WORST SERVICE EVER. This is my second time coming here this year with my family. My brother in law and sister come here quite often so they know the service is bad. We just brought my grandma here to see the ocean interior because that is why we come here, to enjoy the view. But to our bad luck, when we came this time, we found out that they got rid of the ocean interior so we couldn't enjoy that. Our server was Lucero who was rude to us, did not clean our table, put sushi tray/plate on top of dirty sushi plate/tray and DID NOT REFILL OUR WATER OR ANYTHING. She asked us if we wanted a refill when she brought us our check ONE HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES after we sat down to eat. A server from another table, Manny, was kind enough to clean our table twice and the person in the suit (I am guessing he is the assistant manager- he wears glasses) served our food twice because Lucero was no where in sight. We had dinner tonight in this seafood restaurant inside the Peppermill hotel casino. This was our second visit after many years since our last trip to Reno. The place is as beautiful as ever and the seafood as fresh as ever. Our server Chris Chang was personable , knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. After sharing an order of calamari we had our main courses of prawns scampi style and sushi. Everything was fresh and expertly prepared. We'll be back next time we are in Reno. read more

At check in to the hotel, we received a coupon for a free appetizer. We chose Buffalo Scampi (normally $13) and IT WAS SOOO GOOD! WOW! Their complementary bread was delicious as well, I was in heaven even from the start! For our entrees, we both ordered the 8oz Filet Mignon ($31). Entree is served with two sides. I got vegetables and these little potatoes (Would have been better with ketchup but didn't ask for some reason), my boyfriend got vegetables and rice. He enjoyed the rice, but I thought it was just okay. Now for the meat, it was amazing. The texture was just like a marshmallow, it was SO TENDER! Never have had better in my life. Our waiter, Sal, was an alright server. He had trouble hearing what we were saying some of the time and didn't care to refill our drinks after walking past our empty cups a few times. We have been here many times as I have family in Reno. It's a sight to see. But such a nasty manager. We had dinner with good wine...then they seated a family group with five, loud, unruly children in our midst...other similar couples around. Why do restaurants do this? When we complained, as we rushed out, older guy manager could barely get "sorry" out through clenched teeth. Yuk, really takes the edge off. Big disappointment. What could go wrong? Just about everything, and on top of it, they knew it was my birthday. We had to wait even though we had reservations. Bread never came even though others seated after us were getting bread. We had to ask the waitress for bread 2x and I told her that I hadn't eaten for 8 hours. When the bread was brought by Lester, we asked why it took so long and he said that he didn't bring it because we were talking. Really? The sourdough bread was AMAZING though. The first bite of my halibut was very tasty and so were the potatos. This ended when I found a hair in my food. The all you can eat sushi was WONDERUFL, even at 9:00pm! (They close at 10:00 by the way!) My husband had the tuna melt which was the best he has ever had. I came here with my sister and two other family members to celebrate my birthday. I had the AYCE, which really filled me up! Our server was Hannah and wow she was super sweet and so very accommodating. She was extremely attentive and constantly asked us how our food was. After we paid our bill, she warmly thanked us and then went home. So despite us being her last table, she didn't rush us at all, but instead made my family and I feel truly welcomed especially on my birthday. The food deserved 4 stars, but I'm giving Hannah all 5 stars for her amazing customer service skills! Because of her friendly smile and service, I think Oceano deserves 5 stars. I can see why the place rates 3 stars. The concept is great but too much emphasis on its hugeness. Waitress was average and not too attentive. She dropped off our food and then we didn't see much of her after that. She couldn't be bothered to clean our table of all of the little plates... The Oceano used to be the cheapest place in the Peppermill to get a burger-that is not the case anymore. Although I love the new decor-the service was awful. And when we commented on it we were very aggressively confronted by a manager named Miguel. He is the worst thing to happen the this place-so unprofessional. I came into Océano today, it was really busy, but the hostess Noemi was on top of her job and did an amazing job in seating other parties including my party of 4 as fast as possible. The wait was a little long, but she was great in making sure everything was running well. When seated our server Angelo was pleasant and did as much as he could to make sure we were satisfied. Went for all you can eat sushi, and the sushi was good and fast. Our waiter "Nate" was great and had good recommendations for Sushi rolls. I strongly recommend the 'Jackpot' and the 'upside down shrimp' rolls. The environment was very original and cool. I stopped in reno at oceano to gamble some money on the way down to the fiesta bowl to watch bsu play Arizona, just to get myself a free beer or two while gambling for a little while, when I saw the bartender, who was extremely enthusiastic with the customers (I believe his name was bobby) made me feel like I was back at my favorite bar back home in boise. My pregame drink before all bsu games for good luck is a bloody Mary, which may seem strange to some but it has always worked for good luck in boise!!!! It was by far the best service I can remember having in reno, because most just brush people off to get to their next customer, but bobby made me feel like I was back home, and clearly it worked because at the end of the game , bsu won!!! I give all the pre-game superstition credit to the bartender here. The next time my friends and I head to the fiesta bowl, I will highly recommend this bar to them!!! I stopped by Oceano for a quick lunch with my mom the other day. We had the best service! I ordered all you can eat sushi and asked them to recommend rolls for me. They had great selections! We enjoy the Peppermill, however we will not go back to Oceano. Perhaps it was shift change, but it wasn't that busy but it appeared to be social hour for the employees. We have been a frequent buyer of Sushi over the years at Oceano. Usually get to go orders. We order a number of different items but have always gotten Baked Alaska. It has been a year since we ate there and ordered baked Alaska to go and ate while we gambled. It was horrible: before they would put Salmon w crab piled on top and macadamia nuts. This time was just rice, small pieces of salmon. Very little macadamia nuts and NO CRAB!! We have ordered this same dish dozens of times. Apparently charging the same but cutting back on ingredients. I'm new to this whole Yelp thing, but I had such a great experience at oceano with my husband I decided to make an account. I was recommend to come to oceano by a Starbucks barista named Helen, who informed me that she also works at the seafood restaurant at the peppermill.But first let me start off by saying I've read the reviews, and the bad reviews are probably coming from those who have never worked in the food industry or ever been a waiter. As my husband is also a server, I've heard it all. I came into oceano on a Saturday night and it seemed to be a little busy and we were put on a 15 minute wait, but we got in a few minutes early. The hostess up in the front were very nice, as soon as you walk in it's like you're under the ocean. Our server was very helpful on answering our questions, my husbands favorite sushi roll was the baked Alaska, and the sour dough bread was to die for! Everything was just perfect.
