    Chicken Tender Basket

I used to love Cajun seafood but ever since I develped allergies, I have to give up on them. We came here with some friends for dinner. It happened to be a night with the Lunar New Year event but luckily it wasn't packed when we got there. It got packed later. The ambience was cool and open. They have a bar area. The menu has many selections to choose from. Mainly seafood but they do offer some non-seafood dishes as well. We got The Reel's Catch, Oyster Basket with sweet potato fries, Garlic Noodles with chicken and Chicken Tender Basket. The garlic noodle was kinda dry, needed more sauce. Tasted very garlicky for sure. Chicken tender basket was alright, nothing special or rave about. At least the tenders were not dry. Excellent customer service here. Even though it was a busy night, servers were still attentive. They were friendly as well. Restroom was clean. Plenty of parking but spaces are tight. Parking is shared with other businesses in the plaza so it can be limited at times. If there are no parking in the same lot, can always park in the Target side :)

If you're in the mood for a messy seafood boil night, Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar is such a fun spot! We went on a Tuesday night and it was super chill, no wait, seated right away, and the staff was so welcoming and attentive. I've been here before and the service has always been consistently great. Also, they have weekday deals, so definitely check those out before you go! We ordered the steamed oysters (6), 2 lbs head-on shrimp with the Hook & Reel special blend (mild), 2 lbs live crawfish with special fusion sauce (medium), and garlic noodles. The oysters were SO bomb. So flavorful and fresh, I honestly wish we had gone on Monday for the $1 oyster deal lol. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. I love that every bag comes with potatoes and corn to soak up all the sauce. The special fusion sauce was my favorite, sweet and salty, the best of both worlds. The crawfish was a little rubbery this time, which was slightly disappointing since I was excited it was live. I'd still give it another shot though. The garlic noodles were good, just wished they had a bit more sauce like the last time I had them. At one point a bug landed in our noodles and they immediately offered to remake it, no hesitation, just great customer service. Overall, great food, awesome service, and I'd definitely come back!

We've been wanting to try this new spot out since it opened. We used our son's 4th birthday to come out and get dinner since they have a kids menu. You're greeting at the front and taken to your seat. The inside is spacious and you have the option of sitting by the bar area or the open seating area. We decided to sit by the bar because of the huge TV. There are about six other smaller TVs around the restaurant as well. They have a nice variety of menu items from their boils, gumbo, steak, burger, and appetizers such as calamari and hush puppies. I ordered the classic gumbo, our son ordered the kids pasta with fries, and hubby ordered a boil with spicy sauce.

Amazing! Amazing! First time here & had an overall wonderful experience! Customer service was great from start to finish! Our server was very patient (forgot his name ) with us and super helpful. We werent sure on what sauce to choose and he described the sauces very well and then gave us a sample to try!! Other than the wonderful service, the food was scrumptious! The seafood were very fresh & cooked so well! None were over/under cooked at all! Not even the potatoes! Automatically a new favorite seafood boil spot!! The vibe was also super chill & I LOVE the country music playlist!! I'm hoping this place continues to thrive & does not turn into one of those seafood boil spots that loses its appeal.

OK, I saw their promo online and went there in person. There was actually a birthday party there and I want to say they said that it was gonna take longer than usual, which was perfect for me because I was like I'm already here. I also ordered a pound of shrimp and a pound of clams. My bill came up to about 80 bucks. The crab was super good. I love the inside and there was meat on it and on top of that I had to go leftover as well taste wise. I would definitely go for the salt and pepper crab, classic and a seafood boil was good my friend ordered some hush puppies, which weren't my favorites but she definitely liked them would I recommended this place of course the one thing I am going to say is that the server wasn't really there because they were super busy. Otherwise food was good. A solid good deal on a Tuesday They have other promos going on on other days of the week as well but I did not look at it

Love this place. Nice and spacious compared to Chasons. Both are great same food, same great customer service. Good drinks. Always a good time at hook and reel. My favorite are the short ribs with white rice.

A couple of things made the overall experience hit-or-miss for me. First, the positives--the flavors and seasoning here are honestly really good. The sauces were bold, garlicky, and packed with Cajun flavor, and the oysters were a highlight for me. Super fresh tasting and easily my favorite part of the meal. Where things fell short was the crawfish. We were told it was live crawfish, but it tasted more like it had been frozen for a while -- the texture was pretty rubbery, and it just didn't feel fresh. It was disappointing because the seasoning itself was great, but the quality of the seafood didn't match. The biggest issue though, was finding a fly in our garlic noodles. After that, we were honestly done eating, which put a damper on the whole experience. Overall, I can see the potential here because the flavors are strong and the menu has some winners, but consistency and freshness need improvement. I'd come back for oysters, but I'm hoping for a better experience next time.

