Don't leave many reviews because I'm not one to knock someone's hustle, but when I find a spot that is delicious I just have to leave a review. My wife's niece put us on to this place a few weeks ago, but we finally made it out today. I had the menudo, the wife had the Espinazo con nopales and Baby Boy had Huevos con Chorizo. Being the big back I am, I had a try of all of it and I must say I was impressed. Lets start with the menudo; it was the best I've had in town. The flavor is authentic and the bowl isn't huge, but it's enough. It came with fresh homemade tortillas that really round out the meal well. 5 out of 5. Espinazo con nopales; delicious served plentiful overflowing out of the bowl. The Caldo/sauce it came in was savory and spicy. 5 out of 5. Huevos con chorizo; Delicious! Very very homemade. The chorizo was nice and crunchy and had just the right amount of spice to it. It was served with rice and recorded beans topped with queso fresco. It was exactly how my mom served me when I was a kid. 5 out of 5. We also had agua de Pepino y limo and it was nice and refreshing. Could have used an ice cold beer with the menudo but they don't serve alcohol. The service was outstanding as well. The man at the front was extremely welcoming and super nice. This place is perfect, from the old town Mexico vibe, to the Bulis playing on the stereo, the homemade tortillas and the old school furniture. I couldn't recommend this place enough. If you love true authentic Mexican food ... then this is the place . A beautiful simple Mexican restaurant with home made tortillas and lots of smiles from the guests to the workers . For a moment I felt I was in Mexico ... it literally brought back memories . Maybe because everyone there knew each other and the smell of food it just felt right ... We came across this restaurant this afternoon while heading to another place for lunch but i saw the sign by the door saying their weekend special is Menudo and that certainly got my attention so i made a detour inside. The place was 3/4 full with the counter spaces completely occupied and a few empty tables. We sat down and waited for someone to bring over the menus but no 1 came. So i waved down a staff to ask for the menu to which she said, "we don't have menus." She pointed at the back wall and said, "the menu is written on the board. After you've decided then return to your table and someone will take your orders." So we trudged on back and then i noticed the menu is in Spanish and the prices aren't listed. Luckily for us a Hispanic lady waiting for her take-out translated the items for us lol. I knew i wanted the menudo and i also got the huevos con salsa. The girlfriend asked for the bistek ranchero. And if you order water they will bring you bottled water. I didn't think Oxnard water was that bad, but okay. Impressions: love the Homemade tortilla. Same as other yelpers this place is a gem! The food is to die for this is Mexican food legit, if ur looking for moms and grams sazon this is it! Chilaquiles and bistec con nopal is the bomb! Not to mention the menudo bomb.com! The food is amazing! I cant say enough but for the service don't expect much and there is no menu given to you it's just on a white board and also no prices written they just tell you the total which is pretty weird but I guess that works for them. read more

We were looking for a restaurant to try in the area as we were near shopping. We were so glad that we found this place. This is no commercial restaurant with hostesses and fancy decor- all of their effort is put into making the most delicious homemade food. Understand that you might have to practice some of the Spanish you learned in high school (as I did), but everyone working was friendly and welcoming. Their is no established menu which means EVERYTHING is fresh! Try something new or point to a picture here on yelp if you want to have a great eating experience. As we walked in which i was hesitant to do ,but we checked yelp and it got a 4 star rating. We sat down and waited about 15 mins for a menu and nothing. We were told that the menu was posted next to kitchen. Unbelievable . We ordered and a girl brought us chips in a paper bowl Store bought. Then her comes another girl with the chile sauce. These 2 girls didnt seem to know what to do ...they just followed each other. They had only one waiter for all that were there. I think. Who ever gave this place a 4 star must of been the owner. The location may be a little sketch and it is a little dark inside but beyond the cosmetics this is a gem. The food is very authentic and delicious. If you want to see what a home cooked meal in Mexico taste like, this is it. I had the costillas in Chile verde (Roasted pork riblets in a green sauce ) and it was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. The rice and beans are also tasty but what makes the meal are the hand made tortillas. If you are ok with venturing to a little " interesting " part of town, lock your doors and drop in. We just had breakfast here. We loved it! Very friendly, warm staff, large portions, excellent chunky salsa. The handmade tortillas were amazing - probably the best we've had in a long time, and we just got back from 3 months in Mexico. Interesting experience. Don't have menus, just a couple of options per day. I had the Caldo de Res, which was like eating a home cooked meal and very filling. Initially they serve you this hot salsa served in a giant mocajete bowl. Was actually really good. Also serve rice or beans. Only paid $10. I went back. I sat down at the lunch counter. It took a few minutes before the server came around, but when she did she had a smile and pleasant manner. She didn't give us a menu, but that's okay, we just wanted burritos anyway. I asked what kind of meat they had. "Carne Asada and Chili Colorado", she said. "No lengua, cabeza, al Pastor?" I said. She shook her head, "no". We went with Carne Asada. It was chewy and bland with at least two large pieces of inedible grisle in each one.
