Came for a birthday dinner, servers are nice and attentive never had to ask for any refills. Now the server did give the impression that there salsa was spicy but once received it was far from it. I just think there should be a bit more options for people like me who live for spice it literally tasted like canned tomatoes. Had a cheese enchilada that was pretty good but there rice and beans lacked a lot of flavor. Our party was of 20 so maybe that's why stuff wasn't great. I might give this place another try later on but as of now it was just a meh experience read more

Come hungry and early! Ojeda's does lots of chips & salsa the right way, as each table gets their own jug of salsa, so there's never any waiting for refills! The service is prompt, and you may have several waiters taking care of your table. We split two dishes: the Brisket Tacos & the veggie fajitas. The brisket was outstanding! I would 100% recommend ordering that if you are a meat eater. The veggie fajitas were also yummy and had a random assortment of veggies that I wasn't expecting. Each dish comes with the standard side of rice and beans, making the whole meal extremely filling. The rice was a bit dry, but otherwise, everything was great. The place was packed early on a Saturday evening, so I would imagine a line starts to form as the night goes on. read more

Hey everyone, here is my experience with Ojedas. First I want to say I have never had a bad experience before this but.... Upon arrival for brunch (my first time) the hostess was very friendly and smiled. She seated us on the front room in a great booth. Now the server came over and offered no recommendations when I told him it was my first time here for brunch. So my boyfriend and I order what we thought sounds good. I ordered the chorizo eggs and potatoes and he ordered the chorizo burger. We also ordered 2 cocktails. There was no flavoring what so ever on the eggs with chorizo with eggs and the potatoes were actually wet and not crispy. My boyfriends burger was sloppy and tasted ok but nothing to write home about. The server never came back to the table to see if we wanted another cocktail or refill our water. He finally returned with the bill and thank us. So, service 1 out of 5 and foot 2 out of 5. Overall 2 out of 5 for brunch. I do not recommend Brunch with them. read more

1) when they ask large or small say large. (Take this as you will but definitely apply it to your drink order) 2) the spinach and avocado enchiladas verdes are misleading...it's spinach enchiladas with two slices of avocado on top. 3) this is cheap, exactly what you would expect Tex mex 4) this may be circumstantial but don't allow yourselves to be seated next to an overly large birthday party, you won't be able to speak to each other, they will not leave quickly, and one of them may laugh like a hyena during your entire dinner. Update: Margaritas for what you get are absurdly over priced. $10 for a small skinny that's mostly ice and a little bit of tequila and sugar lime juice, $15.50 for a slightly bigger version with even more ice. read more

If you want authentic Tex-Mex food you have to go here. The food is delicious and very filling. The atmosphere is welcoming the staff is great. You definitely feel content when you are done. So if you are in the dallas area go out and try them. read more

We have been coming to this location for over 20 years now and in that time it has remained consistently good. You can always count on the chips to be hot and fresh and the salsa to be spicy and delicious. I especially like the fact that each table gets a small jug of salsa so you don't have to wait for refills. Don't get too full on just that though because the entree portions are large! You also can't go wrong with their frozen margaritas, particularly the swirls. They are always smooth, refreshing and very strong. The atmosphere is festive year round and the service is as friendly as it gets. It does get pretty busy, especially on the weekends so expect a wait at peak times. read more

I use to eat here on a regular basis when I was working at AT&T/Southwestern Bell Telephone. It's still good TexMex and friendly and attentive service!! They've expanded since I was last there. I'll remember them when I'm in that area. read more

first off salsa taste like canned tomato sauce. I asked for a bean, rice and cheese burrito that was too much to ask apparently. We got the veggie and then mixed meat fajitas. Mine was just literally boiled veggies and absolutely no seasoning. Disgusting. The cast iron pan was burning hot and didn't have a glove or anything on the handle burned the crap out of my husbands arm. Blistering now Just a crappy place to eat. 60 worth of food that was terrible. read more

