First and foremost, the waffles here are amazing. While I've raised an eyebrow or two at some of the topping combinations, I always gobble up my food and look forward to the next visit. I also make a point to bring people stopping by the area or who are new to Eugene here, because there is ample room for a small, casual group and I know the food will spark their imaginations. Yes, the service is kind of spotty and sometimes we end up waiting a while, and the wifi never works... but if you want to have unique food and a place to chitchat and play Jenga for a bit, this spot is great! read more

An umami-bomb breakfast orgasm in a small, strip-mall hole-in-the-wall. This place has the richest, tastiest waffle concoctions I've ever had: chèvre, avocado, cilantro and paprika piled on a fresh, liege style Belgian waffle, all crowned with two perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs. The dish? "Goat in headlights." My girlfriend had the same great Belgian waffle, but topped with pears, applesauce, Gorgonzola and a generous portion of crumbled walnuts. "The Schmoolie." She also had fresh squeezed OJ that was brimming with pulp and was "so yummy." Our only complaints are knit- picky small things: (1) when it's busy, it's not obvious what to do upon entry: you stand in line to order (you have to grab a menu at the door so you know what you want before it's your turn at the register), then sit at a table with a number; (2) the paint is a garish, bright orange and (3), the bathroom is off- site (at the neighboring building) and requires a key. The place is charming. It's been a long time since I was here and I can't remember why I stopped coming. Today I was buying something on Groupon deal $10 for $15 worth of food...so I thought what the heck right? I thought we can try to get close to $15 of not, no biggie right? Okay.... Quite simply, the food is excellent but the service always leaves something to be desired. The atmosphere is nice, though space is lackik, so if you come when it's busy they won't have a table available. The kitchen staff ends up taking orders , the counter staff runs back to the kitchen, and because you bus your own table, there's a good chance a table won't get wiped down between uses. Never come here when you're already hungry. It always seems like they have less people in the kitchen than they need, and if you're lucky enough to get a table, you'll end up waiting much longer than really seems necessary for your food to come. On our most recent trip, we had been waiting for half an hour and there were still 3 other tables waiting for food that had arrived before us. I will always recommend this restaurant for the food, but take the service with several grains of salt. read more

If I was rating purely for flavor and overall waffle deliciousness this place would have 5 out of 5 stars everytime. However, despite the waffles always being delicious, I have yet to come to Off The Waffle and wait less than 30 minutes for my food. Coming from Bend it's kind of dissapointing to make the trek over here for killer waffles just to be let down by the disorganized staff and slow food everytime. My boyfriend and I are sure to eat at Off The Waffle every time we are in Eugene. Their waffles are always better than I remember them to be and we love their outdoor sitting where we can bring our dog. I get the waffle with the apples and havarti cheese and my boyfriend gets the goat in headlights. I actually signed up for my yelp account a year ago roughly when I discovered that off the waffle had moved from stuffing their waffles to topping them. At the time I was unhappy, downright irate, but pulled back before offering a poor review. Flash forward to a year later and I'm glad I waited. If anything the fact that I was that attached to the product is only an indication of just how amazing the waffle is. There are; however, a few caveats. First, there is a good chance that you have no idea what you're getting yourself into. These are not your typical waffles, that caramelized shell of deliciousness is not anything like the Belgian you may have had in your minds eye. Likewise those flavor combinations from the toppings... let's just say I've had every waffle on the menu, and I still force myself to change it up every time I go in so I don't complacently return to the delectable Self-fulfilling prophecy or the Habib. So go ahead an open yourself up to a new waffle experience, you won't regret it they're worth every penny. Unfortunately this review comes with a second caveat too, and that's the service. Due to whatever logistical nightmare happens behind the scenes (I imagine that you walk through that kitchen door into a jungle of fresh produce growing and little magical elves that you have to barter with for individual ingredients, but then I have an active imagination) you can except a bit of a wait. I've walked in several mornings and had to abort a waffle run in order to make it to work on time. I've also spent more than an hour waiting for an order late at night. On the other hand I saw that the special today was the blueberry goat cheese variety that used to be my favorite and therefore I'll be returning to patiently wait in line for however long they tell me to in the near future, and doesn't that tell you more about the place than the wait? read more

