Fantastic spot right on the beach! Quaint place to stay and take in the beach air! It is a beach house that has been converted into a hotel. I loved my room and it was completely ocean front. The lobby and breakfast area is small. So just take that into account. Private parking on-site. It is a homemade breakfast btw and was really good! Cookies in the lobby and a lot of southern hospitality! Many great restaurants in the area, a Publix all in walking distance! I highly recommend! The beach does get busy on the weekends and so does the traffic! Just be prepared for that! read more

The beach cats, the cleanliness of the room, the ocean front view and the homemade/family feel breakfast made us never want to leave. I've been desperately wanting to come back but the prices aren't friendly for us. I've even tried to win in raffles to stay! :( Which makes me sad because they deserve our money. Make a point whenever we go to Vilano to visit the hotel just to reminisce. Honestly, it was such a lovely experience, if we could get married here we would! We love y'all and the staff! Cabinets are old looking They could use a better covering for the sliding glass door. It looks like an old cheap curtain. It needs more of a sun blocking device. The bathroom is a tight fit and the door is translucent. Too much can be seen if you don't want it to be seen Breakfast is okay. No dining room so you have to pick up your food. What a beautiful spot. Pet friendly and with absolutely fantastic view of sunrises. This is an old school place. No elevator - three stories, quaint and quiet. Full of plants and outside guard cats. Small kitchenettes with almost everything you will need. Walkable neighborhood with a Publix's very close. There is a daily breakfast and dessert. They were all really good- that Mexican casserole I could have eaten that and pineapple upside down cake all week. They have beach chairs and umbrellas for your use. Towels for you and dog children. This is our new go-to spot to stay in St. Augustine! We were celebrating my husband's birthday, and wanted to find something on the beach that was dog-friendly. From the very beginning, the staff at the Beach House was easy to work with and took the time to ensure there were some special touches for our stay. We requested a 3rd floor room (which we got), and it was so nice being able to start and end the day on our private balcony overlooking the beach and ocean. The birthday treat was a nice touch, too. For those bringing your furry friends, there is a small fenced in grassy area and several dog waste bags and garbage locations. They also include a pet kit in the rooms, including extra towels to wipe off your dog and spare bedding to cover the furniture. Our pup especially loved going out on the balcony with us and enjoyed the sea breeze. Would definitely recommend the St. Augustine Beach House (whether you decide to bring your furry friends or not) and we will absolutely return. read more

Perfect beach front dog friendly hotel! Just perfect. We had a long weekend and absolutely enjoyed this hotel and staff. The location is perfect with a fabulous view of the beach and ocean. Located right next to an access point for the beach. We stayed in a corner studio on the third floor. The room was clean, bright, and spacious. It was my husband, myself, a corgi, and a german shepherd and we had more space than expected. There is a kitchenette with a good size fridge, microwave, toaster, and sink. Dishes are supplied along with k-cups for the coffee maker. Bathroom was a good size with a shower than can fit 2 people. Shampoo, conditioner, and soap were supplied. The bed was comfortable and a king. Balcony was enough for us to relax looking over the beach. Breakfast is included, tasty, and hot! The menu rotates each day a bit and we made all of our selections at the start of our stay. They supply beach chairs, beach towels, and towels for dogs if requested. They have a small fenced in dog yard as well as a wash station for dogs along with humans. Cannot wait to visit again and this will be our future must stay when in Saint Augustine. read more

