Rainy afternoon BBQ run turned into one of the best meals we've had in a long time. We swung by to grab food and somehow ended up with a full spread and enough to share with the neighbors. Honestly, every single thing we tried hit. The ribs were dialed in just right. Not falling apart, but that perfect bite where they pull clean off the bone. You can tell they know exactly what they're doing on the pit. Pulled pork was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. But the real standout for me was the burnt pork ends. Absolute game changer. Crispy, caramelized, smoky... slamalamadingdong. I could've eaten a whole tray of those. Brisket was legit. Moist, rich, and packed with that deep smoke flavor you're always hoping for. No dryness at all, and the fat was rendered perfectly. Loved that. Sausage was good, just not my personal favorite. I'm a Louisiana sausage guy so I'm a tough critic there, but it definitely wasn't bad. Sides and extras were on point too. Pickles, onions, mac and cheese, sauce... everything complemented the meat without getting in the way. But those mustard greens? I'd go back just for a tub of that. So good. Slamming. Something about grabbing great BBQ in the rain just made the whole experience even better. If you're anywhere near this place, don't overthink it. Order more than you think you need. I always enjoy this place and the Asian BBQ twist they add to meat smoking! I ordered the brisket plate with Mac and cheese and collard greens and 1/2 pork belly. The meat was exceptional as always but the sides were sub par to poor. The greens were canned, bland, and not even collards- they were mustard greens. The Mac and cheese were tasteless and really dry noodles. They missed this time on the sides but enjoyed the proteins. The service was swift and friendly as usual. My Family members ordered another sausage plate, Mac and cheese, greens, brisket plate, Mac and cheese, greens, brisket sandwich on regular bun, Mac and cheese and turkey sandwich on regular bun,Mac and cheese. Choose both bbq sauce and spicy Asian sauce both were good. All other food items were good. Didn't take long to prepare our food order. Plan to revisit soon to see about sides of greens improving. Holy cow!! Literally!! The beef ribs are the star of the show at this place! Don't get it twisted, these are NOT spare ribs. They are huge! They sell them by the bone and each bone has about 1.5lbs of meat on them. They are perfectly seasoned and almost fall off the bone. You can cut them easily with a plastic knife. The combination of their spicy Asian bbq sauce with the pickled onions and dill pickles was an absolute winner for me! These ribs made me respect Baton Rouge bbq! The sides we tried, Mac n cheese, potato salad, Cole slaw, were average. The greens were actually better than average and I would buy them by themselves. After we got our food and were thoroughly enjoying it, the manager came out to check on us and make sure everything was ok. I'll start with the good. Nothing had a bad flavor or tasted off or old. Everything I ordered was edible and service was good. Nice setup of outdoor eating, but still shielded from the sun. That being said I didn't feel this was BBQ. I've eaten BBQ in many states some known and unknown for it. The smokiness factor was lacking. The bark on the brisket wasn't doing what it's supposed to do. The greens tasted more like meat cooked in pot liquor as opposed to tasting like a vegetable seasoned with meat. The potato salad, while not bad was sweeter than I like mine to be. The sausage was crumbly like the fat to meat ratio was off in it affecting cohesiveness. The chicken made me think baked rather than smoked. What comes to mind is meat that has been cooked sous vide and then finished on a smoker to get a ring, but ultimately ends up without that true smokey flavor of real BBQ. read more

FYI - This restaurant has nothing to do with Migos. I was expecting bad and boujie bbq since Offset is in the name but it was so much more. These people definitely walk it like they talk it. There is no doubt that this is Baton Rouge's best BBQ and is solidly in the top 5 in the state. I have been following the opening of this restaurant for some time. It is right across the street from a restaurant I visit frequently and the anticipation has been building for a long time. Now that it is open, I have been on several Fridays in a row. Why Friday? It is open Friday-Sunday only, which means Friday is my day since I am not frequently in town on weekends. If you have ever had real deal Texas BBQ at places like Hutchin's, Terry Blacks, Lockhart, Lavaca, etc. you will understand the level of BBQ put out by Offset. It is truly BBQ excellence. Brisket is my favorite food on earth and they know what they are doing here. Trust me when I tell you, get brisket and no sides. Brisket and a side of brisket is the way to go. In addition to phenomenal brisket, I have had their jalapeno cheddar sausage, sate sausage, and pork belly burnt ends. We got a big spread ribs, sausage, chicken, brisket, turkey, pork belly, pulled pork, beans, coleslaw, greens, mac & cheese, pickled veggies and bread and everything we tried was spot-on delicious. The sausage had this super unique, incredible flavor. I'm someone who normally does not like turkey at all, but theirs was juicy and shockingly good not dry whatsoever. And the pork belly? This was my first time making it to their location, although I have enjoyed a few pop ups from Off Set. Father's Day called for BBQ, and this was the perfect choice. You order at the window and pick up tbere, tbere is a lot of seating under the cover, and you have access to water, BBQ sauce, and bathrooms. The brisket was our choice today. It was perfectly cooked, falling apart without needing a knife. We all got coleslaw, which was crisp with the right sweetness. I got the Mac n cheese, it was not overly cheesy, rather, it was in a runny cheese sauce. The other side chosen by our party was the beans - i was told they were prepared very sweet, but tasty. Small container style outfit that packs a punch on Government St. Everything was super flavorful, portions pretty good, cost might be a little higher for most but still worth a shot. They do offer a sampler platter for $100 bucks that looks to be real good deal but I don't eat pork so couldn't take advantage of that deal. Not a huge seating area (4 Benches or so) and didn't see if they had seating on the backside. I didn't walk around back to see if there is a bathroom for patrons but we left with dirty hands. The sides aren't even worth getting just go to the Popeyes next door and get your Mac and cheese and something else lol. My second visit in two weeks and I'm hooked. The best brisket this side of the Sabine River. The brisket has a peppery bark , moist, smokey deep flavor just delicious. While their greens need some seasoning, the part that matters the most - the meat - is AMAZING. Tried Offset BBQ today and I must say everything was great that we tried ! Had no side so I can't speak on those as of yet but the ribs were great ! Very meaty, very tender , great Smokey flavor ! The sausage was good , and the chicken was tender , flavorful and not at all dry ! The burnt ends were Very flavorful and tender , so we will definitely be returning to see if they are consistent with everything we had today. So if you're in the area and get a craving for some BBQ , stop in and give them a try , I think you won't be disappointed. Their prices are on par with other local BBQ place's around town . Always like trying new places so after an appointment decided to stop by. Ordered quickly, food came out in about 10 minutes or so. Only outdoor seating but today happened to be rainy, 80 degrees and slightly windy, so almost ideal. Brisket was moist, good bark. Chicken was moist also but bottom almost had too much bark, bordering on almost burnt. Again, chicken meat was good. Chicken skin was strange. Flavor fine but it was cooked to a point where it was near impossible to eat and almost resembled a thick plastic texture. It was more or less inedible. Man and cheese was hot, creamy but lacked any real flavor. Beans were more like a pork and bean than a baked bean. Taste was fine but not what I'd call a true backed bean. Sauces were good, favorable. Banana pudding was fine. Basically banana flavored pudding, no bananas with crushed up wafers on top. That was a bit disappointing. All and all good food. read more
