This place was absolutely perfect for Nights of Lights! We wanted to experience the event in St. Augustine but heard that parking during this time can be a nightmare, so we looked for a hotel or Airbnb within walking distance of the historic downtown area. Most options were either sold out or priced at $800+ per night, so we felt incredibly lucky to find availability at Marker 8 Hotel and Marina for $360/night. The hotel was wonderful. The staff was warm, friendly, and welcoming. They greeted us with big smiles, provided a map of the town, and even offered restaurant recommendations. The location, though, was definitely the highlight. The hotel sits right next to the bridge that leads directly into downtown. They even have a private gate that opens onto the walkway, making access incredibly convenient. We loved being able to stay in a quiet, uncrowded area while still being just a short walk (1/2 mile) from all the excitement. Parking was also a positive experience. We arrived around 3:30 p.m., and the lot was mostly empty, allowing us to park right in front of our room. By around 8 p.m., the lot did fill up, so guests arriving later may want to be mindful of that. Our room was very clean, and the king bed was super comfy. Some of the furniture, particularly the bathroom shelving, was a bit dated, but everything was well-maintained and spotless, so we had no complaints. One of our favorite features was the beautiful view from the patio. The sunset from our room was breathtaking! Our room faced the marina, so we loved walking out to the pier to see the boats and watch the sea life in the water. The weather was perfect, so we took full advantage of exploring the marina area. Overall, we loved this hotel and would absolutely return. The location could not have been better for enjoying Nights of Lights. read more

This hotel was amazing! I went Christmas eve. When I arrive the staff was very friendly. Also they mentioned that from 5 to 6pm they have a social hour where you get free appetizers. That time they had teriyaki chicken, chips, cheese and some vegetables. The room I stayed had an amazing view to the bridge. At night it looks amazing! The breakfast was also delicious. I got a delicious dessert with strawberries, and some shrimp. Everything was really good! I'm definitely going back to this hotel. 100% read more

Poor service and unreasonable cancellation fee I tried to get basic information about the slips, approach, and dock assistance before my stay. The staff member who answered the phone was short with me and said it "wasn't her department." When I asked for someone who could answer those questions, she told me to "go to the website," even though the number I called was the only one listed. The interaction didn't inspire confidence in leaving my boat there, so I cancelled less than 48 hours after booking. I was then charged an almost $400 cancellation fee, which feels excessive and out of line with other marinas. Cruisers should be aware of the customer service issues and the steep penalty for cancelling. I'd recommend choosing another stop. read more

This is truly a gem. The hotel and grounds are immaculate, the rooms are a little basic, but clean and comfortable with a the best view in all of St. Augustine. The friendliest, most welcoming staff we've had the pleasure of dealing with in a long time. Very knowledgeable of the city and made wonderful suggestions about restaurants and attractions. Short, beautiful walk over the Bring of Lions to Historic area. Never had to fight the traffic or try to find a parking spot. We parked our car right in front of our room for the duration of our stay. The view from our room was beautiful, it walked out to the marina and overlooked the Historic area and the Holiday lights. They offer a full, delicious complementary breakfast in a dining room with the most amazing view of the bay. Afternoon snacks are also served and are just as delicious. By far this is one of the most amazing hotel experiences I have had. 5 starts doesnt even give it justice! This place is one of a kind to say the least. From the very beginning, before even getting there, I had great experience booking. I would not want to stay anywhere else if I'm in the are again. One of a kind experience is how I can describe the beauty and how outstanding this place was. I stumbled upon this hotel by chance and I'm glad I did, it was also the very last room available! I got lucky!!! It's a hotel at the base of the bridge, you can see it when you driving on the bridge. Its really quiet, has an outstanding team of people. We were greeted upon getting there, told there is hors d'oevures from 5-6 which were absolutely DELICIOUS!! There is a heated jacuzzi/pool which was amazing overlooking the marina which was sooooo relaxing!! The next morning, the breakfast is something else!!! Had the Ricotta Blintz with wild berry reduction!! OMG the best thing I've tasted!!! Then had the garden fresh soufflé and that was phenomenal! The ladies were outstanding, I met the Chef and thanked them for the outstanding meal! The check in, checkout, parking, customer service, experience, food, room, everything was beyond what I had expected. you can walk the bridge to the other side, it wont even take long and the view is amazing! Marker 8 is on the east side of the Matanzas river at the southern base of the Bridge of Lions in St Augustine. It has some beautiful views of the river, the bridge and downtown SA (across the river) - the latter two beautifully lit at night, especially during the holiday season. The rooms were clean - the bathroom was newly renovated with a rain shower. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were terrible. The second floor room had a small balcony facing the marina (which Marker 8 owns) and the water. The included breakfast was good and served until 930, and our server was very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, Hurricane Ian and Nicole flooded the first floor and they were doing repair work during the morning, which was not only very loud, but the construction team generated a cloud of dust which I had to wash off my car with a hose. They also have a heated pool with a deck, though we didn't have an opportunity to use it. There's a very convenient private, keyed door leading directly to the bridge walkway, though it closed pretty early at 10pm. Marker 8 also has a rooftop deck where you can see the old fortress across the river. The elevator moves up and down the two floors about as fast as a snail. read more