You know those reviews you're reluctant to write because you are torn between the business continuing to do well and the business getting too overloaded and you won't be able to get in yourself? Well, this is one of them. Decided on Saint Augustine as it is dog friendly and our twelve-year-old dog just had knee surgery, (so I really didn't want to leave her home). We needed to escape our cold northern winter just for a bit, (compounded COVID lock downs, of course.) I cannot believe how lucky we are to have found this place!!!! They are beyond dog friendly, even providing a bow tied package of a beach towel and linens for our dog. They do ask that you cover the furniture, if your dog will be on it, (which is more than fair). We stayed on the 1st floor which was more than fine. While the views of the ocean are probably better on the 2nd or 3rd floor, I would caution that there is not an elevator. Again our dog had knee surgery, so we didn't want to lift her up 1 to 2 floors, (and, by "we", I mean my husband). So we opted for a first floor. The views were absolutely spectacular, nonetheless. I hope that one palm tree grows fast, as that was our obstruction, haha. The beach, which we walked on several times, was very dog friendly. I would note that on one side of the beach, they do allow 4 by 4s to drive. Now, there is a separated area for vehicles and humans, so we found no issue. Watching the sunrise in the morning was not an issue from the first floor. We visited in late February, so it was on the cooler side ( relatively speaking....it was -10 F with wind chill where we came from, sooooo... its relative. This is NOT a hotel in the conventional sense, but, as the name indicates this is a beach house. So, to point out, there is no room service, for example. But, they do offer a freshly made breakfast. Due to COVID, you pick it up at a window, and bring it back to your room. The selection included breakfast casseroles. I told them I was Celiac, and they were more than accommodating. For that I THANK YOU AGAIN. Typically, breakfast included an egg/casserole dish or eggs, meats and fruit and a dessert. Juices, milk, etc. While we did not partake in the deserts, my husband could see them from the side and they looked great. Hubby was definitely reconsidering his thought about nit selecting dessert. The Room is basically a studio condo with an adorable little bocony which seats 2 and a dog perfectly. It includes a small kitchenette with a microwave, coffee maker, medium size fridge/ freezer, sink and plates, cups, wine glasses, silverware- all for 3. The bed was extremely comfortable for me, a bit on the hard side for my husband, but he was fine. There was also a day bed, so technically the room holds 3. The Room was exceptionally clean, with tile throughout, ( which looked like hardwood). Personally, I prefer hardflooring to carpeting in any room- just cleaner, IMO. The shower was more than spacious. Although, I would note that as we traveled down South, everywhere we stayed, the water pressure was a bit lighter than what we're used to at home. The staff was be and helpful, and so accommodating. I note that this is a family owned business, and not under a flag. I wish them the greatest success, and hope for openings next year when we come back again!! read more

Whoa. When my fiance booked this hotel for Memorial Day Weekend, we were instantly excited to check out of our normal day to day routine and spend a relaxing weekend on the beach. When we pulled into the Saint Augustine Beach House, it was just what we expected and what we both needed. The front staff quickly checked us in and directed us to our room on the third floor. We entered our room, which was extremely spacious, clean, and well-lit. The balcony faced the beach - which we spent a lot of time just watching and resting. The hotel was extremely quaint and dog-friendly, too! They have a dog run and provide you with doggy bedsheets, towels, etc to ensure your pets even have a great vacation. The beach house had access to their own parking - which was so nice that you don't have to worry about your car all weekend. They provided breakfast, which we had for 2 days and it was phenomenal. We were SO sad to check out, but have made a pact that we will 100% be back every year for an annual Memorial Weekend trip. Thanks for such an amazing experience. read more

First came here several years ago and delighted in the place and still do . Always clean, nice friendly service too. Love the angled balconies - newly redone complete w new barstool height heavy duty chairs and table . Can't beat the location either . Speaking of location - this was a sleepy little corner . The mega hotel Corporations have been slowly eroding that . Now between the new Hyatt, Hampton inn, holiday inn, etc the beach and area in general have started crowding up. Oh well- still better than further down the coast - and dog friendly too. Here it's very dog friendly . You'd be surprised to know the entire structure was built as bolted together storage containers . Yes ! Dog friendly, and ocean front were our priorities when booking. Service was excellent, the included breakfast was not what I was expecting. I was thinking Costco muffins and canned fruit which is what generally happens when breakfast is included. Not here!!! Fresh breakfast casseroles, eggs, meats, and fresh fruits are just some of the options you can pre order. Room was clean, well furnished and they give you daily maid service (which other chain higher priced properties are doing away with), and included linens and towels specifically for the dogs to use. The place is very surprising. The outside of the building is not that great to look at, but the rooms were great. We were there over the week before Christmas and Covid still had restrictions. Breakfast was order ahead and pick up to eat in your room. We got what we requested room wise and had our 2 small dogs. They were very attentive to our needs. We also experienced a bad storm and were not allowed down by the ocean which was fine since we had the view from our sliding glass doors. There are lots of small beach type shops you can walk to or you can drive into the town. We had never traveled over Christmas vacation and will not do that again due to the crowds. We could hear the ocean and walking to it is super close. The sunsets were amazing. Never got up early enough to see the sun rise over the ocean. Few tiny shells only. Perfect location on the beach and welcoming my paw friends make this top on my list. Not to mention the friendliest, people pleasers staff ever. They hustle here to take care of you, unlike your normal chain hotel. No breakfast but they have coffee and a kitchenette. Just steps away is great breakfast and lunch cafe. Decor is not up to date but you don't care because it is clean, private balconies you do not have to see your neighbor, rooms are big, guess they use to be condos. New owners are slowly fixing the place up and you can tell it is loved and well maintained. I am so thrilled to find this place and will def return with my furry babies. read more

