We loved these waffles so much we went twice during our stay in Eugene for the Olympic Track and Field trials. Both visits were on Saturdays at around 11am. Took about an hour each time from getting in line until our food arrived. Unlike other reviewers, we found the staff friendly and reasonably helpful. The environment is funky, cramped and not particularly clean. They don't provide table service (e.g. Get your own coffee, bus your table, order at the counter). So the plain liege waffles are great (the multitude of past offerings were too). Order a few to go and and you'll be on your way and you can just much out of the paper as you walk down the street. If you want to dine in be prepared for a less than pleasant experience. The place is too popular for it's own good. Especially on the weekends mornings be prepared for a long list of troubles of a business that can't handle the volume, e.g., long lines, long waits, trouble finding a table, trouble walking around the dining room, unwarm mugs in the coffee warmer, overflowing (self-busing) bus tubs, trouble keeping the coffee brewed to keep up with demand, incorrect orders, items arriving one at a time, quality issues, etc. The menu has continued to shrink more and more over the past few years, I can only imagine in attempts to streamline the offerings in hopes of speeding up food prep and service, but this has really hurt one of the best things the place used to have going for it, unique and tasty breakfast/brunch offerings. It really went from a truly unique place with a great product, to a place plagued with operational troubles, and an ever diminishing product selection. For me it is no longer a place I'll bring the family to eat on the weekends. I still get a craving for the plain waffle though so I'll still stop in for an O.G. to go. Our Eugene friends recommended OTW for breakfast so we tried it. Overall this is my take on the place: Awesome Food, Crappy Service. I've read through everyone's reviews and complaints about the service and have to agree that the attitude of the staff there is "You are lucky we let you in, now don't bother us with requests or stupid questions. I'll help you out when I feel like it." We got there and didn't realize that it was order at the counter style. The signage giving instructions about how to order is tiny, postage stamp size. I recommend the owners put a LARGE sign on the door that points out "Order at the Counter". We didn't realize this was the process so we sat at a table and proceeded to be ignored for 20 minutes. Staff walked by our table several times and either rolled their eyes at us or ignored us. It was almost hostile. Sorry we didn't know we were supposed to go to the counter first! Finally we figured it out after reading the postage stamp sized table card that gave the instructions for how it works at OTW. So we finally got our order in with the fairly friendly girl at the counter. When the food arrived it was awesome. I have to admit they are doing a spectacular job kicking out those waffles. Everything we ordered was delish. But I have to agree with Kayla's earlier review mentioning the Extra Charge for Syrup. WTF? You are a WAFFLE place and you are charging extra for Syrup? That is whack! Umm, I could understand charging for an Extra side of syrup, especially if it's the real maple. But you should get a side of syrup with your waffle. What a racket! The order at the counter, extra for syrup and bus your own table are all way outta whack for the size of the place. C'mon! Table order and delivery can't be that hard in a space that's under 500 sq ft. But they have me in a twist because their food IS amazing. So I will probably go back for more punishment because their waffles are addictive. How much I have loved off the waffle has continually decreased with each visit more and more. Now I have become so dissatisfied that I can now say I hate off the waffle. First, it started with the extremely slow service. I have had multiple times where they forgot some of my friends orders and didn't compensate them for their own mistake. Next, every single time I come they are out of more than 2 items. I would understand if they lowered the price for half the waffle missing... Or offered another item for free. But no, instead, they deliver awful customer service and show no remorse for your now below average waffle. Lastly, I just recently went to off the waffle, salivating at the thought of my favorite waffle... (The only reason I would still give off the waffle 4 stars) However, as soon as I walk in I notice that they took off multiple waffles off the menu AND their ingredients. I will now never go to off the waffle or bring my friends. Or recommend it to anyone I meet. i had my first waffle at off the waffle tonight i ordered one with strawberry. The waffle itself is pretty good i'd give it a 3.9/5 the only complaint i had was that it was doughy on the inside i would have liked it more if it had a more crispy inside.I dont know if that was just because of the strawberries. I was introduced to Off the Waffle last spring and I've been in love with it since. It's so inviting to walk in, relax to the music that's playing, enjoy excellent waffles, and play games, read or color on your waffle bag. It's really one of the greatest places in Eugene to take friends to for the first time because they're always impressed with how good it is. Off the Waffle is worth every penny! Wow...I used to be completely addicted to these once beautiful waffles and ate them often, taking bags of them home, frozen. But no more. Even my kids have rejected these new waffles! Just recently they changed their irons and make a smaller THINNER waffle that can't be stuffed!! WTF? Please be advised, I am a total waffle snob. But, although I was suspicious at first, Off the Waffles has won me over. I wasn't sure about the liege style of waffles at first, less savory and more sweet, fairly dense and heavy inside compared to waffles I was used to...more like a donut than a waffle for me. But then I noticed myself starting to crave them...uh oh! Well, needless to say we are hooked now. The plain waffle is really good and the price for these is right. But, their combos are where its at. I love The Bully: strawberries with chocolate piled on, I ask for whip cream added cuz that's how I roll. Last time we went for late dinner instead of dessert and I wanted something more savory. I got the BMB and oh my god was it good. It has bacon, harvarti and basil with maple syrup and the flavor combination was amazing. Plus, they have an organic garden in the summer where they get a lot of their ingredients. My husband always gets the schmooli which has pear, gouda, applesauce, walnuts and coriander and he loves it. Also, I've tried the H-Bomb: apple, cinnamon, harvarti and it was great too. Many choices and you can customize your own combo too although these guys know what they are doing when they designed these flavor combinations. This place had a small-establishment funky vibe to it, emphasized by abstract paintings decorating the walls and Dixieland jazz playing from the speakers. I had the Self-Fulfilling Prophecy with the egg over hard and a cup of coffee. The waffle took a while to come out, though the place was packed, so that wasn't unexpected. The waffle itself was soft, sweet and delicious, the egg perfectly cooked as I wanted it and covered in small pieces of thick-sliced bacon, drizzled with maple syrup. It was easily the best waffle of my life! The only real problem was the coffee: every cup I had had coffee grounds in it, and the last gulp of my second cup was about a tablespoon of coffee and a mouthful of grounds. It might've just been that pot of the coffee, but it was an unfortunate way to end the meal. Overall, it was fantastic, and I'd highly recommend the establishment, though I'd likely just have water. read more

