Date night this week took us to Captain Crab , and this was our first time here! Let me just say... it did NOT disappoint! To start, the service was great. Right when you walk in, everyone was friendly and welcoming. It was a busy Saturday evening, but we were seated pretty quickly. Our waitress was also so friendly, and our food came out FAST and piping hot! In our past experiences at other crab boil restaurants, it can take forever just to get a table, let alone get your food. So we really appreciated how quickly everything came out here! Now, THE FOOD! My hubby and I both got the Dungeness crab with the mild Cajun & garlic butter seasoning. It came with potatoes and corn, and we also added a side of rice and the Cajun fries. The seasoning was SO good! It had plenty of flavor without being overly salty. The crab was delicious and cooked perfectly. And those Cajun fries?! They were super crispy and seasoned to perfection! The only thing I would have changed was that we weren't given any crab crackers or tools to help us get into the crab. We actually thought they didn't have any at first. We later asked and were provided with some, but it would have been nice if they were offered or brought out with our gloves and bibs since we ordered crab. Other than that, I really enjoyed our experience! I especially loved that the restaurant has a more relaxed atmosphere compared to some other crab boil spots. The seats were comfortable, the music wasn't extremely loud, and it still had a fun vibe while being quiet enough for us to actually have a conversation. Overall, I'm giving Captain Crab a 10/10! It was just OK. The service was lacking. One of my kids spilled a full cup of water and I immediatly went to start cleaning up, but needed a towel or something to help mop up and no one tried to help. Staff just kept walking by and glancing over but did not seem to care. I asked several staff if I can get a towel. Finally the bus boy told me to just move to a different table. They left our first table and floor wet almost the entire time we were there. It was odd, as it wasn't busy at the time and they had plenty of staff. The food was also just ok. Very generous with the shrimp and sausage but the crab portion was pretty sparse and the crabs were salty and not fresh tasting. They were supposed to be 1lb ea but there was only 1 crab cluster with thin legs and the shrimp and sausage were probably a bit over. The corn on the cob was frozen corn not fresh. We also ordered a side of bread and it was half of a roll for $4 and a side of the spicy sauce was $7 (for a small ramekin maybe 3 oz?) The kids still enjoyed the experience but I don't think we will be back here. read more

While my family and I were still eating, restaurant staff began cleaning the dining area with strong chemical cleaners that smelled like bleach. The fumes were overwhelming, and we had our infant with us. No customer should have to finish a meal while being exposed to harsh cleaning chemicals. To make matters worse, after we left, the restaurant charged my debit card without my authorization. When I called to question the charge, I was told they have a practice of charging customers if they believe a tip was "forgotten." We had already tipped our server in cash. At no point did I authorize any additional charge to my card. Using strong chemicals around customers who are actively dining and charging a customer's debit card without authorization are both completely unacceptable. I have disputed the charge and will be reporting this incident to the appropriate authorities. The manager Maritza made numerous excuses instead of taking accountability, while our server was courteous and respectful. I cannot recommend a business that operates this way. I encourage others to carefully review their receipts and bank statements after dining here. read more

In a nutshell; went for a holiday discount promo, was 100% worth it. Went relatively early knowing there was going to be a ridiculous line and glad to have stuck that decision as there it was. Got seated relatively quickly. Server was attentive and explained our promo and options very well. Food didn't take too long despite how busy it was. The food was great. The sauce and all its tidbits was good. Overall a very good experience if youre looking to treat yourself to a seafood boil. read more

I visited with a party of 12 during a work trip and I truly wish I could give this place 10 stars!!!!!! The service!!! Amazing!!! Our waiter consistently checked on us, and our glasses were never empty. The music selection was a mix of RNB, definitely a vibe. I ordered the 2 way shrimp, which comes with half a pound of shrimp w/head off and fried shrimp. Usually shrimp without the head lacks flavor but THAT WAS NOT THE CASE! When we got home and opened everything up, we noticed some of the shrimp were starting to turn black, which was concerning. On top of that, a lot of the shrimp was overcooked, and the shells were sticking to the meat, making it pretty frustrating to eat. The oysters were okay, but didn't taste as fresh as I was expecting, especially for a seafood spot. We placed a to-go order at Captain Crab and tried the Dungeness crab in Cajun sauce (extra hot), half pound shrimp in Cajun sauce, onion rings, and crispy Cajun fries. The seafood was fresh and flavorful, but we were disappointed that the shrimp and crab were packed together in the same plastic bag, even though they were meant for two different people. It made the meal messy and less enjoyable. I wish the person taking the order had double checked instead of assuming everything should go in one bag. On top of that, the Cajun sauce was very heavy-handed with butter and oil, which overpowered the seasoning. The sides were solid--both the onion rings and Cajun fries were crispy and satisfying. Still, the packaging and the excess oil left us a little underwhelmed, especially given the price point. That said, the ambience is fun and lively based on our past dine-in experience. Captain Crab has potential, but more attention to detail with takeout preparation and balance in the seasoning would make a big difference. read more

If you need a seafood boil, THIS IS THE SPOT! I have been coming here for the last year now and truly no other seafood boil place compares. There is always a great punch of flavor and spices. Nevertheless, we ordered the Captain Special Boil w/ Captain special flavor & Hot level. It's the perfect amount for 2 people. We also ordered a side of rice and Cajun fries with additional lemon pepper seasoning. BOMB! The food came out pretty quick which was great because I was starving. The whole setup came out at the same time and the temperature to all the food was perfect. We destroyed the seafood boil and only left a couple shrimp in the bag... I would say the shrimp was cooked perfect meanwhile the lobster tail was a bit overcooked. Aside from that, our server was very kind and gave us all the goods to enjoy the meal. If you're looking for a place where you'll be completely ignored for hours, this restaurant is perfect. We were seated and then apparently became invisible. After waiting nearly an hour without a single server coming to our table, I had to walk to the front and ask if someone could please take our order. Meanwhile, tables that arrived well after us were already enjoying drinks and meals while we sat there wondering if anyone even knew we existed. Once we finally ordered, we waited another hour for our food. We wanted to order drinks during that time, but there was never a server around to ask. It felt like we were chasing the staff just to get basic service. The grand finale came after we left, when several of us started feeling sick and developed stomach pain. I can't prove what caused it, but after everything else that happened, it certainly didn't leave a good impression. Between the terrible service, ridiculous wait times, and feeling unwell afterward, this was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. We were able to get seated right away though as the place is fairly big and can accommodate a decent amount of tables. The lunch special is such a good deal. We got 2 bags of shrimp (3/4lb each), fried crawfish, rice, and the fried catfish basket and our total only came out to about $50. The only thing that would make this place even better is if they had garlic noodles! I think the only area of improvement would be the service! While our waitress was friendly, she wasn't super attentive and our food did take a little while to come out. Now that there's so many seafood boil spots it's hard to find the best one. I've had the majority ones in the Sacramento area and this is my favorite. They have a nice size parking lot and there is also some street parking. There are tables and booths. They also have a separate area for big parties inside. I went in on the weekday and there was a small wait but I've heard about the wait time on the weekends. The server was really nice and attentive. I ordered M2.Shrimp(No Head)(1/2 LB). I added half pound sausage. I got some sides that were extra sauce, fries, and steamed rice. I love that the extra sauce does not come in the bag. They serve it on the side. The rice was yummy especially when adding the sauce. I got the "Hot" and it had a real nice kick to it. My flavor of choice was the captain special that has everything in it. The sausages had a real good smoked taste. The fries were cruntchy as well. Overall all my food was great. The prices are more reasonable than other seafood boil places in Sacramento.
