I believe they have the same menu as I Luv Sushi? Or at least it's pretty close. We went as a party of 2 and weren't able to get a table because the wait was too long. It's a small spot and I'm guessing that they try to use up their space as wisely as possible. There were probably 3 tables open, I'm pretty sure they weren't reserved, that seated 4 but we sat at the bar. This isn't really a complaint but more of a side note. We were able to wait if we wanted to but she said it'd probably be more than half an hour. This was the first time I sat at the bar, it was kinda fun. The chefs were very nice, overall service from everyone was well done minus the part that we never got plates though I did notice everyone else down our side of the bar did have plates. I went with a friend and he knew a few people from work that happened to show up also and sat next to us at the bar, they also didn't get any plates. It's not a huge problem but plates are helpful if you're sharing dishes. One main problem we had was how fast the chefs were trying to prepare the dishes. I understand that most of the restaurant is a bar and as a chef, I would feel pressured from being watched the whole time. For example, one of my favorite rolls is the Sunrise on Second St but here, it didn't look as yummy as I Luv Sushi. I would like to see that they take a little extra time at preparing their dishes but it doesn't really affect the taste of it. Besides that, I think this place is ALMOST as great as I Luv Sushi. I would prefer going there but either is acceptable and great. read more

This is our go to sushi restaurant in Long Beach. The service is usually pretty fast even when crowded. The place is very popular so it usually is pretty full. In the evenings (especially weekends), there sometimes is a wait. As a vegetarian, they have lots of options such as veggie tempura, veggie roll, green machine roll, yellow submarine roll, and crunchy vegetable roll. I love fancy sushi rolls but usually sushi places make the vegetarian options so boring. Just because they are vegetable rolls doesn't mean they have to be so plain. The crunchy vegetable roll is vegetable tempura inside and topped with crunchy flakes. The yellow submarine is the same but topped with mango. The green machine has avocado and veggies inside. They have a good happy hour for certain rolls depending on the day and then beer. **Look on their website they usually have a 20% off coupon that you can print out and use. read more

Before we were to depart for Sushi Studio, my husband paused at the door and said, "Are we going to get sick? It's half-off sushi. Why is it so cheap?" Seeing that no one here has reported having gotten raging, violent, explosive food poisoning after eating here, I figured it was safe. Not only safe, not only fresh but really, really delicious and did I mention the half-off special? It's not a chintzy list, either - it's a full menu with a lot of different options. I was really impressed. The sushi chefs are so friendly, quick and helpful. Had it not been for them, nothing would have gotten done for us. Our waitress went AWOL after we ordered sake, which we never got. We did have a brief sighting when she showed up singing and dancing at someone's birthday table. We'd have been lost without the sushi chef, so I recommend trying to nab a seat at the counter instead of a table. This is a small place packed with tables, too. My brothers and I stopped here on our way to visit our sis in SD and was surprised by the numbers of people. The place is small about an 80 person restaurant so if you don't mind rubbing elbows with your neighbor at the sushi bar, it is cozy. We had a table. Before we sat we were able to enjoy many birthday celebrations where the lights were turned down low, drums and shakers were pulled out along with a tambourine. And someone comes over and presents a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a candle. It was funny and when my brothers had a chance they embarrassed me by telling the waitress it was my B-day (which will be in two weeks). We ordered the spider roll, philly roll, rock & roll, rainbow roll, and American Dragon roll, and one mix sashimi dinner. The total came out to almost $70. The rolls and sushi are fresh, taste good but too pricey. Unless you got cash to throw away I don't recommend you come here often. However, all of us agreed that sushi shouldn't have taken that long to prepare. Regardless of how busy it was there were 5 guys at the sushi bar and twice that number of wait staff plus two hostesses. We waited about 25 min. after we sat to get a bowl of rice and miso soup. Then another 7 minutes to get 2 sushi rolls, and 3 more minutes to get the rest. So unless you have the time to burn and not worried about the throngs of people drooling over your table there is nothing to worry about. In the end before we got out the door the waitress pulls my brother back and tell him that my ice cream was coming. I was so embarrassed. I sat there as they sang and shook their instruments. Then my brothers sat down with me and tried to help me wolf down some really cold and frozen ice cream. We got in our car and with lots of help was able to maneuver the car out of a tight parking lot. read more

