The Peppermill is our favorite place to stay in Reno and on our last trip we decided to try Oceano after eating at some of the other restaurants there. Boy, are we glad we did! The ambiance is beautiful. The huge video screens featuring breathtaking scenes from around the world make you feel immersed in each destination and create such a relaxing atmosphere. The service was outstanding. My husband ordered the all-you-can-eat sushi and absolutely loved it. I had the Caesar salad with Dungeness crab and it was incredible. The crab was fresh, delicious and they were very generous with it. We are heading back to the Peppermill next month and Oceano is definitely at the top of our list. Highly recommend!

Although we arrived a bit late, almostb9 pm, we appreciated that the staff welcomed us though they advised we might need to rush the orders a little. Our souls kids love the sushi all you can eat deal, so our gang of 6 took it. Our server promptly brought us drinks and food. To be honest, I was skeptical with sushi all you can eat, but once the food arrived, my concerns disappeared. Just looking at the ginger and wasabi tray, I could predict that it would be delicious and fresh. We couldn't believe that we ate everything including an extra bowl of clam chowder and a few scoops of Greenpeace ice cream. Hotel food is usually boring, but not at the Peppermill. Great job!

Chirashi bowl

The price reflects the quality of sushi here. It is delicious and made with care. The ambience is really nice and service is great. I don't think the chirashi bowl was worth the price, next time I will just go for the ayce instead. The salmon skin rolls were excellent.

Nice place in Peppermill. The AYCE is reasonably priced and always delicious. Service was excellent. The clam chowder was piping hot and so delicious

Dinner!

First time trying this dish and it was absolutely worth it The couscous was perfectly creamy, the vegetables were fresh and beautifully buttered, and the swordfish, salmon, and shrimp originally came out grilled. The first attempt was just a little on the dry side, but what impressed me most was how quickly and professionally they fixed it. The second version came out SPECTACULAR The fish was soft, juicy, and full of flavor almost poached style with a light lemon cream and white wine sauce that tied everything together perfectly They also serve incredible in-house made sourdough bread with house-made butter, and honestly... their sourdough and clam chowder rival some of the best I've had in San Francisco. Service was perfect from beginning to end, and the beautiful ambiance with Hawaiian seascapes playing across the large TV screens made the whole experience feel relaxing and upscale at the same time. One of those meals that feels elegant while still being total comfort food 10/10 for making it right and delivering such a great dining experience.

Hefty rolls and a 20% locals discount make Oceano a great bang for your buck ayce sushi spot. For $48 (20% off $39) you get so much amazing sushi options, miso soup, seaweed salad and yummy gelato all come included. I ate so much nigiri my favorite pieces were the yellowtail (hamachi) it was melt in your mouth buttery, the donald duck salmon and the charred tuna (tataki). Some of the nigiri pieces like the red snapper, mussels and my second salmon order were a bit on the tough and chewy side. One unagi was super fresh and hot and buttery but the other was not as fresh and lukewarm. The rice was lackluster too not high quality. The hot night rolls was yummy and hefty- too much imitation crab on top. Overall I would say Oceano is great value and a nice ambiance inside and good for Reno locals to try!

Visiting Reno a few days with LA friends. From SD. Been here before amazing seafood before. Didn't disappoint. Alex our server was also amazing. Now the food. Biggest and tasty bowl of chowder ever seen. Also sour dough bread. Delicious. Had seafood mix with shrimp , seafood tostado, salad with shrimp. All very good. Highly recommend

Big shout out to Jackie T. Great service- thank you. This is a beautiful restaurant and, unlike most restaurants in casinos , close to the door and parking lot so you don't have to wander around for half an hour to find it. I LOVE that. I'm allergic to shellfish but they have lots of fish choices too. For some reason I got a new York steak and am so happy- steak makes great leftovers. Good sautéed veggies that were not mushy - yay. I'll definitely be back.

