Red pozole.... Yummm

If you love true authentic Mexican food ... then this is the place . A beautiful simple Mexican restaurant with home made tortillas and lots of smiles from the guests to the workers . For a moment I felt I was in Mexico ... it literally brought back memories . Maybe because everyone there knew each other and the smell of food it just felt right ... I had red pozole it was AMAZING !!! Though this restaurant does not serve alcohol ... a COCA - COLA hit the spot .... I always say ....simple is always better.

Amazing menudo

We came across this restaurant this afternoon while heading to another place for lunch but i saw the sign by the door saying their weekend special is Menudo and that certainly got my attention so i made a detour inside. The place was 3/4 full with the counter spaces completely occupied and a few empty tables. We sat down and waited for someone to bring over the menus but no 1 came. So i waved down a staff to ask for the menu to which she said, "we don't have menus." She pointed at the back wall and said, "the menu is written on the board. After you've decided then return to your table and someone will take your orders." So we trudged on back and then i noticed the menu is in Spanish and the prices aren't listed. Luckily for us a Hispanic lady waiting for her take-out translated the items for us lol. I knew i wanted the menudo and i also got the huevos con salsa. The girlfriend asked for the bistek ranchero. And if you order water they will bring you bottled water. I didn't think Oxnard water was that bad, but okay. Impressions: love the Homemade tortilla. The menudo was phenomenal and so was the beef and the eggs. Now that i know how the ordering system works I'll be one of the ahappily returning regular customer

We were looking for a restaurant to try in the area as we were near shopping. We were so glad that we found this place. This is no commercial restaurant with hostesses and fancy decor- all of their effort is put into making the most delicious homemade food. Understand that you might have to practice some of the Spanish you learned in high school (as I did), but everyone working was friendly and welcoming. Their is no established menu which means EVERYTHING is fresh! Try something new or point to a picture here on yelp if you want to have a great eating experience. We tried: Carne en salse roja (Steak in a red sauce) Sopa de cameron (Shrimp soup) Jamaica Horchata Flan Everything was delicious!

Best authentic Mexican food in the area. I haven't had food like this in a very long time.

Dark and dingy of a place that resembles more of a saloon than a restaurant but hey I'll eat anywhere, I'm greeted by a nice waitress and I told her I just wanted some tacos what kind of meats do they offer, she replied Carne Asada.... I waited, and waited.... then ask what else?, she replies just Carne Asada, seriously?, YES!... So then I quickly look over the menu and order Mole, while waiting for my food she served me. Salsa - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Vv7gXCMbyWefYAoXhk-hOw?select=-xVJx3pqYAtoTIwOByDLCg very watery though it had good flavor and Med/Heat Chips - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Vv7gXCMbyWefYAoXhk-hOw?select=RpxIuEcgeMX0HcLx6MWbiw Some cheap store brand not very good. Mole - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Vv7gXCMbyWefYAoXhk-hOw?select=-Hv2YcvSK_MpO1_b__4Wiw Well my bad for not reading as the pollo is leg and thigh and I'm not a fan unless were talking females *(Chickens don't count) I only like breast http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Vv7gXCMbyWefYAoXhk-hOw?select=VxpeBEuHwfFGHQhzT5Oldg the mole itself was very good just didn't like the meat, would have given it 4-Stars if it was breast but they don't even offer breast meat. 2-Stars

Best chilaquiles!

Five stars. This place is perfect if you are looking for authentic Mexican food. There is no menu but they make most of what you can ask for. Pretty much everything is great. Homemade tortillas. Bomb chilaquiles! The environment is super relaxed, it feels like your in at the dinner table at a Mexican home. Some of the best service ever. The staff is really friendly. Definitely a hidden gem!

A place recommended by a contractor who fixed our windows in Oxnard California. The man claims this…read moreis the best Mexican birria he's ever had in his life. With that being said, I wanted to try it out. This was about 2 years ago prior to this visit I had today at this location. I jotted the note down after overhearing him talking about it while watching Netflix. When arriving, the environment outside is run down, old fashioned and in the scary graffiti, homeless surrounding. Parking is difficult to find, but we got lucky me and a colleague. The place is on a road side where parking it located a few streets between about 100 feet away. The surrounding had graffiti and loitering which was unpleasant and I would imagine it is worse at night, be careful here! Inside, a wonderful aroma excites you as you enter the restaurant. Booths all around and hard uncomfortable seats. A lot of people came here today on Sunday afternoon. Customer service was excellent, the guy at the front was very chill, polite and acted as if I was his homie, buddy or good friend. This is what I like. I ordered the birria of course, a meat drenched in a bunch of flavors for days to keep the meat juicy, tender and moist. The variations ordered were three tacos plate with birria, onions cilantro and a consome that was massive. This meal was $17. The other order was a four piece birria quesadilla that was absolutely delightful, succulent and had a delicious hunger craving aroma and flavor that any starving or hungry person would die for! This plate was $14. The tacos did come with beans and rice. Between the two dishes the birria quesadilla was my favorite however, the tacos tasted better. The tortilla of the tacos was fresh and made with love. The value was regular, something I expected compared to taco trucks and side vendors of Mexican food. This place is extraordinary. I felt guilty after consumption because it was fatty, juicy and everything you would want in a pleasurable meal, but it was heavy on the calories and filling. It was a messy meal, I added salsas, more seasoning from the condiments bar. There were so many different sauces and fillings like lemon etc. to balance the flavors of the birria. The console incuded was an added kick that I loved. Definitely one of the best if not the best birria I ever had and I highly recommend this place if you like Mexican cuisine at its finest. An absolute hidden treasure that you need to try! I'll come back after a month of consistent cardio and strength training to burn enough fat and make room for another appetite that soothes my brain cells.

Place isn't too big inside and it was packed when we went on a Saturday afternoon. I was for sure going to get the nachos and tacos but wanted more. Jesus was kind enough to recommend the grilled cheese and burrito. Both were great recs and delish! I mean I thought about the grilled cheese and burrito days after. The horchata was creamy and you could tell it was made in house. This place is delish, no notes.

I went there for lunch on a weekday, and I was pretty pleased with the service and food. The woman at the counter did speak English so that's always feels more comfortable, especially if you have any special requests. They have an open kitchen where they assemble orders, and the cook was rather friendly. I ordered a roasted pork burrito (I can't remember the name, but it's not carnitas). The meat was tender and tasted like it was slow cooked. The tortilla is not anything special, but all the fillings (rice, beans) were good. There is larger rice than beans ratio, but they give plenty of meat protein. I have been here several times in the past. I remember totally ratchet seating areas, where there were large holes in the floor. There seems to be some updates and the seating area is cleaned up (but I've only done takeout). They now also accept credit cards. For a low cost burrito, this is satisfying. Most burritos are ~ 10.