We stumbled upon this place by chance. It's a small hotel at the base of the bridge of lions - island side. Fantastic location! We walked to a few bars in the evening and over the bridge and around the historic area the following morning. The staff was incredibly friendly and efficient. Everything seems recently renovated and clean. We had a view of the marina and bridge from our patio. When we checked in they were serving complimentary hors d'oeuvres in the small bar area. On the second floor they have a restaurant where they serve a complementary breakfast. - we opted for room service. The breakfast was better than expected... see picture The pool is small but nice. Our go to hotel when visiting St. Augustine. It's a small quiet hotel across the bridge of lions from the busy tourist side of town. This hotel has no pool, so I don't think we've ever seen a kid here. They have a very nice breakfast and hors d'oeuvres (included) each day. The staff is top notch. The wife and I have been here two years in a row for spring break and will be back next year hopefully. Beautiful view of the bridge and boats. Highly recommended! Tip - Get an upstairs room of possible. Less foot traffic on the boardwalk, more privacy, and a better view. read more

I had such a wonderful stay at this hotel. The customer service was amazing. The breakfast was delicious. They have a set menu to choose food items from. I'm not able to eat dairy and asked for fruit bowl instead for my appetizer and they were able to swap that for me which I very much appreciated. The view from my hotel room was gorgeous even though it was cloudy and rainy that whole weekend. Because it was so rainy and I still wanted to walk around and explore downtown I asked the concierge about parking and they told me about their sister hotel that was closer to downtown and recommended I park there. That turned out to be a life saver because it was pouring rain for much of the day that day so when my friend and I were finally ready to head back, it saved us time in the rain so we could get to our cars and blast the heaters ASAP. This hotel and the employees here really helped overall with making my St. Augustine trip a great, memorable one. read more

I did not realize that there was an expiration date on it so I called to ask if they would still honor it and was told NO!!!! So they have over $200 of what I believe is mine!!!! We stayed at Marker 8 Hotel and Marina for four nights here during our trip to St. Augustine, from Sep 5-8, 2021. Excellent idea! The hotel is small, but the room was large and comfortable and very clean. We had a view of the harbor from the room. Parking was spacious and convenient, and the hotel was right across the bridge from all the historical sights of the city. Additionally the dining room served breakfast every morning, which we had. Limited menu, but delicious. The deck on the back has a pool and jacuzzi and tables. Views of the bay from the room and dining room, especially during morning breakfast are very nice. Front desk staff very courteous and helped us plan our trip with maps and advice. Overall highly recommend and would stay again. read more

