Dinner in Kaka'ako, Honolulu, Hawai'i... My sister and I parked at the SALT parking structure where the first hour is free. We went to one restaurant which was too crowded and noisy, so we left. I looked at my Yelp app and found Okome. It's on the ground level - and it used to be Redfin. Inside, Okome was clean, spacious, and bright. We were able to choose our own table and order from the tablet. Service was very pleasant and friendly. Our water glasses were filled without our asking. We shared the: 1. shoyu garlic chicken wings with fries - they were just okay. 2. Okome Tendon - a tempura bowl - with a bed of rice. My sister ate most of this and liked it. 3. Tempura udon - I liked it! Three pieces of Tempura were served on the side - shrimp, sweet potato, and pumpkin. 4. Mandoo (6-pieces) - crispy on the outside and glass noodles on the inside... yummy! Overall, a great experience!

This new place took over the redfish poke space in the SALT complex. It's super ono! I got the volcano bowl with ahi, which is basically a two type poke bowl with one piece of shrimp tempura. It was delicious and the tempura batter was bomb. Rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Portion was a bit small for the price ($20) imo, but it was enough food for me. The space is nice and clean and I liked that you could order self-serve through an iPad or with the host. Food came out quick and service was friendly. There's plenty of seating inside, but I opted to eat outside at one of the shaded tables in the courtyard. Def worth a visit if you're in the area.

Decent tendon and a good option in SALT. Came here on a weekend and there were people doing takeout, as well as a couple of other tables sitting, but it was easy to get in. You order everything on tablets. The tempura was decent and crunchy, but not the best tempura I've had (high bar in Hawaii though!). Would come by again if I was hungry and at SALT, but wouldn't seek it out.

The ginger ahi and spicy salmon combo was mayjaahhh. Okome's poke is fresh and packed with flavor and served over a bed of rice ($1.00 more for sushi rice). You can dine in or order to go using the kiosks on the left hand side of the entrance.

Newish spot at SALT. There's been a few turnovers in this specific store so hopefully, they stay long-term. Food - 5/5 Ambiance - 5/5 Service - 10/5 We came out on a Sunday and didn't realize they were closed already. We walked in 10 min past closing. But they allowed us to order for take out. Much Mahalo! The inside is clean and inviting. Ordering is easy via self order kiosk. Food is great. Service is even better. As you guys know, some establishment would not entertain guests after hours and for some that do, they may give you an attitude. Well the staff here were graceful and accommodating. This is definitely the Aloha spirit and it is much appreciated!! Food is great as well. We tried a few items including the Hawaiian tendon. One caveat is if you get it for take out, eat it ASAP as the tempura may get soggy. For best experience, just get it for dine in or eat it at one of the out door seating areas at SALT. The food was tasty and poke fresh. We'll definitely come back!

This tendon and poke spot is located at Salt Kakaako. It took over the space that was Redfish. It's a self service restaurant. You order at the kiosk right when you walk in. They call your name when your food is ready and you pick it up at the counter. We got the Hawaiian Tendon with ginger ahi $24.75 plus a piece of fried oyster $2, Sukiyaki Udon $12.75, chicken karaage $3.75 and a can of Oahu Coffee Vanilla Latte $5. The sukiyaki udon was excellent. The broth was perfect. The rice in the tendon bowl was room temperature. The ahi poke was fresh and so good. The tempura items weren't as crispy as I'd like. The bottom on the tempura items were probably soggy from sitting on the rice. The fried oyster on the other hand was really crispy. It was panko breaded instead of using the tempura batter. It was my first time trying the Oahu Coffee in a can. The vanilla latte was just right and I liked it. It comes in other flavors that I want to try one day.

This is a great place to go to when you don't need anything fancy. Actually, now that I think about it, I can't really review this place because it has "Poke" in the name but I didn't try the poke. But I did try their tendon (tendon in Japanese, not in English). Well, no I didn't try that either - I ended up with sukiyaki kimchi udon and sweet potato tempura which hit the spot perfectly. I like to think it counts as tendon because udon has -don in it but... You order and pay at a kiosk. They call your name when your order is ready and you go grab your tray and can sit wherever you want inside to eat your food. There's water that you can serve yourself, and you throw away your own trash. The tables and wooden chairs are very solid and sturdy. Honestly, I am enamored of places like that - very self-service but good hot food. They also have plastic-can coffees from O'ahu Coffee Roasters available to purchase with your order. I was not expecting that! Was a special treat.

