This is a fair beach hotel. However everything advertised is completely less in real life. The pictures were great but everything we experienced was so much less. 1. The room was not in good condition. 2. Scrape marks on walls. 3. Lights out in the bathroom 4. Headboard torn off the wall. Artwork present in Ad was missing. See photos. 5. There was on the balcony an ashtray with an epic (it was huge!) cigar ash but I think it was cannabis ash as a gift. This had not been cleaned. 6. About 8 times out of 10 when opening our balcony we could smell some nasty skunk weed. Pretty gnarly. This was no mild strain, I can assure you. This smoke could walk on its own. Yuck! 7. The continental breakfast was on par with the vending machine fare in your local gas station. Coffee from those Bunnell coffee pots and danishes in wrappers. Pretty pedestrian. Not toxic, but nothing special. 8. Cheap plastic balcony furniture. Annoying but not devastating. 9. Maid service ran one day out of four. All the above said, 1. The staff was good about replacing the bathroom light quickly. 2. The view was great. The beach was right out the door. 3. The staff was friendly. We won't go there again, but we didn't die either. Love this place!! A hidden gem The rooms are nice, beds are comfy and all rooms are oceanfront with balconies. The staff is wonderful and the owners are top-notch! And to top it off, they brought us a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. I love this place. read more

Last minute trip with 2 teens before school starts back up. Stayed in the downstairs beach house. It was perfect for our family! Full fridge and kitchen. Everything was clean. 5 stars .... check in was quick less than 5 minutes. We had the jacuzzi room on the 3rd floor. The entire hotel is Oceanview. The room can be update as far as furniture and tv but the jacuzzi and shower is updated. The beach is less than a 1 minute walk. Hotel is walking distance to restaurants and Publix grocery store. Check in was across the street at another hotel because of lobby renovations or something. This isn't terrible, but there should be some communication about this prior to arrival (like on the website) so that travelers can plan accordingly. We came into town on Friday afternoon for a wedding weekend and there happened to be a nasty nor'easter moving through, so we had to swim through a parking lot and get soaked in the rain before traveling to a rehearsal dinner. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The view is spectacular! We stayed in a jacuzzi king room and the tub is good and deep. There was also enough hot water to fill it up, which was surprising. The shower is tiny though and there isn't a lot of water pressure. Also, there is a weird shutter that opens between the bathroom and bed, with a direct view of the toilet. Even when you close the shutter, you're gonna hear everything in the bathroom. Overall, great view, weird room features, but clean and cozy. read more

We absolutely loved our stay here. Yes, because of remodeling you have to check in at their sister hotel one block over, but check in couldn't have been easier and the manager was friendly and helpful. Our room, 206, was clean, fully stocked with towels, coffee, and toiletries. Everything was perfectly clean. We had a fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. There is an elevator so no hauling suitcases up flights of stairs. When we needed a few more toiletries the maid saw to it that we got all we needed. The view of the ocean when the sun is coming up is beautiful. read more

Well, to be fair: she wasn't dead, merely dazed from the incompetently furnished rooms and the sheer dreariness that is the Atlantic in June. (Gulf coast and fuck the rest, yo) Let's be honest: I'm reluctantly a budget traveler and thus, am not the best judge. This place was available and I haven't been eaten by bedbugs yet. I made reservations online and then a couple of days later I called them with a question I had about our upcoming stay. Forget communication with these people, it is non-existant. It was the same way 2 years ago when I stayed at their other hotel across the street, The Magic Beach Motel. There is absolutely no telephone communication no matter how many voice mails you leave. The registration clerk and housekeeping staff were very friendly. Otherwise, the hotel was ok. It's not the Hilton for sure but it's do-able. The rooms were reasonably clean and it's in a very good location. The view of the ocean was fantastic and the sunrises unbelievable both which made it very much worth the stay for me. There is a short boardwalk from the parking lot to the beach. I left the balcony doors open and listened to the sound of the waves all night. I definitely would not have a problem staying here again. read more

Had to check in across the street at another hotel due to lobby renovations; nice front desk staff; hospitable staff; cozy room; really loved the view of the ocean from the nice sized, clean balcony; loved the jaccuzi tub in the bathroom; did not care for the tight space in the shower and no place to sit shower gel/body wash/soap, nor for the sink being outside of the bathroom, nor the dryer being stationed right next to the microwave on the sink, nor the curtains that seemed to be thrown up in a haphazard way; could use a few updates/renovations due to some rust spots in the bathroom. Additionally, dealing with the television was very frustrating; there was a type-written guide for the channels, but quite a few of the channels showed a message of "not authorized"; probably shouldn't list the channel on the sheet if not able to watch it; was always a delay when changing channels, in addition to a delay with the sound; fortunately, we didn't do a lot of channel surfing. read more