Husband and I come here often. The last visit wasn't so great. Only because i have been dieting (glp) so I can't eat much. I did choose to do all you can eat sushi and was ok with paying the price even though I knew I wouldn't eat that much. I ordered one roll, my favorite here. The royal flush. It came out without the macadamia nuts. Ok, whatever right and I ordered one order of nigiri. I had 4-5 pieces of the roll left and got charged all you can eat AND for the long roll. Wth!! So way overcharged and wasn't even told or spoke to that she was going to do it. Fast forward to today. I ordered just a roll. Learned my lesson. Ordered the Bora Bora. Wrapped in cucumber and no rice. Just like eating sashimi with side of cucumber. This may be my new favorite now. There should be a menu for those who don't eat much, like a kiddie menu

Hannah is the best. We have come to enjoy her service. She is a great server. Very attentive to our needs. We love the restaurant and the beautiful pictures of places all over the world.

Great vibe, not loud but a good conversation space. The service was always great (went 3 times). You get a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to sushi. All you can eat is 37 until 3 the. 47 after 3. Each roll Is 15-17 do if you have an appetite this is your spot. The rolls were super good but the start of the show is that loaf of sourdough. Give me three of those. I recommend this place.

Due to construction in their parking lot and limited parking, we decided to dine here instead of leaving and risk not having somewhere to park upon our return. It was a Friday evening and everywhere was busy. We came by a little after 8pm and was quoted a 30-40 min wait time and I opted to be on their waitlist. Lucky for us, our wait was more like 15-20 minutes. The interior is bright & modern with 2 large screens on opposite sides that display travel destinations and locations. Seating was either in booths, at the bar, or tables with chairs. The noise level in here gets pretty loud due to the acoustics. We were seated and given menus on tablets. Water was given pretty quickly but the bread took a tad longer. Our waitress was friendly, explained the menu to us, and answered any questions we had (despite her being busy). My only critique re their AYCE is that it has one price for adults only. They don't have a separate price for children. She also kindly told me that their portions were big, so that was very helpful. I have not dined here in a number of years and their portions prior used to be smaller. Items ordered: 2x cup of clam chowder- Good flavor and plenty of clams Fish and Chips- Delicious, perfectly seasoned and battered and not dry! One of the best fish and chips I have had in a long time and it was a very pleasant surprise. Shrimp scampi- Delicious generous portion of pasta and shrimp. Chef's Mixed Grill- Loved the presentation and flavors of veggies and protein. The couscous had way too much parmesan and was literally stuck together. Def did not enjoy that texture or taste of the couscous. California Roll- I love that this roll has real crab and tastes so much better than the Ca rolls made with imitation crab. Chocolate ice cream- Always a fun treat for kiddo Thanks for the lovely dinner and atmosphere.

Sampler platter
Don

Love fish and chips, but their platter with the fried oyster and shrimp sets it off. Pair it with a good beverage and have a seat watching the screen of the world's images or having a good dinner companion makes this an excellent experience. Expensive Busy Sometimes order mishaps occur, but all in all an enjoyable dining experience. I have seen the Peppermills decor changes over 20+ years. The Océano is one of the best of their restaurants.

Ask the Community - Oceano

I cannot eat fish, but I love veggie sushi. I see none on the menu, though. Will they make them if requested for the ayce?

Siirii Our Sushi Chefs will make every effort to prepare veggie sushi upon request.

For AYCE, can you make substitutions like adding or taking stuff out?

Of course!!

Are Peppermill comp dollars accepted here?

Yes they are.

Will you guys be bringing back the all you can eat seafood menu?

Currently we offer AYCE Sushi.

If reservations are full will they still accommodate walk ins?

Yes. They will put walk-ins on their Wait list.

How much is AYCE for children age 5 and 7?

Oceano charges the same price for children as adults...$31.99/Lunch and $41.99/Dinner. Locals receive 20% off.

