Tryp by Wyndham is a hotel in St. Augustine that I think is a hit or miss. My biggest tip: CALL the hotel in advance and have them guarantee you a room away from the road. Otherwise you'll be in a room that is filled with traffic noise. My family stayed on a Sunday night and I booked the room directly from the hotel website. My biggest complaint is the traffic noise. I read a couple reviews about this and requested a room away from the road when I booked. When we got to the hotel they said that every room on the quiet side was occupied. I was upset and asked if a higher floor would be better as they did have those. The staff member assured me that when they placed our room they would have given me the best at that time. We ended up on a second floor room that felt like we were on a drag race strip. This did not help me sleep and I was up most of the night tossing and turning. The room also did not appear to be two queen beds as booked but rather two fulls. Or have hotel beds shrunk and I am just now learning this? It also had a shower instead of a tub which was not good for my toddler to take a bath. This was my mistake for not researching that more as I thought be the photos it looked like they did have them. The room was spacious and came with a mini fridge and microwave. There is free self parking at the hotel. Since the hotel is at least a 15 minutes walk downtown, they offer a shuttle that takes you there although we didn't use it. Overall, I would not stay at this hotel again unless I could be guaranteed a room away from the road. I'm surprised at all of the good reviews on Yelp but maybe they got better rooms or are heavy sleepers. read more

5 stars for the staff, large rooms and location just outside of downtown. I was a little miffed by the 4pm check in but in Covid times I guess you want them to take the extra time to clean the rooms properly. The room itself was great. Nice sized, with comfy beds and pillows. The bathroom had me concerned because the sink didn't look like it was cleaned. There was a small chunk of toothpaste in the sink and some spots which made me wonder if the rest of the room had been cleaned thoroughly. There was also a used coffee k cup in the machine and the drip area was wet with old coffee. We mentioned it to the front desk on our way out to dinner and when we returned just before 10pm we were told we could switch rooms. I didn't want to pack and unpack all over again. We declined as we were tired and just wanted to go to sleep. Thank God for the small sink in the main room because that's what we used. In the morning we got up to shower only to find there really wasn't hot water. Two lukewarm showers later we were frustrated and checked out. We weren't asked how our stay was by the front desk so we didn't ask if hot water has been an issue. We won't be staying here again. read more

So happy with this hotel! We just had a bad experience checking in to the previous hotel and the Tryp by Wyndham was able to accommodate us last minute. The room is clean, nicely air conditioned, and spacious suite. Beds are soft and comfortable as well as all linens look and smell clean. read more

The Hotel completely misrepresented itself. As stated but not true, no lounge or restaurant, no beach towels or umbrellas, not a working elevator or hot tub. Customer service was absolutely horrible when I inquired about a balance in the elevator and I had to walk five flights of steps to leave with my luggage without a courtesy call from them. The floor in the room was real gummy and I saw a roach at the coffee station. The lady at the desk named Jennifer was probably one of the rudest people in any hotel I've ever been to in my entire life and I travel a lot. Put a real damper on my trip! read more

I debated not staying in the heart of downtown St. Augustine but in retrospect, I do not regret it one bit. The best thing about this hotel is the plentiful free parking which is a luxury in this city. It's is just on the other side of the bridge and is within walking distance of everything in the DT area. You can also easily Uber into town a lot faster and cheaper than looking for and paying for parking. The check-in process was smooth. The staff was very friendly. Everything seemed very clean. The rooms were huge, our included 2 beds, a desk, a couch and a large wet bar area with a microwave and fridge. The bathroom was also very spacious and modern. The only negative thing was that on the second night our neighbors had an altercation in the hallway and the cops were called to kick them out of the hotel. Solid choice for a St. Augustine weekend. The hotel is brightly colored and located on the main drag just SW of the bridge to historic St. A. Location: five stars. Walking distance to the fantastic Ice Plant bar *must visit if you're into craft cocktails and bangin food* and Whetstone chocolates. It's a 25 minute walk to your sites - Flagler College, Columbia Restaurant, Ghost Tours, etc. Room: brightly colored, generous space for the two queen bed. We got a room with a wraparound balcony which didn't have a view but was very nice to have. Comes with microwave, fridge, Keurig with coffee and tea, two robes, complimentary toiletries, shower-only with grab bar, plenty of towels. Things I didn't like: the two pillows on the bed are SO THICK. I had to crane my neck up to place my head on the pillows so it felt unnatural and the second night I just slept flat on the bed. They were thick like a bed set cover you see at a store. Pool Area: small patio pool at the back of the building. Nice chairs and pool loungers. I went out at 4pm Saturday and it wasn't crowded at all. Things I didn't like: there's only SIX pool loungers for the whole space. The rest are chair / table sets. This results in people moving loungers noisily from one side of the patio to the other if you're chasing the last bits of the sun. By 6pm the patio is fully in the shade. Breakfast: $10 for adults, $6 for kids, and definitely worth it! See pictures! No complaints. Attentive service. Tasty food. It's a great opportunity to take an Apple, Orange, muffin, bottle water to go. Overall, would definitely consider as a place to stay again! read more

