Our son and daughter-in-law were here from Austin, Texas and we wanted to take them out to a restaurant on the water. We were looking forward to seeing how The Broiler compared to the old Monterey Bay Canners. We could not have been more disappointed. Right from the beginning the experience was poor - they'd mistakenly cancelled our Open Table reservations because "someone else with your same LAST name had a reservation and had just called in to cancel." I asked why that should affect us and she was confused. Briefly the evening went like this: the harried waiter didn't show up for 10 min. and then to say he would be right back with us. He did come back rather promptly then to take drink orders. Those didn't show for many more minutes, only to be followed by the waiter (even more stressed) saying that the computer had gone down and he'd lost all his orders. We were sitting there with menus open, so we mentioned that we hadn't been able to order yet. This seemed to cheer him up and he promised to be right back. When the food finally arrived it was a mixed bag. Our "kids" had halibut with an excellent sauce, but had to ask for more sauce because it was served in a tiny paper cup that offered about a thimble-full. I had the poached salmon and could have skipped the salad I shared with my husband because that plate is half-salad. The menu nor the waiter made that clear. It was done well, and I enhanced it with some of the herb butter left from our bread serving. My husband's small steak was so-so, but this is not a steak restaurant. Our overall impression is that they don't have themselves organized yet, and they way over-charge for similar quality meals you can get elsewhere that include soup or salads. It was not a relaxing meal because the waiter's stress made you feel uncomfortable asking for anything like lemons for the water (that took forever because he said they'd run out of slices) and more sauce. I'll be glad to give a better review next time if they've improved, but that will be a while as there are too many other places on the water that offer beautiful scenery and serene ambiance. read more

My family and I ate here at Oceanside Broiler for dinner after spending a long hot day outdoors. Everything about our dinner experience was spot on! The hostess was friendly, the waitress was knowledgeable and accommodating, the food came out quickly even though it was a busy Saturday evening. The table bread with garlic butter was so good, there wasn't one piece left. Everything we ordered was delicious especially the filet mignon dinner. We sat inside but there seems to be a view of the water from pretty much anywhere in the restaurant and my kids really enjoyed the huge aquarium and being able to watch the colorful fish during dinner. The outside patio was very busy, I can't wait to go back and sit outside. It was the perfect ending to a fun family day! read more

Service was very fast and server was great. Food was just ok, and should be priced much lower for the quality. The fish was not fresh, but was frozen and I believe it was the same as what we get from Costco, so save some money and skip the grill marks and just buy it from Costco. The coleslaw was tasteless and without any type of dressing. The fish had no seasoning, not even butter? The rice was from a can/jar/bag? Seriously, the cooks should be ashamed of what they are doing, or should I say NOT doing. Sauce was from a can/jar/bag? Cesar salad was made with generic dressing. It is very easy to make a Cesar dressing, stop picking your nose and be a real cook. Did I mention the service was great? read more

Stopped in there for dinner after an early matinee. We were seated right away, but it took some time for the server to come over to get our drink order. After ordering our dinner, it took almost an hour to receive it. And, on top of it, the order was incorrect. During this time our server mentioned that the bread she was going to give us was taken by someone else and that we'd have to wait for a new batch to break (which showed up with the bill at the end). My own meal was just "okay". I had the teriyaki skewers, which the meat was cooked very well although the vegetables that came along with it were raw and inedible.No matter what we asked for, we didn't get it. From lemon to ketchup. The excuse for the ketchup was that a new "delivery" had come in and they couldn't get to it. It was a very frustrating experience. read more

This place is amazing - where else can you go and get wonderful happy hour appetizers for only $4 for 7 hours every afternoon. We had many, many items off of the menu and they were all wonderful. Some of our favorites - the margarita, bar burger which was a perfect size and came with cheese, bacon and wonderful fries, fried calamari was perfect, clam chowder was creamy and rich, chicken wraps were fresh and crisp and even the house salad was yummy with kalamata olives and feta cheese. We visited Oceanside for a month and went there two or three times a week. Our service was always terrific, the staff attentive and even Bernie the manager stopped by to make sure all was OK. Loved overlooking the harbor and watching the boats. Looking forward to our next visit to Oceanside. read more

The server was required to wait on 30 customers in the bar area. Although she did her best, it took 20 minutes to take our order and another 45 for it to be prepared and all but one of us ordered from the Happy Hour menu. The manager never stepped in to help her out and seemed very disinterested when we expressed our concerns. The food was average. There are plenty of other places to eat with similar views of the ocean. Try somewhere else where your business will be appreciated and the wait staff not overworked. read more

