The food is okay, but this business is living in the Stone Age. It's bad enough to get charged a fee for using a credit payment, it's whole other thing for that fee to based on a percentage of what you buy. So in other words, the more you buy from them, instead of being rewarded for buying more, you are unappreciatively being charged more the more that you buy. This business needs to get with the times. Especially considering how successful it is. To be nickel-and-dimed extra fees is preposterous and discourteous. It is on those principles, that I will not return to this establishment. I dont need to eat there, I have plenty of other food options. They on the other hand, need my business, but have a real funny way of showing it. If you are a Carnitas Foodie, this place is the real deal. The star of the show on the menu is YUMMY Carnitas (best we've had - hands down)) with side dishes of beans, rice, pico de gallo, red and green salsas, large homemade tortillas. Everything was delicious, staff very competent and friendly, they keep the huge lines moving, very clean - they even had a very competent parking attendant in the back directing traffic it was so busy. Finally I was able try this place and let me tell you I am glad I did this place is great the carnitas are really good. Carnitas were moist juicy with so much great flavor. They gave me a small side of rice and beans I don't know if it's because I came right when they opened but the rice was so good and fresh like it was just made. The tacos were delicious and full of carnitas. We got 4 tacos and one horchata and my husband a beer total was about 35 dollars. Each taco is about 5 dollars but to be honest one taco equals about 2. Their customer service is excellent as well. The restaurant is clean and spacious and parking as well. We drove an hour to try these tacos and totally worth it. These are the best carnitas in town. The two taco plate has so much meat I can make a second meal off of it. The service is excellent. I never feel out of place even though my Spanish is poor at its best. I've always gotten my order to go but they have plenty of room to eat in the restaurant which has nice bright color's everywhere. I went from living merely ten minutes away from this place to nearly an hour, meaning my trips to Carnitas El Rey are now for special occasions or desperate weekend cravings. FOOD: Carnitas Mixtas w/ Rice, Beans, and Salsa: So freaking good! Their carnitas are very tender, seasoned well, freshly chopped, and served warm. The rice and beans were standard and always a good match with the carnitas; they are also perfect with tortillas! My favorite aspect of the Carnitas Mixtas is the "Mixtas" part of it--that is, carnitas mixed with stewed tripas (intestines) and chicharron (pork skin)! LEGIT. The tripas are as tender as the carnitas, while the large slices of chicharron are soft, tender, and melt in your mouth. SERVICE: Everyone here is very friendly, and they know how to keep you coming back (besides serving you really good carnitas). The first time I went, one of the younger guys that works here hooked my family and I up with an extra container of their red salsa. During my second visit, the guy chopping the Carnitas Mixtas hooked me up with extra slices of tripas and chicharron. The dining area is nice, spacious, and festive. Came here for the first time today. Let me tell you, they have the best carnitas in town. We got there around 4:30, as soon as we ordered, they ran out of carnitas. We got so lucky. Quick tip: ask for the onions, cilantro, lime and for the green and red salsa. The tacos come plain, but they provide the toppings as long as you ask. I will say, beware there is a lot of homeless in the parking lot. read more