Wowowowow. Love this hotel and our weekend stay here. Front service people, GREAT. They were super friendly and accommodating. All the workers here were very nice and polite. The room was SO nice. Our room had a kitchen, bathroom, couches, office space, and two queen beds (comfiest beds ever btw) One side of the hotel is the road and the other side is overseeing the water by downtown. Wow! I'm so glad I booked here when planning my last-minute weekend trip to St.Augustine. I'm assuming that this hotel is brand new because there aren't any reviews on Yelp and only a few online... this hotel is definitely going to grow in popularity in no time. This hotel is immaculately clean, spacious, and has an excellent staff. When you enter the hotel, there is an area where you can grab some fruit-infused water (nice touch). I went to the front desk and was greeted by a very friendly man (I believe his name was Matthew).. I had arrived too early and my room wasn't ready, but Matthew took my phone number and said he'd call me once it was ready for me. I decided to take that free time as an opportunity to explore the Old City area (conveniently 1/2 a mile away!!) I strolled around, grabbed lunch, did some sight seeing, and got a call stating my room was ready. When I checked in, I was greeted by Dillon and his big smile and friendly personality! Check-in was beyond simple and I was sooooooooo impressed when I heard I had a room on the top floor (5th floor) with a view of the water.. gorgeous. The room was huge and everything was NEW! Great stay, clean rooms. My wife is very picky in terms of cleanliness. She told me that this was the cleanest hotel we've stayed in. Absolutely no hair or particles in the bathroom. Front service what very accommodation, breakfast was decent, but the lady running it made it pleasant. Overall a great stay as we enjoyed the "As if" 90s festivals. Stayed for a weekend from Orlando and recommend this hotel for at least a long weekend. It has a nice mix of couples and families. Enjoyed the free WiFi, free parking, and free breakfast that hotels.com offers ($10 value per person). The rooms are some of the largest I have seen in any hotel and I've visited at least 200 hotels in the last five years. The double queen room has a microwave, fridge, keurig machine, tea and coffee. It also has a frigid AC which is a welcome reprieve from Florida heat. Additionally it has a table and chair and a large lounge chair for reading or, you guessed it, lounging. The bathroom is a shower only but the hot water lasted at least an hour, which is impressive. Two bath robes are in the room as well and were terry cloth but comfy. Within a 15 minute walk you can get to Whetstone Chocolate and this awesome cocktail bar - Ice Plant (little spendy but worth it). Breakfast was awesome, filling, with eggs, croissant sandwiches, sausage links, home fries, biscuits and gravy, grits, and oatmeal. Additionally, you can take cereals, fruits, Activia yogurt and bottled water to go. Front desk staff is great, friendly, and knowledgeable about the area. The area shuttle is $3 per person each way and runs from 9:30am to 4:30pm. They partner with a local driver who will pick you up and drop off anywhere on the main tourist circuit. Ask for details. My daughter and I have been so impressed by the staff's friendliness and willing to please. Front desk was so nice by giving us a free appetizer to a local place while our room was getting ready. Our room was very clean. WiFi was free and fast. Most of all, Russell was our server in the bar. He was so accommodating and awesome to talk to. We had chili fries that hit the spot. This was a nice hotel. Check in was easy & the attendants that we came across at the front desk were pleasant. We are Radisson reward members & it states that breakfast comes with our room, but it did not. We informed the front desk to change that on the web page. The room was clean, minus some long & dark hairs in the shower. We had a nice view of the water, a view of the beautiful building tops across the bridge & the Light House in the distance. The pool is a salt water pool & very nice. No working hot tub, but this is the 2nd hotel that we seen this. Our 2 main complaints are, our bed mattress was hard, that neither of us slept well the 2 nights we stayed & the shower did NOT have a safety mat inside. When we showered, it was a bit slippery. We stayed one night in St Augustine and it was our first experience with a Wyndham TRYP. The location was fine, overlooking the River and the city skyline on the other side. The area felt safe with a mixture of smaller businesses and residential areas. You could walk to the city but it was a bit far for us (about 1-1/2 mi). The room was simply decorated, spacious, very clean and huge. It would be really great for a family of 4 because it had 2 comfy beds, a sofa, several counters for luggage and a large counter with a microwave, Kuerig coffee maker and under counter fridge. The lobby staff were following all Covid precautions. We would definitely stay here again. read more