I always love the vibes here at hook & reel! The staff definitely bring the energy and great service. I love their snow crab and their sauces here, and I love that they offer a variety of different seafood, and a whole lot of entree's and appetizers. Their calamari is always a must get for me. It's crispy outside and super tender on the inside. Today, I tried their headless shrimp, and I appreciate them deveining it, it felt so much cleaner eating it.

Came here for brunch and it was great! Emmitt was an awesome host and he gave us a wonderful experience. Ordered almost $200 worth of food and had a ton of leftovers. Also ordered a Bloody Mary and that was tasty and strong. One of the better seafood boil places! Great prices, clean, corn and potatoes are included in 1 lb. orders, and great customer service. Highly recommend!

Food was delicious. Got their house specialty and it was on point! Highly recommend at a medium for full flavor with no major spice. Our waiter Angel made sure that our drinks were full the entire time. Great experience from start to end.

Hook & Reel has officially been added to our seafood boil rotations in the Sacramento area. We've had the chance to check out Hook N Reel two times with our second time being this past weekend. The first time around we went and it wasn't too busy so our food came out faster than expected but this past weekend it was busy and it took a little longer. So definitely plan ahead for those weekend crowds if coming in with a huge party. The service is also pretty good for the most part and everyone is pretty helpful with everything. The restaurant has plenty of seating and also a full bar available. They have plenty of TVs available throughout the restaurant with a huge screen next to the bar. Might check them out during NFL season to catch some games on the BIG screen. One thing I could suggest is lowering the music volume in the restaurant. It gets pretty loud as is with the crowds and with the music you just can't seem to be able to talk to the people in your group. They have a variety of different flavors available to choose from but we have gone with the blended flavor both times and it's been really good. One thing I wish I knew ,was to ask for the noodles on the side for our boil. That was our mistake for not asking if they came inside or out, so that's good to know for future reference. They also offer a variety of different appetizers and dishes so if you're not into the boil scene theirs other options. Overall it's a pretty good spot to check out. Their prices are pretty reasonable and the food is quite tasty.

It was our first time here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The restaurant spacious with booth and table seatings. It has a lively atmosphere with many tvs and bar area. The menu consists of many food options such as po boy sandwiches, steak, wings etc. Additionally happy hour is 3-6pm. Upon entering we were greeted right away by a friendly staff and seated promptly. It was not busy when we arrived around 4pm. The staff was attentive and informed us of their Monday specials ($1 dollar oysters). Our waitress came by the table a few times to ensure we were satisfied with our food. However, we were not informed that out waitress shift ended and left until another waitress came by to let us know. As for food, we ordered 24 oysters, half raw and half steamed with garlic sauce, calamari and garlic noodles. We ordered two order of the "reel catch" with 2 snow crab clusters and 2 choices of seafood in which we got shrimp and clams with our order and shrimp and mussles. Corn and potatoes were included with the seafood boil. The seasoned garlic sauce with our order was delicious. Mild option was not spicy. House special sauce was slightly spicy but not enough heat. Overall, the seafood boil was savory with a blend of spices, buttery flavors. Will definitely come back to try other seafood and food options.

The business owner provided reasoning advising "the bartenders are not trained to make specialty drinks" however, the bartenders provided different answers: one mentioned they could do it, the other said there was no orange to make the drink, despite there being an orange immediately in my view, along with a knife. In lieu of providing an apology for the subpar service and drinks, the business owner decided to advise that their bartenders are only trained on their specialty cocktails, and other cocktails, however mainstream, are not memorized. However, I advised how to make the drink and they said they could do it, then the response changed, so this reasoning is unsound and mostly irrelevant. I'll never return here. Their cocktails are weak, the bartenders have horrible customer service, and the owners support said weak cocktails and poor customer service - this is a recipe for a subpar evening. Hard pass.