Amazing, simple but not simple. First the environment is very cozy and welcoming but spacious. Everything in my bowl tasted amazing the spicy pork has a nice kick to it but it's not overly spicy, the kimchi was good too. The sukiyaki meat was nice and juicy, not dry or chewy. Can't wait to try all of their other delicious items!! Also they have good chopsticks lol Thank you

Discovered this place by accident and it turned out to be pretty good. It's mostly a self service place where you order on multiple tablets on front counter and side wall and you buss your own plates. You can also order in person on an adjacent counter. They said they will call your name when your order is ready but someone brought mine to my table after asking my name. This place is clean and welcoming. It is well lit and there is ample seating. The air conditioning works great. My first impression of the menu was "looks interesting" because of the poke options. My second impression was "hmmm...slightly on the pricey side" when looking at the "Night Specials". I ordered on the tablet which was easy to navigate menus. My order came out in about 5 minutes which seemed quick. The staff working there are friendly and polite. But it's self service so don't expect them to check on you or take away your plates. I ordered the "Recommended" bowl called the Okome Tendon. This bowl includes Shrimp, mushroom, sweet potato, pumpkin, eggplant, shishito, nori and half egg and rice. The first thing I noticed when I bit into the shrimp tempura was how crispy and light the tempura batter was. It had a satisfying crunch. Same with the vegetables. No thick and soggy tempura. Everything tasted flavorful and fresh. The rice however was a bit mushy so I don't know if that was intentional like sushi rice. The portioning of the bowl was just enough to be satisfying but not enough for "kanak attack". There were a couple quirky things I noticed before leaving. One thing was when I disposed of my trash, I noticed the left hole of the trash counter didn't have a trash can underneath so trash was being dumped directly on the floor (see video) -oopsie! I heard earlier, there wasn't a trash can at all inside the place but it got added later. I guess they're still working out the bugs. The other quirk was getting parking validation. The QR codes for the Metropolis parking was on a couple of loose sheets of paper on the counter (one for discount and the other for the parking App). If I didn't think to look for it after my meal, I could have easily walked out. I wish the parking validation was mentioned up front when making the order or receiving the order. Maybe they should post the parking QR code on every table? Yes, I'll be back to try other menu items like poke. Overall, was a pretty good experience but has room for improvement.

    strip of uncut ahi

I went here once during their soft opening. On my second visit today, the quality seems to have gone downhill. Okome makes tendon and poke bowls with a self-service concept where you order on a tablet and pick up your food. I like the convenience and the quick service. There's plenty of seating for dine-in. My first visit I got the tendon and shoyu poke bowl. I was surprised by how crispy the tempura stayed even though we did take out. I thought it was a pretty good flavor and portion for the price. This time, I got the same thing but with spicy ahi. The tempura was noticeably more soggy and oily than last time. The shrimp was overcooked, which was sad cause it's a nice big shrimp. The poke was also a smaller portion, but the last straw was a long strip of fish that looked like it was cut partially into cubes but not fully. I expect more attention to quality especially for this price. It's too bad that the food that had me coming back here a second time was not up to par this time.

Rice to see you... I've been patiently waiting for Okome as soon as I found out, they were taking over Redfish location at SALT. The wife been to the Kapolei location and the menu item seems identical how it is ordered is very different here in Kaka'ako. I'm sure you're able to place order at the service counter what's nice is they have a self ordering kiosk which is a nice option and I did so ordering my Poké bowl and knew exactly what I wanted as soon as I saw it, after placing my order, I casually walked in and was immediately greeted by a gentleman who asked if I had any questions to which I replied. I had placed my order and he said he will call my name when it's ready.. I ordered the Ginger Ahi which comes with white rice and I was told from the staff that is Japanese rice from Fukuoka that the painstakingly put many efforts into preparing this price. I was very excited as you can build your own Poké bowl as it comes basically with just the poke and rice and pickled ginger so with this, I opted to add ginger topping for an additional $2 which did bring the total pretty high to just under $20. The rice is actually prepared like sushi rice which honestly isn't how I like my poke rice but it was cooked perfectly topped with limu and the ginger ahi but that cold ginger onion really made it pop. Inside is very nice and spacious with lots of table seating and counter seats as well all nice and clean and brand new. They do not provide trash cans or bathrooms that would be using what SALT has. It's a very interesting. Minimal concept one that has been done in Japan for many years and hope that this works for them as it's different to have interaction with a staff but always a welcome spot in Kaka'ako. Thank you!

