My hometown... Sherman, Texas! Born and raised there. Love that place. It's been sad to see the once vibrant downtown decline over the years to what it is now as businesses have moved to the "new" Hwy. 75 corridor. But, some forward thinking Sherman native investors took hold of one of downtown's corner buildings and turned it into a fun and inviting place. We'd been keeping an eye on its restoration progress since they started. One day recently we were chasing a severe thunderstorm near Sherman and also wanted to go by and see how the place was coming along. It was 3:30 on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Much to our surprise it was "open!" Went in and instantly fell in love with the place. Loved what they'd done to it! All the staff was very friendly. The waitress explained to us that they'd opened up about a week ago but it was a disastrous opening because the kitchen wasn't ready to handle the demand. So, they "shut it down" to fix things. The kitchen manager came out to say "howdy" to us and brought us free samples of food all of which were excellent. She profusely apologized for the disasters that'd happened during their opening week and promised that when they do open that things will be totally different. We believed her. I told her that it didn't matter to me because any wait for the food would be worth it because it was such a great place that brought back a lot of wonderful memories for me. So friend, if you have a problem with your food arriving a bit too late as they work out their newness... suck it up buttercup and enjoy the fact that downtown Sherman has a first class place that's going to be great if not already. Best service experience I have had in a VERY long time. Luis was our server and he was amazing! Our table sated bussed the whole time and drinks stayed full. Tried it for first time today staff was friendly had the chicken street tacos they were dry and not seasoned very well. The bacon wrapped jalapenos were good nice and spicy. A little over priced for size of portions. Just a average experience. read more

We loved this place!! Monkey Balls were scrumptious and our perfect server Darius was "delightful". So happy to have a place like this in Sherman. Burgers were good, buns less so. Fries yummy but could have been hotter. Meatloaf above average and mashed potatoes with bacon grease gravy should be on everybody's list to try out. Coconut and pineapple cream pie that Darius recommended also should not be missed. People who have posted negative reviews need to give this place another try. We came on a Sunday about 5. I can't understand why this place only has three stars. 1. I love the atmosphere! The decor is great and it's so relaxed. 2. The menu is fun and creative. 3. Everything I've had on the menu has been good. Not everything is great, but everything is good. 4. The staff is incredibly friendly and the chefs, generous! Once I went and they'd run out of the appetizer I wanted, so I asked for a side of fries with wing sauce, and they brought out a tray of ALL their sauces. 5. The beer selection is on point. 6. Great place to take your family or your business guests. I prefer to visit during lunch as their lunch cook seems to be a bit better than their evening cook. You have to try their Jalapeno Cream Cheese burger with fries. There is not a better burger out there. Their chips and salsa are okay but I have had better. Their mac and cheese is delicious also. Besides the location and atmosphere, I would describe the place as lacking. Lacking especially in service and waiters. We had to wait at least 15 minutes before being noticed by the 2 servers. Keep in mind that they were not busy, with only 8 or so groups being served at the time of our visit, at about 1 o'clock in the afternoon. The food is nothing to write home about with average recipes and nothing inventive. If you're looking for a good pub or bar, try either Cellarman's, City Limits, or, my favorite, Loose Wheels. read more

We were passing through Sherman and stumbled upon this wonderful place. We were traveling with our small kids and are usually hesitant about trying new places since kids can sometimes act wild. The staff here made our kids feel right at home. The service was perfect and the food exceeded every expectation. Even my picky kids loved the food. I would highly recommend checking these guys out. It's nice to find a place these days that treats customers like people and not a paycheck. We can't wait to get back and look forward to stopping here anytime we travel near. read more

My husband and I were excited to see a new place downtown but were nervous to try Old Iron Post after reading all of the reviews. We decided to give it a shot considering most people don't take the time to write good reviews these days. So we tried it and were actually impressed. It's been remodeled nicely. There was a live band. And the service and food was better than expected after reading the reviews. I had the chicken street tacos, they were good. Chicken was a little bland for me but that's because I like my food spicy. Probably perfect for the average person. My husband had the chicken fried steak and was very pleased with it and tried his best to eat it all. It was huge. I also had a margarita which was good, and I'm VERY picky with my margaritas. We will go back and we do recommend you give it a try yourself, regardless of the bad reviews. I have been to OIP a few times and have yet to be impressed. The food is ok and drinks ok but nothing that makes me want to go there.

