Saw a post on FB about 1836 Cafe, so my DIL & I decided on a breakfast roadtrip... what a wonderful decision. 1836 Cafe is everything you imagine if the words "hole in a wall greasy spoon" are used. Small interior offering 4 tables and a line up of bar stools. The kitchen and pantry are fully exposed. We were greeted by a gent opening the door for us and friendly hellos! The menu provides a wide selection of country fair with twists on cosmopolitan selections (the country bennie is a must). No pre-cut fries on site,! Everything looked and tastes freshly prepared. I wasn't sure what to expect from this tiny little cafe, but I sure was impressed. We ordered takeaway burgers and a separate side of sausage gravy. The gravy is made like your southern gramma made it with the flour browned a bit to give it flavor. The burgers? I don't usually eat the bun but made an exception for this one after the first bite. The meat itself was flavorful and not like the frozen patties you find at a lot of places. Don't skip the chips: they are perfectly seasoned. We had carry out so that was the extent of our service, but they were friendly. read more

1836 is the best breakfast AND lunch in Bells, and probably all of Texoma. Homemade biscuits that will knock your socks off (try the jalapeño cheddar), and homemade giant CINNAMON ROLLS the size of your head, not to mention perfectly cooked eggs, a killer sausage blend, and a rotating cast of specials that just get better and better. Try the pork chops and thank me later. I don't even like pork chops, but I'll eat them here because they are PERFECT. I'll usually get the biscuits and gravy (with an extra order of sausage to crumble in, yum) but their pancakes are also my favorite. Okay honestly, it's impossible to choose a favorite when it's all delicious. Even the coffee is stellar. We go literally every weekend. The service is excellent, probably because it's staffed and run by exclusively awesome people who serve exclusively awesome food. It can get cramped and stuffy in there sometimes, but that's what the comfy picnic tables are for on their covered porch outside. You'll be eating too well to care anyway, and if you do have to wait, there's a perfect swing to hang out on with your honey. :) A stellar hole in the wall run by a truly wonderful family and a whole host of rad folks. Had the pleasure of having breakfast this morning at 1836 Cafe In Bells TX. if you're ever between Bonham and Sherman you have to stop here and eat!!! One of the best Chicken Fried Steaks I've ever had. The sausage gravy made it super rich and flavorful. We got a Pecan Cinnamon Roll to go and had it for an evening snack. Breakfast and lunch all week and Dinner on Thursday and Friday. Great service, great people, and great food!! Check them out!! read more

Hole in the wall - some of the best burgers I've ever had. Small inside but worth it!

Food was amazing. I watched them make my crab cake Benedict from scratch and it was amazing. Love how they cooked the country potatos. Service was amazing. Was checked in on many times and got my food and everything I asked for very fast. The ambiance was amazing. Decided to take stroll to find this gem. Simple menu and delicious. I got the chicken and waffles with a side of flapjacks. It came with a choice of sausage or bacon. The sausage was delicious. The flapjacks were fantastic. The waitress is here was definitely hospitable. Nice to see kind people showing that southern hospitality. Definitely will be back to try the burgers. read more

I first met the owners of 1836 when I started working at The Loft Pizza Pub. I had already heard wonderful things about the Cafe's food & people prior & after talks with them it's obvious the love they poor into their business as a whole. Their quaint Cafe is welcoming & filled with the most delicious smells of homemade food. I have honestly never read the menu so when I called in my 1st order I asked for the Chef's favorite breakfast item...THE BETTY & it did NOT disappoint. Some of the best fried potatoes I've had. Today I needed to stop in somewhere and wait for a locksmith and had 3 hours to kill. I found this lunch spot in Bells and if you don't know... there's not a ton to choose from! However, as soon as I walked in I was greeted with friendly hello's and the smell of the grill firing up. I got the chicken sandwich, which sounds basic, but it was absolutely not. Soooo amazing. Fries were seasoned and perfect. At the end they brought me a homemade chocolate chip cookie that was equally as good as everything else I tried. I'll absolutely be back and hopefully take advantage of complementary mimosas on the weekends! Definitely a Bells gem. read more

YUMMO! Today my family was out with my dad exploring and came across a little gem! Nikki and crew do a fabulous job of making you feel welcome to this wonderful little highway diner in Bells! From the amazing cinnamon rolls to the til 2pm breakfast to the perfect hamburger - something for everyone. Not just any little diner, Nikki and Hubs have a long culinary background and make and bake in-house nearly everything from scratch including delicious potato chips and all the specialty baked goods. You can taste every bite is full of whole goodness. Check out my burger in the photo with that squishy delishy bun (one of the very few things that are not made in house). I enjoyed that burger and fries so much I had a hard time sharing (and I don't usually even eat bread!!!) We look forward to our next time out in that area. THEY CATER EVENTS TOO - oh my! I eat lunch there at least once a month. Locally owned, and run by owners. I get the Old Fashion Burger on the jalapeño bun. Best burger I have found. The hand cut fries are excellent. It's a two napkin lunch! Only draw back. The cook & owner is cranky. read more

We went for breakfast and food and service were great! Biscuits were fluffy, sausage was delicious and eggs were cooked perfectly. You just need to know this is a very small storage type building with not the greatest ventilation so it strongly smells like cooking oil and grease. Next time if the weather is good I would sit outside on one of the picnic tables or order online to go. But definitely will be a next time as it was that good. read more

Bikers - check this out! Just passed this little Shack and made a u-turn to go back. Glad I did. Had the biscuit with gravy, sausage, and fried egg on top. Came with potatoes but didn't eat those - the other was so good. I actually couldn't finish the whole thing. I will say this about the service - from the time I stepped in to the time I left the staff was smiling and friendly. Actually sought out the owner and asked if these staff members were family. He assured me they were not; just good employees. If your looking for ambiance or fancy don't come. It what I call a shack and the inside is unfinished but quaint. I'm glad I stopped here. We moved to the area in September 2021 and I was finally able to visit 1836 a couple of months later. The food was delicious and the owners, who run it, were very nice. I had my mobility service dog, a Great Pyrenees, with me and I didn't have any difficulties navigating. We went at about 11 am, before the lunch hour rush started. The only negative I have found is that I had no clue it was a restaurant until my parents visited it. The most prominent sign only has the name, 1836, on it which I thought was the building number. There is a smaller sign on the side of the building that says it is a restaurant, but it's very difficult to see as you're driving by. Overall, I'm glad we found it! It's in a great location, not far from the 69 & 82 intersection. I highly recommend it!!! read more

Great food at a good price. While I have not had anything bad here, some items are better than the others. For breakfast you gotta go with the BET and for lunch you should try the daily special.
