I went for a bike ride and ended up here. I forgot it was Mother's Day and thought no way would we be able to find a place that could seat us. Oceanside Broiler had plenty of seating. Hmmmm makes you think? Why wouldn't they be packed like everywhere else? Well I was to find out. Nothing terrible but not super impressive either. Happy hour would be the way to go here but it being Mother's Day it wasn't available. So we ordered our OK food at double the price it would have been for happy hour. Beautiful location and setting. Outside patio is spacious and has a bar. I guess this must be new because many people showed up with their dogs and weren't allowed on the patio because of the addition of the bar. Probably would be a cool place to hang out during happy hour. The food to me just seemed worthy of the discounted prices of happy hour. My favorite item that I ordered was the cobb salad. Super crispy bacon and plenty of it. Lots of egg and tomatoes but the chicken was a little bland but the saving grace was the ranch dressing. Our server was hit and miss. We had not been to this restaurant in years and thought we we give it try. OMG. The scallops were divine and the Crab Louie was oK but not for the price. Talk about a turn around!!! Decided to try the O' Broiler because we had a two-fer coupon! Last experience at their opening was so bad we decided we wouldn't be back... But... My parents went and loved it . With a coupon in our pocket and a sunny day we ventured forth!! Great experience! Happy hour 11-6 Monday-Saturday and 3-6 Sunday. I love the new look of this place! They really did a number on the interior. We went in last night and had appetizers (late night happy hour, always a bonus!) and got pints of....you guessed it...Coors Lite (the only beer on Happy Hour from what I understood, but was what we wanted anyway) and got $4 Oysters (2), $4 Calamari (very large portion and I am also adding this to my Best Calamari List!) and $4 Crab and Avocado Won Tons (meh. Just ok, it was all won won, very little Crab) Our bartender was talkative and attentive, we had a great time and will most definitely be back! I tried this place out recently because my friends and I were gonna be in the area early in the day, but wanted some big drinks and yummy happy hour appetizers. Oceanside Broiler was perfect because they have happy hour starting at 11am! I also had read they had great mussels, we usually go over to Rockin Baja, but since they don't have an early happy hour or mussels anymore I needed somewhere else to get my craving taken care of. We tried the broiler bucket and it was so much better than I imagined and between the 3 of us we were ready to happily and lazily walk the beach! We also tried the chicken quesadillas and clam chowder and just as I had hoped the mussels were great too! We will definitely be back more on some beautiful sunny days. read more

The Oceanside Broiler Seafood Restaurant and Cocktail Bar is located on the Marina Promenade with great views of South Oceanside Harbor. The restaurant has a great variety of turf & surf on board the menu. My wife had the surprisingly cheap Cod Fish & Chips ($ 19.99) with a lovely garden salad (+ $ 2) instead of the featured cole slaw. I bought the Pacific Red Snapper for a similar price ($ 22.95) with a vegetable medley with carrots, pumpkin, and zucchini. The manager Warren made sure my wife and I had a wonderful table. My only complaints were these; 1) The restaurant reservation phone rang loudly without anyone answering. 2) The hostess staff sat at the table behind us and spoke in VERY LOUD voices. 3) The waiter and table bussing staff, choose the empty table on the opposite side from us to put their rags and bottles of cleaning solution for the table surface. 4) The air conditioner above our table was leaking condensation droplets on my shoulders and neck. Wow, drop-dead, knock your socks off view! I'm probably the only one in Oceanside who hasn't already been here. Wonderful place to eat on the covered patio which is right on the boating lanes coming into the harbor. We had a wedding reception yesterday and it was amazing. There were 40 people in our party and everyone enjoyed it. Guests were from 1 to 80 and they accommodated all. They even have heating for those that were close to the huge open windows next to the water. I sat at the bar which had a spectacular view. Highly recommended for groups, families or couples, especially on a sunny afternoon or evening. read more

It was my first time visiting here. We came in for lunch as my aunt was visiting from out of town. They have a small patio out front, and a larger back patio that is covered, as well as indoor seating and bar area. You will get a very nice view of the harbor if you sit outside. Our waitress was very nice, a bit slow. She may have been new, not sure. We ordered the Shrimp and Crab Louie salad, Baja Fish tacos, and the Wedge Salad. If it weren't for Darcy our waitress's great personality I'd be giving this place only two stars or even one. The location, ambience and decoration is great here. Place looks really chic and inviting. I'd come back here just for the bar. It's the food that is a challenge. Some was great some wasn't so it's inconsistent. The steak looked good and the cioppino was actually delicious, I'll stick with cioppino next time. First the Fish 'n Chips. Fish is cut into 2 ounce finger size slices, hardly battered at all and is then served greasy and cold because of this poor battering technique. Deep fried cod or haddock should be firm and flaky, this was not. Chips are nothing to write home about neither crispy nor tasty. I sent my Fish 'n Chips back and then had the French dip sandwich instead which satiated my hunger. Others had the coconut shrimp which was way over cooked. Tough as shoe leather. Well, I definitely wanted to write a better review. Alas, this was a bit of a disappointment. The good news first.... This place has great ambience and a nice feel being right on the water. