one in their staff has the experience or knowledge to run this establishment. I spent 2 hours their last night and would have spent much more money if I was able to get the drinks I wanted and ordered. By poor service and staffing they are missing out on profit. Won't be back for some time. read more

Wow. What a great Gem! As far as looks are concerned- it's a super cute old rustic building with great vibe. Huge bar! Everyone was very happy with our food, and we have some tough critics. I ordered a side of elote, parm fries, and fries califlower and I was better than I expected. Really, one of the best parm fries I've ever had. Love that they were hand cut and doused with garlic. Yum. One complaint- I hate onions- and although the fries didn't say they had onions, they came with a heaping pile of them. Ick, but easy enough by to pick off. The califlower was amazing, again, one of the best. It was very soft inside, I couldn't figure out exactly how that was done. Maybe either cooking them way long? Either way it was a win. Lastly, the elote was my least fav. It was great that it was cut off the cob, to preVent it being all over my face, but it was too limey and not enough parm. We will def come back. My aunt had the Phillie cheese and my uncle had the fried steak and both were super happy. Last thought- I do not like that they automatically brought straws in the drinks- even though I specially asked to not have one. It's a huge waste and bad for the environment but Very happy they use linen napkins, and not paper. Strong work! read more

I usually love going to OIP, especially on Wednesday's for their 2$ margs! I have never had a bad experience until tonight. Large groups are not unusual for a Wednesday night, especially when AC students are in town. Just like every other Wednesday, a large group of us headed to there around 7 to celebrate a friends birthday. We got there & I stopped to talk to several other friends before taking my spot at the table. It was already taking a long time to get margs, but when it was my turn to order, I ordered queso (which was delicious) & a strawberry marg! My friends ordered queso as well. It took 45 minutes for their queso to come out. Then my waitress asked me if I was missing something & I said my queso. She said she would go out it in, so I waited. About 20 minutes later she came back and asked what I had ordered. I told her again I had ordered queso, she told me that my friends queso was actually my order & I said no they actually ordered queso before me! She then brought my queso around 20 minutes later and told me that this wasn't my order & that the first one was actually my order and they ate it. I don't understand how that was possible, but it was whatever I wasn't worried I had my food! I didn't even try to order another marg because I didn't want to wait anymore. It came time for us to get our checks, & so myself and my ride asked for ours first. She only brought back my friends check and not mine. I had to wait another 20 minutes to get my check. She took mine and then brought back several other checks but never my friends. She was the last one to get her change. Then, the bar tender kicked someone in my group out for asking to buy another drink at the bar. I was there for 3 hours. I am upset that the restaurant did not get our waitress help, as she was obviously overwhelmed. The restaurant was almost empty. Overall this was a terrible experience. Our first visit was great. Atmosphere was fantastic (historic and rustic). The food was delicious. We enjoyed chicken fried steaks, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and salads. This place is awesome. It's sort of a Sherman museum. Great food. I had the chips and queso to start with. It was some of the best queso I've had. It sorta came out cold but it's really good. I had the teriyaki chicken and my buddy had the tuna. We were both pleased by the quality and quantity. I also had Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries which were awesome as well. One common thing I noticed was that the food went cold fast. I'm not sure if it was a delay of the delivery or what, but I won't be deterred in fact I'll probably go back for lunch today! read more

Five star boneless chicken wings!!!! The location is very cool and Extremely roomy. A bonus is the fact old iron post is open every day of the week! The bar serves the local 903 beer and the local ironroot spirits, so that is very nice. Reserving the fifth star for a bartender who listens to customers and understands that a patron wants his drink how he wants it and not how bartender was told to make it! homemade doesn't come out of a bottle! Well, the wife and I finally tried the newest, hip place in town and we're quite disappointed. It's sad such a cool place is doing such a poor job of preparing and serving good food. We were there on a pretty busy Friday night around 6:30. We were in a party of 12 and expected a longer wait for food than normal so we ordered a couple of appetizers. The appetizers arrived after a 25 minute wait and were quite bland. Some of the food arrived shortly after, along with the salads that were expected "pre-food". After an awkward wait the people with food were encouraged to proceed. The remaining food became so late that another apetizer was brought in, still bland, and then finally the remaining food items. We had everything from steaks to sandwiches and no one was very positive about their choice. Mediocre food and fresh out of high school servers rounded out the disappointing evening.