Finally we have found a restaurant where the food is just as spectacular as the views. The Broiler has a real relaxed and friendly vibe that made us feel right at home. The food was amazing and just how we ordered it. The staff was incredible, In fact I would like to personally thank our server for the night Kelsey she was amazing and even though the restaurant was busy she made our table feel as if we were her only table. She was on point and super friendly. I cannot tell you how many times I have been here, when it was Monterey Bay Canners and when they switched to Oside Broiler. Love the food, service and the location is superb. Never ever had a complain....till now... My husband and I and my brother and his girlfriend went in this past Saturday night. We enjoy sitting in the bar (no matter where we dine). It was about 8p and a bit crowded, the corner table was empty but had not been bussed. We got someone to clean it for us and sat down. We sat there about 5 min before a hussled acknowledgment from who I guess was our serve, "I'll be right with you". Another couple sat down at a table to the left of us and within minutes they were served bread and drink order taken. I got up from the table walked to the bar and ordered our four drinks. Bartender, Steve, said he would have the server bring our drinks. Oh she most certaintly did. Without a smile, a can I get you anything else, I'll be back to take your food order, etc. Rudest woman ever. So we discussed leaving, but I voted to stay, we were there, and hungry and always had a good experience there. But everybody else is no, they will taint our food, etc if you complain. But I insisted. So I once agAin got up and thought we would move into the restaurant area, so I requested to speak to the manager. Warren came out and I explained our situation and we would really prefer to stay in the bar. He said he would have her come right over, I said no thank you, I want somebody completely different as she clearly has an issue with us, being that it was the fact I went up to the bar after a much waited time to get our drinks, or what I don't know.. So he went to Steve, bartender, and poor guy, on top of all the drink orders to fill, he had us!! We were so appreciative to receive service but clearly Steve was a little over worked of running back n forth. Nonethless he did it flawlessly and my party agreed it was worth the stay. I am giving 5 stars because Warren and Steve turned our dislike back into love for the Oceanside Broiler... We will be back but I will always request a different server if the one chick is there. Never got her name, but I will not forget who she is... Thank you Warren for taking my issue seriously and Steve for the hussle. You both are appreciated. read more

Absolutely amazing Sunday Buffet. We had a large party of adults and kids, and things couldn't have gone better. Beautiful outside patio overlooking the marina, friendly and efficient service and terrific food. In addition to the typical buffet faire, we enjoyed fresh tuna sashimi, high quality cioppino, fresh salmon cooked multiple ways, and a wide variety of items to satisfy anyone. I have high expectations, and my expectations were exceeded. Rarely are such high quality items included in a buffet. The price is very fair for such an elaborate array of food, and the wonderful setting is a bonus. This will definitely be our go to place when visiting Oceanside. read more

When we arrived, we were seated promptly. There was a large party next to us that was very noisy and had young children. The noise made conversation difficult. After they left it was much better. My husband had the top sirloin that was cooked perfectly and was tender. He ordered fries, but got rice pilaf. The underbaked bread had some kind of oil or butter on the crust so you ended up having to wipe your hands after each bite. I had the broiled salmon that was exceptional. The seasoning on it was the best. My rice pilaf was just warm. Maybe it was waiting for the salmon to finish cooking as my fish was hot. Oh, well... We shared a flourless chocolate cake that was quite good. The waitstaff is generally pretty good here as it was this visit. However, it's probably a better place to come for their great Happy Hour appetizers on the patio and enjoy the harbor. read more

This is my first time in California, after checking in to my motel I went for a walk around the marina and then stopped in on my way back to my room. I entered at 8 PM, an hour before they closed and there was only 1 other table of guests in the dining room. The service was sub-par for as slow as it was and not very friendly or personable. The menu has a nice selection and after narrowing down my choices to two entrees I asked what she recommended. She recommended the more expensive of the two, and accepted. I ordered the wedge salad and it was decent, but not worth $7, I ordered the lemon Mahi Mahi, $26, for my entree and when it came out to the table it was cooked properly, but it was luke warm. The vegetables were cold. The server ignored my empty ice tea glass, making me have to ask for a refill. The ice tea is actually really good, but for $3.50 it would have been nice to have received more than 1 refill. I declined dessert, asking for my bill. 5 minutes later, the server is nowhere to be seen and still no bill. Another minute or 2 goes by and then an older, nicely dressed gentleman asks if I want dessert. No, I just want the check. He brings the check and before he can leave the table, I hand him a hundred dollar bill. He says he'll be right back with the change. My server reappears and tells me the guy will be right back with my change. 5 minutes later, I am starting to feel like a hostage, the server reappears again and tells me my change will be right out, as if she hadn't just told me the same thing a few minutes prior. read more