We came here for Sunday brunch and our timing was perfect because shortly after we arrived, the place became packed and the line was out the door. Instead of waiter service, you order at the counter and are given a number where the waiter will serve you. You get your own coffee and water, too. There is a small outdoor seating area, with four picnic tables. I ordered the Banana and Chocolate Waffle, which doesn't sound like much, but was quite filling. My boyfriend had the plain waffle with an omelette entree, which he had a difficult time finishing. After trying his plain waffle with just maple syrup, I wished I had ordered that instead since you can really taste the texture and flavor of the waffle. (But, my chocolate and banana was good, too. This place makes the most amazing waffles, well duh, considering that it has 'waffle' in the name. Still, these waffles are a favorite. When I go, I usually get the Self Fulfilling Prophecy. If I go with a friend, we half our order and share, which is more than enough. These are some filling waffles, and the way they are served can range from sweet to savory. They are also have amazing chocolate milk. The service is laid back, and very friendly. Despite it being busy, the employees always have time for each individual customer, and they aren't past partaking in a bit of banter. I have only been to the Willamette location, which is a bit small. At some point, I want to check out their new downtown location, which looks way bigger. I hear tell that they host local art performances there. So, I intend to take a look, and I suggest others do the same. read more

Stopped in after a movie Friday night near midnight and they were out of waffles. Good for them bad for me I thought. To my surprise they had backups, Frozen Waffles! This sounded odd at first but it turned out great, they didn't charge for the waffles just the fillings. I decided this was as good a time as any to explore some different flavor combos. Tried a banana-chocolate chip and a raspberry-apple, awesome separate and together. The fillings melting together tantalizingly inside the carmelized waffle shell. I'd heard some conflicting stories about Off The Waffle changing but I found everything similar to the way it was minus the fro dudes constantly around. I liked the addition of frozen waffles to go (6 for $12) and the larger list of fillings (75 cents to $2 depending on the ingredients). Overall I still like the place and think the service is a bit slow and the waffles are a bit on the spendy side (3 bucks each) but they seem to make up for it with good customer service. read more

This was a stop during 6 days of hanging in Eugene visiting many old friends. They would've gotten 5 stars had I not had to wait for 42 minutes for my waffle. That being said, this was one of the best things I've ever eaten! A Liege waffle (never heard of them, but with the slightest crunch on the caramelized sugary exterior, I could eat them plain, and love it), paired with the smoky, tender slices of pork belly, draped with melted Havarti, and accented with minced basil...it was nothing short of phenomenal. Eight of us had a super experience and all enjoyed what we ordered. They were busier than usual because of graduation and our food took longer to arrive than predicted. We were offered snacks to hold us over and that helped. Hard to choose between the sweet, savory and in betweens but I opted for an in between and it was oh so good --- waffle topped with a mix of spinach, caramelized onions and bacon in a balsamic reduction and fresh strawberries on the side. A great addition to the neighborhood and Eugene! I stopped by last week to try one waffle. I ended up ordering a 2nd one. I then went back the next day to get another one. That pretty much sums up how good they taste--which is FANTASTIC. Please keep in mind this is not an "American" waffle that you may be thinking of which usually involves syrup, knife, and fork. These are identical to what street vendors serve in Belgium!! The 2 owners ( I think they are brothers) are very friendly and were fun to talk to. They are also building a toy/book/dvd/cd exchange, so you can bring something by to add to their collection. LOVE LOVE LOVE! The waffles are delicious, totally not what you'd expect. I love that almost everything used to make them is organic. They offer different flavors, such as chocolate, strawberry, banana, walnut, pistachio and cherry. I've tried the first three and it's hard to say which is my favorite. Next time I'll probably choose between Original, strawberry and banana. Basically, they slice open the waffle and insert the accessory food of your choice. That's how thick it is! I'm sure they're pretty fattening, nothing that's good for you tastes this good. If they weren't so fattening, I'd go back every single day. *sigh* The only thing I'd improve on is more room for people to sit and the option to use credit cards.
