It doesn't matter if it's been weeks, months or even years between visits, I always know what's in store when I come to Ojeda's. There's no such thing as an "off day" here because this place is as consistent as it gets. One of the things that I look forward to the most is their award winning salsa. Even if someone else hadn't given it a blue ribbon, it would still be number 1 to me. Considering the amount of Tex Mex restaurants we have around here, that's a big deal! I also love the fact that they sell jars of it at the front counter to take home. The enchilada dinner I got this time was excellent as well, and that even includes the refried beans. They are my least favorite part of the meal everywhere else and I rarely finish them, but they do something different here that makes them so tasty. Of course a good Tex Mex meal isn't complete without a margarita (or 2)! Watch out though, because the bartenders don't skimp on the alcohol and the tequila has a way of sneaking up on you, especially when the mix is really sweet. The more time that goes by the greater my appreciation grows for this place. After so many positive experiences in the past I know I can rely on more of the same in the future. read more

Yep, we're back to Ojeda's. This time to celebrate our 36th anniversary. After being seated, Desiree, our server introduced herself to us. Since we've been regulars we didn't even have to look at the menu. My wife ordered a #3, puffed taco and I ordered a #10, a puffed taco and a chili relLeno, cheese. While we waited on our entrees, we enjoyed our margaritas and chips and salsa. Ojeda's has the best hot sauce in the metroplex, at least that's our opinion. We've been dining at Ojeda's for over 4 decades. Our entrees were just a they've been forever at Ojeda's, DELICIOUS! We eat out a lot and are always trying new places but Ojeda's has been serving great flavorful food for years /although I love the beef enchiladas w queso and the charro beans in a bowl ( let the church say Amen!I remembered that they served a massive grilled Tilapia with vegetables and awesome sauce for my fish ! Oh it is so delicious and seasoned and cooked to perfection. Of course we started with a cup of queso and warm chips and salsa always tide me over until my entree arrived ! It was happy hour ( we never make it to happy hour) so I had to order frozen strawberry margarita ( small one ) ! It also served as my frozen dessert.. never been a fan of the flan but my dinner companion LOVES their flan( something about the correct consistency ) because if it's bad he would definitely let someone know but it was fantastic as always and I have leftovers for a midnight snack ! I a, posting this here for awareness: I've been coming to this spot since Cinco de Mayo, and I want to start by saying the service has genuinely been great every time, that's not in question. My issue is with a recent visit. I came in for just a drink, like I always do, and this time was told I had to purchase food to be served, due to TABC regulations. I understand and respect TABC rules; they exist for a reason and should absolutely be followed. My problem is that this has never been enforced on any of my previous visits. Every other time, staff took my drink order, I paid, and that was that. The one time this came up was the one time the owner was present. If TABC compliance is the standard, it should be applied consistently by every staff member, every time; not only when ownership happens to be in the building. I'd encourage the business to review their camera footage, since it will show multiple visits where I was served a drink with no food purchase. I also have the receipts to back this up. To be clear, I wouldn't have minded ordering food if I'd been hungry ; I just wasn't, and I've never had an issue getting served a drink alone before. Bottom line: the staff and service have been excellent, and I'd rather deal with them than the owner, who came across as unnecessarily strict in the moment. If that's the standard, it needs to be consistent across the whole team; inconsistent enforcement is what actually creates liability. That tells me this isn't being applied consistently by the staff; it's either not being trained properly, or it's being selectively enforced. If this is genuinely a state law, it needs to be followed every time, by every employee, regardless of who's watching. I told the manager on duty (who identified herself as the owner) to pull the camera footage; it will confirm exactly what I'm describing. I'm posting this for awareness. If this rule hasn't been enforced with me, it likely hasn't been enforced with other customers either, and that's a liability issue for the business, not just a customer service one. The staff have been great to me personally; this is specifically about the lack of consistent training/enforcement around a legal requirement. Because now it's a legal requirement but illegal actions have been done. Heads up: there are two entrances. I accidentally walked into the