We stayed here for one reason and that it was designated as a Select Registry property. This is the gold standard for premium, boutique inns, motels, hotels. There are only a few hundred in the USA. We could not have been more disappointed. The good-the staff at front desk were always very friendly, and helpful with local recommendations. The staff at Captain Jacks, the restaurant upstairs serving breakfast were hard working friendly servers. The location was right on the Mantazanas river, with beautiful views of the sunset and looking out over Saint Augustine from our 2nd floor room. Very nice outdoor seating off the lobby area to enjoy a book or cocktail from bar. They also served a daily complimentary hot breakfast each morning from the second floor restaurant with beautiful views which was included in our room rate of $320 each night. We stayed 3 nights. The bad: The location! Right on A1A main artery and directly below the Lions bridge. The road noise from trucks, motorcycles and the local bar across the street kept us awake. The walls between the guest rooms are very thin. We could hear the TV and conversations from the guests on each side of us. The room was in dire need of fresh paint, and a deep cleaning. I understand that staff is stretched but there is no excuse for not cleaning, or painting or doing simple repairs. Not at a room rate of $330 plus and a hotel that is a member Select Registry. The baseboards were filthy in our room. While the bedroom & bathroom was spacious the paint was tired and chipping off walls and baseboards were dirty and needed painting. There were also Cobwebs on ceiling in bedroom. The AC wall a very old wall unit that did not have an automatic shut off feature. So we would either be too cold or too warm. Finally, we opened the sliding patio door to get some fresh air into the room. The patio off our 2nd floor room had two chairs that we enjoyed sitting at but the exterior of the patio was very tired. Plus there were ashtrays which we thought was odd for a non smoking property until the guest in the room next to ours was smoking from his patio. The Captains Room was a beautiful setting serving a fresh daily breakfast but there were sections on the ceiling where the sheet rock was peeling/needed painting and repair. This hotel has pluses and negatives but it is not even close to being a Select Registry property. I can only think that SR needs to grow their revenue by adding more hotels, whereas hotel owners must pay a substantial annual fee to join. Apparently SR has lowered their standards and can no longer be counted on as the Gold Standard for travelers seeking a premium, unique, comfortable, clean setting that exceeds expectations and offers an extraordinary value and experience. read more

This may very well be an excellent place to stay but we never got the chance to find out. Had a Vietnam Reunion scheduled but was given a price that changed significantly higher. The girl (Gina) blamed it on "Corporate" but I told her if she did not have the authority to negotiate the price she should not have been negotiating. Will never do business there again. I picked this place for the location and the view, which was absolutely stunning. It's a quick walk over the lions gate bridge to the historic district so getting around was easy for us. Nearby are plenty of little bars and restaurants - most of which are adjusting to COVID quite well. The hotel itself was recently redone and so everything's brand spanking new. Every single detail is marine themed which was a nice touch. Comfortable beds, great pillows, every single room has a view so you just can't go wrong here. The pool area was surprisingly empty most of the time. They have a pool spa (sp?) which is like a hot tub that is sized like a small pool. The room included some free drinks and breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to pick from any beer in the bar and drank Stellas while watching sunset. To our surprise the service here was impeccable - as you'll read about later - and during sunset with our free drinks we were greeted with frozen grapes and fresh cold towels. The breakfast was probably worth a review in and of itself - I normally skip the "free breakfast" at hotels but this was actually unique, freshly cooked, delicious and once more the service impeccable. So let's talk about the service - every single contact we made with hotel staff was excellent. From the first call to get a feel for what we can expect due to COVID we were greeted with Ritz style helpfulness and friendliness. The checkin process was perfect. The time spent in common areas were pleasantly enhanced by the staff. The breakfast service was on point. Even the house keeping crew was extra friendly and polite. The highlight in service of our stay was John, who worked tirelessly to make sure every single element of our stay was perfect. He even pulled us a full place setting (cloth napkin, plate and silverware) from the restaurant when we asked for some plastic ware due to a grub hub order that failed to deliver any. Long story short this place was amazing and a top choice for when we visit the area again. read more

I really wanted to like this hotel. It has great views of the city across the water. Its location just across the bridge is good. It is a half mile walk but doable instead of having to search for parking in the city. The room is nice and we liked the balcony. The staff at the front desk were great, mostly. I have a dairy allergy. The breakfast that they are known for is extremely dairy focused. When we called and asked if they could accommodate the issue we were assured they could. This was not true. The chef did not put any real effort into producing a reasonable alternative. She decide a fruit plate would work. The pineapple was good. There was a pile of mint with suspicious black spots (dirt?) on it. Who eats mint leaves for breakfast? The melon and strawberries were not close to ripe or edible. If I wanted an egg it would have been an extra charge. The bowl for the tea bag was dirty. The staff made no real effort to correct this; despite my speaking with several of them about it. We will not be back to Marker 8. read more

Marker 8 Hotel is a special little place in St. Augustine. The best part of the hotel is the staff- they are all so incredibly friendly and truly seemed to be interested in making sure your stay is comfortable and relaxing. It is a no frill place and is boutique in the best kind of way. Being at the foot of the Lions Bridge means that you can easily make it to Anastasia Beach, the Light House, and the Alligator Farm. It is an easy walk over the bridge to the Historic District. This was key- we wanted the quiet separation from the Historic District. The breakfast was good and we enjoyed being able to slowly wake up and walk to the breakfast room where we could look out over the water. Our room was quaint, comfortable, and clean. We walked into birthday balloons and confetti to help celebrate my husband! So fun! The only issue is that we had a palm tree right in front of our balcony and blocked the view of the marina and the sunset (room #207). Sitting on the balcony was great, but we had to strain to look around the palm trees. Ha! What a problem to have. read more