Service was good and prompt. Food was inconsistent. Ceviche was excellent and plentiful, but clam chowder had few clams and too many potatoes. Very hard to get good clam chowder anywhere. Lobster ravioli was a bit salty and lacked taste. Swordfish was fine and tasty as were the green beans. Wine pours were generous. Excellent location. I will return on a sunny day and sit outside sipping wine and eating the ceviche with chips. read more

We came in for the Sunday brunch and were met immediately by friendly staff. Having a reservation for 1:30 but arriving an hour early, we decided eventually to take a corner booth in the lounge, rather than wait for our table in the main dining room. Our party of 3 adults and two ten year olds were met immediately by our server, and she explained how the brunch worked. Our server was excellent. The food was good to very good. Food variety was more than adequate and well stocked even though we were there during the last hour of the brunch. With out a doubt, they have one of, if not the best, Claim Chowders any of us have ever tasted. Being a sailor and retired Oceanographer, my experience with coastal restaurants is extensive. Try the chowder. I struggled a bit with my rating between a 4 and 5, but decided when I included the value, it's inexpensive for harbor side , the staff, and cleanliness, a 5 was in order. read more

The steak, was beef jerky even though ordered medium. $310 for 7 people to eat dinner! I don't mind when it's delicious and well prepared, but what a disappointment. I loved this location when it was Monterey Bay cannery so thought I'd give the new restaurant in the same location a try. We had a reservation for lunch on Saturday and were seated promptly. The view of the harbor was lovely, but the tables were crowded together so that we had to move our table to pull out our chairs without hitting the chairs of other diners. It took awhile to get the coffee and water we ordered, and then even longer for the waitress to come back to take our order. It wasn't busy so this was mildly annoying. My daughter ordered fish tacos and I ordered the "freshly caught" Rockfish. She said her fish tacos were just okay. My fish was very bland, no taste at all, and the sauce it was in was watery. We sat on the patio and I was surprised that they had umbrellas up on a cloudy winter day and no heaters. The couple sitting next to us ordered a sandwich which looked good and a different fish dish and they were very happy with it, told the waitress it was an "explosion of flavor", so maybe we just didn't order their best dishes? Left hungry. A friend and I went for lunch today. I ordered the 1/2 sand w/soup or salad. The menu said it came with french fries, but it didn't. I did not want to complain and make my friend feel uncomfortable because it was her treat - so said nothing. I did notice others being served what looked like the same thing WITH the fries. The soup bowl looked okay, but seemed very shallow and not much in it. The 1/2 sand was okay. I was still hungry after eating. Now that I'm home, I went to the website and saw that what I ordered did in fact state it was supposed to have fries. How could both the cook and the waiter not notice the lack of fries? This is their job, they serve this several times a day, yet didn't notice the plate wasn't right? read more

I don't usually leave negative reviews on the other note I feel I need to leave my feedback. Sunday Mother's day dinner we decided to try this place for 1st time & not realizing it would be the last. The atmosphere was nice. Not too busy considering Mother's day. I ordered sirloin steak, mashed potatoes, asparagus. Simple but sounded good to me. I always get my steak medium rare. 3 other guest's all ordered different item's. When I received my plate looked good & taste good. I even took a pic to put on snap. Got home started feeling ill. Took a nap while after & was up all night long with I know tmi but....diarrhea non stop. I had to call out from work on Monday. I was up until next day Tuesday. I'm in medical field & kept flushing with h20 & Gatorade & crackers. Today Wednesday I returned back to work & better. My point some sort of contamination. Definitely unhealthy!!! I had food poisoning.............. You be the judge!!!! I been told to call & speak with manager at this point I don't think it would make a difference. read more

First time there. View was beautiful, perfect day. Lots of choices for brunch. However, the food wasn't very hot.....more like lukewarm. You have to get there early, before 12noon, if you want any of the king crab in the hot seafood dish. They ran out of crab around 12/12:30. The outdoor patios are awesome, one small one in the front and a large one in the back with a TV for sports and a bar. Only upgrade this large restaurants needs is larger flat screen TVs. Other than that, the food was good and the atmosphere was great. Oh, and new bright color carpet wouldn't hurt either. read more

My family was in Oceanside visiting and we had Sunday Brunch here. We sat outside and our waitress and other staff were genuinely friendly and most helpful. There were three adults and three children, twins age 1 and a 6-year old. Your staff was very accommodating and the food selection for children was excellent. Our meals were fantastic and I especially enjoyed the Eggs Benedict and the coconut salmon. We enjoyed the harbor and took our time dining...my nephew commented that he especially liked the fact that we were not rushed out of the restaurant. We tried most of the dishes and loved the desserts. We will spread the word and most definitely come back to the Broiler. Thank you for a lovely experience. read more