The manager was a rude beaver nugget. They downgraded our room due to air conditioning issues and didn't discount us. Our bed broke, they didn't fix it and tried to charge us 150 dollars. We had to sleep on a pullout couch. Our room had no plates, no forks and no utensils to cook with. read more

Our Goddaughter's fiancé booked the 3rd floor suite in the Oceanview Lodge for the wedding night and first night of their honeymoon. On arrival he realized that the pictures he saw online were not this property. There were homeless people in the parking lot and the lobby was not well kept. The disappointed groom was told when making the reservation that the Oceanview offered room service, he wanted a special experience for his new bride. He knew this lobby was in no way a full service hotel and asked again if room service is available, not seeing a restaurant. The front desk clerk, Jessie reassured him they had room service, stating they fluff the pillows and bring towels if needed. Already skeptical the newlyweds asked to see the room, Jessie led them to the 3rd floor room using the stairs saying it would be faster than the elevator. The room was more disappointing than the lobby, the bedding and carpet had stains, and in no way resembled the website pictures. The couple returned to the front desk with Jessie and requested that he make this right by asking for a refund. He argued and said that "they should have done more research". He finally agreed to provide a 50% refund, even after he was shown the erroneous website information and pictures. You can see from my other reviews that I like to recognize and recommend good hotel and resort properties. The Oceanview Lodge does not live up to the image on their website, the property needs to be refreshed and the staff needs customer service training! read more

This place is a hidden gem! Not the newest, biggest hotel but right on the beach and AMAZING views. Publix is within walking distance and as close as this hotel is to the beach as it is surprisingly quiet! You do have to check in at the hotel next door and it was not a big deal, man at the desk was helpful and nice. Highly recommend, would stay again read more

This place needs to go out of business until they renovate their rooms. The foul odor that smacks you in the face from Hr moment you walk in will burn your nostrils and make your eyes watery. Bathtub dirty and stained. We checked in and checked right on out, with 2 small toddlers. After driving several hours to get to St. Augustine we were hungry and tired but could not stay in this place. Hotel did not refund us for the 2 nights even tho' we explained that the place was in terrible conditions. We lost $500 dollars with this place and there's pretty much nothing we can do about this according to the front desk clerk. read more

Clean, recently renovated rooms and comfortable beds for a great price. I've stayed in higher end hotels and the beds weren't nearly as comfortable. We opted for the first floor, still a nice ocean front view. The only bad thing is the a/c unit is quite loud, but it kept the room cool. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. read more

Horrible! The lady at the desk wasn't friendly at all. My daughter and I needed to use the restroom and she was reluctant to let us use it even though we have a reservation there. Mind you we are only 30 minutes early to our reservation. I don't feel good about giving my business to this place. The only thing appealing about it is the walk to the beach. The "breakfast" is mostly processed items with nothing fresh besides the fruit. You've been warned! read more

This is a wonderful hotel especially the Jacuzzi room. But, they may have maybe the MEANEST manager I have seen at a hotel. It is a shame (because the place is wonderful) and is hurting their business. Completely and totally unaccommodating. I took a group of people here who stayed in different rooms and they all said they had the same ferlngs. If they would replace the manager or give her some serious training then I would give it high ratings. It needs to be pointed out because she is hurting this places business and reputation. If you are black or Hispanic check in after 6pm and avoid checkout! Bobbi shouldn't be allowed to go home, she is wonderful! My husband and I checked in a day after check in and she upgraded us to the 3rd floor for a better view. She told us we could check out at noon the latest. Only advised us to inform the morning staff. She was very polite, professional, and very friendly. I wish I could say the same about the morning person. We went to have continental breakfast and I sensed the difference in treatment compared to the other guests around me (all white American.) We just grabbed a few things and went to the room to eat. When we got to the room we realized we left the key in the room, had to go see the front desk person again. I was actually dreading it. She gave me a key, but barely made any eye contact and seemed aloof and bothered by my request. I debated on giving a good tip or a normal tip to our housekeeper but I left a good tip because I gave the rest of the staff the benefit of the doubt. One person shouldn't have to pay for someone else's nasty attitude. Management should hire someone more open minded and friendly in the front desk for the morning or pay Bobbi more and have her work it. Impression is made within the first 30 seconds of greeting somebody and my impression of the morning front desk person was that of a bigoted intolerant individual that should not be dealing with the public in the 21st Century and a company that promotes that kind of behavior is asking to get sued at the very least. I must say that I was disappointed to see that racism is alive and well in St. Augustine Beach in 2020. read more