    - recommend trying - Service The ordering system is a mix of modern and minimal: you place your order on an iPad at the entrance, though there's also someone at the counter who can take orders. Beyond that, there aren't additional servers, so the experience leans toward self-service. Food The food was good overall, though my perspective comes with a bit of bias from having tried Tendon Kohaku in Washington state. What makes this spot unique is the option to add poke -- salmon, tuna, or hamachi. I went with the spicy salmon poke, since salmon is my favorite for both poke and sushi. * The tendon itself was tasty, and considering Oʻahu doesn't have many tendon-focused restaurants, it's refreshing to see one here. There's definitely room to grow, but the foundation is solid. * The cabbage salad and miso soup were both satisfying and balanced the meal nicely. * I do wish the poke portion was a little more generous, especially with the total coming out to nearly $30 without drinks or tip. * The rice could use some improvement in texture and flavor. * Overall food rating: 7.5/10. With a few tweaks, this place could really shine and become a standout. Ambiance Located in the heart of Kakaʻako near Moku, the restaurant is easy to access with both street parking and a garage that offers validation. The space itself feels clean and simple, but it could benefit from a bit more brightness and consistency. Music didn't start playing until more guests arrived, which made the earlier atmosphere feel a little quiet and flat. Keeping the vibe warm and welcoming throughout the day would help bring more of that aloha spirit into the dining experience.

TL;DR Fantastic…read morepoke. Manoa represent!!! ----- Off the Hook Poke lives up to the hype. There's a constant line out the door filled with locals and tourists alike. And for good reason. Off the Hook delivers consistent, high-quality poke bowls (trays?) in the heart of beautiful Manoa Valley. I've been coming to Off the Hook since it opened way back in 2018. While the prices have steadily increased, the delicious poke has remained the same. For poke bowls, you have several options to consider: 1) Mini or regular size 2) Rice option (white, brown, sushi, or green salad) 3) One or two choices of poke At this point I've tried almost every one of their poke offerings, and they are all fantastic. You cannot go wrong with whatever you choose. However, I'd say 95% of the time I stick with the Cold Ginger Ahi and the Spicy Ahi. These are guaranteed hits. I also really like the Wasabi Furikake Ahi. Lastly, makes sure you load up on their free toppings! Masago, tempura flakes, and scallions. Yummmy!

Off the Hook advertises auction-fresh ahi, which distinguishes it from other poke joints that use previously frozen fish. Since I was a first-timer, I opted for a sampler: 1/4 # of each of the following: Shoyu Poke, Kilauea Fire, and the signature Cold Ginger Ahi, which my friends have been raving about. All three were good and seasoned perfectly: just the right amount of sauce. My favorite, hands-down, was the Cold Ginger ahi, which pays homage to the Cantonese ginger-scallion sauce served over chicken, and not oily: wonderfully fresh grated ginger in this! Shoyu was also on point: nice sweet umami sauce. Was actually expecting much more spice in the Kilauea Fire, which had a mild chili flavor. Miso gave it depth and richness, making the sauce gochujang-like in flavor. Arguably, the only downside would be the price point: 1LB= $33.99 1/2LB= $16.99 1/4LB= $8.49: expensive, but excellent-quality product, and definitely fresh, with melt-in-the-mouth fish.

They give you a hefty amount of rice and poke with every bowl; I always have some left over every time and their poke flavors are always SO amazing, regardless of what combination you choose (although, I would recommend their Gingah and Spicy Shoyu together). Although I love their bowls, I would absolutely recommend getting their pound of poke deal. You can divvy up the weight of poke any way you want, so usually my husband and I get a quarter of a different flavor poke and just make our rice at home--the only downside to doing this is that you don't get the fun toppings (furikake and crunchy mochi). Also, just a disclaimer, their space is extremely small with limited bar-type seating, so plan to take your bowl/food to go if you want to be comfortable. The only reason why I'm docking 1 star is because unfortunately, some of their toppings are a little too expensive to add on for the amount that you get. Other than that, Ryder's will not disappoint--I promise! I always recommend this Poke Shop to all of our visitors and I'm not stopping now--try Ryder's out if you're in the area!
