But not this time. Not sure if they have a new chef or what but it was terrible. A super small portion that was so over cooked it was hard to cut with a knife. Somebody was having a bad day. For almost $25 it was a huge disappointment. I'm not one to send food back. I've heard the stories about what they do in the kitchen with reordered food. Live and learn. This place was pretty good. The bread was pretty amazing (never required, but always appreciated) and seemed really fresh. The food was good, I had the Mahi Mahi and my husband had the coconut crusted salmon. Both we great! The vegetables were sad though, just squash and zucchini. I wanted a better healthy option but I guess they were going for cheap over something good. The service was not great. Our server only had three tables but forgot two or three requests from us and we had to remind him. He also said he was coming back right away but went to the other two tables first before us reminding him again. The food was good enough that we'll give it one more try. After many, many visits since my last review, I had to write this review because is was a little concerning. Several items that were served to our party of 10, just didn't measure up. Two people ordered the clam chowder that was way salty. Also aioli on the fish tacos was so tangy, that only the guy with iron stomach would eat them. To me, these are the things that usually don't happen because several people have sampled the food back in the kitchen. Guess no one did yesterday May 21, 2022. Other items were prepared well like the Calamari and Beef Dip. I still love the back patio for Happy Hour and will be back, but please be consistent with your food, it matters! read more

Please do not get me wrong, this is a lovely place with great views of the harbor, and that is why I keep patronizing it, in fact I have been a customer from the days that they were the Monterey Canners. My daughter and I usually spend a day at the beach and choose this as our stop before heading home, two ladies out for a nice ending to our beach day. We usually go to the back patio and sit and have a couple of drinks and some chowder or maybe something else pretty light. When there we have "always" had a great time, great service and food/ drinks as well. That was the plan on Friday 10/15....unfortunately our great run with The Broiler ended then. We entered and we met by Warren, notice I said met, not welcomed. We told him we wanted to go to the patio and he immediately told us the patio was full and that he could seat us in the inside bar area instead. We agreed and sat at a table that was against a wall not a window. That for me was troublesome, since my intension was to enjoy the harbor view not a wall view. The server came over and asked us what we wanted to have and we ordered a couple of brews. At the same time I told her that we really wanted to sit outside, her response was "didn't my manager tell you that outside was full ?" Which made me wonder how she knew that ? She stated that if we wanted to "wait" for a spot out there we could go back to the host station and wait. How kind of her ! So to try to make the best of it and not allow her or Warren to change our mood we sat there and were served our brews. As we were chatting I could not help but notice from my vantage point (facing the hostess area) that people were walking in from the street and filing past the hostess area with no one meeting them, as they paraded past us and went to the patio for service. When the 3rd couple passed us I said to my daughter, " I need to talk to someone about this ". I got up to the hostess area and met a man that his name is Robert, I asked if he was a manager and he responded yes. I told him that we noticed others were allowed to enter the patio no questions asked but we were not, being told the patio was full, he asked me who had told me that, I responded your manager, Warren. I also mentioned that our server had suggested we wait for outside seating and I told him that option was never offered to us by Warren, but nonetheless I have not heard any names being called out to indicate that people parading by us were indeed on a "list", waiting on a patio table. He was standoffish and aloof with me, actually I don't believe he ever looked at my face while I was talking with him. He obviously was not comfortable with my concerns. He however offered an apology and said he would move us to the patio if we so desired and I agreed. When we moved to the patio with him escorting us the server approached my daughter and asked her if she would be paying the tab before moving. Really ? you are going to chase us for a $10 tab? We are not leaving as you can see your manager is moving us.. I noticed several tables were available at the patio as soon as we walked in. Apparently the were available, but not for us. I would like to think that this is not racial and gender bias, but unfortunately that is what it smells of. The role of any manager should be to make "every" guest feel welcomed and special... that is something both Warren and Robert failed to do. That is regardless of what us as customers look like or how you might historically categorize us