This review is long overdue! Can't say enough great things about Ocean View Lodge. The location is perfect and just a few steps from the beach. All rooms have an oceanfront facing room! Even though it's by public access to the beach at night it's very quiet since there's no parking after a certain time. Within walking distance of Beaches at Vilano, a super fun and great restaurant. Ocean View is 3 miles away from beautiful historic St. Augustine. The rooms were very clean, staff was nice and can't beat free breakfast. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend! read more

Not worth the price. Old and rundown. Bent towel bar, hole in the door, rusted metal, cracked lamp shade, sliding glass door that was very difficult to open, ratty chair cushions, dirty/stained walls and furniture. Location was great. There are other hotels nearby that seem to be nicer and for about the same price. Will NOT be going back there unless they drop the price by half. read more

I was very disappointed in the service there. Stayed for a week and the room was rarely cleaned. After repeated complaints they still have lousy service. They claimed they were too busy because it was during New Years holidays. Totally unacceptable. Even when we got new towels they were dirty. I would NEVER go back there! It was a "no frills" roof and 4 thin walls. The hotel was under construction and there was no staff to redirect you, but a badly written note to go to their sister property to check in after walking across two parking lots. The view is oceanfront, but there is a nice public beach but there is public parking lot and access to help the view out. We stayed on the top floor hoping for some peace and quiet. Every time a door was slammed, I mean, shut, the front wall shook. The room wasn't much better, they actually had a futon, yes, you read that right, a futon, for a couch. There was no exhaust fan in the shower, and at the beach humidity is very high. The bed and pillows served almost no purpose, unless you are married to a chiropractor. There was a glass door, that at one time probably did slide, but alas it was past its sell by date. You could sort of push it open, but had to lift it to close and "lock" it. Then again, there is a pool, albeit the smallest hotel pool, I have ever seen. It was 3 and a half feet in the shallow end, but take 5 steps to the opposite side for the deep end of 4 and a half feet. Housekeeping staff was friendly and helpful front desk fellow was also great. My advice is spend a few dollars more for a better experience. read more

This is a wonderful place!!! We had so much fun. The location is outrageously awesome!!! Several miles from historic downtown, a Publix grocery (check out their deli subs), a fun restaurant Puccini's within walking distance, and friendly, warm staff! It may seem like hey I don't want to overlook a parking lot but it was of no matter. We could see and hear the ocean just fine and the parking is strictly enforced and in three nights not one car was left in that lot. I didn't see any problems on the beach either I think law enforcement has a tight hold on Vilano Beach and kudos to them (I once lived on another Florida beach that was way out of control with riff raff so I appreciate this!) the continental breakfast is all you need to get started in the AM. My only complaint with the hotel is I can't make my reservations for next year yet on booking!!! Love love love and thanks! I want to add, the room was clean and housekeeping very nice. I liked the size of the pool and it is a great place for kids! read more

We really loved staying at this location. The beach is so close to walk to and the view from the room was amazing!! The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful! The flowers around the lodge are very pretty. You can tell the staff works hard to keep the place up. The only thing we didn't like is that the beach allows dogs and that really grossed me out. It's a public beach though, the owners can't do anything to fix that. We would stay again! read more

The room was nice. The view was lovely and the bathroom was clean. However, management is extremely rude. Each time someone walks in the room for breakfast, she scowls and asks your room #. Yes, it's to be expected but not professional. I called to ask if we had to pay for parking (after booking our room) and the lady replied "No", abruptly and hung up the phone. After our morning at the beach, the shower/ pool gate was locked all day and we couldn't access it to shower. read more

Our goddaughter and her fiancé had a reservation for their wedding night and when they got there to check in they were shocked to see homeless people all around the hotel and the lobby did not look like the pictures in the website. Based on the inside appearance of the hotel they decided to check out the room before committing. When then went to the room ( which they walked up 3 flights per the managers suggestion) they were horrified at what they found! There were stains on the bedding and the small sofa in the room and a smell that was unpleasant. They decided this was not the place for them and they told the night manager it was not what they expected for $239.00 a night. This certainly was not wedding night quality! Her fiancé was embarrassed because he wanted to surprise her with a special romantic night! The night manager was rude and told him he should have done better research... that is why we are writing this unfavorable review! You should do more research and not stay here! After speaking with the owner, Remy, she decided to give the kids 1/2 their money back, but we haven't seen it yet! read more

The hotel itself should have been a lot cleaner and nicer for the price. The rooms smelled like they had mildew and we could tell it hadn't been aired out. The towels on our first day had obviously been sitting there for a while, because they were moist like the rest of the room. The management could not have been worse. We had a clogged toilet in the middle of the night and had to ring the bell in the office for service. When the MANAGER opened the door and we explained the problem, she opened her door and threw a toilet plunger at my brother. The views were okay from the first floor room we had but the service was simply horrendous. This manager needs a refresher on how to treat people. read more