Awesome named sushi that I've never seen anywhere else. Like, Sexy Girl, which is a shrimp tempura and jalapeño roll, topped with mango and Sunrise on Second Street, which is spicy shrimp and crab, topped with tuna. Not all their names are over-the-top. You'll see lots of familiar items on the menu. Place has a "young" crowd feel to it, could be of CSLB being around the corner. It's small and the parking is horrible. But it's a fun place to be. Sushi in the Motel Parking lot?! Lol...That's what I said the first time I came here so many years ago!!! The parking situation at this location kinda sucks...NO it REALLY sucks! There is a small lot that is shared with the Motel or you can find street parking in the lil neighborhood across the street, just be careful when crossing PCH as there is no crosswalk... Depending on time there is usually a wait and depending on your party size it can go quick or not. Friday night party of 3 for quickest available. I understand that they seat parties according to size but it's really blows to stand there and wait when you see parties of 2 walk right in and sit down. The sign said "Sushi Bar", it meant to say "Sushi Studio", so don't miss it while you're doing your drive by! A creative menu... owner of I Luv Sushi and 39 Degrees, so you can expect the same thing. The sushi is good, but my gosh it's overpriced! My favorite is probably SUNRISE ON SECOND STREET or S.O.S. But they put masago on top and inside (mixed with the spicy krab salad). Okay, so my BF lives in the LBC....we met up she took my car and my newborn daughter (because I have the car seat etc. and taking it out and putting into her car seemed like rocket science) while I went and got a much needed massage. I took her car and when I was done I called her. She suggested we hook up to switch cars; acquire my daughter and have lunch. Knowing my love affair with sushi....as well as the fact that I could not have sushi while pregnant....she suggested sushi. Her navagation system told me i was like .5 miles from the massage place...so, I readily agreed and off we went. Now, my BF has impecable taste.....and is a total foodie..... so when I pulled up to a motel that looks like it charges by the hour.....with a sushi place in a building that was an after thought I was certain that I had input the wrong address in that fancy navigation thing..... As I got out of the car, she pulled in and advised that I should trust her...ignore the outside and come on in. Boy am I glad I did! We were seated immediately....I guess the sushi gods were smiling on us given the wait I see others have had at this location. We ordered way too much and totally stuffed our faces. There was a role w/ mango & jalapeno....not your usual flavor combo but was quite tasty. The American Dragon role w/ eel on the outside was very flavorful. The escola melted in my mouth. It was a great first sushi experience after the pregnancy and no sushi for nine months. Don't let the motel and crap parking deter you from good, fresh tasty interesting combos in sushi..... 4.5 stars....let's face it while, the motel should not deter you from eating here...it's a bit creepy. read more

First thing you will notice in front of this restaurant is the long line especially on Friday and Saturday nights. It's unbelievable how long the wait was when I got there with my friend. If you are with a party of 2 or 3 your best bet would be to sit at the bar. The wait for tables is just way too long. Overall the rolls here are great. Really big rolls with a load of sauce. Between the two of us we only ordered 3 rolls and we were stuffed. I have to say their sashimi isn't too fresh so i wouln't recommend it if you looking for quality fish. They douse it with sauce to hide the freshness. For birthdays I think they actually dim the entire lights in the restaurant and have the servers and customers chime in to sing to the bday person, which makes the place very lively and entertaining. read more

LOVE sushi studio! Of all of the sushi restaurants I have been to, this is the best. From the outside, it doesn't look like it would be that great but the sushi is AMAZING! Unfortunately as I'm writing this, I'm not sure if it's open yet due to a fire but the owners said they will in the near future. You can find them at the sister restaurant, I Luv Sushi. My only recommendation is to sit at the bar and ask what the sushi chefs recommend. They will guide you through the best sushi experience you may ever have from hand cuts to sashimi. But in case you don't sit barside, try the Spicy Girl, Sexy Girl, Pizza Roll and the Volcano. Don't forget to leave room for some mochi balls and the sparkling sake is so good, you won't stop at one bottle! read more

This place is pretty damn good. I have only been here a couple of times, whenever I am in Long Beach. I have been here to eat for dinner and a lunch. From what I remember, their lunch menu was pretty decent. They had a good selection and also had a good sushi lunch menu. Plus it wasn't priced that much. As for their rolls, I don't really remember them having unique kinds, thus minus one star, but other than that, the service, food and environment place is well worth it. If you like Maki, this is the place to go in Long Beach! This place has the freshest fish and a phenomenal maki menu that makes any other sushi place look cheap. And what I love about this place...it's unpretentious. Because it is in a smaller shacklike building, I find it to be very cozy...one downside...very small inside and can get VERY croweded (especially for lunch!). Every roll from Sushi Studio is excellent. They also have an outstanding selection of sake and beers, and the staff is very inviting. I just wish they would open one in Chicago :( read more