We ended up here when one of our favorite restaurants was closed. Didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. Our food was very tasty and appetizing. I had the 'supreme' salad and my husband had the 'porker' pork sandwich...both were delicious! The wine was good and the atmosphere on the patio was great. The service was slow but nice. For manager Steve W' s consideration in regard to the review from Keri A. You missed the point completely. First, your bartender treated your customer rudely. One with appropriate skills should be able to diplomatically point out a traffic issue without the need to make a power play. An apology and guarantee of follow up with your staff would have made a much better statement. Secondly, since you do have a dreadful traffic set up--people, like electricity, take the quickest route no matter where their destination-- you would do well to note the very generous recommendation from Keri that you use appropriate signage or invest in a swing bartop to make it completely clear that there is no through traffic. Even a rope would work. Keep your eye on the right ball, sir, and perhaps your business will one day finally begin to grow. read more

I've always heard that the food here wasn't really good. I was there and pretty hungry and decided to get the beef nachos. I mean how can you screw up nachos? They tasted fine. About an hour or so after eating them, I noticed a rumble in my gut. I went on with my night, with some serious gas. It wasn't until I decided to have a midnight snack that all of a sudden it felt like my stomach was in a vice and the bottom dropped out, if you know what I'm saying. Nothing like getting violently ill from some nachos that 'no one can screw up'. It's been around 20 hours since I ate there and my stomach still feels like it's in the vice. No more projectile fluids, just bad cramps that won't go away. I hadn't eaten anything else yesterday so I know it had to be the nachos. Needless to say I won't be eating there anymore. I should have listened to the handful of people that told me that the food wasn't good. Welp I found out the hard way. read more

Well had high hopes from other reviews yet was immensely disappointed. All the real street-tacos I've eaten over past 40+ years in over dozen+ Latin American countries on the streets, in cafes & in actual restaurants, were almost always shredded beef. Their ground beef would have sufficed yet is was mediocre at the best. After eating two meals there three months after opening, I don't have much good to say. Meatloaf was just okay. The potatoes and creamed spinach that came with it were not edible. The potatoes had a funky sweet flavor and were shriveled, hard chunks. My daughter, who will eat any mac and cheese you put in front of her, wouldn't touch theirs after the first bite. I did have a great hot dog there right after they first opened, and the bar is pretty good, considering what the town has to offer in that area. We had such high hopes for this place as we watched the transformation from ugly office supply store to a beautiful historic gem. If you just want to have a beer, it's great, but go elsewhere for food. read more

All of the food was great, along with the service. The monkey balls were delicious, and so were all of our sides. I absolutely loved the grilled pineapple and mushroom skewer. The only complaint is that I ordered honey mustard chicken, and I am not sure what kind of honey mustard that was. It was dark brown, and very spicy and had no honey mustard flavor at all. My stomach can't handle spicy food, so after one bite I had to stop eating. I ordered it because honey mustard is usually sweet. If it was going to be different, I wish the menu description could have explained that so I knew ahead of time. read more

Took the waitress, Nikki, 10 minutes to recognize us. Charged full price ($2.19) for a kids drink, we also ordered a shrimp poboy that had 5 small shrimp on it. For the second time in as many months, I've been sorely disappointed in OIP. My wife and I went there on a Wednesday evening about a month ago. I ordered the pork sandwich and fries which was ok. Wife ordered the BLT with extra crispy bacon. She's ordered this in the past and it was great. This time was a different story. Bacon was just not cooked completely. She sent it back and about a minute later the waitress returns and it doesn't look any different. Very apparent that no attempt had been made to cook it more. My wife just said fine I'll just eat the veggies but after taking the bacon off she found apiece of lettuce about the size of half a dollar bill and a thin tomato the size of a quarter. She didn't eat and just got up and left. My second bad experience was just a couple of weeks ago when I met a business client there on a Monday for lunch. The client loves chicken fried steak and I promised her OIP had the best in Sherman. So we both ordered it, the waiter commended us on our good choice. About 5 minutes later he comes back to the table to tell us they were out of chicken fried steak. I was so embarrassed and my client (from out of town) was definitely disappointed. It never occurred to me to call and make sure they weren't out of food. This could be a great restaurant if more attention was paid to the food. I won't be bringing any clients or my wife back to OIP anymore. read more