We stayed here in May and absolutely loved it. They had even had towels and blankets for our dog. (Who unfortunately we had to drive back home because he was scared of the stairs.) My husband and I had a great time there. We watched the surfers from our room. We went to a bunch of local restaurants and shops, and walked along the beach. Our room was on the second floor and had a nice balcony with a view of the ocean, we also had a view from one of the corner windows as well. It had a cute little day bed, and kitchenette, along with a king size bed.I also can't forget to mention all the cute little beach cats they had. As well as the complimentary breakfast that you get. Writing this review makes me sad because I am rooting for small/individual owned businesses. To start with the positives, there are nice touches such as a beautiful container garden of succulents, hibiscus and other tropical foliage. Additionally you can't beat the beautiful frontage on Vilano beach. However, you can't really enjoy the pleasant plantings and sit out as it is all cramped on a tiny, noisy parking lot that was under construction. The included breakfast was disappointing quality and served on ancient plastic hospital style trays to be eaten alone in your room as their dining are (if they have one) is also "under construction." The walls are incredibly thin, so enjoy hearing the cleaners early and your neighbors constantly. Cabinets are in poor repair and some simply bolted shut. Also bathroom is tiny and uncomfortable. If you are on a romantic getaway away, enjoy the glass bathroom door view straight into the toilet of your beloved meeting nature's call. Also be sure to bring bottled water as they have skimped on water softener and faucet and shower smell like rotten eggs. We booked for their more expensive rooms I was assured, which they said would include a king bed. Bed was queen sized along with a built in plank bed for kids (which we don't have). Silverware included but no plates, drying wrack or stove top, so you couldn't really make use of the kitchen. Most of their mugs did not fit the coffee machine they provided. Incredibly stingy on the towels, The balcony was extraordinarily tiny with two amazingly uncomfortable high chairs crammed in to sit on. If a chair tilted, you could go right over the edge. Glad I didn't book for kids. The AC unit was quite loud and the bed was uncomfortable and chilly bed with doilies for covers. I did not have one solid's night rest there. We picked this place to come with our dogs. But the pet run area was overrun with painful burs that I spent a while cutting out of my dogs' fur, so that area was useless. I was told was we would be refunded a pet fee for the parking lot construction inconvenience which seems to start at 7ish. But we ended up leaving early because it was all just so inconvenience and uncomfortable. I was so looking forward to a special anniversary getaway. This was not it. The beach is gorgeous. If I ever came back in future, I'd stay at the Hampton Inn across the street for a third the price, or the Hyatt which is under construction. Sadly this place really needs to up its game. Room was basically clean. 2 stars for effort and location. read more

My husband and I have been coming here since I discovered it before we were married. We have always loved this place, since it's off-the-beaten-path, affordable, beachfront, and small. We always considered it to be our romantic go-to spot that we kind of didn't want to tell anyone about. Although this was always a five-star experience for me, it has been less so lately. The location is still amazing. However, the price has been steadily increasing to the point where it isn't exactly the value it once was. But, I get it - renovations have been done and perhaps the secret is out, despite my best efforts. However, customer service isn't as lovely as I once remember, and on our last stay, the teeny tiny bathroom bothered me more than I remembered and the room smelled kind of damp. This is still our go-to for the area, but felt our recent disappointments were worth finally reviewing. read more

The hotel was exactly as I expected from the Web site, and reviews. Comfortable and great location. What I didn't expect, was a burst pipe (or a pipe needing repair) directly in front of the hotel obstructing the view of the ocean, also closing the beach for vehicles. The heavy equipment lights and backup beepers went on all night right outside our window. (Not the fault of the establishment) We also had unseasonably cold weather so we didn't get to enjoy the beach at all. (again, not the fault of the establishment) What I would really like is a "do over", and I'd love to bring my dog, because this hotel and whole area is very pet friendly, which I am not use to, and I love! read more

Updating my previous review - all the Pros from the previous review still stand - nice room, good bed, nice location. The Cons from my previous review got dealt with - there were hangers in the closet, they did clean my room, and nobody treated me like a freak for traveling alone this time. So that was all better. And the breakfast was good - they just should present it as "we have a buffet with hot items and cereal/oatmeal/fruit". Because it was totally doable even for a fussy vegetarian like me. The only issue I had this trip was that the mini-fridge in my room didn't keep things cold and also leaked water inside, so some leftovers that I was planning to eat had to be abandoned. read more