When we walked in I knew I was in the perfect spot-this bar has those low lights that all the bars in the 70s and 80s had-giving off a both romantic and mysterious vibe to it-I was in love with the place from that moment on. The music that day was awesome-I heard they have live music at times but at the time of my visit they did not-they were instead playing 90s and 2000s R&B and Hip Hop-it was wonderful-one banger after another-so yeah I was vibing. Our waitress couldn't have been cooler-she was as friendly as can be-suggesting drinks that were both on and off the menu-her and I were sharing tequila stories based on our shared affinity for the Fortaleza tequila they had in stock -which is super rare and it's how I judge every bar-whether or not they have Fortaleza tequila on hand and The Butterscotch Den had multiple bottles on hand. We ended up going with a few drinks that day. -Strawberry Negroni-($13.00)-This one blew my socks off-my favorite drink in the works is a Negroni but this bar makes a Strawberry version of it and let me tell ya-it's dynamite-10/10 rating -Old Fashioned-($12.00)-This is my go-to order at most bars because it's pretty reliable and most bars can make a decent one and I'd say they make a very solid one here-8.2/10 rating -Cucumber Gimlet with Tequila-($11.00)-This drink was made with lime-sweet vermouth and tequila-it was very refreshing and went down way too easy-rating 8.4/10 -Mezcal mystery drink-($12.00)-This was a drink the bartender made that after we declared our love for the smokiness of mezcal-I wouldn't be able to ask for it again unless I got the same waitress but if your a mezcal lover like I am-this drink was top of the line-smokiness intensity off the charts-9.1/10 rating So a little about the place that I picked up during my visit-I guess they serve food-I didn't know that but after my 2nd drink I looked back and saw this entire dining area with table side grills-so I guess the customers cook their own meats and such-pretty cool concept-my visit was strictly a drinking visit so I didn't partake but it looked pretty cool. I guess they are opened most days from 4p-12am and until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. They do not have a dedicated parking lot for this bar but they are located near 34th and Broadway-so unlimited street parking is available for those who drive here. In closing-I really really enjoyed my visit to The Butterscotch Den and I was pretty sure I had found my new favorite bar in Sacramento with a bar in the Ice Blocks but I am pretty sure that has changed and The Butterscotch Den is my new favorite bar in the greater Sacramento area-if you find yourself looking for a new spot to enjoy some adult beverages or maybe looking for a date night spot-don't hesitate to make your way over to The Butterscotch Den-the place is a true hidden gem. PS-They have a Disco Ball in their lounge area and a vintage non-working cigarette machine-the coolest I tell ya.

I remember from the video they said this was considered a "bartenders bar",the kind of spot that that bartenders and workers in the industry would hangout after their shifts-I liked the sound of that. Walking up to where I thought the bar was located,it was kinda funny because it was just an innocent looking blue door with the words "Cocktail" along the side-doesn't look like much at all,I'd imagine I've walked by this place many times without thinking of ever going in-that was changing this time. When I walked in I 100% knew I was stumbling upon something special-it was a tiny place but it was overflowing with energy, not many booths in this bar and it may be the smallest bar I've ever been to but it felt special.Looking at the clientele I felt like I was with my people,it was so cool in there. This is the kind of place I would take my wife and any of my friends before a special night out and be it a dinner or a concert or a production at Safe Performing Arts Center and feel like it would set the right vibe for the night. Looking over the menu, they had some very interesting looking drinks, the wife went with a French 75($12.00)and I went with a Pecan Brown Sugar Old Fashioned($16.00)The bartenders are very friendly and super personable and really took their time and took pride in their drinks-I had never had an Old Fashioned quite like that one,but it went down super smooth-I loved i-I look forward to going there again asap. A coupe of things about this bar-they do only have 1 unisex bathroom,it was very clean. Also this place is so old school that they are a "Cash-Only " bar. They do have an atm in the bar in case you forget your cash. They have a big fish tank behind the bar that really put the room together nicely-I liked it a lot. In closing,if you ever find yourself in the Ice Blocks part of midtown and want to experience an awesome bar that feels very unique-head on down to Frank and have a drink or two-you won't regret it-I think I may have found my new favorite bar in all of Sacramento. PS-I loved talking to the bartender telling me how they don't carry Don Julio but have many varieties of Fortaleza instead-a true IYKYK moment if there ever was one-this place rocks.

Awesome ambiance, lousy bartender. Interaction ruined the experience…read more We go in and are seated. 4 of us. We ask about the menu--we get met with rude sarcasm WITHOUT the humor. The menu out front (which drew us in) was NOT posted anywhere inside. So naturally, we ask about the pricing and what was applicable. That's when bartender's eyes roll and she dishes out snarky responses that insult our intelligence. Yes, lady--we can read, and I hope your boss can too, because you were an embarrassment to the establishment! We didn't ask for the teenage insecurity and projection...we only wanted a drink. Well we got the drink and the flavor was meh. We didn't even tip. Big tab...0 dollar tip. Most likely won't be back. If you're a bartender...be courteous and stay off your fxkin laptop/phone. I had been to Bawk before but little did I know about the hidden space behind it. You do need to make reservations, which I did not do. Instead I got on a list until there was a space, close to midnight and way past my bedtime, to discover this hidden gem. Once your reservation time comes up, you are escorted to a booth or bar area and given a menu. We had welcome drinks upon arrival and could choose from a cocktail list. Drinks average about $20 each, so be prepared to spend some cash. You should definitely experience this at least once! Great spot for date night or a fun girls night out.