because of our sex, skin color or your possible concern of ability to pay or even how large the tab will likely be. In this age we demand a positive and inclusive environment, this behavior is not tolerable. These two managers should also keep in mind that the company they are employed by is legally liable when employees engage in discriminatory business practices. I would be remiss if I did not say something about our patio server Carrie, she always has gone above and beyond with us as her customers on so many occasions. She is pleasant, friendly, welcoming and is a pleasure to engage with on our visits. Maybe the need is for less managers that have no customer skills, and make a normally great experience "less than" due to their bias. So we chose to end the night well. Yes we could have just accepted that treatment and wondered... why and what was that all about ??? But we did not, we choose to be seen and heard, and hopefully this will be the last time something like this happens, not only to us, but to anyone. ONLY heavy dinner items like steaks and pastas. $47.50 (with tip) for a terrible shrimp pasta, that was supposed to have tomatoes and basil cream sauce. NOT ONE TOMATO and not one sign of basil. White plate, white pasta, with thick, tasteless white sauce with some shrimp, the only color on the the dish. We took my sister for her birthday to Oceanside Broiler. She had a coupon for a free birthday entree. She had the tuna melt; and she said it was one of the best tuna melts she ever had. Mom liked the French dip. She said the meat inside the French dip was good, but the bread was hard. I had the Shrimp Linguine. The linguine was good and the garlic bread. However, the shrimp was over cooked. I was disappointed because I paid over $27.09 for it. They gave my sister a small bread pudding for her birthday. The Oceanside Broiler is pricey. See menu on their website. The service was good. We had a nice table by the window overlooking the harbor. The chairs are old; they felt a little lumpy. My sister and I had to change out our chairs because we were sitting too low to the table. We may return, but only for special occasions. read more

My first time at Oceanside Broiler was today with my brother and Mom. The vibe is good and the patio view of the harbor and the boats was lovely. We all ordered from the very impressive happy hour menu. Mom - $8 Baja tacos. Me - $10 coconut shrimp. When the food came I thought, "Wow, super generous portions for happy hour prices, I'm liking this place." Remember, I've never been here before so I had no idea what to expect as far as the portion sizes went. The food was pretty good, quite good in fact and I was thinking, "Nice, a place to come and bring guests with decent food that's not too far from home." Then the bill came. The portions were generous because they gave me the entree size, not the happy hour portion. My $10 meal jumped to $26.50. My mom's $8 fish taco was $20.45. There's no way our server, Craig, could have been confused, I had the happy hour menu open right in front of me when I ordered. And if it was possibly confusing he should have asked if I wanted the happy hour size or the small plate size or the entree. Totally scammed. read more

My fiancé and I recently moved to Oceanside and we had yet to dine on the harbor. Being from New England, I always love any kind of Harbor and Marina dining experience. We were for a special occasion and what better a time then when my sister came to town? We also invited a few of our neighbors to join us. I was able to make a reservation online, easily through Yelp. Upon arrival, we were a few minutes late but it didn't really matter. I checked in with the hostess and told her we didn't want to sit outside but we wanted to be indoors with a great view. She recommended a larger table inside that faced the ocean. It was perfect. We were so happy with our accommodations. It was a weekday so the place, itself was pretty relaxed. Our server, Sonja approached the table and warmly introduced herself. She grabbed our drink order right away and none of us were embarrassed to order a round of martinis. She also brought a few jugs of water to keep us hydrated with lemons to accessorize. My fiancé put in a few appetizer orders. We heard this place was known for the oysters so we put in an order for a half dozen. Also, we put in the appetizer sampler which Sonja smiled and replied "great choice." The appetizer sampler had calamari, shrimp, coconut shrimp, and chicken lettuce cups. It was the perfect amount to share between five people. Our appetizers were delicious and soon before we finished them on our server took our entrée orders. The orders around the table where as follows: blackened salmon linguine, macadamia crusted mahi-mahi, ahi tuna, short rib, and the snapper. We all loved our entrées and if that wasn't enough we proceeded to order crème brûlée and the fudge brownie and ice cream dessert. That was all delicious as well. My fiancé spoiled us to a delicious meal with a perfect evening, beautiful view, great service, and comfortable environment. We will definitely be returning to the Oceanside Broiler. My husband and I came here for my birthday dinner celebration. We were in town from AZ to get out of the heat and celebrate in one of our favorite places, Oceanside. I looked around for nicer seafood restaurants and found the Oceanside Broiler. We went there and the wait was 45 minutes to an hour. