I was in the mood for a breakfast burrito and this place popped up on Yelp and decided to give them a try. I AM SO HAPPY THAT I DID. Placed my order by phone for a breakfast burrito with ham. I was quoted 15 minutes until the food was ready. 17 min later I was there and my food was ready to go. Only paid $12 bucks for my burrito and thing thing legit weighed about 5lb. ITS MASSIVE. The burrito itself was of GREAT QUALITY AND PACKED WITH FLAVOR. Everything about it was great and the salsas that came on that side were a great touch on the burrito. Overall, this is probably the best breakfast burrito I've had in the Oxnard/Ventura/Camarillo area. Make sure to check them out if you haven't done so already. read more

We don't have a ton of food places on the east end especially off saticoy. This place is BOMB. They paid attention to my notes on what to please add to the burrito. It was okay. In my case the food was served so hot that they actually cooked the flavor out of the food. Biting into it on a already very warm day it was steaming and uneditable due to the extreme heat. Which made it hard to taste any kind of flavor. read more

I discovered this true "hole in the wall", mom and pop place on Yelp, so I had to give it a try. breakfast burrito: It's MASSIVE. However, it's mainly rice and beans. As a somewhat breakfast burrito purist, I don't believe there should be rice and beans in a breakfast burrito. The potatoes take the place of the rice, and the beans (which are delicious), tend to mask all the other flavors of the eggs, cheese, etc. So all I tasted was rice and beans. carnitas burrito - Once again, it was huge, but the carnitas were old and dried out. It was if it had been sitting in a chafing dish for 2 days... Sadly, I can't recommend this place. read more

We love La Escondida! Not many people in Ventura County seem to know about it and they should. Everything we've tried is delicious. Right now our fave thing to order is their taco combo. My husband gets hard shell with lettuce sour cream and cheese and I get the handmade soft tacos which comes with sautéed onions and cilantro. All the meat is fantastic but the shining star is their chicken. My husband doesn't like chicken at all, but here he orders all of his tacos with chicken. It's super flavorful and we've never gotten a bite of gristle. Their chilequiles is also sooo good, but was a bit spicy for me (I don't really do spicy). Highly recommend! Wow I've been missing out for far too long! I've driven by La Escondida for years and always thought it was just a facade from olden days and while on Yelp saw it pop up and knew I had to give it a try! Decided to swing by today for lunch and walked into a little gem with about 9 tables inside for table service or you can order to go. A white board on the wall give you all the meat choices for your burrito option or taco favorites which boast their home made tortillas! I opted for the burrito since it was a jam packed day and I would be eating on the go and it's easier to chow a burrito while in transit than tacos. I went with the Chile relleno and added asada to it and it was the choice! The asada was flavorful and not just a ball of fat, the Chile was filled with cheese and perfectly roasted. Home made refried beans and rice were portioned perfectly and it all worked so well!! It was flavorful, filling but not to the point that you needed a nap or felt guilty!! The lovely mom and pop vibes and friendly staff will have me coming back for sure!! Maybe next time on a slower day and I can actually get some photos! read more

I was craving a good ol' breakfast burrito so I hopped on yelp to see what was nearby as I work in Saticoy and we don't have many restaurants here. It took me no more than 5 minutes to get to La Escondida, I placed an order over the phone for a breakfast burrito with bacon and no beans and the gentleman over the phone told me it would be ready in about 5 minutes. I walked in and the establishment itself is very tidy and feels very inviting. It was only one person there who I assume was the owner, he had my order ready and I told him I would be paying with card and he asked if I happened to have cash, however I usually don't carry cash on me. He told me that it was okay and to just come back tomorrow to pay him back, I panicked and told him I would go find a gas station to take out cash and he told me not to worry about it and not to waste my lunch time and to just come back tomorrow. I was so caught off guard by his genuine/selfless demeanor, I quickly found a liquor store immediately after and took out cash. I paid about $11 for my breakfast burrito and it was massive and hearty! It came with eggs, potatoes, cheese and bacon, and a side of tortilla chips. I would rate this burrito an honest 8/10. I'm very picky when it comes to my breakfast burritos because some people either put too much egg or potatoes and not enough meat but this breakfast burrito was well balanced and honestly delicious :) The burrito is massive so I was able to eat half for my lunch today and save the other half for tomorrow. I am going to check out their other menu items now that I have found this hidden gem, definitely worth checking out! :) read more

I have been searching for an authentic burrito for so long! I now have a new favorite spot for my Mexican food fix. I love Carnitas, and the Carnitas burrito was amazing! Not only is this burrito jam-packed with flavor, it's also huge. I had it for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is very clean and fairly easy to find. I ordered take out, but it was packed inside. I've seen this place many times driving by, but never stopped. And they didn't have a listing on Yelp, so when we were looking for Mexican food - we never thought of this place. I had a Chorizo Breakfast Burrito and it was pretty good! Not too greasy, but towards the end of the burrito there was a little grease dripping. Still very tasty. Service was good, order at the counter - but they didn't mention that you pay when your order is ready, so I stood there after they walked away. No big deal, still they were very friendly. read more

Ok, so stopped by this hidden gem because my brother loves this place when he's in town. He's the the one that told me about this place. I walked in around 8 am and was looking for a breakfast burrito to go and be on my way. The place was very clean, and smelled fantastic. I ordered two breakfast burritos. One Ham and one Bacon. Comes with eggs, beans, cheese, potatoes and your choice of meat. I waited about 10 minutes and was on my way. I looked over the menu while I waited because I could tell I was gonna be coming back, and I wanted to be prepared . Got home and opened the 2 biggest breakfast burritos in the game. And they're only $5.99!! Split one with my mom and it was more than enough. It was fantastic and one of the best breakfast burritos in town. I'm a big fan of breakfast burritos and I can tell you from experience, u won't be disappointed. Everything is freshly made and very reasonable prices. Also everything is very authentic. Didn't get to try the chips on this trip, but next time I will sit and eat there and take in the full experience. You know I love my chips and salsa. I've had this place on my list to try since I read all the great reviews . I checked yelp and closing time says 5 pm so thought perfect timing on my way home from work I could easily stop with time to spare. Stopped at about 4:15 on a Tuesday and they were already closed up. Today I thought don't follow the yelp time listed and call the location first. Spoke to a nice woman whom said they actually close at 4pm. Left work a few minutes early and got there a lil after 3 and doors were locked. Such a bummer. What's sad is I still want to try this place based on the reviews and I like to support mom and pop businesses but they are making it kind of difficult. This is my new Mexican place by a long shot. I always judge a Mex restaurant by their tripas and these are the best I've EVER had. Not kidding! Amazing! I had two tacos de Tripas and one of Al Pastor... which was also amazing! The tastiest Al Pastor I've had... so amazing! The tacos are big so watch out. Grilled onions were a great touch. Sorry if I sound like an advertisement for them but I can't help it. I am as sincere as can be... this place rocks! One of the best parts was the homemade corn tortillas. They were perfect! Hands Down! This is the most authentic Mexican Restaurant in Ventura County. Everything is homemade from scratch. Even the tortillas. It feels like I'm at home when eat at this place.
