    Brisket tacos!
    Eric G.

TLDR: Decent BBQ and good service in a eclectic decor. Nothing to complain about. They have jerk chicken on the menu and, being a huge Caribbean foodie and skeptic, I asked to sample the sauce. It was NOT Caribbean jerk flavor at all. Instead, we opted for the chicken combo platter and the brisket tacos... Brisket. Tacos. Did I mention I am a skeptic? The brisket taco came with brisket and cheese on a soft tortilla. The brisket was decently seasoned and the portions were adequate. It was served with chips and salsa which, on top of being really salty, had competing flavor profiles for me so I didn't eat them. The bang for the buck goes to the chicken combo platter that had two leg quarters +2 sides. The chicken was large, well cooked, smoky and tender. Flavor was not as pronounced as I prefer but it was good. Overall, the experience was good.

Mom and I came in for lunch before shopping. We ordered the " infamous" seafood eggrolls and shared a slice of pound cake. The eggrolls were good but I was expected cheesiness. They were stuffed with shrimp and crawfish and the sauce used inside taste like an etouffee, dark roux type goodness. The pound cake...10 out of 10, we had to order a slice of cake to go.

Not bad but not great either. Smoked cabbage was delicious. Ribs were good not fall off the bone. Brisket a little too dense. Smoke flavor was mild. Collard was not good didn't even eat it. They only offer one sauce which would be nice to have an option besides sweet. Also no turkey. Boo. They didn't have banana pudding and that shouldn't ever happen! Nice staff and place. More of 3 star to me but being nice.

Ambiance: very casual and not busy on Friday@ 6pm. Service: Friendly & competent. Food: Tried the Brisket sandwich on "Garlic Toast." Choose side of beans. The actual Brisket tasted fine; however the toasted bread felt greasy to the fingers and tasted more salty than Garlic. It ruined the taste of the Brisket, which should be the hero of the dish, finished it off open sandwich style. We had enough of actual Brisket to bring home & made a tasty nacho style dish, very tasty. Verdict: They make relatively good BBQ~ but they need to learn how to make a sandwich. Willing to try their Ribs and chicken wings ~ Also would get their sliced Brisket for home consumption: where i can use a real good BBQ Sauce. Also the beer was good!

First things first... the food was amazing and delicious. We ordered the 4 meat combo with baked beans and Mac and cheese on the side. The sides that come with the combo were large and we added an order of cabbage. Everything came out warm and presented very nicely. There were plenty of tvs (playing sports) and music playing . The service was quick & simple and our waitress was very nice and answered any questions we had. The menu was easy to read and had a good selection. I will definitely be recommending this to anyone.

Ribs, brisket, sausage, potato salad, and coleslaw. Ignore the gnawed on bones, couldn't wait.

Food was very tasty and they use REAL smoke. Service was great. My favorite were the pork ribs, nice bark, perfect pull, not overcooked.

Everytime I eat smoke bayou it hits the spot. I usually go for the 4 meat combo which comes with 1/2 lb of brisket, half smoked sausage link, 4 ribs, quarter smoked chicken, and 2 of the pint sides (I like the baked beans personally, and add some rice to make it a meal if it's own). The service is friendly, even when there's a wait at times because they're a popular BBQ place. They have good Louisiana decor inside that makes it feel like a hometown spot. FYI, they are relocating to a new location. I was a little too excited when picking up my plate this past Friday to actually ask when they'd be at the new location, but I know the 30th of March was the final day at 4355 Inniswold Rd The new location will be at 10655 Coursey Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.

The food was really good! The brisket had a nice fatty side to it which I love. The ribs were cooked to perfection. I wasn't a fan of the yams, too much cinnamon for me personally, however the other sides were great. The service was okay. They were very busy and only had one server on the floor. She was extremely overwhelmed which was not her fault. She was even making drinks behind the bar. They needed more staff. The ambiance was okay, there was no music playing. Just quiet. Overall I'd eat here again, just probably ordering Togo

My absolutely first time dining now and it was great. The host had great energy. I would say it did take a bit for our waiter to come out but it was no more than maybe 15-20 minutes. However, that was not that big of a deal. We also ordered the seafood egg rolls which were really great! Absolutely, recommend. The food and alcoholic beverages are super delicious!