Can't find any mention on the Peppermill website, are they still doing their happy hour specials? ...🤙

Although we do not offer Happy Hour Specials, we do have Lunch Specials.

How much is the AYCE Sushi?

Please visit our website for our AYCE full menu: https://www.peppermillreno.com/dining/casual-dining/oceano Lunch $29.99 Dinner $39.99…

Are Reservations necessary?

Depends on when you are dining and how many in your party. Thursday thru Sunday nights, yes.

Is this a buffet?

Juan, although Oceano does offer "All You can Eat" Sushi, The Peppermill does not have a buffet.

Does oceano have soypaper that you can substitute on the sushi rolls?

Yes it does have soy paper. It must be requested. But I don't know if there's an extra charge.

Oceano is open Christmas Day 11am - 10pm...AYCE Lunch $28.99 Dinner $38.99. On Christmas seating is on a walk-in basis...

I saw that they had pho on the menu. How is the pho here?

There isn't much there that isn't good! There are different ways of making it, so it all depends on your taste though.

Is seating open at the sushi bar?

yes it is...

Does AYCE include oysters?

Wasn't in there AYCE menu

Are they doing all you can eat during covid?

Are they doing dine in?

Yes .all restaurants in peppermill are doing dine in . There is plexiglass between the booths and touchless menus.

How much is it for all you can eat?

When I visited about a month ago, AYCE was $34.99. However, there's rules attached, like no sharing with your partner (kinda obvious). Also, what they consider "premium" cuts of fish like Sashimi aren't included w/ AYCE. The couple next to me at…

Does the menu still have an all you can eat sushi portion? If so, are there any possible pictures?

Yes! They did when we went in late Summer anyway. It was very good!

I made a taco and the ground beef was seasoned perfectly! Meats: The roasted turkey and sausage were exceptional. The prime rib and steaks were overcooked and dry. Salads: I loved the variety of salad dressings available! Fruits were sparse. There was only watermelon available. Soups: Clam chowder & pho were delicious! Desserts: Tasty and the portions were too large. Recommend making the serving sizes smaller to decrease waste. I stumbled upon the horchata and Melon drink dispensers. What a great find. Very tasty and fresh! Service: Our table server was Mauricio. He made the dining experience so pleasant and we felt like a VIP. He was very attentive and served with pride and a genuine smile! This was our first time at this buffet. We were instructed that we earned a one free person meal but after looking at our bill, we did not receive the discount. We were a party of 12 but we were good with being assigned 3 separate tables. They were gracious to keep us in the same area. Thank you. Ambiance: Warm, inviting. The plates were very accessible. Booths were roomy and very comfortable. Recommend: Moving potatoes near the meats area. It was a difficult find. We will return! Thank you for your service. Rondez

I have lived in Reno for 13 years and I suspect I have eaten at Toucan Charlie's at least 50 times…read more I have long regarded as the 'to go' place for visitors. Well, not any more. I arrived at 1140. There were maybe six customers in front of me. It took 25 minutes to get seated. There had only one person checking in guests. There were 3-5 hosts waiting to get guests to their tables (I have never seen this before). Okay, let's get to the food. Birria dry and not much taste. Spanish rice was wet. Steamed clams were awful; the liquid was oily and smelled fishy. Ma Po tofu was cold and tasteless. Boiled shrimp were tiny. Orange (?) chicken was a little tough and did not have a lot of flavor. Pho was insipid. (Chinese) beef and mushroom was not tasty The only things up to the prior standard were the Smoked trout Sautéed cod Sesame ball Deserts were as expected. Service by Delphina was excellent as always. Even with 'the Monday locals discount,' the bill came to $82 for two, less tip. Given the drop in food quality, it is overpriced. I have eaten lunch at Golden Corral (in Maryland) where the food was more satisfying and cost 40% less. I won't be bringing my Reno guests here any more. So after many years of 5-star ratings, today, they get a 3-star rating.