I'm giving 4/5 for the service and speed of delivery, moreso than the food. Atmosphere/Service: On a Friday night this place gets packed very quickly. I was pleasantly surprised with how fast we were seated and taken care of. The server was very friendly and prompt. The food came out in less than 10min. My dad's tea never went below half-full. Food: The food was just okay. It's subpar Tex-mex but for the price you can't beat it! The chips and salsa were very good. Stop hyping this place up. The food was bad and the service was worse. I ordered chicken poblano plate. The chicken was the kind that is breaded in a chicken fried chicken. My husband and I always compare any Mexican food restaurant we ever go to to Ojedas. We consider it the gold standard in terms of taste and price. We always get seated immediately and have wonderful and quick service. I'm obsessed with a chile relleno. There's nothing fancy in terms of the ambience, but there are lots of cute lights, and the place is always full of people. Chips and salsa come to the table immediately. We go here as often as I will let him. read more

Honestly one of the last options I'll consider for Tex-Mex in the area. With El Fenix, Uncle Julio's, Gloria's and Mario's on Lemmon offering the same fare at comparable $ this place just both underwhelms and under-delivers. The pros of my late lunch visit was the $5 HH margarita tasty but little alcohol, vegetarian (boiled beans option) & good service. The cons- bland tortilla chips/ (el fenix are usually warm & crispy) bland watery salsa- it seriously taste like tomatoes and garlic- probably the worst I've had but just my opinion and small portion sizes. At $15.00 including HH drink but no tip I was seriously still hungry lol. My number one pet peeve is leaving hungry after spending $15 on lunch. I know $15 isn't much but I do expect to be full well until dinnertime, which shouldn't be too hard considering Mexican fare usually includes (chips/salsa as appetizers). The verdict? Unfortunately, there are too many similar options in the same area with a lot more bang for the buck i.e. - extensive HH & Lunch special that will deter my urge to return. read more

I've come here many times in the past over 20+ years, it used to be OK but now it's just generic. I know that this is a family restaurant with family recipes however, Over the years, it seems like something has changed. Attention to detail to the flavor of the food. I can't put my finger on it, only that it has changed. The enchiladas and the sauce was like mush, soggy and running. The salsa is bland with no flavor whatsoever, it was basically liquid. The Charro beans was OK but the rice had absolutely no flavor. The restaurant itself seem dirty. The booth was uncomfortable. I was sitting on springs no cushion. With the economy, the way it is today and their prices you're not getting Anything special for what you pay for. The atmosphere is festive and fine, but the food is not comparable to what you could get from a smaller individual restaurant. There are way too many other Mexican restaurants in Dallas that you could go to to get much better food than this. Try Mia's or Uncle Julios instead, or any number of other smaller family owned restaurants. read more

It's about to go down @Ojedas with the fam. Decided to come out after having a great time at the Elm Street Invasion car show. So many choices. I love the atmosphere, true Dallas, Tex Mex culture. Music is nice and all of the wait staff, bar keep, host/hostesses make you feel truly warm and welcome. Food tastes as awesome and spicy as expected. I've been coming here for years (20?) And I still love it today as I did all those years ago. It's not 'gourmet', but it's delicious, basic texmex at its finest. You'll have chips and dip (the most delicious salsa in the metroplex and fantastic warm home made chips) on your table within 60 seconds of sitting down and drinks within 2 minutes. It's no-messin' classic food and the drinks are strong and delicious. Get the shredded chicken chimichanga and pour some of that salsa on top, and have a couple of swirl margaritas. You'll go home happy. The decor is awesome, the staff is friendly, welcoming and attentive, and the music lets you know it's the real deal. Bring the fam, eat good food, enjoy. read more

Idk what the chefs at Ojedas put in the queso but it is AMAZING. I wasn't that impressed with the "puffed" tacos but everything else was really good. Even the salsa they give you at the beginning is delicious and they leave the containers at your table so you can pour more for yourself whenever you feel like it - how convenient! While we were there, it was the birthday of a woman who honestly looked 100 years old and the wait staff was so nice to her! She got a big sombrero to wear for pictures and it was overall such a delight. One precaution: watch out for the margaritas, they're hella strong read more