Okay so I have a couple gripes, but this little BBQ joint is pretty solid, all things considered. This place was recommended by someone from the area on Facebook so decided to stop in for lunch while passing through Baton Rouge. It was consistently busy the whole time I was there, which is always a good sign. The inside is pretty small so most tables were taken up but we were able to snag one. Many people seemed to be getting their orders to-go. This place has the option to dine-in but you go to the counter to order, which I don't typically prefer, but it's fine. Everything is packaged to-go so they don't ask if you're dining in. I got the 1/2 brisket entree which came with two sides. I knew I wanted the mac and cheese, but none of the other sides were appealing to me, except the potato salad but my boyfriend already ordered that as his side. There was a chalk board behind the girl at the cash register advertising a burger and fries. I asked her if I could get fries as my other side and she said no, fries are only for people getting the burger. Big disappointment. There needs to be a regular potato option besides potato salad. Other sides include baked beans, collard greens, and yams, and I don't like any of these. Nonetheless, I wasn't going to make a big stink about it so I just got a second order of mac and cheese. We waited a bit for our food but that was to be expected with all the people there. The lady who brought out our food was very nice and gave us their BBQ sauce. I'm picky about BBQ sauce. I really liked this one- luckily, because it's the only one they have so if you don't like it, you have to eat your meat dry. My brisket was good but soooo fatty. I'm lucky if I got to eat half of my 1/2 pound order. I hate when this happens because I'm paying for a 1/2 pound of meat but can't eat a good portion of it. The Mac and cheese was good. My corn bread muffin was really good. My boyfriend got the brisket sandwich and potato salad, which he liked. The potato salad had a pleasantly interesting flavor. I get the impression that the owner of the restaurant cares about his food and has unique recipes. Restaurant was clean and tidy. The restaurant is closed Monday-Wednesday, but thankfully I came on a Sunday so I did not miss out! I would definitely return if in the area again!

Thus far I have tried the brisket sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, armadillo egg and potato salad. My first two visits the pulled pork and brisket were hot, tender and moist. The first time I visited they had an asian inspired BBQ sauce which was really good. Their prices are on par or maybe even a little bit more reasonable than other BBQ spots. While BBQ is the main emphasis here, there are a number of other things on the menu. One of these that's really popular is the seafood stuffed potatoes. These are gigantic baked potatoes that come with shrimp or catfish, with our without crawfish étouffée. Seafood is a definite option here, and one can have it on Friday or any other day. But let's discuss the BBQ. They have smoked turkey that's never dry, and this is great in a sandwich or plate. The smoked wings are another favorite of mine. Then there is the smoked meatloaf, which is great in po-boy form. The ribs and brisket are also very worthy options. I think a two meat plate is a good way to enjoy the BBQ as it allows variety in tasting! Then one has to be pleased by the wide selection of sides. Variety is always great, especially when it includes uncommonly great options like fried green beans, red beans and rice, and Cajun Dirty Rice. It was like a cross between eating blueberry pie and blueberry cobbler. The next time I stopped in I ordered the Apple Stuffed Biscuit and it wasn't as good as the Blueberry. I think the Apple one would probably be better if the filling was eaten warmed. I have also tried the Beignets. I ordered a half of each type. The plain was not so great. Just too doughy and blah. The Sweet Potato was better, but I would still rather get the Stuffed Blueberry Biscuit. The sausage patties are made with Mild Jimmy Dean sausage so they are good too - better than the Bacon. The Pancakes are okay too if you aren't in the mood for the Biscuit. The Reese's one was overly sweet and the Pecan was messy and on the drier side but syrup fixed that.