HAPPY HOUR!! I just checked out their happy hour deals with my roomies, and yes, it definitely made me happy! -$2 kirin ichiban draft/$7 pitcher for starters is awesome. If I didn't have to tutor some kids after dinner I would have been alllll over that deal. $6 specialty rolls which vary depending on what day you go. I hit it up today, Tuesday, and the rolls were the Sumo roll, Nine-One-One, and the Lynn special. And these aren't just any old rolls, they are top notch sushi rolls fo sho. I tried the Sumo and it was amazing!! a little too much of the sweet sauce on it, but the sauce itself is good. Next time I'll just tell them to go easy on the sauce. I also had the Lynn, which had crab, shrimp tempura, cream cheese, jalapeno, and avocado I think, and then that whole roll was covered in tempura too. It was pretty damn good, but not as good as the Sumo which I ate first... I just think the Sumo is a hard act to follow. When we got the check, the three of us had spent under $40 altogether. You can't beat that! A few downsides: HORRIBLE parking situation. It gets worse as the evening draws on so come early. I went in around 5 and was seated right away, but when I left at closer to 6 the place was filling up and a waiter was ready to bus our table as soon as we paid. But happy hour ends at 6 anyways, so you should plan on coming early enough to enjoy that for sure! read more

My family and I just ate there a couple days ago... We are sushi fanatics, and we've got some great places in Vegas, where we live. But this... THIS.. WoW! We sat at the bar, the service was great. We got there right at a shift change, but the transition was seamless. The poke was fresh, bright and delicious. The soft shell crab appetizer, the best any of us had had. We had some amazing rolls: nine one one, Sunrise on Second Street, Green Machine (the kids flipped for this and they NEVER go for veggie, i.e. non-fish rolls) a roll that came stacked in a pyramid wrapped in a leaf which was to die for (sorry, :( the name escapes me) and a caterpillar roll. All superb. The kids shared an unagi bowl, which disappeared instantly. I hope I haven't forgotten anything. I read another review that had issues with service...perhaps an off day? Our service was prompt, super friendly and accurate. My only complaint would be that they are too damn far from home :((( read more

Ok, so this place would totally be off of anyone's radar. In fact, the place is just average in price/quality on any given day. But man-oh-man do they have the best sushi happy hour. It is all about that golden hour from 5-6pm where the drink happy hour from 4-6 and the food happy hour from 5-7pm intersect into a heavenly combination of frenzied ordering, chewing, and sake bombing. The rolls and sashimi are high quality and cheap. This place offers a high variety of menu items during the happy hour which really sweetens the deal. The sauces that are laid down on the Tuna carpaccio and the magic mushrooms are out of this world. The bill for 14 people was only $400 with gratuity! read more

I went to Sushi Studio with Boyfriend for dinner a few nights ago. We were seated at the bar promptly and began looking through the very colorful menu. It has a somewhat entertaining comic on it to read while you wait for your food. We ended up ordering as we ate and got tons of rolls. As stated below, it's the generic templates with various cuts of fish and sauces wrapped around the rolls. We opted for different templates so we could be sure to try a little of everything. Lobster Roll - Nothing too special, just a lobster in the roll which was chewy. It was light and not bad, and it was one of the cheaper rolls on the menu too. American Dragon Roll - Yum! The ultimate dragon roll with spicy sauce and spicy shrimp & crab. It gave the roll a sweet kick. I liked it a lot. The sauce was a bit heavy for me since it was a mayo base and it already had eel and avocado on the top, but still very good. Incredible Roll - Spicy salmon, with whitefish tempura. This was okay, it was a little sour and Boyfriend didn't like it as much. I thought it was refreshing and lighter compared to the heavily sauced rolls from above. We also ordered a baked scallop handroll (mistakenly, we originally wanted the spicy scallop but got the mixed up.) It was too heavy for me. It's just baked scallops mixed with mayo like the toppings on a typical BSC roll. Also, some yellowtail and unagi sushi, both of which were fresh. I really want to try to 10SC and the Sexie Girl rolls soon, they sound very interesting. We had a Green Tea Tempura dessert and it was the HIGHLIGHT of the meal. I loved every crispy cold/hot bite lightly drizzled with chocolate. Yum! Will be back again to try more rolls. read more