I pulled in and asked if they had vacancy, the manager was in and gave me an unsolicited discount on a king room. The rooms are renovated, clean and comfortable. Spectacular view of marina and old town at augestine across the river. Located steps from the lions bridge it's a ten minute stroll to old town. Your stay comes with complimentary breakfast. A delicious breakfast. I encountered four different staff in my two days. All of them strives to delight me as a customer. When I need another vacation I will come back to Marker 8! read more

We were sad we only got to spend one night at this very cool hotel during our weekend visit to St. Augustine. We were in a waterfront view room and the views were absolutely breathtaking! The room was very clean and elegantly decorated with a nautical theme. Even the shower was very cool with a modern rainfall shower head and handheld spray. They even provided makeup removal hand towels which I thought were a nice touch. Lastly, the hotel not only provided great service and gorgeous views, we were given vouchers for a free evening glass of wine and free breakfast in the morning! My husband and I went here to celebrate our 5th anniversary. I cannot imagine staying anywhere better in Saint Augustine... the BEST part is the view. The view of the harbor and the bridge of lions is breathtaking. I could have sat there all day watching the boats. The second best part is that you can easily walk from the hotel across the bridge of Lions to historic saint Augustine. You are near the best part of saint Augustine when you stay here. Other hotels may be in the historic district but there is no way you will get such a good view. The rooms are decorated in a nautical theme which is done in a very classy way. The staff were all extremely friendly and I was even given a tour when we checked in. If you choose to stay here, make sure you go to GAS restaurant right next door... it's much more delicious than it sounds. read more

I would be remiss if I did not mention the in-room MAKEUP REMOVER towelettes. I smartly packed eye makeup remover but forgot it in the car. The Amenities include MAKEUP REMOVER so the error of my ways (leaving something out in the car) did not adversely impact my stay. Very well thought out Amenities. read more

We spent 3 nights at the Marker 8 in September. We had an upstairs king room. The view is just stunning. Sitting on the balcony looking over the water to Saint Augustine is priceless. It's quiet and peaceful. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The daily made to order breakfast is phenomenal. It is literally the best breakfast in town. The nightly wine and cheese is another perk not to be missed. I have stayed at several hotels in Saint Augustine and this is truly a hidden gem. I'm not sure if I got this down 100%, but as I understand it...Hurricane Matthew ripped this place a new one in 2016. They were in the midst of getting it back on its feet when Irma came through and did her own number. Finally, around mid-Nov ('17) they were able to open their doors to guests again. Marker 8 is a little motel-ish place right at the foot of the Bridge of Lions. I say motel-ish because although the place is set up like a motel (park in front of your room, enter from the outside) everything about it is like a nice boutique hotel. Upgraded fixtures in the bathroom, flat screen tvs in the bedroom, clean coats of fresh paint adorn the walls which are also decorated with a nautical theme throughout the property. I can't tell you how much this place exceeded any expectation I had. A nice manager's cocktail hour from 5-6 where you can enjoy complimentary beers/wines with other guests, as well as assorted hot and cold appetizers. Lots of new deck furniture surround a modest (but well-heated) swimming pool and modern fire pit. In the morning, you get an absolutely amazing made to order breakfast overlooking the bridge and the the river. They were offering peaches and cream waffles as well as two kinds of breakfast souffles when we were there. Attention to detail not only in the food but the plating as well. Location is about as good as it gets, really. Just a 5 minute walk across the bridge finds you smack dab in the heart of historic St. Augustine...just a few blocks shy of The Castillo de San Marcos. We visited for the Night of Lights celebration, out of our patio doors (each room is either a balcony or patio looking out onto the water) we could see them lit up in all their holiday glory. The staff was friendly and attentive, the accommodations were all updated and comfortable, the complimentary breakfast and cocktail hour were unexpected touches. After checking in we went to get our luggage and when coming back through there is a gate which requires your room key to open, the guy behind the desk saw us coming and ran outside from behind the desk to open the gate for us.