RUDE! Never had a chance to evaluate the food because our party (4 of us) could not get the attention of the staff to take our order. It was amazing to watch as the staff ignored us. We were so disgusted and angry, we left. I will never go there again and never recommend this awful place to anyone. I really love the Eugene culture and all of the awesome food spots. Unfortunately this place has not done well with me. I've eaten here several times, and each time the servers have done something to mess up the order. At one point I was supposed to have greens cooked into an omelet, I forgot and instead of making a new omelette they brought out cold greens on the side. Just love this place. I visit the Downtown Eugene location each time I come to town to visit my daughter, who introduced me to this great eatery. I am usually not a fan of breakfast but this provides the exception to the rule. My favorite is THE SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY one sunny side up organic farm fresh egg (oozing yolk*), bacon, real maple. I pay extra for a second egg. My family order what they like and then we usually order an extra, THE BELOVED BULLY Belgian chocolate chips, fresh strawberries, garnished with a swirl of our housemade dark chocolate sauce, to share. Coffee is good, orange juice is fresh. Highly recommend. It does get crowded but the good tasting food is worth the wait. read more

I love the south eugene location for off the waffle, its such a unique addition to the Eugene food community. I go in a lot because its walking distance from me. I especially appreciate the involvement of the owners and managers when it comes to feedback. For instance they were very open to community feedback on wait times etc. They were great at improving wait times without sacrificing the quality of the amazing food they serve. If you go there, please do yourself a favor and enjoy the yes really though waffle. The goat cheese and organic pears are a ridiculous combination, and when you taste the basil you will be in hog heaven, the bacon helps with that as well . The waffles are to die for! I live way out in Thurston but have been there several times this month with visiting family. The savory selections are my favorite. I appreciate the fresh local suppliers and the emphasis on recycling. The staff are enjoyable and competant, the owners friendly and conversational. The popularity makes for long lines but people are generally patient and good about clearing out when done. I have very few negatives to say but here goes: Fix the tables...they all wobble!...Annoying!! And I did not know you have to pay extra for syrup ?? since I never ask for it. You guys are doing well enough, I believe, to spring for syrup. You should fix that and definitely... free coffee refills, guys... Come on. My boyfriend and I found Off the Waffle online during an overnight stay in Eugene and decided to give it a try. This place was great; I'm amazed at the negative reviews. Sounds like a lot of them were because people were looking for a different sort of dining experience. This isn't the place to go if you want sit-down table service. It's more of a coffee-shop vibe, only instead of beverages, they specialize in waffles. You order at the counter and pour your own coffee into ceramic mugs, then take a seat at an indoor booth or outside table. The coffee was good and their fresh-squeezed orange juice is truly fresh squeezed, which is hard to find. They were pretty busy when we came and you could tell the servers were working their butts off. They ran out of small glasses, so they gave me a large orange juice at no extra charge. The food was amazing, both in quality of ingredients and in design. I had a special that consisted of a waffle topped with sliced fresh figs, sliced almonds, crumbled goat cheese and wildflower honey; my boyfriend had a waffle topped with a sunny side up egg, bacon and maple syrup. Both were perfect. The waffles are like no other waffle I've ever tasted--they're soft and mildly sweet and buttery with a slightly crispy exterior. They're telling the truth when they say their waffles don't need syrup, but if you choose to order some, it's real maple syrup--as in, the expensive kind from maple trees that takes forever to harvest and process--which is why they charge for it, I'm sure. I was craving these waffles for days after. All in all, a perfect breakfast experience. We enjoyed great food and drink while reading the paper in a clean, comfortable, sunlit window booth. read more

Off the Waffle used to be the best, and only option for 'different' waffles. I can't exactly put my finger on it, however, something seems different now. Ever since they changed their hours from all day, to only mornings, everything (including the inside) has also changed. They changed out free butter for a side that costs x amount. They used to have bottles of ketchup, but now they call it a side and only give you a mediocre amount. I've been there two times since the hours changed, and I have to say, I don't necessarily want to go back. Don't get me wrong, the food is not terrible. It still tastes the same, but small changes make it more of a hassle than it's really worth. The inside looks less Eugene and unique, and more like a chain-restaurant. I might go back occasionally when I really need an OTW waffle, but otherwise, I'll be spending my money and time elsewhere. The hours are just too hard to work with. read more