Yes, as good as it gets! I am sure there are better sushi joints out there but I promise you that you'll spend twice as much. The owner has another place I patron that is pretty good. And it was my favorite until I came here! My friend who introduced me to this place ordered for me: Sunrise on 2nd street and the 10SC Roll. O... M... G... The sunrise roll is hands down the best roll I've ever had. It had all kinds of things goin on while I chewed: It had a delicious sauce, different textures, it was spiking with flavor. I was really impressed. The 10SC roll was good but a bit too garlicy for me. I then ordered the Monkey roll and Sexy Girl roll wich left me pretty darn impressed. The banana in the monkey roll really gives it a unique taste that is both sweet and salty. Delicious. The crunch roll had tempura flakes and it was to die for. I've also had their short ribs, miso soup, and calbi beef sashimi. Which I rate all As... The best part: I spent half of what I spend at nicer sushi places. And I was just as pleased. I'm hooked! I love this place. I love the environment, it's so intimate and cozy. They have such great happy hours. They not only have ONE happy hour, they have TWO! They used to do 3-4 different sushi rolls everyday for their 3-6pm happy hour, but now it's 7-10 different rolls from Mon-Sat 3-6pm. They have also added the additional happy hour from 5-7pm, which now includes some of my favorite rolls for 50% off! Does it get better than that? Yes, the happy hour from 5-7pm also offers 50% off and $2 appetizers and $1 hand rolls! Try S.O.S, Autumn Roll, Sumo, Extreme Crunchy and the Crunchy; they will NOT disappoint. Also, the tempura scallop and calamari is SO good! If you are feeling a little adventurous try the baby octopus, it's actually pretty good. I can't believe I've never written a review for this place! It's my go to sushi in Long Beach! The Ninja lunch special is the best, because you get salad with spicy dressing, miso, and two good and not boring rolls. It's not like you have to go with the CA Roll on this lunch special. They actually give you choices. There are other lunch specials though, like 3 hand rolls. Happy hour is a great deal too. Love the spicy tuna, Philly, Rock n Roll, Eel with cuke, Pacific roll....I haven't had a thing here that I didn't like. The service is terrific too. Awesome happy hour, you can get away feeling full for an affordable price! The best time to go is at 5 so you can take advantage of BOTH Happy Hours; one takes place from 3-6pm and the other from 5-7pm. With that being said, the sushi is "pretty damn good" but I wouldn't call it "amazing" or the best of the sushi world. It still definitely beats the hell out of "fast sushi" (take-out style places) or god-forbid refrigerated sushi (the kind you find at grocery stores). My favorite rolls are: Lynn roll, Yellow Submarine, Veggie Cut Roll, Sexy Girl, Spicy Girl, all for For $5-7 bucks. I find these to be the most flavorful. As far as the appetizers, you can't go wrong with the Chicken Katsu, Agadeshi Tofu, and the Gyoza. As for deserts, I've tried their Green Tea Ice Cream, Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream, and the Pancake Roti -all of which satisfied my sweet tooth. I love coming here during their happy hour specials. I think its only worth it when you come here during those hours! The service is good and they are all very welcoming. My favorite is sexy girl roll. Their seaweed salad is good too, there is a crunch to it and is fresh. Sashmi platter is good because i like the variety and their sauce! The only reason that i didnt give five stars is because of the location...literally next to a motel and the extreme lack of parking spots. Other than that its a great deal and tastes great! Highly recommend going but if u do, make it right before six so that u can get in right when the twighlight specials start, but just meet the rush. P.s. Service was a little slow with drink refills but they took and got us our order in a very decent amount of time. I've been here twice now and the sushi is really good! I really liked the california roll with the baked scallop on top. The sushi and sashimi taste very fresh and look pretty as well. Besides the sushi, the fried green tea ice-cream is really good too. The prices are average but there are really good happy hour deals, ie) buy one roll get one for $1, or $3 appetizers. I've only been here for happy hour because otherwise it is a little out of my price range. The service is really good and all of the staff are friendly and attentive. It does get really crowded though and there has always been a wait the times that I've been. The parking is not good. The lot is small and shares with a motel. The cars are so close togethor so it is hard to navigate. If there are no parking spaces available in the lot, the surrounding area only has 1 hour parking without a permit so you're kind of out of luck. read more

My top picks: Rolls: -Sunrise on second: crab salad and avocado in, tuna, masago, green onion, eel sauce and special sauce on top. My fav! -Lynn special: shrimp, crab salad, avocado, jalapeño, and cream cheese. Deep fried with eel sauce. I never have liked rolls with cream cheese, but I love this one! -911: spicy tuna in, avocado out. Topped with spicy mayo sauce and chili oil. A little spicy, but not too much. -sexie girl: shrimp tempura and jalapeño in, mango out. With eel sauce, tempura crunchies, and masago and green onion on top. Sounds weird, just try it! Appetizers: Tuna poke: perfect marriage of tuna and sauce. Doesn't overwhelm the uber fresh fish. rhythm and blues: seared tuna with deliciousness all around it. calamari: some of the best I've had and dipping sauce is divine. magic mushrooms: baked and stuffed with crab and topped with spicy mayo.