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is because they don't take reservations. The staff was kind and accommodating - we were offered seating at a bar top facing the marina but it was right next to the hostess station and people were consistently stopping there to put in their names, so we asked for a different option which they gave us almost immediately. We were seated on the patio (obviously, thanks Rona) and I worried because the sun was right in my husband's already sunburned face. Thankfully the sun went down about 15 minutes after we were seated. We ordered appetizers of garlic bread and coconut shrimp, and both had the shrimp skewers entree. The garlic bread was tasty, but the coconut shrimp was outstanding. The fruit (mango) salsa was delicious with the crunchy coconut coating on the tasty shrimp. We each had one and split the third one in half, despite my husband very generously offering the whole thing to me. The shrimp skewers were your average grilled shrimp skewers, but they were a little sweeter than most, like they had been basted in the same drawn butter that was served with them. The veggies were pretty basic, but well cooked and not mushy. The rice pilaf was my least favorite part of the meal, but it was still pretty good. It was fresh seafood on the marina so between the two of us with appetizers and entrees (and one root beer for the hubs) the bill with tip came out to about $88, and it was worth it. I would absolutely go there again, but I wish they would take reservations. read more

There isn't a better spot to sit outside and see the harbor than Oceanside Broiler. The food is consistent, the drinks are good as well. Honestly, though, you come here for the view of the boats and water. It doesn't have the busy vibe that the other harbor restaurants have, either. Drink: Cucumber Cooler, was delightful and refreshing on a summer day. Food: I had the tuna salad, which was just what I needed. Simple, Light. This is a wonderful place to show up for Sunday Brunch. The seafood selection for the buffet is delicious and you can't beat a $6.00 bottle of champagne for mimosas. The only drawback is that they don't bring crafts of juice to the table. You have to utilize small glasses of juice from the food area. Show up when they first open at 10 am to get the best selection of food that is freshly prepared and the crowds haven't showed up yet. I made a reservation to celebrate my dad's birthday. The food is okay but we had a very bad experience with the bartender. We finished and stepped out when my Son realized that he left his backpack with his iPad, charger and headphone in the table so he returned to get it when the bartender told him that it was not his bag and took it away from him. My son explained to him that he was willing to confirm the items inside the bag even unlock the iPad to prove that it was his bag, the bartender don't believe him and stated that it was not his bag and that he was stealing the bag. That was a huge a accusation to a 12 year old. We came back to look for my son when we found him crying, my husband confronted the bartender and denied what it happened. It was a very unpleasant experience. The general manager apologized but my son was very frustrated that he bartender couldn't believe him. read more

Well this was an exciting trip! My wife's Grandma decided to bring us here for a quick happy hour before we headed back to Carlsbad and we liked the idea of sitting by the harbour watching the sunset. From there though things declined! While the parking was relatively easy, the restaurant itself is in a state of disrepair with the outside bar area that we went to in quite a disgusting shape. There were flies everywhere feasting on leftover food and drink, the table was well worn and dirty in need of a good clean/replacement. Our waitress was Andrea, I had a really tough time understanding her and I soon realised why. She wasn't nicely asking things but was giving me direct questions such as, "Happy hour or full menu?" "Your order?" I couldn't quite understand her being so brisk in conversation. She forgot parts of our order and when I asked for a teaspoon she refused to acknowledge me three times! The food was interesting, not in a good kind of way! My mussels on fries was little more than a kid size portion and the lack of freshness of the mussels was scary. I declined anymore food. A perfect happy hour visit on a foggy afternoon. The harbor setting is wonderful at sunset, but from the patio dining area the fog had its own charm. Generally high marks for the wide range we sampled from the fairly deep happy hour food menu. Their calamari was excellent. In fact, all of the seafood was very good....shrimp, oysters, and ceviche. Their chowder is the thickest I've sampled, and I enjoyed it. Drink menu and pricing is pretty much "happy hour typical." We arrived early (4:30) on a Monday, and walked right to a