Dog-owners, this is the perfect spot for you and your canine companions. I stayed here (in fact, I'm still here) for three nights with my golden retriever, and man is this place great. I think what it might be is that the staff is so friendly and accommodating, and they do an exceptional job of making their guests and dogs feel welcome. They're all really nice people, and it shows that they care about doing a great job. That being said, it has a very family business feel to it all around. This hotel is right on the beach, so coming back for lunch (or if it's too hot for the four-leggers after a while) is a snap. They even have a hose and a foot shower for rinsing off. Homemade breakfast is included, and afternoon tea and snacks are also offered from 4 to 7. The suite we've had is very spacious, and even being on the ground floor we had a lovely view of the dunes and ocean. I'm sure the second and third floor suites have an even better view! St. Augustine town is an easy ten-minute drive, and over this way across the bridge you definitely avoid the crowds. It's very laid back here, which includes the beach. No spring-breakers, as far as I could tell (might also be late in the season for that crowd). There are a few decent restaurants along the strip here, and Publix supermarket is literally across the street. Easy, easy, easy here. Absolutely beautiful location. My husband, mother and I drove over for the weekend with our two dachshunds. I was in the market for a beautiful view of the beach (for my mom, who was visiting from MO) and a pet friendly hotel that wouldn't give everybody fleas. I can ABSOLUTELY recommend the St. Augustine Beach House for all of the above. The rooms were spacious, clean, beautifully remodeled and had a stunning view of the beach. After checking me in, the receptionist walked me to the door and gave a short tour of the room. The staff was super friendly and eager to recommend pet friendly restaurants in the Vilano Beach area or the Historic District. Apparently we now get an additional discount on all of our return visits. I would absolutely stay here again. read more

I almost don't want to give the secret away! This hotel was perfect for us. We were able to bring out dog for a great pet fee. We were right on the beach too! I loved the balcony. We had a kitchenette and pull out couch too. Our air conditioner was acting strange and kept kicking on and off all night but I think there was a power outage to blame. We were super bummed that every time we needed ice- there was none. Our fridge wasn't cold when we got there so we had to buy our own ice at the Publix. Which is within walking distance. We were close enough to the sites to enjoy them but still had a beach view. I loved this. The breakfast wasn't too good- eggos, bagels, toast, eggs, oatmeal, cereal, pretty much it. We did a short "in-state vacation" and were in Saint Augustine from Monday 06/29/2015 through Thursday morning 07/02/2015. We booked our room over the phone and Phillip was very accommodating and professional. We ended up over at the Gardens (just a short walk from the main hotel), but boy was that a blessing. The room was very large and gave us plenty of space for the dog and kid. In our room there were no closets or wardrobes, so be prepared for that. The bathrooms were small and even "tight". Furnishings were comfortable, although I would have liked an easy chair or recliner in order to watch TV (the room was lager enough to handle it comfortably). If you stay at the Garden, you have to get your ice, breakfast, and any "special" request needs from the main hotel. One of the greatest highlights was the breakfasts cooked by Janie. My wife stated she would move in permanently just for that. Janie's cooking was very impressive, and her demeanor was fantastic; customer service at its finest. This is not your ordinary "free" hotel breakfast. The location of the Beach House and the Gardens is perfect. You are a five minute drive to down town and 15 minutes to Saint Augustine Beach. The Publix supermarket, restaurants, fishing pier and of course, the beach are in walking distance (5 minutes or less) from either locations. We were able to receive decent rates for our stay. There are cheaper hotels in the area that accommodate pets, but this was by far the best bang for our buck. read more

This is definitely one of the best places to stay in saint augustine. From the moment we checked in the staff was more than friendly and helpful. I really have nothing negative to say. The decor is modern, there's a kitchenette, the view is magnificent, I have direct access to the beach, and our dog was welcomed with open arms. Oh and might I add location, location, location! Easy access to everything and there's a publix just a 2 minute walk from the hotel. Needless to say we will never stay anywhere else whole visiting saint augustine. read more

We actually stayed at the sister hotel down the street and loved it!!!! Both hotels are dog friendly so that is why we stayed there... The Vilano gardens inn was a cute little remodeled old motel, rooms were very nice and clean... The breakfast in the morning is at the other hotel and is AMAZING!!!! The beach is also dog friendly and our dogs had a blast! Only a five minute car ride into old town Saint Augustine from here... It was really a perfect vacation... Can't wait to come back! read more

Found this gem on yelp! We wanted a quick overnight on the beach where we could sit on the deck and watch the sunrise. This was a quaint little place right on the beach. It was clean, easy parking, nice bathroom, comfy bed and wonderful homemade breakfast. It's was lovely weather to have breakfast on the deck overlooking the beach. The staff is about as friendly as you can get! We loved our overnight and would love to come back again. This is very dog friendly.... so we did have a barker beside us. He barked for a few hours... but settled for the night. You also may find dog hair in your room- not a problem for us, but could be for those with allergies. The room had a nice king size bed, a couch, and day bed for any extra people in your group.The room was clean and fresh and the bathroom was modern so it made the wash of the sea water an easy experience. The amenities of breakfast in morning, which was great tasting hot food each day, and the hidden foot wash for hotel guest use to get sand off was a nice touch. The room also had a lovely terrace view, great to people watch and take a relaxing look at the sunrise. Around the area are a few restaurants, a Publix at easy access, and 20 minute drive from the historic areas of St.Augustine.