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. Or server (of course I don't have her name) was wonderful. She got almost all of our orders right (only one small mess-up) and she was very sweet and helpful. The manager also came over during our dinner to make sure we were happy. This makes it harder for me to write the rest of this review, because we did really enjoy great service. For the not so good news... The food was subpar. Here's a run down of what we got: Fried Calamari Appetizer ($6 happy hour): 2/5 stars. The Calamari itself was made up of these thick, large strips. They were unfortunately pretty rubbery and the breading was nothing to write home about. For the price I'd expect more flavor and more tenderness. The servings were a good size, though! French Dip ($18): My husband gave it a 2/5 stars as it was not very flavorful and pretty dry. Thank goodness for the au jus, but for $18 he definitely expected more flavor. Ahi Nachos ($7): 1/5 stars. I wanted to love this because it's one of my favorite things to order when I go out if it's available. It was so drenched in two types of sauces that I couldn't even taste the ahi. It was drowning in sauce. The chips were ok, though. At least they were only $7. Fish and Chips ($18.50): My 11 year old loves fish and chips and gave it a 3/5 stars. Said it didn't have enough flavor (I'm guessing salt). Cheeseburger ($16): My 8 year old gave it a 5/5 stars. He ordered a plain cheeseburger and they brought a bacon cheeseburger. He took it anyway and said it was really good! Wedge Salad ($10.50): I give this 2/5 stars. Man, I didn't think you could really mess up a wedge salad, but they did. It was yet another dish that was so drenched in dressing you couldn't taste the other flavors. I gave it 2 stars because they put a good amount of bacon and bleu cheese, but what good is that when there's an over abundance of dressing? Chicken Tenders ($7): 5/5 stars. My 5 year old liked them a lot. They're a kids' menu item. For a family of 2 adults and 3 kids, our meal came to $111, and that was utilizing a couple happy hour prices. I did have 2 glasses of their house cab which was decent. The topper of the night was the fact that I forgot to present them with my 30% off coupon I got from Entertainment, the whole reason we went there in the first place. My bad, indeed. I normally don't write reviews this long, but I felt like being thorough with this one. My family only goes out to dinner once every 4 or 5 months or so, so it's a real treat when we go. The only complaint is that it was too cold to sit outside but we had to because our dog was with us. They do have heaters which we had to ask for them to turn on and they also have some clear curtains they could have lowered to block the breeze. I'm not sure why they didn't turn on heaters sooner or lower curtains because I heard other customers complaining about it being cold and asking to turn on heaters as well. My husband and I came for a friends birthday on a Sunday! Their brunch was seriously to die for! They had everything from chicken and waffles to Chopin to blackened salmon and biscuits and gravy! Their food was delicious and at $26 it was well worth it. The restaurant itself was beautiful, clean and had outside patio seating where you got a gorgeous view of the harbor. Their bloody Mary's were average. Lacking on the flavor side. The service was fantastic! We had a great server named Bailey! She was so on top of it and was great. I used to be a server so I get picky with my servers reviews. She listened to our huge party of demands for drinks, spoons and whatever else and was quick and had a great smile! My husband and I decided to try a new place and were sadly disappointed. It started right from the beginning with his Mai Tai being really watered down. Crab cake was ok nothing special and was served on a big bed of lettuce just to fill up the plate. I got a bowl of the new England clam chowder which was watery, full of vegetables, potatoes, bacon and very little clams. On to dinner, husband got the swordfish which was way over cooked and no flavor at all. I got the half and half with the "famous", "must have" coconut shrimp, it was also over cooked, had little to no coconut taste. The cod was mushy and the breading was bland, not even salt and pepper. The fries were over cooked and even the coleslaw had no flavor. We got creme Brule for dessert, with this, it was good except they put to much sugar on top and over torched it. We will never be back. I don't know why this place had such high reviews. Save your money and eat elsewhere. read more