preferred table. My grandma and I had just arrived in Oceanside, and we needed food. We decided to eat here, as we were exploring and, as I said, required sustenance. We both got the fish and chips, and it was quite a big platter. Definitely a filling lunch. The fish was hot and very crispy, the cole slaw delicious, and the bread tasted fresh. I came here for dinner last week with my family and was not impressed. My wine glass smelled/tasted like the dishwasher and I had to pick a few food pieces off of the plate. These things I could have gotten over, but there's more. My scallops came out room temperature and my husband's steak was burnt. My aunt got the French dip and it was so fatty she had to send it back. They took the French dip off of her bill, but they didn't bring her a replacement or comp anything else. I made a reservation the morning of Father's Day for noon. We were seated promptly. Our waitress was pleasant and accommodating. We placed our drink orders then walked over to the buffet area. At first everything looks in place. After sitting down, I see something similar to refrigerated prepackaged "grilled" chicken breast slices instead of roasted or boiled chicken inside the chilaquiles. Everything in the dish, other than the "chicken," was delicious; although, it was giving me more enchilada casserole-y vibes. In the buffet line, I looked in to peek at the chicken and waffles. Initially the soggy bent waffles caught my eyes. When I looked over to its neighbor... and that pour bird. Rest its soul. He looked tired, sun-burnt, and dehydrated. I didn't look too close, that would've been weird, BUT from what I saw, it looked those refrigerated chicken breast slices dredged in a DARK coating. Zoink! Most of the desserts were brought in. I noticed the housemade dessert got most of the Sweet Toothun's love. The prime rib was lackluster, but wow! The creamy horseradish plus a smidge of the raw horseradish. Whoa. That'll do you in. The au jus tasted packaged. The previous times we dined at Oceanside Broiler, the buffets weren't filled with short-cuts. There was a lot of care and diligence taken in keeping the buffet area clean and replenished. Had the chicken in that chilaquiles been a natural form on chicken or not had any chicken in it, I likely wouldn't have started noticing all the other stuff. More importantly, my husband and I walked into the Father's Day Brunch thinking it'd be special. We left feeling like we ate their regular Sunday menu buffet. Well, that was interesting. We sat at the bar & had front row viewing of the pony-tailed male bartender. We watched in awe as he served someone their cocktail by holding on to the rim of the glass with his fingers. He immediately went to to the cash register & counted all the money. He proceeded to slice a cucumber with those same filthy hands. He held the blade of the knife with his dirty money hands while he tended to something else, then came back to cutting his cucumber which was slated for poor, unknowing victims. I mean customers. [insert barf emoji] The only food we consumed was a cup of clam chowder. Praise Jesus we didn't opt for the bigger sized bowl. There were two bites in total that had clam in it. The tiny square pieces of carrots & potatoes were reminiscent of a cheap gallon-sized can of pre-made chowder. But when my dining partner bit a few different times into a substance familiar to a flour/butter roux which had not been properly mixed/dissolved, we decided that gem of a soup may have actually been made in-house. The accompanying bag of standard soup crackers had a hole in them. We watched as their artichoke dip passed by on the way to another table. It was accompanied by bright green & red tortilla chips. Folks, those are not natural colors. Those are the ultimate cheap chips. The token redeeming quality which warranted this review's gracious two stars was that they had Mother Earth's Cali Creamin Creamsicle on draft which is hard to come by. And it was SO GOOD!! And although there was a void of cleanliness with the ponytail guy, the staff otherwise seemed to be very nice! read more

We returned from a late morning boat outing famished and were craving red meat, so we stopped in here for lunch since the restaurant was categorized as "Steak, Seafood." Sadly, steak was not on the menu for lunch, but our server did offer to bring a dinner menu for us to peruse. We ended up ordering a bunch of items from the happy hour menu, which was all pretty good except for the ceviche, which consisted of cooked fish mixed in pico de gallo. We saved this for our last evening meal of our vacation and it was a bit of a let-down. The fish and coffee were good but I think the sides are very lacking. The rice- which is the only choice- was bland and not worth eating. The vegetables were only slightly better. I think if you're going to have the same sides with all your fish entrees, you should try risotto or potatoes and season your vegetables. We shared a Caesar salad and it was fresh but obviously store bought croutons, and the dressing lacked flavor. Our wait staff was friendly and took good care of us, but I wouldn't go here again unless the menu improved. read more