The space is small and intimate with serious speakeasy vibes that remind me of some of the cocktail bars in San Francisco. The drink presentations are gorgeous, and you can tell a lot of thought goes into both the flavor and how everything looks when it arrives at the table. They have a great selection of gin, rum, champagne, and whiskey, and I often lean on the staff for drink suggestions because they're really good at recommending something you might not normally order. A few times now they've pointed me toward a drink that ended up being a hidden gem. I've been here a few times and it's always a great time whether you're catching up with friends or doing a date night. The food is also surprisingly good and pairs well with the cocktails. It is definitely on the pricier side, but that's part of the experience. Also, because the space is small and intimate, reservations fill up quickly and they do require a deposit, which goes toward your final bill. Helpful tip: make a reservation ahead of time and don't be afraid to ask the staff for drink recommendations -- they're excellent at guiding you to something special. Final verdict: absolutely worth it.

THE SETUP It would be imprecise to call ForePlay just an arade because it also brings in some of the fun carnie elements you'd catch at a State Fair. One of the more eclectic elements is the axe-throwing range! Tons o' fun. FULL BAR The most beneficial aspect of this stop was the full bar, which - after a couple of hours of heat in the sun while wandering the Midtown Market stalls - was a wonderful treat. Coool beer! There is random parking along the streets and some rare off-street parking lots, but limited parking during events. THE LOWDOWN This is a great stop from to duck into from the heat, or for groups making the rounds. I enjoyed watching a bridal shower when I was here!

With each game costing one to two dollars I felt a little ripped off I couldn't even finish my game of three balls. The pool table me and my friend played on was quite frankly disgusting. Tons of stains on the table and felt peeling. The balls all chipped and scratched. Also there was some issue with something being stuck when the game was first setup with my friend putting it together but I wasn't paying attention. He had to flag down a worker to help resolve the issue. I get it, things are pricey these days, so a newer business has to find a deal when they can, but at least find a way to improve an already overly used item. I don't expect brand new pool tables, but at least tables that look like the business cares Not to mention the ground and walls were just dirty and gross. Seemed like nobody is really cleaning the place. All the tables tops seemed sticky (if you know you know). The velvet lounge just kinda seemed like a random thrown together area, but maybe on a slow Monday it didn't feel right with lack of people. The workers were great and gave great service, just sadly all the half run down amenities that is supposed to make this place great, makes it pretty lackluster. I guess come if you want the axe throwing?

I've been a few times since my initial review and the place is never adequately staffed. If you're ever greeted to seat, it takes longer than necessary for a dead location to take your order, fill it, bring it to you and even check in on you. Forget refills on drinks or wanting a second drink. The food is terrible. I was served what was supposed to be chilaquiles but it was actually bag tortilla chips with what tasted like cheap store bought canned enchilada sauce sprinkled on it with what tasted like powdered scrambled eggs (not even given the option or asked how I want my eggs). What's worse is I think they attempted to pass off Parmesan cheese as cojita cheese. The flavor wasn't there, it was far too salty. I had not one but two bones in the small empanadas I ordered. The flavor otherwise was good, and the picked red onion was a nice compliment. I hope they actually figure this place out and overhaul both service and menu because for such a cute location, this isn't it.

Think dive bar meets aloha: it's crowded and dark, nicely furnished and decorated with island style, and serves amazing tropical drinks and food. We went recently for the Aftershock 2026 promotion night. First 100 drinks were on them, and they had a raffle for a pair of tickets! There was a long line when we pulled up, but luckily, my friend was able to snag a reservation right at the start of the promo. (Pro tip: always MAKE RESERVATIONS!) I know it's just a bar, but they are so busy most nights, you will be grateful you got in right away and get to sit down at a table. They also have a patio for more seating. The bar itself is small and is right at the front, so it's crowded right as you walk in. The host stand is to the right. Service was very welcoming and polite albeit slow, just for the fact that it was a very busy night. The mai tai and pina colada were delicious, fruity, and strong. We ordered Spam fried rice (my favorite), chicken potstickers (OK), and the coconut shrimp (good and not too sweet). We shared that between 3 people and it was a good snack while we sipped on our tropical drinks, but we were still hungry when we left. It's a good portion for 1-2 people for a meal, and prices were average.