I just don't understand why there isn't any hotter salsa. Fine, have the not so spicy one served upon arrival with chips... but why isn't there even an option for anything hotter. Got the "ribeye" fajitas and the beef tacos. The beef tacos looked like wet baby food and were on premade tortillas. The "ribeye" tacos were actually overcooked skirt steak. My white northern mother could cook a better Mexican meal three glasses of wine deep. read more

I did not stay to eat at the restaurant. My order was takeout. I ordered a large menudo. It was flavorful but I have had better. I have had menudo dishes from other restaurants that had various meats cooked in it. This menudo only had tripe and no other meats. It was pretty basic. I wont be ordering from this place again. read more

Ambience and service get a 4, but the food is terrible! This is not authentic Mexican by any stretch of the imagination. American cheese is over everything. The crispy "puffed" corn tortilla is a Taco Bell like hard taco shell. The flour tortillas are basically Mission tortillas from any grocery store. The rice tasted reheated too many times and was crunchy. Everything was greasy. I don't understand any good reviews. This place does not have my vote. read more

Came here for a meat free Mexican meal on a lent Friday. 2 of us had the fish tacos and 2 had mushroom enchiladas. It was pretty good. The chips tasted like they were fried in some not so fresh oil and I'm not sure there was any tequila in the margs. read more

History

Established in 1969.

In 1969, after much hard work and a little bit of savings, Ben Ojeda and his wife Cecilia leased the Peter Pan Grill on the corner of Maple Avenue and Lucas Street in Dallas and opened Ojeda's Mexican Restaurant. Lee Clark, a reporter with Channel 13 news, later found the family restaurant. She then wrote a story in 1971 on the likeable Mom and Pop business who were working with their 9 children, and with that, Ojeda's would soon become the Dallas landmark it is today. With its reputation for tasty Tex-Mex food and atmosphere of home, many famous people have ventured into Ojeda's. The list includes Jack Nicholson, The Dallas Cowboys, Johnny Mathis, Doc Severnson, and, most recently, Dr. Phil and President Bill Clinton. Today, Mama and Papa Ojeda's 8 children along with their 14 nephews & nieces continue to run Ojeda's which has expanded with three more restaurants. Papa Ojeda died in 1989, Mama Ojeda in 2011 but their legacy lives on through their family and Ojeda's patrons.

This is what I would have tipped anyway. I gave my credit card for the waiter to process payment and return. When he brought the receipt back to me, there was nothing to indicate the added tip, but there was a blank space for me to add a tip. Fortunately I had seen the tip on the itemized bill (which was not presented when the receipt came back), and I avoided being duped into double tipping. I find this practice to be deceptive. At a minimum the waiter should have told me clearly that the tip was already included.

The service here was great on my visit. The atmosphere, albeit a little crowded, was comfy. As I do with my first visit at any Tex-Mex joint, I order the combo plate. I was very pleased with it here. The taco was crunchy with nicely seasoned (non-greasy) ground beef and lettuce and cheese served on the side (I told them no tomatoes). The tamale had a wonderful brisket-like filling, although there was a little too much masa for me. The cheese enchilada was filled with actual cheese, which is a good (if not rare) thing these days. The chili con carne topping was wonderful, as was the rice -- which is among the most perfectly cooked that I have ever experienced in a Tex-Mex joint. The refried beans were run-of-the mill. I must say that the enchilada tortillas are firmer than most. Not necessarily bad, but they definitely don't par-fry these things before rolling. I tend to judge Tex-Mex joints by their salsa. If it's served warm, I take points off the board. This stuff is served ice-cold and has a wonderful bite. Bottom line: If I lived here, I'd be a regular. Excellent Tex-Mex.

The service could also be more attentive, since we ran out of water for a bit. Not a bad choice if you're in the area, but maybe do some research beforehand on what people recommend.
