    the interior of a restaurant

You know you are in a rough part of town when you walk into a convenience store and there is a bulletproof glass-encased Western Union check cashing booth, a large array of malt liquor selections but only one kind of White Claw, and an employee and customer are having an open conversation about crystal meth and how it alters your appearance. But tucked away inside this dilapidated part of east Burlington is a true diamond in the rough: Old Fogies. OF is very cute, is run by a very cheerful and helpful staff, and serves up a fine lunch. I ordered a Reuben with potato salad and a sweet tea. The Reuben was beautiful, with a flat and crispy exterior and a warm and tasty interior. Either they have a sandwich maker appliance or the sandwich maker person is a sandwich grilling master. It was delicious. Note: they put dijon mustard on it instead of the traditional thousand island. The potato salad was very good. A bit mild (nothing Texas Pete couldn't fix), though, but it had a delightful texture. The potatoes (red skin) were perfect--not too hard and not too soft--and very tasty. The sweet tea was excellent--a perfect amount of both tea and sugar. Just a fine sweet tea. I asked for a sample of the chicken salad, and it was EXCELLENT. A chicken salad melt from OF would surely be award winning. Maybe next time... OF is a really neat place. And from my experience, it lives up to its name. I am 50 and was easily the youngest customer in the place. I think that the pace, atmosphere, items on their somewhat limited menu appeal to members of the Silent Generation, the Baby Boomers, and perhaps some of Generation X. I do NOT see this place having a huge appeal to hipsters or millennials, or, thankfully, to hipster millennials, the most obnoxiously pretentious humans ever described in the annals of anthropology. Worth noting: I actually found this place by typing "hot dogs" in the Yelp search. They don't have hot dogs. They have mostly sandwiches. And no fries. Fortunately I knew this ahead of time because I looked at the menu. This is one of those places that charmed me so much that I can't stop thinking about it. Definitely worth a visit...if you're old enough.

I had heard their chicken salad was really good, so I ordered a scoop of that too, it is really good and I strongly recommend it.

My husband and I ordered in the restaurant, but they do have a digital drive thru for online pick up orders. We went a little after noon and the line was somewhat long, but the staff worked quickly to make their way through everyone's orders. I created my own Grains Bowl with half saffron basmati rice, half supergreens, traditional hummus, half grilled steak, half roasted vegetables, fiery broccoli, fire roasted corn, avocado, tomato & cucumber, Persian cucumber, shredded romaine, crumbled feta, and Greek vinaigrette (on the side). I also got a side of the hot harissa pita chips. It took maybe 15 minutes from when we entered Cava to when we sat down with our food. The food was fresh and blended well together. It was my first time trying the steak and it was absolutely delicious. I loved the pita chips too. I was a little hesitant that they would be too spicy, but they weren't at all. They were crunchy, warm, and with a hint of the harissa flavor - which was perfect to me. Pita chips feel like a must now with all Cava entrees. Restaurant was clean, bright, and buzzing with activity. The staff were friendly, but very concentrated on making sure everything was correct. The line to order was to the door when we ended up leaving. Parking is not an issue here because it's in a big shopping center. Cava is my go to place in Greensboro, so I'm excited it's closer to home now. Everyone should go show Cava some support and expect to be patient since the employees are brand new.

There was an employee there chit chatting with a customer while we waited. She then walked away and said someone would be with us shortly. The stand was unattended and we weren't even sure we were in the correct spot. The opposite lot was full so we parked on the south side and thankfully got it right. It would be helpful to mark the entrance in case we parked the opposite side. The turn in going south has one turn on the opposite end. Plenty of parking. The place looks brand new: nice decor. Server Chelsea was very nice and helpful. She got a chicken pasta Alfredo and I got a shrimp and crab cake sandwich. The pasta was way overdone and mushy. It was even very watery. The chicken was sweet. Sweet chicken and Alfredo was pretty terrible. They said all the chicken has the sweet marinade. They should have specified that on the menu because we would have never ordered sweet chicken especially not with Alfredo sauce. The dish in my opinion was pretty bad. I would give that a 1.5/5. Mine was decent. I liked the dill sauce. The bun was sweet and small for the patty but it was ok. The fries were over salted but they came out piping hot and fresh. Would I eat there again? Probably not. It's a small menu with a lot of chicken dishes. Their signature sweet chicken sauce was a turn off for both of us. It was reasonably priced and the server was nice. Overall I have to give the place a 3.5/5. The waiting when we went in and having ro listen to an employee chatting with her friend was off putting while we waited. Had she acknowledged and said someone was coming would have been fine but she completely ignored us until she finished her conversation before saying anything and that was a good 2-3 minutes. The food was a 2.5/5 and the service from Chelsea was excellent. I can't say the same for the lady that ignored us. I give it a 3/5 for that reason. Rounding it up to 4 only because it was so clean and Chelsea's attendance

My husband got up from the table and took his back for a total refund so we went downhill fast since he wanted tomato soup and they were fresh out. What my husband received looked like a portion from a kids menu. He ordered a grilled cheese with ham and that half of a sandwich was 7.78 with a thin slice of ham that was 2.80 extra. Pretty crazy! I recently stopped in for lunch while visiting my niece at Elon and really enjoyed the experience! The atmosphere is very casual.. you place your order at the front counter and then grab a soda or iced tea from the self-serve soda fountain and a table while they prepare your plate. Our meals were freshly made and incredibly tasty. I ordered the hummus and falafel sandwich ($10), a generous portion of freshly-made falafel and regular hummus topped off with lettuce and tomato served in a pita, which was delicious and very filling. Just a heads up -- it's a little messy to eat since the hummus broke out of the bottom of the pita. Portions are reasonable for the price and the freshness of the ingredients was obvious. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the staff could be a little friendlier, but the food quality definitely makes it worth a visit while you're near campus. PRO TIP #1: Bonus points for the small sauce and pickled vegetables bar available to patrons no matter whether they grab one of the handful of small tables to enjoy their meal in-house or take their orders to enjoy elsewhere. PRO TIP #2: Mediterranean Deli doesn't have a private parking lot, but there's plenty of free on-street parking on Williamson Avenue and Lebanon Avenue.