takeout/to-go counter at first instead of the sit-down entrance, but staff were quick to point me in the right direction. I read beforehand that the margaritas can be strong, and that definitely checked out. The large (16 oz) house margarita packed a punch, so keep that in mind if you're driving or ordering more than one. Chips and salsa came out quickly, and the salsa leans on the hotter side, but it's still very manageable, even for someone like me, as long as you pace yourself before the food arrives. I ordered the brisket tacos, which were excellent and came with rice, beans, and fresh slices of tomato and avocado. Portions were generous, and I definitely left full and happy. This place is amazing! We were starving after a Sunday Funday and were looking for something close by. I knew this place was near. We got there at 915pm. They close at 10pm. They were very welcoming and had no issues. The service was amazing. The BEST salsa. Food came out super fast. I had the beef chimichanga and rice and beans. It was delicious. It might have been the day drinking but I inhaled the meal. My friends had different versions of enchilada meals. Same inhalation of food. Everyone kept saying how good everything tasted. The cheese enchiladas were barely filled, the rice was hard and not cooked through, and the refried beans were soupy. Then came the bill. They added this blank charge for .42. I've been going to Ojedas for over 20 years in Oaklawn. I have always enjoyed each meal. Their consistency to give excellent service, whether they're extremely busy or not at all deserves a 6 star and the food and flavours are outstanding. . The cleanliness of the restaurant deserves a seven star. The wait staff gets a seven star. When I eat here, I feel like I'm eating with my family and friends. Gracias amigos. Ojeda's. Tupinamba. Casa Navarro. Common thread ... family owned/operated and been in Dallas slightly longer than dirt with killer recipes and friendly service. Our group of four adults and two children had a pretty disappointing experience. I ordered the crispy tacos with beef, and I have never in my life had creamy taco meat. It was mixed with something that gave it a strange, unpleasant texture and honestly, it was horrible. The rice that came with it was cold, which didn't help the overall impression. On top of the poor food quality, we were charged an extra $3.50 just for using a debit card, which felt unnecessary and excessive. Then, when we got the check, we noticed that gratuity had been automatically added. With fewer than eight people in our group, that was unexpected and, frankly, felt like poor customer service. Tips should be earned through great food and great service, not automatically assumed. Considering how disappointing the meal was, I suppose the automatic gratuity explains itself. Ojeda's has been in the area for a looong time. This is a staple Tex-Mex within the Dallas area, with this location being the first! The staff is super friendly and attentive. They're always walking around to make sure everyone is doing well. With a dimmed indoor dining area, the restaurant with age has only become homier. Even while busy, the restaurant has ample room and rarely any wait. This is your classic Tex-Mex with chips and salsa to start and heavy portioned entrees. As with most Tex-Mex I opt for the chimichanga, which is almost always too much and I end up taking it home. If you're looking for a good classic Tex-Mex spot with large portions at a great price, then make sure to stop by. read more

I remember I used to really like this place. It was horrible this past weekend. Bland chicken for the fajita tacos that didn't include cheese. The worst margarita I've ever had for $12. And then to top it all off an automatic 20% service charge they didn't mention before I signed the receipt and added an additional tip. AND a 3% fee for using a card! Will NOT be going back. Great traditional ambiance. Service was attentive. The complimentary chips were fresh and the house salsa on the hotter side. I heard about the puffed taco at my hotel and from the Uber driver so was anxious to try it. It was not a hand taco by design. Had to eat with a knife and fork. But it was very good. Similar to a mini taco salad in a flaky shell. The chicken sour cream enchilada was flavorful and rich. But honestly the best thing I had was the charro beans. Last time I was here, it was 2015. Almost ten years later and it's been consistent. I ate everything up because when you live in Nashville now, the level of Tex-Mex or Mexican food in general is very much not what it is in Texas...obviously. Having a swirl, hot chips, spicy salsa and a hot plate of goodness, it really hit the spot. NOTHING has changed, and I'm OK with that because it is your hole in the wall tex-mex restaurant that stays true to what they serve. You have your regulars of locals, so the ambiance feels like you're in the right spot for what you're craving. Like I've stated before in an old review, don't expect to be blown away.
