I had a craving for fish and chips and my significant other recommended this place because his coworkers raved about it! The parking station is a bit small but there's a plaza right next door that does have better/more parking! There is also a mural painted on the side of the shop which is cute! The shop itself is a bit small and run down but the staff was very nice and it seemed like they had many regulars! There are a few booths, which aren't the biggest so big parties will be a bit cramped but my s/o and I brought the fish n chips home and they were still very crispy after 20-30 minutes. We waited only about 10-15 minutes for our order to be brought out to us! I got the: - 1 fish 4 prawns combo: The fish was waaaay bigger then I thought! The prawns were delicious and the fish batter was crunchy and crispy but the inside was soft and flakey and which I liked! The tartar sauce with a bit of vinegar paired perfectly with the fish! The chips were a bit flavorless though and I wish there was a little bit of salt on it. They also included an extra fish onto my s/o order which was nice!! This definitely satisfied my fish and chips craving for a while! I definitely recommend trying this place if you got a craving for fried seafood! read more

The cashier was friendly and they don't force asking tip down your throat either. Inside seems a bit run down but it's in old town EG and has a bit of history so it matches the vibes. I came here for dinner there was no line in front of me on a Friday night . My boyfriend and I each got 1 pc of fish and chips. We decided to eat there because it tastes better fresh than to go . The staff was friendly and the food took about ten minutes or so to get. For ten dollars a person is a steal. The fish was cooked to perfection crispy in the outside and moist on the inside . The fries and fish can use some seasoning though . I wished they used another cut fries or seasoned it better. The place has been opened for a while and needs to be remodeled. It's probably almost as old as me . Since there isn't a tugboat in Elk Grove this is my favorite place to get fish and chips . Other places would charge double and wouldn't be as good . I haven't tried other things yet. I plan on trying the calamari in the future . But I won't complain much about it needing to be remodeled because I don't want them to up the prices. For sauces they only offer tartar and ketchup. I believe if you want vinegar you have to buy the bottle ? I saw it being sold on the counter. Finding a great fish and chips spot such as Ocean Fish and Chips located in Elk Grove is a blessing as I am very selective in general!!! I have been a regular since I relocated here. It's a small place however there are plenty of tables and kept tidy. The staff are quick to clear up tables for other guests. Although there are posted signs for guests to help clear their own baskets and tables, not all guests are courteous and disciplined enough to do so (booo!!!). There's ample parking though it can get full especially during peak times. This spot has very good fried fish! And their fish and chips combo meals are reasonably priced. I usually order the 3 piece fish combo ($16.50) or 1 piece with 4 prawns ($14). Served with 2 containers of tartar sauce and additional is only $0.50 each. Vinegar is offered though you'd have to request for it. The staff are always courteous and very efficient. You are handed a table top number when you order and they will bring your order to your table when it's ready, for both dine-in or to go orders. Ocean is my go to spot for fish and chips so will definitely be back again very soon. read more

I'm not sure if the restaurant is still under the same ownership, but unfortunately, the quality of the food seems to have gone downhill. The fries were inedible--they tasted as though they had been sitting out and were refried in old oil. We've always ordered the Fish, Prawns, Calamari, Hush Puppies, Coleslaw, and Fries. They include Tartar sauce and it's usually enough for dipping. Their seafood always tastes fantastic with a crunch in every bite and the oil is not old nor runny. Phone orders are usually ready within 10-15 minutes outside of Lent (Christian Fasting on Fridays before Easter) else good luck, you'll need to place your order over an hour in advance during Lent. Not many people eat at the restaurant, it's more of a To Go place so don't expect to eat there holding a beer. Parking can be a hassle. As for ambience... it's pretty much a kitchen with seats available for waiting. I do not recommend ordering the fries here. Go somewhere else. read more

I've been looking for a place that service good fresh fish the way i remember when i was younger. I was able to find this place while driving by and decided to stop. I think i came at opening cause the place was empty so i decided i can sit in and eat. The parking lot was intimidating at first because it is right off the Main Street but i was able to get in park and be fine. The restaurant itself seems to have the main door and a back door to enter if you chose with booth seating options. The menu is extensive with the fried goodies. I didn't know what to get so i played it safe with chicken and fish. After waiting for about 10 mins my fresh food came out to my table! Just know they will bring the sauces with your tray of food so don't worry when you don't see any in the tables. The food was fried to perfection and it didn't leave puddles of oil soaking my plate. So i was a happy camper. The one thing i was suggest is getting something to update the booths, only cause in a hot summer day in shorts things can get really sticky when it comes to getting up lol. Wow. This small shop off of Elk Grove Blvd toward the old Elk Grove area was such a cute small gem! My husband and I were going to the old town plaza and decided when he headed home we would stop here and we are so happy we did! The service is super nice, they are Korean owners, and very tentative with the guests. The owner walked around and asked everyone if they were okay and if the food was good. The fish and chips were so good and LARGE. But my favorite had to be the chicken strip, because not only was it fried, it was still super juicy! But the fish and chips were still so good, man.