It is also airy, light, and crispy. The crunch of the fish shattered lightly when you bite it without sticking heavily in your teeth. They also use a clean oil when frying the fish -- unlike other fish and chips I had in Lake Tahoe, burnt and the batter tasted old. The cod fish was hot, juicy, and flaky -- it really tasted good. I squeezed them with lemon and dip it in vinegar. Satisfyingly good! The clam chowder is packed with clam and not too heavily creamy -- it is just right. It brought back the time when I had a bowl of clam chowder in a restaurant in Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Served hot (how I prefer it), the chowder was full of flavor with Clams, Potatoes and I think some mushroom. I thought the texture had a nice creaminess to it. Some in our party didn't care for it, but for me, I thought it was pretty good. A friend had the Ceviche. A couple of Shrimp top the dish, but it is mostly tiny bay shrimp. Other than the larger shrimp, the dish was unremarkable and not worth the money. We moved on to the fried zucchini. This dish was fresh from the fryer and served freakin' hot. And I do mean freakin hot. The dish was fine, but a tad bit on the oily side. More on that later. All of the starters are just a fancy lead up to the main course. If you're going to do something well, it better be what you are known for. Smee's use 100% WILD ALASKA COD "Hook & Line", received from their Alaskan Leader fishing fleet. The fish is made fresh on every order. I will say the "fish" was pretty good, but I think the oil was either old or not at the righ temperature because the resulting dish was oily and just plain soggy. While served hot, it was a doughy, soggy mess. We hoped for more but Smee's did not deliver.

Joe is attentive, has an excellent wit, and he knows the food how it is prepared and uses this knowledge to make great recommendations. The restaurant is in a location that is easily overlooked. It is on South side of I-80 just past the tank farm in the Best Western Plus Hotel. I know you what you are thinking a hotel restaurant can't be anything special but I assure you, that you will not be disappointed with the service or the food quality. I think the owners must rent the kitchen from the hotel as it is definitely not just a coffee shop serving a few Italian dishes they have some real flair for flavors. We started out with the Artichoke appetizer served with greens and a charred lemon. It was spectacular and I can see why it was selling out, the flavors were bright with a lovely acid touch and a deep salinity that was just unexpected. Thank you Joe, for suggesting this and being able to describe it perfectly. I suggested they pair this with their side risotto as a main dish as the flavors would complement and while the risotto was perfectly wonderful, creamy, soft and oh so cheesy, it needed a slight punch of salt. Two of us had Chicken Piccata which were pieces of tender flatten chicken with a bright lemony sauce and fortunately for us, they did not spare the capers which gave the sauce a needed punch of salt. My only criticism is that it should have been served with a side of pasta rather than the mashed potatoes. If there would have been some pasta with that unctuous sauce along with the grilled asparagus (love that) and the chicken, this dish would have been a perfect 10. Now I love mashed potatoes, and they were good), they really had no place on a dish with a lemon sauce. My other dining companion had the Bolognese over spaghetti rather than rigatoni, and he pronounced it excellent, with a rich flavor that he felt was perfection. He felt that it could have used a touch of salt. The bread was extra but comes with refills and is a crunchy outside, soft inside demi loaf served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, delicious and perfect for sopping up every last morsel of the sauces. We finished the evening with gelato, the key lime pie and the cannoli. The gelato (salted caramel/coffee) was beautifully silky, the cannoli crunchy with a silky cinnamon scented cream, and a nice key lime pie that I wish has slightly more tang. But all were perfectly delicious. I intend to come again and introduce more friends to this unassuming location with great food. The ambiance was not the best keeping with a place that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a motel, but it was nice enough and very clean, maybe just not as romantic as other Italian restaurants in the area. But the food and Joe's will keep me coming back, he really does try harder, than his "participation star award" would suggest, this was obviously a joke! Thank you Joe, it was a truly fun evening with really good food. I will take pictures next time.