This was a pretty new hotel. It was clean and fresh. The rooms were very spacious. We were greeted by an incredibly helpful front desk check-in person, Karen, who got us set-up with all of our tours. The buffet breakfast was well worth the discount offered at check-in. They had everything you might want (within reason) and the waitresses were very friendly and helpful. I had never heard of the "Tryp" chain before and I will be sure to be on the lookout for one on my next adventure. read more

December 2018 quick stop after visiting family in Boca and heading home. Ashley at the front desk was very helpful. Room very clean, linens laundered properly (most hotels err on simple laundering) room had spacious feel. Bed and pillows perfectly comfy. Mary and Carol were very gracious at breakfast. We don't usually prefer to spend this much on quick, mid-travel stops, but it was well worth it for an excellent night's sleep in clean environment. Kudos. Note that I usually do not usually read 5 star reviews so don't like to post them as I assume discerning readers also ignore them. PLEASE DO NOT BE DECEIVED!! We paid $395 for one nights stay at TRYP in St. Augustine FL and the rooms carpet smelt like urine and the facility looks like a converted nursing home. I believe this to be true because some of offices/rooms were labeled "library" "reading room" There was no lounge or restaurant but there was a small cafeteria ran by 1 man, Ryan. This is/was the worse hotel I have ever stayed in for the money we paid. At checkin I asked if I could use my AAA discount or if they allow law enforcement or military discounts? I was told they do but I would need to call Expedia. We paid almost $400 for this room and I honestly could have gotten better service & nicer accommodations at the motel 6. This hotel is wonderful with large comfortable rooms, a great lobby area, exercise rooms, pool, and all the basics. It's close to the downtown historic area and has beautiful views of a lovey marina. THE most disappointing hotel stay of all time. When I booked, I requested a room for 2 adults and 3 children. We were given a "2 Bed Family Suite". There were 2 beds, and a couch big enough to fit one adult sighting upright. There was no microwave, no kitchenette in this "suite", just an empty mini fridge and a sink that would fit in a camper. When I realized the room wasn't quite big enough to sleep my family, I called the front desk. I spent almost $400 on this "suite" and they told me I would be charged $20 a night for a roll away bed. I explained that the directory in the room said it was complimentary and I was told that was wrong. I called the second night and got the same response. I even poked my head in the "gastropub" (a cafteria with a wooden shelf that serves as a bar) and asked 2 other employees about the roll away beds. No help at all. ALL the vending machines in the building are "sold out". You can go down to the lobby and spend $3 for a small soda and deal with the less than thrilled to be there front desk staff. No breakfast buffet in the morning for $10 per person like stated in directory. Smells like mold and mildew. We were put on the same floor as a drunk wedding party when the rest of the entire hotel was empty. After I checked out, I was charged $54 due to having my chihuahua with me when that was never told to me. I was charged for my dog to stay this miserable stay with us, yet one of my children had to sleep on the hotel floor, because of "misprinted information" -- as Patricia "GM" told me in her snarky and sarcastic email after I reached out about the poor customer service from "manager" Taylor. She hung up on me for being concerned about why my card was being charged MORE money after a horrendous stay. 0/10 Def do not recommend. Have nothing bad to say about this place especially for how it was run by its employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. The room was clean, HUGE, and comfortably inviting with a "home" feel. The only thing why it was given 5 stars was it was overhyped in being the "new" in hotels. There was nothing different than other 5 star hotels. Also, I wasn't a fan of navigating thru separate buildings to get to main lobby and being close to a major road with high traffic. read more

Big modern rooms, comfortable bed. We stayed in the second building. The hotel is 2 years old. They should have better maintenance the hotel is starting to smell. I arrived on Monday night around 11 PM and was greeted by Howard at the front desk he checked us in right away and took really good care of us. We had a small honest housekeeping issue with the room which was not an issue at all to me but I addressed it to the front desk and Howard quickly took care of it. Vanessa was closing out her shift but still took the time to get me trolley tickets she left late and then I saw early the next morning with a smile. The room was great I was really pleased I felt it was worth the money. The breakfast is like eating at a five-star hotel I'm serious especially when you have Mary Carol and Barb to take good care of you they were extremely attentive to my wife and my three children in the selection of food is not only healthy but well cooked and good quality. It's not that far away you can walk to restaurants safely and it's new compared to the other hotels I've stayed out in the area. You won't be disappointed I promise. read more

The layout of the king suite is nice for kids because there are French doors between the king room and the sofa bed, and the Bathroom is in between the rooms. It is within a 1.5 mile walk to downtown, or you can Uber for about $8 read more

We booked here for a quick family trip to St. Augustine. Hotel is pretty new. Everything was clean. Rooms were very spacious. Every employee we encountered was so friendly and helpful. We were offered a discount on breakfast and took it. We were not disappointed. Many breakfast items to choose from and the ladies working were the highlight of our stay. So friendly. Quick drive to all the sites, or walk if you are up to it. It was pretty rainy while we were there, so we chose to drive and park closer to attractions.
