Don't judge a book by its cover. :) Was in Lacombe, LA to have a little "work" done (see Malinski Dermatology review). Wanted to eat beforehand, and not much was open nearby on a Monday. Looked up the menu on Yelp and decided no place that serves fried okra can be bad. Well-lit, open and low noise level. Plenty of easy parking. Not very busy (did I mention it is Monday in a town of less than 9K people?) and did not have to wait before placing order at counter. Was tempted by banana pudding and wedding cake slices in dessert case but went for food instead. Ordered sloppy joe with fries ($8.50) and a doz wings - 6 Pop's sauce (no idea what I was ordering) and 6 spicy peach BBQ (75 cents/wing special) - with Pepsi Zero over ice. Sat at a one-sided booth near window. All items were brought to the table. Sloppy Joe was HUGE with light cheese and a tangy sauce that reminded me of the elementary school version I haven't been able to recreate, with hints of mustard and catsup. Ample fries with light seasoning salt. Wings were brought in same basket in separate foil sheets (I loved this!). Pop's sauce turns out to be hot sauce (Frank's?) with black pepper and garlic Parm. Very tasty combination. Spicy peach BBQ also had the under workings of a hot sauce, just enough peach and vague notes of BBQ. Needless to say, I had leftovers. But a to go box was graciously offered (before I asked) and everyone was very nice. The only "boo": they were out of collards. Guess I'll have to return.

I was trying to decide between getting a vegetarian plate from Albasha or the Island Nachos (which are loaded with pork) from Secret Lair. You can probably guess which one I chose... I decided Secret Lair mostly because I really like the name Secret Lair - kudos to the person that named this place, and I was far from disappointed. The Island Nachos are not cheap but they are delicious. It basically consists of a massive pile a chips interspersed between layers of queso (I think), black beans, cilantro, pulled pork, and a Jamaican-jerk-tasting barbecue sauce - which I'm going to assume is why they're called Island Nachos. One of the best things about these nachos is that at no point did I end up with a pile of dry chips. The nachos are so throughly dressed with the barbecue sauce, queso, and black beans that every bite of chip also includes a healthy serving of everything else. Try them out if you get the chance, and I don't think you'll regret it!

Rainy afternoon BBQ run turned into one of the best meals we've had in a long time…read more We swung by to grab food and somehow ended up with a full spread and enough to share with the neighbors. Honestly, every single thing we tried hit. The ribs were dialed in just right. Not falling apart, but that perfect bite where they pull clean off the bone. You can tell they know exactly what they're doing on the pit. Pulled pork was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. But the real standout for me was the burnt pork ends. Absolute game changer. Crispy, caramelized, smoky... slamalamadingdong. I could've eaten a whole tray of those. Brisket was legit. Moist, rich, and packed with that deep smoke flavor you're always hoping for. No dryness at all, and the fat was rendered perfectly. Loved that. Sausage was good, just not my personal favorite. I'm a Louisiana sausage guy so I'm a tough critic there, but it definitely wasn't bad. Sides and extras were on point too. Pickles, onions, mac and cheese, sauce... everything complemented the meat without getting in the way. But those mustard greens? I'd go back just for a tub of that. So good. Slamming. Something about grabbing great BBQ in the rain just made the whole experience even better. If you're anywhere near this place, don't overthink it. Order more than you think you need. You'll be glad you did. We'll definitely be back.

I definitely would go all the time if I wanted to eat BBQ. They make it great and also tasty. They also give you a good amount. We tried basically one of everything. The avocado egg/ armadillo egg was good. All of the meats were great and juicy. I highly recommend coming here if you want good bbq for a good price in the Baton Rouge area.