We had food delivered via Texoma Delivery Service. So my review will be simply on the food, the taste, and if it was how we ordered it. We ordered chips and queso as an appetizer. Chips were good, queso was not. It tasted like the jarred grocery store kind from Fritos company. Didn't like it at all. Hubby got chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and white gravy. The cfs was overly cooked, rubbery in the middle, and tough on the outside. The white gravy was horrible! We choked on the heavy amount of black pepper in the gravy, all you could taste was pepper! Coleslaw was ok. Nothing fancy or tasty, or anything we need to eat again. Mashed potatoes were good, and actually homemade, an easy to prepare item. I ordered the ribeye, MEDIUM cooked. What I got was a disgusting burnt hunk of meat on the outside, cold and bloody in the middle. PLEASE SEE MY PICTURES IF YOU WANT TO SEE. It was not edible at all. I ordered mashed potatoes as well. My daughter had Mac n cheese. They make the Mac with spicy cheese, so my 3 yr old didn't like it. I wish this was noted on the menu, since it's typically something kids order. Many kids don't like hot spice, certainly not toddlers. Because my steak was inedible, we had to call Texoma delivery back, per their policy. They wanted the steak back, I'm not sure why, and said they'd bring a new meal. I guess they didn't believe me? However, they only replaced the meat, and not the sides. So when I returned the entire "to go" box to them of all the food and sides, all I got back was a replacement meat. So my family ate without me, and I finally was left to eat a hunk of unimpressive meat alone. We were excited to try this place, but will not be returning, or ordering from them again. We do love Texoma delivery though, and will have them deliver to us again for sure. read more

My husband and I visited for a late lunch. We really loved the atmosphere but it was very loud. The service was good but on the slow side. We ordered the chicken fried steak and it was very good but did not have Texas toast as a side. Texas toast is a must have when you have Chicken Fried Steak! Love that the owners invested into Sherman and downtown! I hate to see how Sherman has declined in business and just overall pride and cleanliness around town. This place has really gone down hill in the past several months. My wife and I dine here at least twice a month and usually on Sundays. It's been pretty empty and the service has still just not been what is needs to be, I shouldn't have to grab our own menus and silverware. The owners spent a lot of money to renovate this great old space and turned it into a beautiful establishment. They forgot to put some money into menu development and into their food. We ate there for lunch today after the arts festival and the food was very disappointing. The Pepperoni Burger looked and tasted like a Sam's club hamburger patty on a Kroger bun that had been smashed to look flat (that was odd). We would have liked to have known that the sweet potato fries were seasoned with cinnamon and a lot of sugar before we ordered them. They were also over cooked. The side salad was fresh with some nice mixed greens, cheese, cherry tomatoes and a sprinkling of bacon with some very bland croutons. The taco soup was fair but nothing to write home about. Three quarters of our food went uneaten and our waitress did not even ask why. She was good though and I think she knew why....it probably isn't the first time she has seen people not eat the disappointing food. It looked like they had a good selection of micro-brews and other beers. I suspect it would be a great place to drink all night. And after all, drunk people don't care what their food tastes like. read more

The best thing about this restaurant is the patio/location. Everything else is lacking. No one wiped off any of the outside patio tables during our 2-hour stay. Our table was sticky from the drinks and food before, but no one offered to wipe it clean. Drinks are decent. We waited almost 45 minutes for a club sandwich meal. The wait staff also like to congregate by the bar and hang out with each other instead of waiting on tables which is a little sloppy, in my opinion. I will probably not return, and it is sad to have such a great patio spot wasted on a place like this. read more
